Elizabeth M. (Mercier) Madary passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday morning, July 27, 2008 after a long illness.
Betty was born on Sept. 15, 1914, the daughter of the late Olivina A. (Cameron) Mercier and Joseph A. Mercier in Danvers and lived in Danvers all of her life. She graduated from Holten High School as a member of the Class of 1932.
During World War II, Betty supported the war effort by working at Pratt and Whitney in Hartford, Connecticut manufacturing airplane engines. As a career, Betty was employed as a supervisor in the stitching room of the Ideal Baby Shoe Company until her retirement.
She was a long standing communicant and parishioner of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers.
Betty frequently traveled and enjoyed many trips to exotic places. Some of them included Japan, South America, Europe, Hong Kong, and the Caribbean. Betty loved to dance and taught many nieces and nephews. While dancing for pleasure, she won trophies and awards.
Yes, Betty had many loves, dressing in style and high fashion whether traveling or in everyday life, dancing or spreading good cheer. Most of all, Betty loved and was devoted to her family. Her greatest joy was being a second mother to her many godchildren, nieces, and nephews. Betty was one in a million!
There are many things in our world that come and go and can be replaced. Betty is the enduring truth. Love, devotion, and spreading happiness are the enduring truths of her life and legacy to all that she touched. She will be dearly missed.
Betty is survived by her sister, Mary L. (Mercier) O'Leary and her husband Donald of Danvers, and many godchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers: Henry, William, Alcide, and Emile Mercier.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 11AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. CODDINGTON, LILLIAN -- Lillian E. (Weeden) Coddington, 85, a Middleton resident for over sixty years, died early Saturday morning, July 26, 2008, following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late James A. Coddington, Jr.
Born in Lynn on Oct. 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Catherine (McDonald) Weeden. She was raised and educated in Lynn.
Mrs. Coddington was a homemaker and especially enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a longtime communicant of St. Agnes Church, a member of the Middleton Golden Agers, the Middleton Senior Citizens, Women's Friendly Services, and the Women's Fellowship at Middleton Congregational Church.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Mary Jo and Forrest Sceggell of Rochester, NH and Christine and Warren Ostler of Saugus; 7 grandchildren: Elizabeth Wood, Jennifer Duprat and her husband Scott, Amy Sceggell, Sarah Stowe and her husband Will, Michael Ostler, Peter Sceggell, and Nicholas Sceggell and his wife Lauren; 9 great-grandchildren: Jessica Millward_, Mariana, Abby, and Lauren Sceggell, Olivia, Allison, and Emily Duprat, and Owen and Lillian Stowe. She was the sister of Benjamin, William, Thomas, Richard, and June Weeden, Betty Morin, Helen Zarella, Ruth Anderson, Helen Gerard, Alice Shewbrooks, Phyllis Anderson, and Priscilla Sowinski. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Ed Hayes.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 10AM in Saint Agnes Church, 22 Boston St., Middleton. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. INDRESANO, ERNEST "Ernie" MIDDLETON- Ernest "Ernie" Indresano died Tuesday, June 24, 2008. He was the husband of the late Natalia (Memmolo) Indresano.
Born in Avellino, Italy, he was the son of the late Emilio and Filomena Indresano. He was a resident of Wellesley for fifty years, lived in Boca Raton, FL for twenty years, and recently made his home in Middleton.
Together with is wife, they owned and operated Ernie's Coffee Shops in Wellesley and Boston. He was a strong, courageous and giving man that was respected by all who knew him. He often volunteered his time and business to help people in need.
She is survived by three sons: Emilio and his fiancée, Yvonne Fitzgerald, of Canton; Ernie and his wife Renee of Newburyport and Michael of Middleton; a granddaughter, Isabel Natalie and extended family in Italy.

DEVARENNE, VIRGINIA- of Danvers, Virginia F. Ginny (Hayden) Devarenne, 72, died peacefully in Sarasota, Florida on Tuesday, June 24, 2008. She was the wife of Robert G. Devarenne with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in Danvers, December 4, 1935, she was the daughter of the late James Ronald and Bertille (MacLellan) Hayden. She was raised and educated in Danvers and graduated from Holten High School in 1953.
Mrs. Devarenne was employed at the former Ideal Baby Shoe in Danvers. While raising her children, she was employed as a waitress at the former Kings Grant Inn in Danvers and at Angelicas in Middleton.
She was a lifelong resident of Danvers and enjoyed spending the winter months in Sarasota, Florida with her husband, friends and family.
She is survived by two sons, Paul of Concord, NH and Robert C. and his wife, Sarah of Danvers; four daughters, Paula Guptill and her husband, Walter of Lynn, Elaine Oliver and her husband, Brian of Danvers, Janet Jones and her husband Stephen of Hamilton and Mary Beth Verry and her husband, Mark of Danvers.
She was the loving grandmother of Jennifer, Julie, Brendan and Lindsey Guptill, Joseph and Thomas Devarenne, Matthew, Terence and Timothy Oliver, Noelle and Robert C. Devarenne, Kristin, Kayla, Stephanie and Connor Jones and Daniel and Matthew Verry. Mrs. Devarenne is also survived by a brother, John Hayden of Chelsea and two sisters, Mary Fabrizio of Peabody and Nancy Reardon of Danvers along with many loving nieces and nephews.

D'AGOSTINO, MARY - of Topsfield- Mary (Costanza) D'Agostino, 79, died June 24, 2008 at a local nursing facility. She was the wife of the late John D'Agostino.
Born in Revere on October 7, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Madeline (Lepore) Costanza. She was raised and educated in Revere and graduated from Revere High School in 1946. Mrs. D'Agostino had been a resident of Topsfield for over 50 years. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Topsfield. She was very active with the Council on Aging in Topsfield and helped distribute meals to the elderly. She also enjoyed her membership with the Red Hat Society, bowling leagues in Beverly, and loved line dancing.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law; John and Karen D'Agostino and Paul D'Agostino all of Topsfield and a daughter and son-in-law; Janet and Timothy Boivin of Illinois, four grandchildren; Jeffrey, Geneva, Jack and Ben and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings; Sam and Charlie Ranieri and Amelia Ganusko and Josephine Hammer.

DELUCA, ANNA -- Anna M. (Parrotti) DeLuca, 92, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at a local nursing facility following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Domenic DeLuca Sr.
Born in Salem on Apr. 11, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Santa (Teranos) DeLuca. She was raised and educated in Salem and been a Danvers resident for over seventy years.
For many years, Mrs. DeLuca was employed at the kitchens at the former Danvers State Hospital. A communicant of St. Richard Church, she enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by five children and their spouses: Mary and Peter Pierce of Tampa, FL, Ralph and Patricia DeLuca of Danvers, Paul and Nancy DeLuca of Salem, Samuel and Peggy DeLuca of Peabody, and Domenic and Kathleen DeLuca of Danvers; 14 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

BROTHER DISMAS, CFX -- Brother Dismas, C.F.X. (Robert E. McAuliffe), a member of the Congregation of the Xaverian Brothers for sixty-six years, died after a long illness on June 2 at age eighty-five at Xaverian House, the Xaverian Brothers retirement facility on the property of St. Johns Prep in Danvers.
The son of the late John McAuliffe and Mary Teresa Walsh, Robert McAuliffe was born in Brooklyn, NY, on June 5, 1922. After attending St. Michaels Diocesan High School which was conducted by the Brothers and St. Johns University, both in Brooklyn, he entered the congregation in 1942 and received the religious name Dismas.
His classroom teaching apostolate would take him to St. Xavier High School in Louisville, KY; Mt. St. Joseph High School in Baltimore and Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Wheaton, MD; and St. Joseph Juniorate in Peabody and Keith Academy in Lowell, MA. Along the way he would earn his MA degree in English from Boston College and both a Bachelor of and Licentiate in Sacred Science (Theology) at the Jesus Magister University in Rome. Brother Dismas also served the Congregation in various administrative posts: Assistant Novice and Assistant Scholastic Master at Sacred Heart Novitiate and Xaverian College respectively, Vocation Director, and Personnel and Retirement Director. From 1982 until 2002 he worked in Sarasota, FL, as the Volunteer Director for the Senior Friendship Center and as a tireless volunteer himself, serving the needs of the elderly in that area.
Brother Dismas joined the Brothers retirement community in Louisville, KY, in 2002; when that facility was renovated in 2004, he came north to Xaverian House in Danvers where he remained until his death.
An intensely spiritual and thoughtful man, he exuded charm and fraternal charity and was a favorite with his students as well as his many nieces and nephews and grand- nieces and grandnephews. Brother Dismas was preceded in death by his brothers William, John, and Francis.
Visiting hours will be on Monday, June 9, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the St. Johns Preparatory School Chapel (Administration Building). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Prep Chapel on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the Xaverian Brothers Cemetery. Arrangements will be under the direction of C.R. Lyons and Sons Funeral Directors, Danvers. SCHEVIS, KELLEY -- Kelley J. Schevis, 85, of Danvers, MA died at home June 1, 2008 surrounded by family. He was born in Danvers, on May 10, 1923, the son of the late John and Sophia (Jasewick) Schevis. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Morphew) Schevis for 55 years. Kelley was a graduate of Holten High School and lived in Danvers all his life. He played baseball in the Danvers twilight league and football in the Danvers town semi-pro league.
During WWII Kelley served as a Marine Corporal in the Pacific Theatre. He was wounded in Iwo Jima and awarded the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and a member of the Danvers VFW Post 2359. Kelley was employed with the Beverly Post Office for 30 years. His hobbies included gardening, puzzles, helping his children and friends, and he was a lifelong Red Sox fan.
He is survived by his wife Patricia (Morphew), son & daughter-in-law, Kelley Jr. and Julie Schevis of Danvers, MA and daughter and son-in-law, Elaine C. and Allen E. LeBoeuf of Windham, NH, four grandchildren, Cheryl LeBoeuf of Providence, RI, Cynthia LeBoeuf of Plaistow, NH, Ryan Schevis of Danvers, MA, and Danielle Schevis of Haverhill, MA, three step grandsons, Michael, Daniel and Timothy Stanton of Danvers, MA, one great grandchild, Myles OKeefe, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Stephen, John, Daniel and Isabel Schevis, Michael Shairs, and Ester Karson.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart Street, Danvers at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. SYMMES, DAVID T. -- David T. Symmes, 63, died Saturday afternoon, May 31, 2008, at Beverly Hospital after suffering a heart attack in Danvers Square. He was the loving husband of Sally (Tomlinson) Symmes, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage.
Born in Salem on May 13, 1945, he was the son of Thayne and Karin (Hurd) Symmes of Essex. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Danvers High School, Class of 1963. He went on to further his education at Northeastern University and graduated in 1968.
For forty years, David had been employed by Hewlitt-Packard (formerly Digital Equipment and Compaq) where he was first hired in 1968.
A longtime Danvers resident, David was active in the Danvers Historical Society for many years. A member of Calvary Episcopal Church, he was recently elected Senior Warden. He was especially fond of his constant companions, Molly and Seamus, his Kerry Blue Terriers.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by three children and their spouses: Melissa and Greg West of Boxford, Rebecca and Kenneth Lee of Danvers, and Matthew and Nina Symmes of No. Providence, RI; six grandchildren: Michael and Margaret Devlin of Boxford, Caroline and Charlotte Lee of Danvers, and David and Nicholas Symmes of No. Providence, RI; two sisters: Susan Emerson of Webster, NH and Linda Monagle of Essex; two brothers: Bruce Symmes of Danvers and Keith Symmes of Essex; and many nieces and nephews.

KELLY, ROLAND D. -- Roland D. Kelly, 83, a successful North Shore auto dealer, died Monday, September 1, 2008 at Beverly Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Elinor (Kiley) Kelly, with whom he shared sixty years of marriage.
Born in Lynn on Aug. 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Norman and Jessie (McPhail) Kelly. He was raised and educated in Peabody, and was a graduate of Peabody Veterans' Memorial High School, Class of 1943.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Following his aviation training, Lt. Kelly flew B-17 heavy bombers to and from the Aleutian Islands.
For twenty-three years, Roland was employed by the former C.E. Whitten dealership in Salem. In 1965, He founded his dealership, Roland D. Kelly, Inc., known today as the Kelly Automotive Group. During his years in the auto industry, he served as president of the Nissan Advisory Board, and was an innovator in the importation of Japanese automobiles to the United States.
A member of the Maple Street Congregational Church and the Amity-Mosaic Lodge, AF&AM, he was a Danvers resident for over sixty years. He was a member of Danvers VFW, C.W. Davis Post 2389, the Danvers American Legion, Post 180, where he served as chaplain, Squadron 7, and the Confederate Air Force.
A man of many hobbies, he learned several instruments and played in several music groups over the years. In his early days, he enjoyed racing cars at the West Peabody Speedway with his brother-in-law, Ken Kiley; and his later years, spent many pleasurable hours on his motorcycle. He was also a member of the North Shore Old Car Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Cathleen Kavanagh and her husband Francis of Danvers, Daniel Kelly and his wife Tina of Danvers, Brian Kelly of Boston, and Neil Kelly and his companion Wanda Brown of Plaistow, NH; eight grandchildren: Gary, Lisa, Brian, and Brendan Kelly, Kristen Heney, and April, Krista, and Drew Kavanagh; 4 great grandchildren: Brian Kelly Jr., and Kellan, Casey, and Connor Kelly; a sister, Dorothy Hussey; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Colleen Kelly.
His funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 10AM in the Maple Street Congregation Church, Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers.
