CROSBIE, ELIZABETH ANNof Manchester-by-the-Sea, formerly of Hamilton, Elizabeth Ann Betsy (Howard) Crosbie, R.N., 67, died on February 24, 2008.
Born in Boston on Feb. 9, 1941, she was the daughter of the late John Wade and Sara Beatrice (Lotz) Howard. She was raised in Wilmington, DE. Then attended LaSalle College in Newton, MA, where she received her nursing degree. Prior to residing in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, Mrs. Crosbie was a longtime resident of Hamilton, MA; where she raised her family. She had been employed as a registered nurse at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA, Hunt Hosp. in Danvers, MA, Beverly Hosp., Addison Gilbert Hosp. in Gloucester, MA, and Mass General Hosp. in Boston. She was involved in her community as a member of the League of Women Voters and also the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School Committee.
She is survived by a daughter, Jill Crosbie of South Berwick, ME, a son, Timothy H. Crosbie of Danvers, two grandchildren, Jenna and Jacob Crosbie, a brother John Wade Howard of PA, a sister and brother-in-law, Polli and Frank Gerstle of New Mexico, and her former husband Arthur Butch Crosbie of Hamilton. As well as many extended family throughout the country.
A Memorial gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 from Noon-4:00PM in the Hamilton-Wenham Community House, 284 Bay Rd., Hamilton, MA. BENNETT, DOROTHY L. -- Mrs. Dorothy Louise (Watson) Bennett, 83, wife of the late Carl W. Bennett, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, after an illness of several months.
Mrs. Bennett was born May 31, 1925, in Newburyport, daughter of the late Guy E. and Hazel (Plummer) Watson.
Her early education was in Topsfield, and she graduated from Beverly High School with the Class of 1943. She and Carl were high school sweethearts, marrying in November 1943 in the Dane Street Church in Beverly. They moved to Belton, Texas, where Carl was stationed at Fort Hood until Carl was sent overseas, and she moved back to the North Shore. Mrs. Bennett was extremely proud of her husbands service in World War II with the Armys Tank Destroyers in Belgium and Germany, where he received many citations, including two Bronze Stars.
Mrs. Bennett was widowed in 1982 after almost 39 years of marriage. Mrs. Bennett enjoyed gardening, and was also an avid craftsperson, decorator, and travel lover. She worked for some time at Sylvania on Loring Avenue in Salem, Almys in Beverly, the IRS in Andover, and for many years in the mail-order department at Daniel Lows in Salem.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Jim Woods of Sarasota, Fla., and Patricia and Bruce Innis of Beverly, as well as four grandchildren and their spouses: Michael and Karen Andreas of Danvers; Sharon and Scott Santry of Swampscott; Bruce and Lori Innis of Beverly; and Lori Hebert of Beverly.
Mrs. Bennett is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Nicholas and Matthew Andreas of Danvers; Jennifer and Brian Santry of Swampscott; Jeffery, Shelby, Keith and Craig Hebert of Beverly; and Teegan and Marrin Innis of Beverly.
Mrs. Bennett leaves a sister, Marion Creek, of Sarasota, Fla., and a brother, Ralph Watson, as well as nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 29, with a prayer service following at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the North Beverly Cemetery.
TIERNEY, THOMAS H. -- Thomas H. Tierney, 84, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Mary (McNiff) Tierney.
Born in Peabody on May 10, 1923, he was the son of the late Michael and Bridget (McNulty) Tierney. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a Peabody resident for seventy-two years.
For thirty-eight years, Tom was employed at the Peabody Post Office. For many years, he also owned and operated Thomas Advertising, selling marketing and promotional items to many area businesses.
A Middleton resident for the last 12 years, Tom was a fifty-year member of the Peabody Knights of Columbus, a member of the Middleton American Legion, Post 227, a member of the American Postal Workers Union, and was associated for many years with the Holy Name Society at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody.
He is survived by three daughters: Alicia Guinee and her husband Lawrence of Peabody, Mary Mimsi Purdy and her husband Robert of Norwell, and Margaret Tierney of Peabody; two sisters: Mary Dooling of Peabody and Ann Burke of Swampscott; two brothers: John Tierney of Peabody and Robert Tierney of Danvers; six grandchildren; and his friend and companion, Angela Bryson of Middleton. He was the brother of the late James, Helen, and Albert Tierney.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11AM in St. Agnes Church, Boston St., Middleton. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Burial will be private in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. GALLIVAN, EDWARD F. -- Edward F. Gallivan, Sr., 73, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 9, 2008. He was the loving husband of Caroline (Rogers) Gallivan, with whom he shared nearly thirty-one years of marriage.
Born in Framingham on October 17, 1934, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Hilliard) Gallivan. He was raised and educated in Framingham and was a graduate of Framingham High School, Class of 1953. Ed went on to serve in the U.S. Army National Guard for several years.
Ed was proud and active in his trade as a farrier. For more than twenty years, he owned and operated Edward F. Gallivan Horseshoeing in Essex. He also assisted his wife with the operation of The Hungry Fox in Hamilton.
An Essex resident for nearly forty years, Ed was an avid high school hockey fan, and enjoyed following the Hamilton-Wenham and Gloucester teams. For many years he was also active in the Hamilton-Wenham Little League.
In addition to his wife, Ed leaves his children: Catherine Frost and her husband Scott of Beverly, and Edward F. Gallivan Jr. of Ipswich; a granddaughter, the apple of his eye, Madeleine Frost of Beverly; five sisters: Anne OConnor of KY, Mary Sawyer of NC, Ellen Magri of Ashland, Margaret Hogan of Duxbury, and Catherine Spinney of Hinsdale; a brother, Francis Gallivan of NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas Gallivan.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Main St., Essex. Burial will follow in Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8PM in the Morris Funeral Home, 45 No. Main St., Ipswich.
FIELD, MARY J.-- of Danvers, Mary J. (Funston) Field, 80, died Feb. 10, 2008. She was the wife of the late Harold F. Field.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 2, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Margaret (Mulholland) Funston. Mary was raised and educated in Philadelphia. She was employed as a proof reader for Curtis Publishing and The Currier Citizen in her younger years. Mary and her husband settled in Danvers, where they raised their family. She worked as a nurses aide at the Cedar Glen and Hunt Nursing Homes. Mary enjoyed bowling and was a member of two leagues at the Sunnyside Bowladrome.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ardis and Kenneth DeCosta of Billerica and a granddaughter Casey.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 at 11AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Summer St., Danvers. BARBRICK, MARY E. -- Mary E. Barbrick, 89, died Thursday evening, February 7, 2008 in Lee, NH following a brief illness.
Born on Jan. 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Nora (Ring) Barbrick. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School.
Mary was employed as a bookkeeper at Sylvania for many years, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
A lifelong Danvers resident, Mary was a communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church where she was a member of the Sodality of Our Lady and the Holy Rollers. Mary was a gracious and loving woman who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Margaret A. Barbrick, and a loving extended family. She was predeceased by her brother, William Barbrick and his wife Beatrice.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. GUASTAFERRO, IRENE F. -- of Danvers, Irene F. Guastaferro, died Feb. 7, 2008 in a local nursing home. She was the wife of the late Joseph Guastaferro, a well known barber in Danvers.
Born in Arlington, MA on Oct. 5, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Addie Allen, sister of the late Wilbur and Chester Allen and was raised and educated in Stoneham.
Mrs. Guastaferro moved to Danvers with her husband in 1937 and became a life-long resident. She attended the First Baptist Church. She lived at the Tapley Elderly Housing for many years where she made many friends before ill health caused her transfer to Twin Oaks Nursing in Danvers.
She is survived by a son, John Guastaferro of Danvers and a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and David Lord of Danvers, three grandchildren, Richard Lord of Malden, Kenneth and wife Lori Lord of Danvers and Laura Bates and husband Dean of Beverly and two great grandchildren, Rebecca and Samantha Lord of Danvers.

GONGAS, ARTHUR -- Arthur Gongas, 90, died Thursday evening at Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Margaret (OLeary) Gongas, with whom he shared over fifty years of marriage.
Born in Danvers on March 10, 1917, he was the son of the late Michael and Alexandria (Marcou) Gongas. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a lifelong resident of the town.
For more than fifty years, Arthur was employed as a lacquer manufacturer by the former H.A. Mead Company in Peabody.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and especially hunting. He loved spending time with family and friends at his summer home in Alton, NH and for many years was a social member of the Polish Club in Danversport.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Georgia Gongas of Danvers; four grandsons: Peter Gongas of FL, Christopher Gongas of Lynn, Arthur Gongas of Danvers, and Matthew Gongas and his wife Cheryl of Lawrence; four great-grandchildren: Makayla, Madison, and Mia Gongas; a sister, Penny ODell of Groveland; two brothers: William Gongas of Beverly and Louis Gongas of NH; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers and sister: George Pete Gongas, John Pop Gongas, Christopher Gongas, and Catherine Gongas.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. POLISSON, PATRICIA M. -- Patricia M. Polisson, 63, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 following a brief illness at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Gloucester on February 3, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Paul A. and Marguerite P. (Lucey) Polisson of Swampscott. She was raised and educated in Gloucester and Swampscott and was a graduate of Swampscott High School, Class of 1961. She matriculated and graduated from Boston College in 1966 with a degree in foreign languages and education.
For more than thirty years Patricia taught French at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School before retiring in 1997. During that period she also taught English (as a second language) to adult students at Bunker Hill Community College. After her retirement she enjoyed the company of the many close friends she had made during her social and professional life. She reveled in her volunteer efforts at the Swampscott Public Library, which she continued until the end.
She is survived by her immediate family, Richard P. and Sharon O. Polisson of Boston; her niece Elizabeth L. Polisson of Durham, North Carolina; and her nephew Matthew R. Polisson of Oxford, UK. Additionally, she leaves several cousins in Peabody and Gloucester, as well as her many loyal friends.
Burial will be held privately with the immediate family in Beechbrook cemetery Gloucester. Relatives and friends will be invited to a celebration of her life in the late spring at a time and place to be determined. In lieu of flowers, all are invited to make donations in Patricias name to Hospice of the North Shore (specifying Kaplan Family Hospice House), 10 Elm Street, Danvers, MA 01923. The family is eternally grateful to the Kaplan House professional staff, who were so respectful and caring for Patricia during her stay there.
RUSSELL, KEVIN A. -- Kevin A. Russell, 51, a former Danvers resident, died suddenly on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at his home in New Hampshire.
Born in Beverly on December 11, 1956, he was the son of Bertram and Priscilla (Allen) Russell Jr. of Danvers. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Danvers High School, Class of 1976. He then served with the Seabees in the US Navy and had been stationed in Morocco.
Kevin was employed in landscape construction on the North Shore and in New Hampshire. He enjoyed his motorcycle and loved his two dogs, Kira and Libby.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving companion, Karen Grubb of Danville, NH; a sister, Wanda Pierce and her husband Michael of Danvers, three brothers, Mark Russell and his wife Maureen of Reading, Brian Russell and his wife Shirley of Peabody, and Bertram Russell III of Danvers; a dear aunt, Shirley Connery; and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday at 11AM in the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited.
