ABBOTT, LESTER M. -- Lester M. Abbott, Jr., 84, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, May 19, 2009.
Born in Manchester, NH on August 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Lester and Florence (Brackett) Abbott. He was raised and educated in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and was a graduate of Alton High School, Class of 1942. He went on to serve during World War II in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard aboard allied merchant ships as a signalman.
For over twenty years, Mr. Abbott was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Danvers Dep. of Public Works until the time of his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Armed Guard Nat'l. Organization and Project Liberty Ship.
He will be dearly missed by his dear friends on Perry Terrace.
He is survived by three daughters, Terry Hawkes of Peabody, Sharon Abbott of Newport, VT, and Pamela Beaulieu and her husband Steven of New Ipswich, NH, and six grandchildren.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2009 at 10AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 6-8PM in the funeral home. Burial will be held privately in the Massachusetts Nat.'l Cemetery, Bourne. PRENTISS, FLORENCE -- Florence M. Prentiss, 94, died early Thursday morning, May 14, 2009 following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late James T. Prentiss, with whom she shared over sixty years of marriage.
Born in Boston on Aug. 1, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Addie (Tewksbury) Barney. She was raised and educated in Boston and Cambridge and had been a Danvers resident for the last seventy-four years.
Mrs. Prentiss was employed over the years at CBS Hytron, Sylvania, Vulcan Electric, and Chapion Lamp before spending sixteen years at Hotwatt prior to her retirement.
A faithful communicant of Saint Richard Parish, she and her late husband were members of the former Mr. & Mrs. Club. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, and was a wonderful cook.
She is survived by her children, Joanne Kobierski and her husband John of Danvers, Barbara Cyr and her husband Arnold of Wakefield, NH, Judith Gooding and her husband Donald of Florida, and James T. Prentiss II and his companion Heather Steadman of Gloucester, 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Brenda Blais and the grandmother of the late Maureen Kobierski.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 9AM in Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Haverhill. BUTTERS, RITA - OF DANVERS- Rita Josephine (Flint) Butters, 89, passed away May 13, 2009 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. She was the wife of the late Frank Butters with whom she shared fifty-six years of marriage.
Born in Danvers on February 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Helen Flint. She was raised and educated in Danvers and a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1938. Mrs. Butters was employed at several local retail stores including The Suburban Quality Shop in Danvers Square, Johnny Appleseeds and Almy's in Beverly and Salem. She was a communicant of the St. Mary of the Annunciation Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters since the age of eighteen.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Richard Pariseau of Maine and Kathleen and Frederick Gaudreault of Peabody, five grandchildren, Eric and Craig Pariseau, Kelly Gallant, Brian Gaudreault and Lyn Ellen Manning and eight great grandchildren.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Sat. May 16, 2009 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers. Burial to follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. TROHON, SHARON-OF DANVERS- Sharon Trohon, 62, loving daughter of the late Robert G. & Norma P. (Williams) Trohon, and mother of Nicholas and Miranda Trohon died May 11, 2009 after a brave battle with cancer.
Sharon was born July 9, 1946 in Danvers. She attended Danvers public schools, and graduated from Salem State College class of '68. She spent a year teaching in Maryland but returned to her home in Danvers where she spent the rest of her life. Sharon worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for over 30 years, reaching the title of Administrative Officer of Mechanical Engineering. She was a hard worker and well respected by her co-workers and professors.
The ultimate joys of her life were her beloved children Nicholas and Miranda as well as her two grandchildren, Brendan and Zachary. Sharon's loving and caring nature endeared her to all and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her son Nicholas and his wife LeeAnne Trohon of Danvers and daughter Miranda Ashley Trohon of Boston and Danvers, three sisters, Rebecca J. (Trohon) Amnott of Georgetown, Paula G. (Trohon) Ensign and her husband Randy of Kodiak, AK and Doreen M. (Trohon) Wilson, and her fiancé Kevin Thoits of Beverly and a brother Robert G. Trohon, Jr. of Nicaragua, two grandsons Brendan and Zachary Trohon and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

EVELETH, JAMES C. -- James C. Eveleth, 62, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House.
Born in Beverly on Jan. 3, 1947, he was the son of Eleanor (Williams) Eveleth of Wenham and the late Frank Eveleth. He was raised and educated in Wenham and was a graduate of Hamilton-Wenham High School, Class of 1966.
Mr. Eveleth was employed for many years as a mental health attendant at the Bedford VA Hospital and at the former Danvers State Hospital.
A longtime Wenham resident, he was a member of Christ Church in Hamilton. He loved animals and antiques.
In addition to his mother, he leaves three children, James C. Eveleth Jr. of Wenham, Dawn Phillips and her husband David of Los Angeles, CA, and Jessica Eveleth of Chicago, IL, and a grandson, Wyatt Colby Eveleth. He was predeceased by his brother and sister, Gary and Heidi Eveleth.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 10:00a.m. in North Beverly Cemetery, Route 97, Beverly. Relatives and friends are invited. As requested, there are no visiting hours. SADOWAY, JEAN -- Jean Stella Sadoway, 67, died Thursday evening, April 30, 2009 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness.
Born in Danvers on Sept. 19, 1941, she was the daughter of the late James and Stella (Jarzynka) Sadoway. Jean was a longtime resident of Danvers, until recently moving to Harborlight House in Beverly where she enjoyed the company of her housemates and staff.
Jean attended the Hogan Regional Day School and worked for several years at Heritage Industries in Peabody. She was an active participant in the KALOS adult day care program from 1992 until 2000, and the more recently in the Day by Day program in Gloucester.
A communicant of the former Saint Joseph Church in Peabody and Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers, Jean enjoyed people and had a smile for everyone she met. She enjoyed taking rides with her beloved brother, going out to eat, and watching TV.
She is survived by a brother, James Joseph "Joe" Sadoway of Danvers; two sisters-in-law, Joan and Eleanor Sadoway, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late MaryAnn, Edward, Stanley, and John Sadoway.
Her Funeral Service will be Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 11AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. HARRISON, MARION E. "BETTY" - OF DANVERS- Marion E. "Betty" (Ellsworth) Harrison, 80, passed away on April 27, 2009 in a local nursing facility. She was the wife of the late Philip Harrison.
Born in Danvers on April 1, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Mary (Fitzgibbon) Ellsworth. Betty was raised and educated in Danvers and a graduate of the Holten High School. She spent most of her married
life in Beverly where she raised her family. Betty was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the Beverly Hospital for over twenty years.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, David P. Harrison of New Hampshire, Paul and Susan Harrison of Danvers and Kenneth and Gloria Harrison of Beverly, five grandchildren, Kelly, Jared and Jeremy Harrison and Ryan and Philip Harrison and two brothers, John Ellsworth of Topsfield and Peter Ellsworth of Danvers. She was predeceased by three siblings, Richard Ellsworth, Joanne Portelance and Florence Small.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in North Beverly Cemetery. LARRABEE, RUSSELL -- Russell Charles Larrabee, 92, devoted husband and father, died Saturday after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Barbara S. (Germaine) Larrabee, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. He was married
to Barbara (Moulton) Larrabee for sixteen years prior to her death in 1957.
He was born in So. Portland, Maine, in 1917, son of the late Fuller and Elsie (Warren) Larrabee. He grew up in Beverly, where he was one of the group of Ryal Side School students who moved directly from fourth to sixth grade. He began his working life as a youth by delivering newspapers. He graduated from Beverly High School in 1934. He also attended the Boston Trade School and Boston University. He was manager of the Dunlop Tire and Rubber Company store on Rantoul Street in Beverly at the age of 22, before joining the United States Navy Sea Bees in 1943.
He was a member of the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion as a spare parts technician for the invasion of Okinawa in 1945. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal when he was honorably discharged in 1946.An avid sports fan, he was also an accomplished musician (piano and ukulele) and poet.
He regularly led sing-alongs during family celebrations, gatherings and cookouts. He authored more than 100 poems most for family members, neighbors and friends. He also received tremendous satisfaction watching the growth of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a founding member of the Danvers Touchdown Club (1960) and a long-time member of Maple Street Congregational Church. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed performing house and yard work into his 92nd year.He worked for the Nestle Company for 34 years, until his retirement in 1981, at which time he was serving as New England Regional Sales Manager in the coffee division. During his leisure years, he and his wife enjoyed being called snowbirds when wintering in Florida.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Robert and his wife, Karen, of Beverly; Gary and his companion, Anne Baker, of Wenham; Mark and his wife, Betty, of New London. N.H.; two daughters, Tracy Berenson and her husband, Dana, of Topsfield, and Leslie Larrabee of Wenham; one sister, Barbara Hunt, of Danvers, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by two brothers, Warren Larrabee and Fuller Larrabee, and three sisters, Esther Larrabee, Virginia Spaulding and Ruth Lewis.
Visiting hours are Wednesday 4-8 p.m., at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm Street, Danvers Square. Services will be held Thursday, Apr. 30, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Maple Street Congregational Church, 90 Maple Street, Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Sylvan Street, Danvers. HITCHCOCK, WILLIAM -- William F. "Bill" Hitchcock of West Newbury, and formerly of Danvers, died April 21, 2009 at Radius Healthcare in Danvers. He was the husband of Dorothy E. (Tataronis) Hitchcock, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in 1925 in Danvers he grew up on John Street on the "island", with his 7 siblings. A graduate of Holten High School, he was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps, he then married
and raised 6 children.
Following in his father's footsteps, he worked in design and machine shop manufacturing at Smith and Wesson and Anderson Nichols Engineering in Boston. He became senior project engineer at the world headquarters of Gillette Co. in South Boston, designing machinery for the Safety Razor division worldwide. He traveled extensively to South America, Europe and Canada to install equipment and train Gillette engineers, and retired as vice president of Corporate Engineering.
After retirement he continued to use his many talents to help people with various projects. He enjoyed several hobbies including paleontology, photography, golf, piano tuning, building projects, and traveling with his family. He was a member of the North Shore Rock and Mineral Club, the Calumet Photographical Society and many conservation organizations. He will be remembered for his creative mind, sense of humor and generosity throughout his life.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by his six children: Peter Hitchcock and his wife Bambi of Danvers, Trisha Rose and her husband Michael of Maine, Joan Hitchcock of Marblehead, Terry Hitchcock of Billings, Montana, Frank Hitchcock of Newburyport, and Tom Hitchcock of Illinois, his sister Claire Mackel of Alabama, three grandchildren: Brent Hitchcock, Diane Hitchcock and Benjamin Frey, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Friday, April 24, 2009 from 5-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. As requested, all other services are private.
DOHERTY, BRO. PLUNKET, C.F.X. -- Brother Plunket Doherty, CFX, 80, died Friday morning, April 17, 2009 at Beverly Hospital.
Born John Doherty in Boston on June 14, 1928, he was the son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth Doherty. Raised and educated in Boston, he was a graduate of Mission High School in Roxbury.
Entering the Congregation of Saint Francis Xavier in February of 1947 and received the holy habit that August, taking the religious name Plunket, Brother faithfully served in a long career as an educator at Mount St. Joseph in Baltimore, St. John's High School in Shrewsbury, Keith Academy in Lowell, Ryken High School in Leonardtown, MD, and Malden Catholic High School. He had resided in Xaverian House, Danvers since 2007.
Brother Plunket was known as a dedicated yet unassuming religious brother and teacher who was beloved by his students, colleagues, and fellow Xaverian Brothers.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 11AM in the Chapel of Saint John's Preparatory School (Admin Bldg.), 72 Spring St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Brothers' Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesdy morning prior to the Mass from 9:30-10:45AM.
