JULIAND, L. AUDREY -- L. Audrey (Garlington) Juliand, 86, died Saturday, March 4, 2006, with family in attendance, at the Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Beverly, following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Charles S. Juliand, Jr.
Born in New Bedford, Audrey moved with her family to Burlington, VT, and then to Lawrence where she graduated from Lawrence High School in 1936. She was a proud 1940 graduate of Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing, from which she received her R.N. diploma. She married
Mr. H.J. Cass and worked in South Carolina as a public health nurse before returning to the New Bedford area where, virtually single-handedly, she raised five sons. After ending her marriage to Mr. Cass, she bought, operated, and sold a telephone answering service, married
Mr. Charles S. Juliand, Jr., had two more children (a son; and finally, a daughter) and returned to nursing. After retiring from nursing in 1987, she lived in Hampton, NH, and then Derry, NH, before moving to Danvers in 2001.
Mrs. Juliand was a hard-working, fun-loving person who participated in and enjoyed many leisure activities. These included dancing, travel, bowling, doing crosswords, playing Scrabble, crocheting, and being with her family. While two sons, Terry and Robert Cass, predeceased her, she is survived by four sons: Rick Cass of New Port, FL, Alan and Bill Cass of New Bedford, Chuck Juliand of Danvers, and a daughter, Janet Juliand of Sharon. She also leaves a niece and nephew, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, her honorary seventh son Peter Lesco of Providence, RI; and many friends, especially Ruth Woodhouse, Fay Barret, and Leah Hood. Her vivacity, companionship, and love will be sorely missed.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 14, 2006 from 5:30-7:00PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square, with services immediately following. Relatives and friends are invited. There will be an additional memorial service on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 12:30PM in the First Unitarian Church, corner of Union and County Sts., New Bedford. CARBONE, PATRICIA A. -- Patricia A. (Waldron) Carbone, 75, died Monday, April 3, 2006, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Peter S. Carbone.
Born in Harrisburg, PA on June 12, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Ethel (McGinnis) Waldron. She was raised and educated in Pennsylvania and graduated in 1948 from the former Harrisburg Catholic High School. She was also employed with Bell Telephone of PA. She moved to Massachusetts and resided in Salem for 20 years prior to moving to Danvers in 1976. Mrs. Carbone was a communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church. She was involved in the N.S. Merchants Womens Bowling League for 25 yrs. She was an avid Bingo player with her friend Lorraine Ferneza and loved to travel. She also had been employed part-time with N.E. Telephone, Jordan Marsh, Lechmere and McDonalds, aside from being a loving mother and homemaker.
Besides her husband, Peter with whom she shared 53 years of marriage, she is survived by her children and their spouses; Joseph and Joanne Carbone of Peabody, Peter Carbone of Oakham, Patty and Gary Sanderson of Danvers, Barbara and Mark Moroney of Danvers, Donna and Arthur Modugno of Beverly and Cindy and Alan Larrabee of NH, siblings and their spouses; Emmett and Ann Waldron, Mary Ludes, Betty Sariano and Frances and Robert Hawley all of PA, brother and sister-in-law; John Marcolina and Jane Waldron, grandchildren; Alan, Adam, Andrew and April Larrabee, Anthony and Kendra Mielcarz; Colleen and William Moroney, Peter and Joseph Carbone and Jason Modugno, and several nieces and nephews and old school pals for PA. She was predeceased by siblings; Martin Waldron, Ethel Risser and Joan Marcolina and brothers-in-law; Joseph Ludes, Richard Risser and Bud Sariano.
Mrs. Carbones funeral Mass will be celebrated on Fri., April 7, 2006 at 9AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery. POTTER, Lloyd E. -- Lloyd E. Potter, 88, died Sunday evening, April 2, 2006, at a local nursing facility following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Helen (Lachance) Potter.
Born in Peabody on September 2, 1917, he was the son of the late Chester and Josephine (Little) Potter. He was raised and educated in Peabody and had resided in Danvers for over sixty years.
An honorably discharged veteran, Mr. Potter served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
For many years, Mr. Potter was employed at the Essex Agricultural School, retiring as buildings and grounds foreman. A longtime member of the former Danvers Grange, he was currently a member of the Beverly Grange. He was also a member of VFW Post #2359 in Danvers.
He is survived by a sister, Barbara (Potter) Worsencroft of Beverly, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Leonard, Calvin, and Kenneth Potter.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday at 11:30AM in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 3-5PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.
CORVO, KAREN E. -- Karen Ellen Corvo, 44, died suddenly on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at her home.
Born in Medford on April 4, 1961, she was the daughter of Elaine (Johnson) (Corvo) Lazenby of Boston and Gaetano Guy Corvo of Danvers and his companion Dolly Mueller. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a Deans List graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. She went on to further her education earning a bachelors degree at Salem State College, where she graduated magna cum laude.
For 14 years, Karen was employed at Datacube in Peabody and Danvers. More recently, she worked as a daycare provider.
She loved being by the water and was a wonderful mother to her children.
In addition to her parents, she leaves two children, Shane and Jenna Mae Corvo, two sisters, Lisa Corvo of Lowell and Julie Paradiso and her husband Tim of Boston, two step-brothers, Eliot Lazenby and his wife Kim and Clifton Lazenby and his wife Stephanie, and a loving extended family including aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. HERLAND, GENEVIEVE -- Genevieve (Florczyk) Herland, 80, died in her home Saturday March 18, 2006. She was the wife of the late George L. Herland, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.
Born on Sept. 16, 1925, in Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Slawik) Florczyk. She was raised and educated in Syracuse and moved to Topsfield in 1968 with her husband and family. She was a communicant of the St. Rose of Lima Church. Mrs. Herland was an avid reader and frequented the library. She enjoyed gardening and traveling. She also was employed with Western Electric for 13 years.
She is survived by four sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward Herland of Swampscott, John Herland of Reading, Norman and Melinda Herland of Charlotte, NC and Stephen Herland of Ipswich; a brother Rev. Walter Florczyk of NY; two sisters, Mary Livermore of CT and Pauline Downey of NY; 3 granddaughters, Camille, Noel and Brittany Herland, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased a son Philip Herland; by siblings, Stanley, Edward and John Florczyk and Adeline Silpacki and Terry Howe.
Mrs. Herlands Memorial Mass will be held on Wed., March 22, 2006 at 9:00AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, Park St, Topsfield. There are no visiting hours. THOMPSON, THERESE M. -- Therese Marie (Durette) Thompson, 67, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at the New England Home for the Deaf. She was the loving wife of Edgar J. Thompson, with whom she shared thirty years of marriage.
Born in Hartford, CT on April 6, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Anna (Roy) Durette. She was raised and educated in Fall River, and was a graduate of the Boston School for the Deaf, Class of 1954.
Mrs. Thompson was a life member of the International Catholic Association of the Deaf, and a founder and past secretary of the Fall River Chapter of that organization. She was also a member and former secretary of Quincy Deaf Club, and a member and former secretary of the Friends of the New England Home for the Deaf.
For a short time, Mrs. Thompson was employed as a cook at the New England Home for the Deaf.
An avid reader, she enjoyed crocheting. She was a proud homemaker and a wonderful cook.

SULTZBACH, HARRY L. -- Harry L. Sultzbach, 83, died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Salem Hospital. He was the husband of Muriel (Forcier) Sultzbach, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in West Haven, CT on Sept. 21, 1922, he was the son of the late Sydney and Eva Sultzbach. He was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1941, and went on to serve as a signalman in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was decorated with a bronze star serving as a member of an armed guard crew aboard the USS Jonathan Edwards.
Mr. Sultzbach was employed as a sheet metal worker. He was a member of Local 17 Sheet Metal Workers Union; and began his career at H.S. Gilman of Salem.
Mr. Sultzbach was a member of the Beverly Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses.
He had a longtime romance with the sea, sailing the Mediterranean and Pacific oceans in the Navy and later sailed our coastal waters with great joy. His wife, Muriel, served as First Mate, his sons and daughters as crew, and David Webb, with whom he sailed Puget Sound, as fellow traveler on many sea-going adventures.
Harry's extensive family was the focus of his care and efforts every day of his life and the source of his greatest enjoyment.
Besides his wife, he is survived a sisters, Mathilde Brennan and her husband Frederick of Virginia Beach, VA; 8 children: Diane Sultzbach of Danvers, Judith Turcotte and her husband Andy of Topsfield, Carol Smith and her husband Lyle of Middleton, Mark Sultzbach and his wife Doreen of North Andover, Keith Sultzbach and his wife Carleen MacKay of Middleton, John Sultzbach and his wife Roberta Driscoll of Ipswich, MaryEllen Sultzbach and her husband Dr. Alexander Constan of Waterford, CT, and Laurie Finkle and her husband David of Tavernier, FL. He also leaves 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nices and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, David Sultzbach, and three sisters: Helen Bojan, Estelle Vellar, and Marian Carnevale.

DEERY, WILLIAM C. -- William C. Deery, 52, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Maureen (Cosgrove) Deery.
Born in Camden, NJ, he was the son of Lillian (Miller) Deery and the late William Deery. He was raised and educated in Oaklyn, NJ and was a graduate of Paul VI High School, Class of 1971. He attended the College of William and Mary and graduate with a Bachelors Dergee in psychology from Northeastern University.
Mr. Deery was a longtime resident of Danvers. For several years, he was employed as a social studies teacher at Bishop Fenwick High School.
Besides his wife and mother, Bill is survived by a son, Ryan C. Deery of Manchester, a daughter, Erin Mary-Bridget Deery of Boston, and many relatives and friends.

SHINE, BRO. URBAN, CFX -- Brother Urban Shine, C.F.X., a member of the Congregation of the Xaverian Brothers for seventy-three years, died after a brief illness on March 11 at age ninety at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA.
The son of the late Frank Shine and Mary Liddy Shine, Paul Patrick Shine was born in Brooklyn, NY, on October 26, 1915. After attending the St. Joseph Juniorate in Peabody, MA, he entered the Xaverian Brothers in 1933 and received the religious name Urban.
Upon professing vows in 1935, Brother Urban began a forty-nine year teaching career which would take him to St. Josephs Preparatory School in Bardstown, Kentucky; St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky; Mt. St. Joseph High School in Baltimore, Maryland; and St. Francis High School in Utica, New York, where he served as principal from 1956 to 1959. After spending nine years as a missionary in Mumias, Kenya, as Headmaster of St. Peters Secondary School, Brother Urban settled in at St. Johns Preparatory School in Danvers as a classroom teacher, director of the Xaverian Brothers Guild of Massachusetts, CCD teacher at St. Mary of the Annunciation and St. Alphonsus parishes in Danvers, and moderator of the St. Johns Family Swimming Club until his retirement in 1986.
For the past twenty years he resided at Xaverian House, the Brothers Retirement Home on the St. Johns Prep campus. Receiving both his BA and Masters Degrees in French from Catholic University, Brother Urban pursued further graduate studies at the University of Maryland and Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda.
A tall and gregarious man, he exuded charm and fraternal charity and was a favorite with his students wherever he happened to be teaching. Brother Urban was preceded in death by two brothers, Neal and William. He is survived by his sisters Claire Denver and Marilyn Swenson and his brother Frank Shine and their families. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the St. Johns Preparatory School Chapel (Administration Building). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Prep Chapel on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Xaverian Brothers Cemetery. Arrangements will be under the direction of C.R. Lyons and Sons, Funeral Directors, Danvers. MARTIN, GEORGE H. -- George Henry Martin, Sr., 83, died Friday, March 10, 2006 unexpectedly at his home. He was the husband of Dorothy A. (Coveney) Martin, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Boston on September 28, 1922, he was the son of the late Henry and Flora (Roberts) Martin. He earned his bachelors degree in industrial engineering from Northeastern University, and a masters degree in business administration from Boston University. A resident of Brooksby Village for the last two years, George had been an active Danvers resident for over fifty years.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Martin was a U.S. Navy Aviator. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
He was employed for many years as an engineer for Polaroid, retiring in 1982. He also worked for several years as a management consultant for ASA.
Mr. Martin was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Amity Lodge, AF&AM of Danvers, the Danvers Historical Society, and the Danvers Kiwanis Club. In recent years, he was also a member of the South Congregational Church in Peabody.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, George H. Martin, Jr., and his wife, Elaine, of Virginia, a daughter-in-law, Karen Martin of Danvers, four grandchildren: Jennifer Flewelling of Merrimac, Heather Fojt of Florida, Christopher Martin of Virginia, and Andrea Martin of Virginia; a great-grandchild: Delaney Flewelling of Merrimac, a sister, Marjorie Richardson of North Andover and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late David W. Martin and the brother of the late John Martin and Shirley Martin.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. Funeral Services will be private.
