John A. Vanderpoel Jr.

CONCORD - John A. Vanderpoel Jr., 57, of Crescent Road, Worcester Telegram & Gazette facilities supervisor and Vietnam War veteran, died Saturday, June 8, in Acton.
He leaves his parents, John A. and Joan (Waterhouse) Vanderpoel of Concord; a daughter, Ellen K. Vanderpoel of Acton; a son, Aaron W. Vanderpoel of Acton; his children's mother, Lynn A. (Rawson) Vanderpoel of Acton; a brother, Eric Vanderpoel of Alexandria, Va.; and nephews. He was born in Torrington, Conn. He graduated from The Fenn School and Concord - Carlisle High School, and attended New England College in Henniker, N.H. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, and the only soldier in his company who was promoted to private first class before graduating from boot camp. He later graduated from East Coast Aerotechnical School in Bedford.
Mr. Vanderpoel worked many years in aviation before switching to industry. He was the former maintenance manager at Beacon Press in Acton, and most recently was the facilities supervisor for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. He enjoyed the outdoors and nature, especially walking in New England, Canada, and most recently, Scotland.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, in the chapel of Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm St. Private interment will be held at a later date in Litchfield, Conn. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massachusetts Audubon Society, South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773. MacRae Tunnicliffe Funeral Home, 74 Belknap St., is directing arrangements.
S. Virginia Virostek, 92

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. - S. Virginia (Green) Virostek, 92, of Beckwith Road, formerly of Douglas, Mass., died Saturday, June 1, in Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, after a brief illness.
Her husband, John Virostek, predeceased her. She leaves a daughter, Susan Virostek, with whom she lived the past nine years; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Victoria Breck, with whom she lived, as well. She was born in Lynn, Mass., daughter of William H. and Mary E. Green, and graduated from Burdett College.
While in Douglas, Mrs. Virostek was a correspondent for the Telegram & Gazette. She was later a secretary in Newton, Mass., Burlington, Vt., and Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed history, music, traveling, nature and animals. She was also a fan of baseball.
The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Route 81. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to World Wildlife Fund, 1250 24th St., N.W., PO Box 97180, Washington, DC 20090 - 7180.
Albert Volinsky, 76

EXETER, N.H. - Albert Volinsky, 76, of Exeter, a World War II veteran and a retired engineer, died Sunday, June 2, at home.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Anne B. (Picker) Volinsky; a daughter, Cynthia Graber of Holden, Mass.; two sons; a brother; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A sister predeceased him. He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and lived 35 years in Plainview, N.Y., before moving to Exeter in 1993. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He received an industrial engineering degree from Syracuse University.
Mr. Volinsky was an engineer in the New York City area for 40 years.
The funeral service was held in Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road. Burial was in New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen. Memorial donations may be made to Exeter Hospital, 10 Buzzell Ave.; or to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, both Exeter, NH 03833.
Alvin W. Wilbur, 88

DOUGLAS - Alvin W. Wilbur, 88, formerly of Grove Street, died Monday, June 10, in SunBridge of Millbury after an illness.
His wife, Marjorie (Potter) Wilbur, died in 1998. He leaves two sisters, Ruby Czternastek of Beverly and Clara P. Benson of Douglas; nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Ernest and Clyde Wilbur; and two sisters, Mavorette Davidson and Myrtle Bickford, predeceased him. He was born in Marlboro, son of Walter M. and Maria (Worden) Wilbur, and had lived in Douglas, Stow and Hudson.
Mr. Wilbur was a self - employed roofer, and did siding for many years in the Hudson area. He was a member of Marlboro Baptist Church and the Federated Church in Hudson. He enjoyed the clarinet.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, in Maplewood Cemetery, Pleasant St., Marlboro. There are no calling hours. Denise A. Wilson - Bennett, 49

WORCESTER - Denise A. Wilson - Bennett, 49, of 59 Evelyn St., UMass Memorial Medical Center employee, died Monday, June 3, in University Commons after a battle with cancer.
She leaves her husband, Austin Bennett; a daughter, Felicia R. Evans of Lithonia, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Sheena Bennett of Worcester; three brothers, Richard W. Wilson of Framingham, George M. Wilson III of Long Beach, Calif., and Glenn O. Wilson of Leicester; three sisters, Paula A. Wilson of Springfield, Valerie Wilson - Tatum and Susan Wilson, both of Worcester; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of George M. and Barbara V. (Ward) Wilson, and lived most of her life in Worcester, having lived also in Atlanta and Los Angeles. She attended school in Leicester and Quinsigamond Community College.
Mrs. Wilson - Bennett worked more than 20 years in the collections department of UMass Memorial Medical Center. She was a former member of All Saints Church; a member of the Episcopal Youth Conference; an active tribal member of the Nipmuck Nation; and a founder of the Local Network of Black Women. She enjoyed cheerleading, traveling and reading.
The funeral service will be held at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in Graham, Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St. Burial will be private. Calling hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity.
George M. Abodeely Sr., 90

WORCESTER - George M. Abodeely Sr., 90, of Brookshire Road, retired owner of an insurance agency and a World War II veteran, died Tuesday, June 4, in Southgate of Shrewsbury.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Sally A. (Aramony) Abodeely; two sons, George M. Abodeely Jr. of Worcester and William J. Abodeely of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Elaine M. Saliba of Shrewsbury; a sister, Adele K. Nassar of Springfield; six grandchildren. Three brothers, Michael N. and Assad Abodeely, and Dr. Robert A. Abodeely, and two sisters, Mabel Peters and Vina Dowd, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Nassif and Mary (Koury) Abodeely, and graduated from Commerce High School in 1930, where he was a standout athlete. He graduated from Boston University, where he captained the football team in 1934. In 1940, he served as a backfield coach for the Brown University football team. He served in the Navy during World War II.
He founded G.M. Abodeely Insurance Agency Inc. in 1940, and retired in 1985.
He was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral, and was a member of its board of directors for several years. He was also a member of its men's club, the Order of St. Ignatius, and the Syrian Brotherhood Orthodox Society. He was a member of the Boston University Lodge of Masons, and was a member of Aletheia Grotto. He was a commissioner of the former City Hospital, and served as a scout for Boston University for several years.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, in the cathedral. A Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 6, in the cathedral. ASHBY - Donald M. Ayotte Jr., 29, of 230 County Road, died Sunday, June 9, at home.
He leaves his wife of eight years, Heather M. (Carignan) Ayotte; two sons, Brandon W. and Christopher D. Ayotte, both of Ashby; a daughter, Courtney N. Ayotte of Ashby; a brother, Michael Ayotte of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Donna Cox of Appling, Ga., and Georgianna Losh of Ashburnham; his father, Donald M. Ayotte Sr. of Tennessee; his mother, Lucille P. (McKinon) Ayotte of Fitchburg; his paternal grandmother, Priscilla (Creighton) Ayotte of Townsend; several nieces and nephews. He was born in Nashua, N.H., and lived in Ashby most of his life. He graduated in 1992 from Montachusett Regional Vocational School, where he played football.
Mr. Ayotte owned D.M.A. Drywall Co. for the past six years. He enjoyed cooking, fishing and water skiing.

GARDNER - Jack H. Bazydlo, 57, of 116 Lovewell St., died Monday, June 10, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester, after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 35 years, Patricia A. (Gaulzetti) Bazydlo; a son, Todd H. Bazydlo of Taunton; a daughter, Julie L. Bazydlo of Gardner; and a grandson. He was born in Gardner, son of Thaddeus H. and Aldie Z. (Weialis) Bazydlo. He graduated from Gardner High School, where he was a member of the reunion committee. He graduated from the Massachusetts Radio School of Boston in 1964.
Mr. Bazydlo was an Electronics Technician for M.I.T. Lincoln Labs in Lexington for 36 years. He was a member of the Polish American Citizens Club, the Lithuanian Outing Association, the Wildcat Gridiron Booster Club and the Mount Wachusett Community College Fitness Center. He coached minor and little league baseball and recreational basketball.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, in Lamoureux - Fletcher Community Funeral Home, 105 Central St. (www.fletcherfuneralhomes.com). DOUGLAS - Imelda (Bourque) LaBonne Bousquet, 90, formerly of Main Street, Manchaug, died Thursday, June 6, in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Nursing in Northbridge after an illness.
Her husband of 29 years, Theodore H. Bousquet, died in 1999. She leaves a son, Henry W. LaBonne Sr. of Douglas; two daughters, Vivian Sullins of Allston and Carol Ann Vacey of Moriches, N.Y.; a brother, George Bourque of Woonsocket, R.I.; four sisters, Rita Gregoire and Grace "Kitty" Gould, both of Cumberland, R.I., Gabrielle Dolinski of Woonsocket and Frances Benetti of Smithfield, R.I.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great - grandchildren; Her first husband, Henry R. LaBonne, died in 1962. A granddaughter predeceased her. She was born in Canada, daughter of George and Dolores (Desjarlais) Bourque, and moved to Woonsocket in 1906. She lived most of her life in Manchaug and Douglas.
Mrs. Bousquet was a seamstress 20 years at the former Hayward Schuster Woolen Co., retiring in 1979.
She was a member of St. Anne's Church in Manchaug and St. Denis Church, and was a member of their St. Anne's societies.
The funeral will be held Monday, June 10, from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Denis Church, Manchaug Road. Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 9, in the funeral home.

ASHBURNHAM - Joan E. (Connor) Caisse, 49, of 22 Page Ave., died Sunday, June 9, in Heywood Hospital in Gardner after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 23 years, Clifford P. Caisse Sr.; three sons, Ryan P., John E. and Evan M. Caisse, all of Ashburnham; three stepsons, Clifford P. Caisse Jr. of South Lancaster, Ohio, Philip D. Caisse of Westminster and James A. Caisse of Gardner; two stepdaughters, Cindy M. Kennedy of Phillipston and Tammy A. Caisse of Gardner; a sister, Barbara C. Despres of Ashby; eight grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Edwin F. and Evelyn (Rackliff) Connor, and moved to Ashburnham in 1979. She graduated from Ashby High School in 1970, in the school's last graduating class. She then graduated from Framingham Union School in 1973.
Mrs. Caisse was a registered nurse for 29 years, having worked at the former Gardner State Hospital, Worcester State Hospital and the former Burbank Hospital, before retiring because of illness. She enjoyed knitting.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A calling hour is 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, in Lavery - Chartrand Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg. WORCESTER - Stanley J. Chronis, of 12 Venus Drive, a World War II veteran and accountant, died Thursday, June 13, in the Meadows of Leicester.
He leaves his wife, Paula Y. (Pappas) Chronis; a son, Thomas T. Chronis of Pittsford, N.Y.; two daughters, Jean Chronis - Kuhn of Shrewsbury and Vicky E. Lalos of Worcester; a sister, Christine Thornell of San Antonio; nine grandchildren; and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Samuel and Pauline (Blair) Chronis. He graduated from Commerce High School, the University of Connecticut, and attended Boston University and Clark University. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Mr. Chronis was director of accounts for the Worcester Public Schools for many years, retiring in 1989. Previously, he had worked in the accounting department of the Department of Public Works, and was chief accountant for the former Worcester City Hospital and for the Internal Revenue Service. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
