MASCETTI, RICHARD -- Richard R. Mascetti, 90, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Adele (Stanina) Mascetti, with whom he shared fifty-two years of marriage.
Born in Boston on Dec. 29, 1918, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Mascetti. Mr. Mascetti was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. He had been a Danvers resident for over fifty years.
Mr. Mascetti was employed by General Electric for many years at the Riverworks Plant in Lynn.
His passion was golfing and for many years Mr. Mascetti was a member of the Wenham Country Club. He also enjoyed his bowling league with his buddies at Sunnyside. A member of American Legion Post 194 in Hamilton, he was a member of the ICC in Beverly as well as the Vittori-Rocci Post, where he enjoyed monthly dances with his wife.
He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Edward Marticio of Danvers and Joan and John Salvo of Methuen, 3 sisters, Ginger McHale, Lee Hood, and Rose Rediker, a brother, Gus Bontono, 8 grandchildren, Michael, Nancy, David, Sharon, Eddie, Linda, Mark, and Dean, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Sandy and John Bontono.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 11AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-8PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 74 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.

SHEPHERD, SYLVIA -- Sylvia (Wilkins) Shepherd, 79, wife of the late Otis Shepherd entered into eternal rest on January 27, 2009, at Sunrise at Gardner Park, Peabody.
Born on January 14, 1930 at 24 Cherry Street in Danvers and raised and educated there, she was the daughter of the late Grace and William Burdett Wilkins. Sylvia lived most of her life in Danvers before retiring to Peabody.
She managed several North Shore businesses including Putnam Pantry, D.V. Die, and Transform Plastics. In addition she created wedding cakes for family members. A multi talented artist she had a crafts and wood working operation in her home, and after retiring Syl, as she was known, created S.O.S. (Sylvia and Otis Shepherd) a small delivery operation, to travel, which both she and Otis enjoyed. She was a devoted wife, mother, stepmother and grandmother.
They loved to travel often and far S.O.S was as much a vacation as a business, taking them to Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont and other points of interest, where Sylvia would scout out local crafts people and new ideas to experiment with in her wood shop. She was a master craftsperson.
Otis and Sylvia were also both avid square dancers, which is where they met, and were presidents of a local dance association. She also kept in touch with a wide circle of friends since childhood often meeting with them monthly for lunch or dinner.
In her last years Sylvia W. Shepherd was surrounded by a loving and devoted team of caregivers at Sunrise at Gardner Park in Peabody and Hospice of the North Shore who made her final journey safe and comfortable. Syl loved and she was loved by all that knew her and she was a devoted wife, mother, stepmother and grandmother.
She had two children from her first marriage to the late Harry (Fred) Hultgren, a daughter, Sandra Lee Hultgren, who passed away in April 2006 and a son Stephen Frederick of Salem. She is also survived by a grandson Jesse Hultgren of Salem, a stepson Donny Shepherd and his wife Kathy and their children and grandchildren of Rochester, NH, one younger sister, JoAnne Alukonis and her husband Bob of Newburyport, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her older sisters Pauline Proctor and Corinne Staid and her younger brother Phillip Wilkins.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody. Visiting hours will be Saturday morning from 9-10:45 in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sylvia's memory may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.

O'BRIEN, ELIZABETH -OF DANVERS- and Salem, Elizabeth A. "Bette" (Rhoades) O'Brien, 87, passed away on Jan. 29, 2009 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Salem on May 27, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Bessie (Arrington) Rhoades. Mrs. O'Brien was employed at Long's Jewelry Store in Danvers Square. She was also employed as a secretary with the Massachusetts Welfare Office in Salem for over thirty years. After she retired she continued to volunteer in the same office for over five years. She had resided in both Danvers and Salem and was a communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas O'Brien of Windham Maine and Garry O'Brien and his wife Christine of Salem, a daughter, Donna Reynolds of Maine, a sister Eileen DeLorenzo of Wells, Maine, a grandson TD O'Brien, many nieces and nephews and her beloved O'Brien Clan. She was predeceased by her former husband Thomas O'Brien.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Tues., Feb. 3, 2009 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Vst. hrs are 4PM-8PM on Mon. at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Bette's name to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA, 01923.

WARD, ROBERT S. -- Robert Stanley Ward, 62, died Monday, January 26, 2009 following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Milli (Spinney) Ward, his high school sweetheart, with whom he shared forty-two wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Lynn on Oct. 18, 1946, he was the son of the late Stanley and Louise (Flanders) Ward. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a member of the Lynn English High School Class of 1962. He was a Danvers resident for over twenty years.
Bob was employed for many years as a master carpenter. At one time he owned his own cabinetry business, and later worked for others building many beautiful homes across the North Shore.
Bob was a devoted member of Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served as a youth leader with his wife for many years. He was a member of the Amity-Mosaic Lodge, AF&AM, and the Aleppo Shrine. He enjoyed racing and building cars and was a member of the North Shore Old Car Club. Active as a baseball coach and in scouting, he enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
In addition to his wife, Bob leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jason Skane of Danvers; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Cheryl Ward of Peabody, Dennis and Rhonda Ward of Rowley, and Darrin and Paula Ward of Winthrop, a sister, Joyce Pote of Danvers, and seven grandchildren, Phylicia, Jonathan, Zachary, and Jordan Ward, Stephanie Dawe, and Tyler and Juliana Skane.
His Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 30, 2009 at 11:30AM in the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to Spectrum Adult Day Care, 600 Cummings Ctr., Beverly, MA 01915.

DRAPALA, JAYNE -- Jayne (Diamond) Drapala, 51, of Danvers, entered into eternal peace on January 21, in the year of our Lord 2009, surrounded by family and friends at the Kaplan Family Hospice House of Hospice of the North Shore following a strong and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 26 years, Charles, and her beloved son, Roderick Jon.
Born in Malden, she was the daughter of Ruth Diamond of Peabody and the late William Diamond. She was a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1975, and worked for thirty-one years as a legal secretary in Boston.
Jayne was a devoted Sunday School teacher at Holy Trinity United Methodist Church where her wonderful spirit will be greatly missed by her loving and dedicated extended family. Her heart touched everyone she met, with a zest for life!
She is also survived by her sister, Susan Dorfman of Bradford, her nieces Shayne Dorfman of Revere and Cara Dorfman of Brooklyn, NY; her nephew Eric Drapala of Attleboro; her most cherished friend Carla DiFlumeri of Revere; her godmother Barbara Bent of Danvers; and her sidekicks Chris Mahoney of Peabody and Lisa Smith of Danvers. She will be missed by her special girls Maggymay and Sophie. Jayne would say, "Let go and Let GOD." A special thanks to the living angels at the Kaplan House where loving care surrounds everyone. Jayne's family and friends could not have made this journey without the Rev. Susan J. Morrison and Rev. Sharon Dunbar-Link with their love and support.
Her Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11AM in Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers. Following the service, lunch will be served and the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall. RUEST, MARIE -- NORTH CONWAY, NH, formerly of Danvers- G. Marie (Weldon) Ruest, 94, died January 19, 2009 at a nursing home in North Conway. She was the wife of the late Jean "John" Ruest.
Born in Danvers on November 3, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Ouimette) Weldon. Mrs. Ruest was raised and educated in Danvers and a communicant of St. Richard Church. She resided in Danvers until 1997, and then moved to North Conway. Mrs. Ruest was a loving mother and grandmother, an avid reader and also enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Lynn Ruest of Yarmouthport, Mass., a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Arthur Cassidy of Glen, NH, a brother Raymond Weldon of CA, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Arthur, James and Harold Weldon, Dorothy Roberts, Eileen Kuleza and Laura Petrucci.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 in St. Richard Church, Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Vst. hrs are Thurs. 4PM-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers.

LABRIE, ARMAND -- Armand J. LaBrie, 90, died Sunday evening, January 18, 2009 in his home following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Rita (Gamache) LaBrie, with whom he shared sixty-seven years of marriage.
Born in Peabody on Sept. 12, 1918, he was the son of the late Hector and Lydia (Brawit) LaBrie. He was raised and educated in Salem and had been a Danversport resident for seventy years.
For fifty years, Mr. LaBrie was employed in the leather industry with the Flynn Tannery in Salem.
He enjoyed fishing and spending time on the water, and for many years was a member of the Danvers River Committee. He especially enjoyed his role as Santa for many years during Santa's annual visit to Danversport and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Marie Cote and her husband Ronald of Georgetown, Terry LaBrie-Herlihy and her companion Daniel Caskey of Danvers, and Cynthia LaBrie and her companion Richard Parker of Danvers; a sister, Dorothy Lane of Peabody; five grandchildren: Jade and Jesse Cote, SFC Shawn Herlihy, Jenelle Palladino, and Chantel LaBrie; five great-grandchildren: Steven, Derek, and Shawn Herlihy, and Payton and Brett Palladino; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Juiellette Dennis, Violet Bergeron, and Robert, Rene, and Romeo LaBrie.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 11AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 3-7PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. LaBrie's name may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.

McGrath, Marguerite A. "Margo" (Christian)89, died early Saturday morning, Jan. 10, 2009 at Salem Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born in Waltham on April 1, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Alma (LeMay) Christian. She was a graduate of Concord High School, Class of 1936, Westbrook Junior College, Class of 1939 and the New England School of Art in Boston. She was a draftsman at General Electric Aircraft Engine Group for over forty years, retiring in 1985. She moved to Brooksby Village Peabody on 2003.
Upon retirement, she dedicated herself to working as a volunteer at Salem Hospital, Danvers Council on Aging and the Outreach Cancer Group in Beverly. She was a skilled craftsperson and had been an active member of the Essex County Needlecraft Guild as well as an avid porcelain doll maker, receiving many awards at the Topsfield Fair.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles McGrath and Martha Melvin of Dunnellon, FL, two granddaughters, Shannon McGrath and her husband David Hesketh of Methuen and Michelle Johnson and her husband Tim of Norwood, a great grandson Samuel Hesketh and five nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Rosalie Brazeil and Jeannette Winin.
Visiting hours are Thursday, Jan. 15 4PM-6PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. A private funeral service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Peabody Council on Aging 29 Central St., Peabody MA 01960.

CULLEN, ELINOR F. -- Elinor F. Cullen, 93, died peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2009 in the Hunt Nursing & Retirement Home, where she was cared for lovingly for more than three years. She was the wife of the late George L. Cullen.
Born in Danvers, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Etta (Creeden) Callahan. Educated in Danvers public schools, she was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1933, and worked for Sylvania following her graduation.
After raising her family, she worked for the Danvers Police Department as a clerk for nearly fifteen years, a job she truly loved. After leaving the police department, she worked at Hunt Nursing & Retirement Home as a receptionist until she retired in her late 70's.
Mrs. Cullen was active in Our Lady's Sodality and the Court Henry A. Sullivan of the Catholic Daughters of America, and was an active communicant of Saint Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Danvers. She was a member of St. Benedict's Guild at Bishop Fenwick High School.
She is survived by her children, George L. Cullen of Salem, Deborah A. Fauci of Peabody, Joseph Cullen and his wife Maureen of Newburyport, and Mark A. Cullen of Hampton, NH; six granddaughters, Mary Elizabeth, Karyn, Amanda, Erin, Tara, and Rebecca; her great-grandchildren, Nick, Alex, David, Michael, Taryn, and Madeline, and a very close family friend of many years, Joanne Kelley.
She was predeceased by two children, John D. Cullen and Paula Cullen Todd, and her siblings, Gilbert Callahan, Doris Fossa, and Laurette Ryan.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 9AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Saint Mary Cemetery, Sylvan St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hunt Nursing & Retirement Home, 90 Lindall St., Danvers, MA 01923.
