Barbara 'Pat' Casassa
Barnstable - Barbara V. "Pat" (Patnode) Casassa, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a long illness. She was the wife of Patti M. Casassa for 41 years.
Born, raised and educated in Keene, N.H., Mrs. Casassa graduated from Keene High School and interned at the New York City Hospital as a nurse. Shortly after, she moved to the Springfield area and worked for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. for five years. At the birth of her first child, she left work to spend time with her family. She and her family summered on the Cape for 35 years and moved to Barnstable permanently in 1997.
Mrs. Casassa was very active at St. Theresa's Church in South Hadley, where she was elected "Woman of the Year" for the Rosary Altar Society. An accomplished bowler and golfer, she held the high single award in the Massachusetts Mutual Bowling League for many years. As a golfer, she was most proud of her eagle on the fifth hole at The Old Fairgrounds golf course in Barnstable.
Surviving besides her husband are a son, Paul M. Casassa Jr. of Chicopee; a daughter, Lisa Marie Casassa of Indiana; two brothers, George Patnode and Ronald Patuode, both of Keene, N.H.; two sisters, Dorothy Golab of Valrico, Fla., and Vivian Flecchia of Bedford, N.H.; three granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held at St. Theresa's Church in South Hadley. Burial was private.

Eunice Aimira Henry, 77
Hyannis - Eunice Aimira (Bassett) Henry, 77, a former hospital worker, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998 at the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Cape & Islands in Sandwich.
Mrs. Henry was born, raised and educated in Harwich.
She worked in the housekeeping department at Cape Cod Hospital for a number of years and also was employed as a chambermaid for the Hyannis Travel Inn.
In the early 1980s, Mrs. Henry moved to West Palm Beach, Fla., where she was employed in the housekeeping department at the Good Samaritan Hospital. She moved back to Hyannis in the mid1980s.
Mrs. Henry loved country music and was an avid Red Sox fan.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth W. Bassett of Burke, Va., and Robert B. Henry of Hyannis; one daughter, Judith L. Henry of Hyannis, four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held in the John Lawrence Funeral Home, Marstons Mills, followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Paul G. Kamp, 72
Hyannis - Paul G. Kamp, 72, of Yarmouthport and Naples, Fla., died Sunday, October 18, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital.
He was the husband of Ann Stewart Kamp and the late Teresa (Gubbins) Kamp.
Born in Dorchester, he was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Watertown and also graduated from Boston College in 1951. He was a former resident of Scituate and Stow and summered on the Cape in Yarmouthport and Brewster since 1988, spending his winters in Florida.
A World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Kamp served from 1945 to 1946. He also served in Korea as a 1st lieutenant in the Air Force from 1951 to 1953 and was served with the Coast Guard Reserves.
Mr. Kamp was a clinical research associate for Astra pharmaceuticals. He retired in 1988 after 20 years of service.
An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Hatherly County Club of Scituate. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Naples, Fla., and the Cape Cod Chapter of Boston College Alumni Association. He was also a volunteer for the Hospice of Cape Cod.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Paul G. Kamp of Woonsocket, R.I., and Edward R. Kamp of Scituate; three daughters, Christine M. Cichello of Milton, Cecilia F. Sullivan of Lancaster and Caroline T. Warner of Marshfield; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held at St Francis Xavier Cabrini Church, Scituate. Burial was private in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Bourne.

Charles C . Chase, 71
Osterville Charles C. Chase, 71, a retired cost estimator, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Helen (Hanson) Chase.
Born in Cambridge, he was educated in Arlington schools and attended Northeastern University in Boston. He lived in Concord for 20 years before moving to Osterville in 1989.
A World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Chase worked for more than 30 years as a cost estimator for Raytheon Corp. in Waltham and Wayland. He retired in 1989.
He was an avid golfer and diehard Boston Bruins fan.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Kenneth Chase of Merrimack, N.H., Raymond Chase of Jonesboro, Ark., and David Chase of Plymouth; a daughter, Carol Macone of Cape Coral, Fla.; a sister, Barbara Urquhart of Arlington; and 10 grandchildren.
Services were private.

Charles A. Brady, 49
Hyannis - Charles A. Brady, 49, a disabled Vietnam War veteran, died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 9, 1998 at his home.
Born in Wareham, he attended schools in Sandwich.
Mr. Brady lived in several areas of the country, most recently in Hyannis for the past seven years. In 1968 he entered the Marine Corps and was discharged in 1971. He was 100 percent service-related disabled.
Mr. Brady was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Nam Vets Association of Cape Cod & Islands, the Marine Corps League Cape Cod Attachment and the Vietnam Veterans of America.
He enjoyed motorcycles, especially Harley-Davidsons, computers and music.
Surviving are his mother, Geraldine Brady; his companion in life, Julie Bender; a son, Charles Keith Brady of Manchester, N.H.; two daughters, Monica Fancher of Cape Coral, Fla., and Traci Montondo of Hyannis; two brothers, Robert Brady of Kissimmee, Fla., and Richard Brady of Sandwich; a sister, Lynn Tritton, of Lafargeville, N.Y.; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service was held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Dorothea (Gray) Cabral, 71
Hyannis - Dorothea (Gray) Cabral, 71, a homemaker, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital after a brief illness.
She was the wife of Donald K. Cabral, who died in 1983.
A native of Cape Cod, she was raised in Yarmouth and lived in Hyannis for many years.
Surviving are two sons, John Syrjala Sr. of Hyannis and Richard Syrjala of Bangor, Maine; a sister, Marilyn Harbin of Ormond by the Sea, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were private.
Russell S. Dexter, 77
Barnstable - Russell S. Dexter, 77, a former shoe salesman, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998 in Barnstable.
He was the husband of Alice (Nickerson) Dexter.
Mr. Dexter was born in Boston. He served in the Air Force and National Guard from 1943 to 1960, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Mr. Dexter's mother taught him to fly a plane when he was 14. Later he became a personal pilot and aide to Massachusetts Gov. Christian Herter from 1953 to 1957. He was also sales manager of Clark's of England Shoe Co. and later became an independent salesman and supplier.
After moving to the Cape in 1973, he operated a shoe outlet in Yarmouthport.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Russell M. Dexter of Boston; two stepsons, Peter Phillips of Londonderry, N.H., and Paul Giuliana of Petosky, Mich.; a daughters, Pamela Winterburn of Park City, Utah; two stepdaughters, Pauline Edmundson of Memphis, Tenn., and Lysbeth Garza of Houston; and 14 grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, Hyannis. Burial was private.

John H. "Jack" Pierce, 82
Centerville - John H. "Jack" Pierce, 82, a painting business owner, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998 at his home.
He was the husband of Jayne (Shelley) Pierce.
Born in Provincetown, Mr. Pierce served in the Coast Guard as a surfman before heading to Bridgeport, Conn., in the 1940s. During World War II he made shells at Remington Arms.
After the war, he remained in Bridgeport. He was a painting contractor and a life member of the Allied Painters Union.
In the 1960s, Mr. Pierce moved back to the Cape and continued his career as a painter and private contractor with his business, Colonial Art Decorators. He also worked for more than 30 years at the Mellon Estate in Oyster Harbors. He retired in 1988 at the age of 72.
Mr. Pierce was a skilled motorcycllst, boat enthusiast and private airplane pilot. He was a member of the Clipped Shirttail Club, and his first solo flight was in 1971 at the age of 55.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, John G. Pierce of Brewster; two daughters, Laurellee Coolidge and Marjory Linda Hinckley, both of Hyannis; two brothers, George G. Pierce of Wellfleet and Frederick E. Pierce of Hyannis; a sister, Evelyn MacDonald of Hyannis; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, Marstons Mills.

Louis A. Woodland, 89
Marstons Mills - Louis A. Woodland, 89, an accomplished seaman and associate professor, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of the late Carolyn (Jones) Woodland.
Born in Fall River, he graduated from the Massachusetts Nautical School (USS Nantucket) in 1929.
A master mariner, Mr. Woodland followed the sea all his adult life in the merchant marine, Navy and at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Mr. Woodland was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" for service in the Marianas and the Phillippines.
In 1969, he retired from the Naval Reserve with the rank of captain and from Massachusetts Maritime Academy as an associate professor.
He was a life member of St. John's Lodge No.1 AF & AM, Newport, R.I. and a member of the Vinland Lodge No. 703 of Cape Cod Vasa Order of America.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth McAdams of Centerville, a son, Louis A. Woodland Jr. of Pahrump, Nev.; a granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.
A memorial service was held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Route 6A, Barnstable.
Burial was private.
