CREEDEN, MARION -- Marion A. (Kennedy) Creeden, 85, died Thursday evening, May 3, 2007 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Richard C. Creeden, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage.
Born in Salem on Nov. 28, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ellen (Galvin) Kennedy. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1939. She had been a Danvers resident for over fifty years.
Mrs. Creeden was an excellent homemaker who was dedicated to her family. She was a parishioner of St. Richard Church in Danvers. She was an avid bingo player and golfer and an excellent cribbage player.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children and their spouses: John and Sally Creeden of Maryland and Susan and Paul Connolly of Norwood; two grandchildren: Allison Martellini and her husband Cliff of Merrimac and Colin Creeden of Newburyport; two great grandchildren: Madison and Rocco Martellini; two sisters: Catherine Connors of Danvers and Irene Teal of Marshfield; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Mary Connors, Joseph Kennedy, Francis Kennedy, Ellen Mizzi, Anne Kelleher, Marguerite Potter, Doris Smith, and Bridget Strainge.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10AM in St. Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Sunday from 3-7PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Donations in Marions name may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.

GARERI, HELEN ROSE (LUND) of Danvers, Helen Rose (Lund) Gareri, 83, died in Peabody, MA, peacefully and with dignity on Feb. 15, 2007, after a long illness.
Born in Arlington, MA on June 18, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Carroll and Anna (Welch) Lund. A graduate of the former Burdett School of Business, she was married to Peter Robert Gareri, Sr. on Oct. 12, 1948. Raised Roman Catholic, she was an active churchgoer throughout her life.
She and her husband began their family of four children in Cambridge, MA, later moving to Woburn and then Danvers, MA. After settling in Danvers in 1962, she considered this her home. Upon retirement, she lived in Cape Cod in Centerville, MA with her husband for many enjoyable years, and then adventurously moved to the West Coast, in Sonoma, CA nearby to her oldest daughter and son-in-law, where she enjoyed wine country living to the utmost for many years before returning to Danvers in 2003.
Her proudest work accomplishment was her advancement from a bank teller to branch manager of the former Essex County Bank in Danvers, now Bank of America. Her most enjoyed recreational activity was gardening and she was a lover of the ocean.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Peter of Danvers, her four children, Elaine Kenney and son-in-law Bob of Mill Valley, CA, Peter Gareri, Jr., Paul Gareri and daughter-in-law Cathy of Danvers, MA and Jean Avallon of Danvers, MA; her grandson Korey Avallon; her sister Patsy and brother Jimmy Welch; her brother-in-law Al Lutus of Rocklin, CA. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by two brothers, Carroll and Paul Lund and a sister, Ruth Lutus.
She was much loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed by them, especially by her beloved husband and devoted children. We would like to thank all of the staff at Rosewood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their help and support.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Mon. Feb. 19, 2007 at 9:00AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Vst. Hrs are Sun. 2-6PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers.

GRIFFIN, NEWELL DUNCAN of Danvers, Newell Duncan Griffin, Jr., 74, died Feb. 15, 2007. He was the husband of the late Alice Elaine (Riddle) Griffin.
Born in Danvers on Sept. 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Newell D., Sr. and Eleanor G. (Sheppard) Griffin. He was a lifelong resident of Danvers and a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1950. Mr. Griffin served his country during the Korean War with the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1953. Mr. Griffin was employed with Mass Electric as a Lineman and for the past twenty years he worked as a Night Troubleman in Gloucester. He also worked as a bartender at the former Landolphis for twenty years.
Mr. Griffin was a Third Degree Mason with the Amity Lodge in Danvers. He was also a founding member of the Blown Fuses. He enjoyed woodturning and was a master craftsman.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Barry D. and Cindy Griffin of KY, Glenn L. and Cindy Griffin of VT and Matthew J. and Stephanie Griffin of NH, a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Arthur Turgeon of Danvers, eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Julie, Jeffrey, Ben, Caroline and Rachel Griffin, Kerry Smith and Kami Turgeon, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, James R. and James H. Griffin.
His funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Wed., Feb. 21, 2007 in Calvary Episcopal Church, at the corner of Cherry St. and Holten St., Danvers. Vst. Hrs are Tues. 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers.

MICHERONE, ANTONIO -- Antonio D. Micherone, 86, died Saturday, February 17, 2007 following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Antonetta (Terranova) Micherone, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in Everett on September 20, 1920, he was the son of the late Angelo and Antonetta (Difrancesco) Micherone. He was raised and educated in Bostons North End and had been a resident of Hanson for many years.
Mr. Micherone was an honorably discharged veteran of World War II, where he participated in both the battles of Leyte and Okinowa.
For more than thirty years, Mr. Micherone was employed as a fish cutter at the Boston Fish Pier.
He is survived by three sons: Daniel Micherone of Middleton, Stephen Micherone of FL, and Thomas Micherone of Hanson; five grandchildren: Dale, Robin, Kara, Tara, and Michelle; a brother, James Micherone; and a sister, Rosina Rose Cerullo.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:30AM in St. Agnes Church, Boston St., Middleton. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. SVOBODA, BRAD A. -- SSG Brad A. Svoboda, 29, died in a motor vehicle accident on active duty in Panama serving as a Military Policeman with the Army Reserves. He was traveling in a remote area of the country when his HMMWV was struck by a tractor trailer truck on February 22, 2007.
Born in Beverly on September 8, 1977, he was the son of Alexandru and Mary (Davis) Svoboda of Danvers.
He was a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School, Class of 1995. In 2005 he graduated from Salem State College with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. He received his Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Wales at Aberystwyth in 2006.
Brad joined the Army Reserves in March of 1996. He attended Basic Training and Advanced Initial Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. Brad was later assigned to the 94th Military Police Company, Manchester, NH. Brads tours of duty include eight months in Bosnia (2000-2001) in support of Operation Joint Forge and 21 months in Iraq (2002-2004) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He recently volunteered for a six-month tour to Panama for a humanitarian mission, where his unit was setting up a base for work that was to include building roads and schools.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Metal, NATO Metal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Metal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, and various other Army Reserve and active duty awards and commendations.
When his work in Panama was complete, Brad had dreamed of working for a government agency like the FBI or CIA. He was waiting to hear back for several positions.
Adept with computers and a history buff, Brad also loved to travel and had visited most of the United States as well as Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Cyprus, South Korea, Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean. He loved the outdoors, and often went skiing and hiking with friends in the White Mountains.
Known for his sense of humor and ever-present smile, Brad left behind friends all over the world.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Major Robert Svoboda of Ft. Bragg, NC, who recently returned from serving in Afghanistan. He is also survived by his sister, Kelly Cison and her husband, Mark, of Chicago; his paternal grandmother, Navart Svoboda of Lynn; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 10AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Summer St., Danvers. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. LANG, WILLIAM BOB ROBERT -- of Danvers, William Bob Robert Lang, 93, died March 3, 2007 at Beverly Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Eva (Niebrzydowski) Lang, with whom he would have shared 70 years of marriage this November.
Born on Oct. 17, 1913 in Beverly, he was the son of the late Frank and Adeline (Chapman) Lang. Mr. Lang was raised and educated in Beverly, but resided in Danvers since 1926. Mr. Lang was the proprietor of Lang Brothers Shoe Repairing, which had been located on High Street in Danvers. He also was employed for over twenty years at UNEX in Danvers as a tool and dye designer. Mr. Lang was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed golfing and inventing. He was a Jack-of-all-trades.
Besides his wife Eva, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William R., Jr. and Maureen Lang of TX, two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Joseph Scuderi, of S. Hamilton and Donna and John Reynolds, of FL, five grandchildren, Colleen Hendy, Bill Lang, Bill Quimby, Karen Herrick and Lisa MacRae, 8 great grandchildren, a brother Eugene Lang of NH and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Walter and Myrtle Lang and Priscilla Little.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00Am on Weds., March 7, 2007 in St. Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Vst. Hrs. are Tuesday 4:00PM-8:00PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited.

COLE, RONALD W. of Danvers, Ronald W. Cole, Sr., 79, died Monday, March 12, 2007 in his home surrounded by his family, following a long and courageous battle with heart disease. He was the husband of Doris (Craig) Cole, with whom he would have celebrated 52 years of marriage this May.
Born in Lynn on March 11, 1928, he was the son of the late Jerome W. and Florence (Johnson) Cole. Mr. Cole was raised and educated in Lynn and a graduate of Lynn English High School. He had been a resident of Danvers since 1962. Mr. Cole was employed as a District Sales Manager for 32 years with Coca Cola Distributors. He worked in the Boston area and retired in 1989. After retiring he drove buses for Travel Time, N. Reading Transportation and the Town of Danvers. Mr. Cole enjoyed gardening, cars and music, his favorite being jazz. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family. In his younger years, he especially enjoyed bringing his boys to the Red Sox games.
Besides his wife Doris, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Jr. and Marie Cole of Bedford, NH, Steven and Jennifer Cole of Florida and Daniel and Tracy Cole of Boxford, five grandchildren, Tim and his wife Chantal Cole, Kathleen Cole, C. William Cole, Madison and Daniel Jr. Cole. He was predeceased by siblings, Warren Cole and Barbara Lord.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Fri., March 16, 2007 at 9:00AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Vst. Hrs. are Thurs. 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers.

MACLEOD, DOROTHY -- Dorothy E. MacLeod, 74, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Beverly Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Robert B. MacLeod, with whom she shared fifty-two years of marriage.
Born in Salem on February 14, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Adelard and Cora (Roy) Savoie. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1951. She was a resident of Danvers for most of her life.
Mrs. MacLeod previously worked at GTE Sylvania at the former Loring Ave. plant in Salem and also at the former New England Telephone Company in Salem.
She had also served as a local Girl Scout Leader and prior to her illness was a communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and James Chase of Tuftonboro, NH; two grandsons: Robert Chase and his wife Andrea, and David Chase, all of Florida; two great-children: Isabel and Gage Chase; two sisters: Cora LeBlanc and Jean Hartigan; and many nices and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anne Carlsen.
Her Graveside Service will be held on Monday at 10:30AM in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Sylvan Street, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Sunday from 3-5PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Donations in Dorothys name may be made to the Danvers People-to-People Food Pantry, P.O. Box 2076, Danvers, MA 01923.

FOX, BRO. JOHN, C.F.X. -- Brother John M. Fox, C.F.X., a member of the Congregation of the Xaverian Brothers for fifty-three years, died on March 22 after a brief illness at age seventy at Xaverian House, the Xaverian Brothers retirement facility in Danvers.
The son of the late Sydney Fox and Mary Catherine Morrison Fox, he was born in Somerville, MA, on September 1, 1936. After graduating from Keith Academy in Lowell, he entered the Xaverian Brothers in 1954 and received the religious name Sarto. Receiving his BA degree from Catholic University in 1960, he began a forty-four year educational apostolate which would take him to St. Johns Prep in Danvers, Notre Dame High School in Utica, NY, and Bishop Scully High School in Amsterdam, NY where he served as principal for three years.
Along the way he would earn both an MS degree and Doctorate of Education degree from Catholic University. After three years away from the classroom environment as a provincial councilor for the St. Joseph Province of the Xaverian Brothers, Brother John returned to the field of education as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Richmond, VA, an office he held for sixteen years. From 1999 to 2002 he resided at Malden Catholic High School in Malden, MA and continued his secondary school apostolate as a consultant for the Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools network.
In 2002 he moved to the Brothers community home in Venice, FL where he continued to act as a part-time consultant for the Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools and visited the local Florida golf links as often as time allowed. He remained in Venice until three weeks prior to his death. A man of great warmth, humor and sensitivity, Brother John was the quintessential community man in the best Xaverian tradition who made everyone feel welcome and an important part of any occasion.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Linda Fox of Middleton, and two nephews and a niece.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the St. Johns Preparatory School Chapel (Administration Building). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Prep Chapel on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the Xaverian Brothers Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of C. R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Brothers memory may be made to the Xaverian Brothers Retirement Fund at Xaverian Brothers, 4409 Frederick Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21229.
