Ida Jones-Henry, 89

Centerville - Ida (Seaman) Jones-Henry, 89, a homemaker and retired secretary, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998 of complications from Parkinson's disease.

She was the wife of the late Arthur E. Jones-Henry.

Born in Pugwash, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was the daughter of the noted sea captain and artist, Alfred E. Seaman.

She moved to Massachusetts in 1947 and spent her summers in Centerville from 1955 until moving there permanently in 1965. She moved to Centerville from Randolph.

While living in Randolph, Mrs. Jones-Henry worked as an executive Secretary for American Biltrite Co. in Stoughton.

During her years on the Cape, she enjoyed arts and crafts, the theater, organ and piano music, travel and making jams and jellies.

Mrs. Jones-Henry was a member of the Cape Cod Organ Society and the Progressive Club.

Surviving are three sons, Barry W. Jones-Henry of Hyannis, Arthur A. Jones-Henry and J. Charles Jones-Henry, both of Centerville; a grandson; and a nephew.

A funeral service was held at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, Marstons Mills. Burial followed in Mosswood Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675; or to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Cape Cod Chapter, P.O. 1134, East Sandwich, MA 02537.

Elizabeth H. Kirk, 80

Centerville - Elizabeth Hutchison Kirk, 80, an accomplished musician, died Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis of a cerebral hemorrhage resulting from a fall.

She was the wife of the Rev. Nevin Miller Kirk.

Mrs. Kirk was born in Philadelphia and was a graduate of Radcliffe College. She studied organ with Carl Weinrich and piano with Isabell Vengerova and was a frequent recitalist and performer in addition to her duties as organist at many churches.

During World War II, Mrs. Kirk served in the recreational division of the American Red Cross.

She taught music at the Dana Hall School in Wellesley and at the Brearley School in New York.

She was the director of music at the Craigville Tabernacle in Craigville for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Kirk was a member of the South Congregational Church in Centerville, Church Women United, Radcliffe Club of Cape Cod, the United Nations Association and the American Guild of Organists. She was also an active volunteer with the Radcliffe Alumnae Association.

Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, John Kirk of Boston, Thomas Kirk of Catskill, N.Y., and Philip Kirk of Centerville; a daughter, Mary E. Kirk of New York City; and two grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at South Congregational Church in Centerville.

A memorial service will be held at the Craigville Tabernacle next summer.

Richard P. Linnell, 56

Hyannis - Richard Paul Linnell, 56, a towing business owner, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital.

He was the husband of Elaine ( White ) Linnell.

Born in Hyannis, Mr. Linnell was educated in Barnstable schools. He lived in Centerville and Hyannis all his life.

Mr. Linnell owned Linnell's Towing in Hyannis for many years until 1988 when ill health forced his early retirement.

For many years, he was a call firefighter for the Hyannis Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing and boating.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Annie Pauline (Oliver) Linnell of Hyannis; two daughters, Laurie Linnell of Cotuit and Dawn Linnell of Hyannis; four brothers, George Linnell of Cotuit, Curtis Linnell of Centerville, Thomas Linnell of Florida and David Linnell of Hyannis; a sister, Mary Michaud of Florida; a granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral and burial were private.

Eleanor G. Lyons, 64

Marstons Mills - Eleanor G. "Bunny" Lyons, 64, a retired teacher, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital.

She was the wife of William R. Lyons.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Lyons graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Roxbury and Emmanuel College in Boston.

She married in 1956 and a few years later moved to Cohasset. Mrs. Lyons had lived there for 25 years before moving to Marstons Mills.

She was a teacher at Fontbonne Academy in Milton before taking an early retirement.

She enjoyed vacationing in Naples, Fla., during cold winter months and spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Susan E. LeVangie and Lisa M. Sydiowski, both of Sandwich; three sons, William R. Lyons Jr. of Sandwich, Kevin P. Lyons of West Barnstable, and Jeffrey M. Lyons of Ackwirth, Ga.; and 14 grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was held in Christ the King Church, Mashpee.

Burial followed in Sandwich Town Cemetery.

Martha F. Ojala, 98

West Barnstabe - Martha Familia (Wahtola) Ojala, 98, an immigrant who came to the United States in 1910 from Sievi, Finland, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1998 at her home after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Waino Ojala.

After moving to the United States, Mrs. Ojala lived in Maynard and Fitchburg, where she studied nursing at Burbank Hospital. She moved to her Route 6A home in West Barnstable in 1928.

Mrs. Ojala was a founding member of the West Barnstable Laestadian (Lutheran) Church.

Following her husband's death in 1955, Mrs. Ojala opened and operated Ojala Farm, a family-style restaurant on Route 6A that specializes in Finnish cuisine. She retired from the business at age 86, but her grandson, Andrew Ojala, continues to operate the restaurant.

Mrs. Ojala also loved gardening and was devoted to her family.

She is survived by three sons, Ralph Ojala of Centerville, Arne Ojala of West Barnstable and Patti Ojala of Vernon, Conn.; three daughters, Martha Tooker, Marion St. George and Alica Sorvo, all of Centerville; a sister, Edith Sarkinen of Centerville; 25 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was also the mother of the late Ruth Ojala.

A funeral service was held at John-Lawrence Funeral Home, Marstons Mills.

John Repose, Jr., 68

Centerville - John Repose, Jr., 68, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community-Pavilion in Hyannis.

Born in Hyannis, he was the husband of Eileen B. (Oldham) Repose, whom he married in the Hyannis Federated Church in 1955.

During the Korean War, Mr. Repose served with the 45th AAA Gunnery Brigade in Germany. After his discharge, he worked for R.B. Corcoran, Robert Cannon, and F.W. Webb. For the past 11 years, he was employed by Botello Lumber in Mashpee, retiring in July.

He was a former member of the British American Club of Cape Cod.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son David J. Repose of Marstons Mills; daughters Karen E. Richardson and Linda A. Wilcox, both of Centerville; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He was grandfather of the late Russell Tovet.

Funeral services were held at the John-Lawrence funeral home. Burial was private.

Eleonora L. Stringer, 86

Hyannis - Eleonora (Lagergren) Stringer, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998 at her home after a long illness.

She was the wife of Herbert D. Stringer.

Born in Osterville, Mrs. Stringer was the last surviving member of the Lagergren family of Osterville.

She attended Barnstable schools and for many years worked in the assessor's office for the town of Barnstable.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hyannis.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two nieces and five nephews.

A graveside service was held in Oakneck Cemetery.
