PORTLAND, Maine - Evelyn N. (Nelson) Meyer, 69, of Portland, formerly of Shrewsbury, Mass. where she was a retired town employee, died Tuesday, June 4, in Maine Medical after a year - long battle with cancer.

Her husband, Leo E. Meyer, died in 1983. She leaves two daughters, Doris Samaras of Falmouth and Joanne White of Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Gladys Bozenhard of Shrewsbury; a brother, Alvar Nelson of Kearsarge, N.H.; and three grandchildren. She was born in Shrewsbury, daughter of Svea and Otto Nelson, and lived most of her life in Shrewsbury before moving to Portland five years ago. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School.

Mrs. Meyer worked for the town of Shrewsbury and then Commonwealth Gas Co. before retiring. Most recently, she worked part - time at L.L. Bean. She also volunteered at the Flower Box at Maine Medical Center, St. Mary's Garden Club and the Visiting Board of Children's Hospital. She was a member of Woodfords Congregational Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading, antiques and participating in a theater group.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, in Woodfords Congregational Church, 202 Woodford St. Burial will be private. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 7, in Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Memorial donations may be made to Dana - Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Sixth Floor, Brookline, MA 02445; attention: Contribution Services.

Angelina Morcone, 91

NORTHBRIDGE - Angelina (Deschene) Morcone, 91, of 911 Main St., Whitinsville, formerly of Milford, died Tuesday, June 11, in Milford - Whitinsville Regional Hospital, Milford, after an illness.

Her husband, Samuel W. Morcone, died in 1967. She leaves two sons, the Rev. Nicholas J. Morcone of Hingham and Paul P. Morcone of Whitinsville; a sister, Helen Hall of Whitinsville; and two granddaughters. Three sisters and four brothers predeceased her. She was born and raised in Whitinsville, daughter of Philias and Isabelle (Aurelie) Deschene, and moved to Milford in 1940 and returned to Whitinsville in 1994. She graduated from Northbridge High School in 1928.

Mrs. Morcone was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Milford, and enjoyed reading.

The funeral will be held Friday, June 14, from Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville (www.carrfuneralhome.com), with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Cross Street, Whitinsville. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 14, in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Milford. Calling hours are 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, in the funeral home. Please omit flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Geriatric Authority of Milford, 1 Countryside Drive, Milford, MA 01757.

I. John Murphy III, 56

WORCESTER - I. John Murphy III, 56, of 15 Pocasset Ave., a claims specialist, died Monday, June 3, at home after an illness.

He leaves his wife, Patricia M. (Reidy) Young Murphy; two daughters, Deborah M. and Nada M. Young, both of Worcester; four brothers, Brian H. Murphy of Cincinnati, Gerald X. Murphy of Warwick, R.I., William J. Murphy of Wellington, Fla., and Peter J. Murphy of West Greenwich, R.I.; three sisters, Marilou Murphy of Newport, R.I., Teresa G. Murphy of Pawtucket, R.I., and Jodi J. Murphy of Tigard, Ore.; two granddaughters; nephews and nieces. He was born in Pecos, Texas, son of Irving J. and Rita A. (Reynolds) Murphy, and was raised in Providence. He lived many years in Worcester. He graduated from Providence College and was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Vietnam.

Mr. Murphy was a Disabled American Veterans claims specialist for the Veterans Administration in Worcester and Boston for 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Jefferson section of Holden, Harold N. Keith American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in West Boylston. He was a life member of Worcester Chapter of Disabled American Veterans.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden (www.milesfuneralhome). Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Room 1575B, JFK Building, Boston, MA 02203.

Yvette M. Naze, 85
Monday, June 10, 2002

HUDSON - Yvette M. (Roberts) Naze, 85, of Hudson, died Saturday, June 8, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester.

She leaves her husband of 63 years, John L. Naze; two sons, Thomas F. Naze of Marlboro and Philip Naze of Hudson; a sister, Gertrude Adams of Hudson; four grandchildren; four great - grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Marlboro, daughter of Louis and Mabel Roberts, and graduated from Hudson High School in 1936.

Mrs. Naze was a clerk at the F.W. Woolworth department stores in Marlboro and Maynard. She was a member of St. Michael Church and the Hudson Senior Citizens.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 11, from Tighe - Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 21 Manning St. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 10, in the funeral home.

A. Bertha Nelson, 85

MILLBURY - A. Bertha (Wagner) Nelson, 85, formerly of 181 Main St., died Tuesday, May 28, in Providence House Nursing Home after a long illness.

Her husband of 59 years, Thomas Nelson, died in 1998. She leaves a son, Thomas A. Nelson of Jonesboro, Ark.; two grandchildren, Craig T. Nelson of Jonesboro and Amy L. Carter of Benton, Ark.; a great - granddaughter. She was born in Sutton, daughter of Albert E. and Anna N. (Stratford) Wagner, and moved to Millbury in 1940.

Mrs. Nelson worked at Buck Brothers toolmakers for five years, retiring in 1975. She previously worked 10 years at Helen's Bakery in Worcester.

The private graveside service was held Thursday, June 6, in Central Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Activities Fund, Providence House Nursing Home, 29 Main St., Millbury, MA 01527. Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main St., directed arrangements.

Joseph R. Pevay, 69
Friday, June 14, 2002

SPRINGFIELD - Joseph R. Pevay, 69, of Springfield, died Wednesday, June 5, at home.

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Mary - Jane C. (Richardson) Pevay; a son; two daughters, including Judith D. Kimble of Dudley; five grandchildren.

He was a district manager 25 years for the service division of Chrysler Motors Corp., retiring in 1991.

He was a member of the Connecticut Valley Regional & Antique Auto Club.

The funeral was held earlier in the week. Burial was at Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Donations may be made to Hospice of Western New England, 50 Maple St., Springfield, MA 01104. Sampson's Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield, directed arrangements.

Roy W. Schlegel, 74

PITTSFIELD - Roy W. Schlegel, 74, of 277 Bradford St., formerly of Worcester, a World War II veteran, died May 26 in Kimball Farms, Lenox.

He leaves three sons, Jeffrey and Frank Schlegel, both of Florida, and David Schlegel of Worcester; a daughter, Lonna Alicea of Worcester County; and four brothers, Charles Schlegel of Long Island, N.Y., Herman Schlegel of Worcester, Elton Schlegel of Paxton and Hugo Schlegel of Lenoxdale. He was born in Worcester, son of Joseph and Alodia (Williams) Schlegel, and moved to Pittsfield in 1992. He attended Worcester schools and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Schlegel was a truck driver for Worcester Sand and Gravel for many years.

The memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15, in Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main St., Worcester. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Cathy L. Sullivan, 47

THOMPSON - Cathy L. (Bourbeau) Sullivan, 47, of 42 Towns Lane, died Friday, June 7, at home after an illness.

She leaves her husband, Joseph A. Sullivan; two sons, Scott Guertin of Plainfield and Kyle Jackson of Thompson; her father, Roland Bourbeau Sr. of Thompson; a brother, Roland Bourbeau Jr. of Thompson; a sister, Lisa Basley - Withers of Woodstock; three nephews and a niece. She was born in Putnam, daughter of the late Florence (Shippee) Bourbeau, and lived 15 years in Thompson.

She rescued and placed more than 200 kittens and was a well - known local animal activist.

The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, in Munyan Cemetery, Putnam. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or Whiskers Animal Shelter, 342 Lathrop Road, Plainfield, CT 06374. Shaw - Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St., Webster, is directing arrangements.

Hugo E. Mazzini, 87

MILFORD - Hugo E. Mazzini, 87, of 9 Prentice Ave., a World War II veteran and a retired landscaping department supervisor, died Thursday, June 6, in Milford - Whitinsville Regional Hospital.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Jean (DeMatteis) Mazzini; a son, Joseph H. Mazzini of Milford; two daughters, Louise J. Conner and Julie A. Duridas, both of Milford; a brother, Peter Mazzini of Milford; two sisters, Lena Oliveri and Florence Cyr, both of Hopedale; nine grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren. He was born in Milford, son of Guiseppe and Emma (Rossi) Mazzini, and was educated in Milford schools. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe.

Mr. Mazzini was a supervisor in the landscaping department of Framingham State College, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Milford Italian Veterans and Frascotti Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1544.

The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, from Consigli - Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., with a Mass at 12:30 p.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main St. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 9, in the funeral home.

Louise M. Andrews, 64
Monday, June 17, 2002

SPENCER - Louise M. (Aquino) Andrews, 64, of Spencer, died Saturday, June 15, in a horseback riding accident in Barre.

Her husband, Duncan R. Andrews, died last year. She leaves a daughter, Lynn Snelling of Spencer; a son, Gregg Andrews of Spencer; four grandchildren; two brothers, John Aquino of West Nyack, N.Y., and Philip Aquino of Dracut; two sisters, Judy Blais of Worcester and Barbara White of Virginia; nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John and Amelia Aquino. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1955, and lived in Worcester many years before moving to Spencer in 1956.

Mrs. Andrews worked for Guaranty Bank and its successors for many years. She also worked for the Worcester County 4 - H Center Camp Marshall, and was a longtime 4 - H volunteer, serving as treasurer of the 4 - H Fair and 4 - H Camp. She was a member of the 4 - H Center Committee, the founder of Camp Marshall Horse Association and was a volunteer at Knox Trail Jr. High School Library. She was a member of Cross State Trail Riders Association, serving as its treasurer for many years. She was a member of First Congregational Church, and she enjoyed rug hooking.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 20, in First Congregational Church, 205 Main St. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, in Pillsbury Funeral Home, Main Street. Donations may be made to First Congregational Church Scholarship Fund, PO Box 187, Spencer, MA 01535.
