Marilyn I. Swift
Osterville - Marilyn I. Swift, a retired elementary school teacher, died at Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999 at her home.
She was born in Milford and before she become a teacher, she worked in the office of the Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
She worked as a teacher in Franklin and Natick.
In 1954, Pope Pius XII awarded her the Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice in recognition of the work she did for the Roman Catholic Church during World War II.
Survivors include her brother, Francis L. Swift of Osterville; a sister, Sister Nancy Swift, R.C.E., also of Osterville; two nephews, five nieces; four grandnephews and four grandnieces.
Burial was private.
Gertrude S. White , 87
Centerville - Gertrude (Skinner) White , 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999 at Falmouth Hospital.
She was the wife of Howard A. White , who died in November of 1998.
Born in Shelton, Conn., Mrs. White moved to Centerville in 1984 from Glastonbury, Conn. She was an officer with Smythe Manufacturing Co. in Bloomfield, Conn., until her retirement.
Mrs. White was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed golfing, bowling and extensive traveling, which included trips to Alaska and across the Arctic Circle and in 1992 through the Panama Canal.
She is survived by a niece, Judith Copeland Robertson of Falmouth; and a nephew, Fred Gill Copeland of Manchester, Conn.
Thomas L. Charnley, 85
Marstons Mills - Thomas L. Charnley, 85, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999 at Falmouth Hospital.
He was the husband of Gloria (Manteca) Charnley.
Born in Gorgona, Panama, Mr. Charnley was a graduate of MIT. He moved to Marstons Mills in 1984 from Sudbury.
A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he served in the Northern African and Southern European theaters.
Mr. Charnley was a design engineer and draftsman for National Research Corporation and Varian Corporation in Lexington. He retired in 1981.
He was a communicant of Christ the King Parish and a member of the 320th Bomber Group.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Michael F. Charnley of Watertown, N.Y., and Thomas A. Charnley of Monkton, Vt.; a sister, Mary A. Crimmins of Quincy; and seven grandchildren.

Frances A. Fuller, 76
Osterville - Frances A. (Lawrence) Fuller, 76, a Red Cross volunteer, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999 at the JML Care Center, Falmouth, after a long illness.
She was born in Belmont and graduated from Classical High School in Springfield. She attended the Hartford School of Design.
She lived in Troy, N.Y., for many years, where she did architectural and drafting design work.
She was a volunteer for the Red Cross throughout her life.
She lived in Houston for 13 years before moving to the Cape in 1983.
She was the mother of the late Mary L. Fuller.
Survivors include her husband, Frank M. Fuller, a son, Richard L. Fuller of Evan, Ga.; three sisters, Jean Blye of New York, Nancy Koniges of Seattle, and Helen Collins of Springfield; and two granddaughters.
Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery
in Cotuit.

Marie L. Lake, 80
West Barnstable - Marie L. (Guarente) Lake, 80, a school volunteer, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of John R. Lake Sr. for 55 years.
Mrs. Lake was born in Boston and educated in Newton. After marrying, she volunteered on various school parent teacher associations. She spent her summers in Scituate.
In 1987, Mrs. Lake moved to West Barnstable to be closer to her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John R. Lake Jr., DDS, of West Barnstable; and one grandson.
Burial was private.

Fred F. Mitchell
Fred F. Mitchell died Dec. 29, 1998 after a two-year battle with acute leukemia.
He was the husband of Lorraine A. (Doherty) Mitchell.
He was the owner of Mitchell Roofing Company of Needham, and was a World War II army veteran.
Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters Lisa A. Mitchell of Medway, Mary E. Bronski of Needham, Caroline F. DeLia of South Dennis and Paula J. Creed of Medway; a son, Fred F. Mitchell III of Crofton, Md.; sisters Mabel L. Wright of Los Angeles and Dorothy J. Pattie of Needham; and six grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Fred Mitchell, former manager of the Boston Braves and Chicago Cubs; and Mabel (Goulding) Mitchell.
Burial was at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville.
Jeanne E. Quinn
Centerville - Jeanne E. (Rourke) Quinn died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of Laurence Quinn.
Born in Boston, Mrs. Quinn was employed by Norwood public schools for 35 years as a speech therapist. She retired as coordinator of speech and hearing.
She enjoyed golf and was a long-time member of the Woodland Golf Club in Auburndale and the Cummaquid Golf Club.
Surviving besides her husband are a brother, James A. Rourke of Waltham, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
The funeral and burial were private.

Charles J. Blunt, 81
Duncan, S.C. - Charles Joseph Blunt, 81, a summer resident of Osterville, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999 at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
He was the husband of Mary Virginia Smith Blunt.
A native of Richmond, Va., Mr. Blunt lived in Louisville, Ky., and in Allendale, N.J., for 25 years before moving to Spartanburg in 1991.
He graduated from Xavier University, Cincinnati, and received a master's degree in business administration from the University of Louisville.
Mr. Blunt served in the Navy during World War II. He was an executive vice president of the Joseph E. Seagram Co. & Sons, where he worked for 38 years until his retirement.
He was an avid golfer, playing at River Falls and Willow Creek.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mary Ellen Goldstein of Worthington, Mass., and Kathleen Gladchuk of Houston, Texas ; two sons, Charles Joseph Blunt of Jersey City, N.J., and Fred Blunt of Moore, S.C.; a sister, Maude Blunt Becker of Louisville, Ky, and nine grandchildren.

Stanley X. Burgess, 77
Cotuit - Stanley X. Burgess, 77, a former grounds and structures foreman, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999 at the Cape Heritage Nursing Home in Sandwich.
He was the husband of Georgia (Dottridge) Burgess for 50 years.
Born in Providence, R.I., Mr. Burgess moved at an early age with his family to Falmouth, where he graduated from Lawrence High School in 1940.
During World War II, Mr. Burgess served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Cleveland for 3 1/2 years in the Pacific. Following his discharge, he returned to Cotuit to join his parents, who had moved from Falmouth.
Mr. Burgess worked 30 years for the Town of Barnstable as a grounds and structures foreman, where he received many recognitions for planning, planting and caring for the flower beds located in various memorial parks and areas maintained by the town.
He enjoyed walking, watching sports, reading, music and playing Scrabble.
Surviving besides his wife are a sister, Beatrice B. Emerald of East Falmouth; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.
