Katherine M. Brodeur

SOUTH YARMOUTH Katherine M. (Wakeley) Brodeur, 57, of South Yarmouth, formerly of Weymouth and Greenfield, died Tuesday (6-4-2001).

She was the wife of Arthur C. Brodeur III.

A graveside service will be held Friday in Woodside Cemetery, Summer St., Yarmouth Port at a time to be announced.

Calling hours at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mildred S. Brunelle

ERVING Mildred S. (Reipold) Brunelle, 80, of 222 Old State Road died Monday (6-3-2002) at Quabbin Valley Health Care Rehabilitation Center in Athol.

Born in Montague, Feb. 8, 1922, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Ickton) Reipold. She attended Turners Falls High School. She had lived in Montague for most of her life before moving to Erving in 1984.

She was married to Lionel E. Brunelle on Nov. 30, 1940.

Brunelle was a member of the Greenfield Women of the Moose, Chapter 316.

She enjoyed volunteering her time at the many clambakes held at the Millers Falls Rod and Gun Club.

Besides her husband of 61 years, she leaves four sons, Lionel E. Jr. and his wife, Barbara, Richard D. and wife, Karen, all of Turners Falls, Gerald F. and Deborah of Greenfield and Ronald J. and Nina of West Palm Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be in St. Annes cemetery at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donors choice.

Walker Funeral Home, Greenfield, is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond A. Canning

SUNDERLAND Raymond Allison Canning, 61, of 691 Amherst Road died Monday (6-3-2002) at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton, as a result of an automobile accident on Route 116 in Sunderland.

Born in Greenfield, May 1, 1941, he was the son of Raymond and Edith (Watts) Canning. He was educated in Deerfield schools, attended Deerfield High School and graduated from Smith Vocational High School in Northampton.

In earlier years, he worked at the Charles Warner Farm and Myers & Mendelson Tobacco Co. He went to work as a custodian at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst until his retirement.

Survivors include a brother, Eugene of Sunderland, an aunt, uncle and several cousins.

There are no services. Cremation will take place.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, 1 Bromfield St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02108.

John E. Conway

COLRAIN - John E. Conway, 72, of 9 River St. passed away early Wednesday morning (5-31-06) at home with his family by his side.

Born on May 21, 1934 in Montague, he was the son of John and Evelyn (Normandy) Conway. John was raised in Greenfield with his older sister, Gloria, and his younger brother, Peter. As a child, he attended Holy Trinity School and during that time he was an altar boy for Holy Trinity Church. In 1953, he graduated from Greenfield High School.

A year after graduation, he began working at the former Greenfield Dairy as a route salesman. For 21 years, he delivered milk to various customers in the Greenfield area. During this time he met his future wife, Dorothy 'Dottie' A. Platner of Colrain. In 1966, they married and after living in Greenfield for two years, they moved to Colrain where they raised their five children.

After leaving the dairy, John stayed at home with his children during the day and worked at Jack's Liquor Store at night. In 1978, John became a custodian at Mohawk Trail Regional High School, Buckland, where he worked for 17 years until his retirement in 1995.

Whether at home or at work, John was always an active person. In his early years, he was involved in the Colrain Lion's Club as the secretary and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed being busy with his various hobbies, such as gardening, traveling, walking his dog 'Lowe,' watching the Red Sox and reading the newspaper. Also, he would make usual morning coffee trips to Chandler's with his dog. But the most enjoyment that he received from life was spending time with his five children and granddaughter. He loved laughing with them and he never passed on a good joke. His laughter and smile were infectious and he will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, the former Dorothy 'Dottie' A. Platner; five children, Karen Conway of Fairbault, MN; John Conway of Chuckey, TN, Maureen Conway of Colrain, twins, Marianne Conway of Rutland, MA, and Melissa Conway of Troy, NH; a brother, Peter Conway of Cohasset; a sister, Gloria Fotopulos of Greenfield; a granddaughter, Ciara Byrans, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in North River cemetery with the Rev. Bob Szafran, pastor of the Colrain Community Church, officiating.

Calling hours at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield, will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway St., Greenfield, MA 01301.

Richard T. Creek Sr.

WARWICK, R.I. Richard T. Creek Sr., 59, of View Avenue died Monday (6-3-2002) in Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence.

Born in Wilmington, Vt., July 10, 1942, he was the son of Don and Mary (Tomasini) Creek. He had lived in Warwick for many years.

Creek was an employee of the BSM Pump Corp., formerly Brown and Sharpe, for many years.

He was a communicant of St. Catherines Church, Apponaug.

His wife, the former Sheila Walsh, predeceased him.

Besides his parents of Greenfield, Mass.; he leaves a son, Richard T. Jr. of Bisbee, Ariz.; three brothers, Raymond of Fayetteville, N.C., Edward of Chicopee, Mass., and Don Jr. of Greenfield, and a sister, Sandra Seaman of Greenfield.

Services will be Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from The Butterfield Chapel, 500 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Catherines Church. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans cemetery in Exeter.

Calling hours at the funeral home are today from 4 to 8 p.m.

John R. Tandy

ORANGE John R. Tandy, 54, of 150 Fountain St., died Tuesday (7-16-2002) in Athol Memorial Hospital.

Born in Gardner, Feb. 13, 1948, a son of Huber W. and Margaret (Doubleday) Tandy, he lived in Orange all of his life.

He was a musician and had played the trumpet for nearly 45 years.

A graduate of Ralph C. Mahar Regional School in 1966, he was a member of its band, chorus, and participated in the variety show and was in All State Chorus several times.

He attended Radio Electronics Technical School in Boston two years before enlisting in the Army during the Vietnam Era. He served in Korea on the Armed Forces Korean Network.

After his discharge, he worked on cable television construction throughout New England before being employed by Time Warner Cable Co. He was lead technician at the cable company where he worked for 24 years.

The president of the Orange Community Band, he was also a member of Petersham Brass Band, Narragansett Community Band and the former Minute Tapioca Band. He played frequently with Martys Reminisce Orchestra and the former Stardusters of Gardner, was the music coordinator for the Mason-Hale Vespers and a freelance trumpeter in the area.

A member and former officer of American Legion Post 172, he was an Orange Revitalization Partnerships Citizen of Month and volunteered his services to the Orange Business Association and the Athol Merchants Association during the holiday decorating in both towns for many years.

He attended the Orthodox Congregational Church of Petersham, he was a member of its choir.

An outdoorsmen, he enjoyed hunting, softball, Red Sox baseball and playing the card game pitch.

He leaves his wife of 22 years, the former Susan E. Robinson; two daughters, Kyrra L. and Robyn M. both of Orange; two brothers, Dan M. of Warwick and Richard D. of Orange, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Orthodox Congregational Church, 21 N. Main St., Petersham. The Rev. Clyde Powell, interim minister, the Rev. Gordon Tate, minister emeritus and the Rev. Natalie Maynard, former minister, will officiate. Burial will be in South cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wittys Funeral Home, 158 S. Main St.

In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Orange Community Band, John R. Tandy Scholarship Fund, in care of Sandrah Fager, 35 Stone Valley Road, Orange, MA 01364.

Gloria M. Hill

WINDSOR, Conn. Gloria M. Hill, 70, of 456 West Wolcott Avenue, died Tuesday (7-9-2002) in Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center, Northampton.

She was born in Montague, Oct. 10, 1931, the daughter of John H. and Lylda M. (Leonard) Hill.

She was a 1949 graduate of Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls and a 1953 graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield. She received a baccalaureate degree in behavioral sciences in 1966 and a masters degree in education in 1970, both from the University of Hartford.

From 1953 until 1958 she was a staff nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Conn., where she later became an instructor in its School of Nursing program. She later was a nursing instructor at the St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester.

Prior to retirement in 1997, she was a counselor at Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield, Conn., for several years. Prior to that position she was assistant professor of nursing at the Tunxis Community College in Farmington, Conn.

Survivors include two brothers, Frank E. of Turners Falls, and James M. of Buckland, and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She also leaves her best friend of many years, Carolina Cressotti of West Hartford, Conn.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls. The Rev. Tom Rabbitt, deacon of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Shelburne Falls, will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Western New England, 48 Sanderson St., Greenfield MA 01301.

Roman Norman Marziarz

SOUTHINGTON, Conn. - Roman Norman Marziarz, 69, of 104 Little Fawn Road died Monday (7-8-2002) at home.

He was the husband of Vera (Chekoulias) Marziarz.

Born on June 3, 1933 in Gill, Mass. the son of John Oscar and Sophia Piskor.

Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was employed at Pratt & Whitney in Southington for over 40 years. Marziarz was an Eagle Scout and a former Cub Scout Master for many years, a member of the Bristol Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1010 and St. Kaziemerz Society of Turners Falls, Mass. He was a parishioner of St. Josephs Church in Bristol.

Besides his wife and parents he leaves a daughter, Sandra Votto; two sons Paul S. and his wife Lauren and William P. and his wife Angela all of Southington; two grand-daughters Nicole Kate and Lindsay Ann.

The funeral will be Saturday at 9 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Josephs Church in Bristol at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Josephs cemetery in Bristol.

Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
