EDEN, N.Y. - William R. Holopainen, 43, of 8558 North Main St., formerly of Hubbardston, Mass., died Sunday, May 26, in Orchard Park, N.Y., of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.
He leaves his mother, Helen V. (Ojala) Holopainen of Holden, Mass.; a brother, Thomas A. Holopainen of Hubbardston; a sister, Nancy Hogerheide of Wendell; a nephew and nieces. Two brothers, David and John Holopainen, predeceased him.
He was born in Holden, son of the late Weikko Holopainen, and had lived in the Buffalo, N.Y., area for many years. He graduated in 1976 from Quabbin Regional High School and in 1978 from the State University of New York in Alfred, N.Y.
Mr. Holopainen was a self-employed, independent trucker.
The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, in Loomis, Offers and Loomis Funeral Home, 207 Main St., Hamburg, N.Y. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 2, in Brookside Cemetery, Hubbardston. LONG BEACH, Calif. - Diane L. (Martel) Horowitz, 66, of 3466 Fela Ave., formerly of Gardner, Mass., died Monday, May 27, at home after a long illness.
Her husband of 24 years, Dr. Paul Horowitz, died in 1996. She leaves a daughter, Loretta Horowitz of Long Beach; two stepdaughters, Karen Horowitz of Long Beach and Adrienne Kittis of Alexandria, Va.; three brothers, Gerard R. Martel of Fitchburg, Mass., Dr. Charles E. Martel of Gardner and Rene G. Martel of Austerlitz, N.Y.; nieces and nephews. She was born in Gardner, daughter of Dr. Roland O. and Loretta N. (Barthel) Martel. She graduated in 1953 from Gardner High School, in 1957 from the College of New Rochelle, N.Y., and in 1958 from Boston University.
Mrs. Horowitz was a professor of medieval art history in California State University at Long Beach for 30 years, retiring in 1998.
Calling hours are 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 6, in Boucher Funeral Home, 110 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner. Donations may be made to the Roland O. Martel II Scholarship Fund, 117 Central St., Gardner, MA 01440.

WORCESTER - Margaret J. (Hoyen) Hoyen, 89, of Worcester, died Sunday, June 2, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus.
Her husband of 55 years, Paul T. Hoyen, died in 1996. She leaves two daughters, Joyce A. Thienel and Paula E. Butler, both of Worcester; and a grandson, Eric A. Butler of Worcester. Two brothers, Frances E. and Nimrod Hoyen, and a sister, Marion Charlesworth, predeceased her. She was born in Lowell, daughter of Emmanuel and Elizabeth (Donabed) Hoyen, and lived more than 80 years in Worcester. She graduated from Commerce High School.
Mrs. Hoyen was a salesperson for 20 years in the fine handbags department at Denhom and McKay Co. She was a member of St. Mary's Assyrian Orthodox Church, Shrewsbury.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, in Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. MARGATE, Fla. - Benjamin Katz, 89, of 3060 Holiday Springs Blvd., formerly of Worcester, died Thursday, May 23, at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Gertrude (Schwartzberg) Katz; two brothers, Michael Katz of Margate and Louis Katz of Baltimore; two sisters, Sarah Pulda and Ethel Abramoff, both of Worcester; nieces and nephews. A son, Henry Katz, died in 1963. Four brothers, Philip, Harry, Israel and Martin Katz; and a sister, Gertrude Chaifitz, predeceased him. He was born in Nashua, N.H., son of Morris and Fannie (Gilbert) Katz, and had lived in Worcester 65 years, moving to Margate 20 years ago.
Mr. Katz was a liquor salesman for Worcester Liquor Co. for many years, retiring 25 years ago.
Funeral services and burial were held in Star of David Cemetery. Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St., directed arrangements.
Charles J. Krasnecky

HARDWICK - Charles J. Krasnecky, 94, of 295 North Road, died Saturday, June 1, at home.
He leaves three daughters, Ann Welch and Cheryl Noel, both of Hardwick, and Nancy Moreau of Millbury; a stepson, Charles Holbrook of Barre; two stepdaughters, Robin Coutsonkias of New York and Lisa Parth of Worcester; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was born in Hardwick, son of Charles and Annie (Blochefski) Krasnecky.
Mr. Krasnecky was a daily farmer, and operated Kras Farms. He was a former town animal inspector, dog officer and meat inspector. He was a member of St. Aloysius Church. He received an award from the Paige Agricultural Fund for 50 years of service.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6, from Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., Ware, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church, Gilbertville. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Gilbertville. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, in the funeral home. PUTNAM - Lorenzo A. "Larry" LaBonte, 83, of Putnam, formerly of Little River Acres, a World War II veteran and a retired business co-owner, died Saturday, June 1, in Day Kimball Hospital after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth (Chenail) LaBonte; a son, Richard LaBonte of Endwell, N.J.; a daughter, Madeline LePire of Putnam; two brothers, Norman LaBonte of Milford and Eugene LaBonte of Putnam; a sister, Arlene Deasey of the Danielson section of Killingly; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Two sister, Reina Wentworth and Doris Gucwa, predeceased him. He was born in Putnam, son of Ovila and Bella (Benoit) LaBonte, and graduated from Putnam High School in 1936. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. LaBonte co-owned LaBonte and Mercik Appliance Co., retiring in 1993. He was a life member of Albert J. Breault Post 1523 Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Mary Church. He was a fourth degree member of Cargill Council 64, Knights of Columbus.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. LEICESTER - Gerald P. LeBoeuf Sr., 74, of 17 Charlton St., Rochdale, a World War II veteran and a retired patrolman, died Saturday, June 1, in the Meadows of Leicester.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Catherine L. (Morrison) LeBoeuf; two sons, William E. and Steven D. LeBoeuf, both of Rochdale; two daughters, Susan B. Placanico of Ocala, Fla., and Nancy Y. LaRose of Oklawaha, Fla.; three brothers, Richard LeBoeuf of Yalaha, Fla., Raymond LeBoeuf of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Emile Leboeuf of Clarksville, Tenn.; three sisters, Yvette Grenier of the North Grosvenordale section of Thompson, Jeanne Marchinczyk and Judith Bachand, both of Webster; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A son, Gerald P. LeBoeuf Jr., died in 1997. Two brothers, Paul and Louis LeBoeuf, and four sisters, Sister Marguerite LeBoeuf, Pauline LeBoeuf, Doris LaFleur and Lorraine Stawicki, all predeceased him. He was born in Webster, son of Rudolph and Florida (Blanchard) LeBoeuf, and lived here most of his life. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. LeBoeuf was a patrolman on the Leicester Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1983. He previously was an electrician at Cranston Printworks, Webster. He was a member of St. Aloysius-St. Jude Parish and Knights of Columbus Council 4528, where he was a past grand knight, former district deputy and longtime building and events manager. He was past faithful navigator of the John Cardinal Wright Assembly, Fourth Degree. He was a committee man more than 30 years for Boy Scout Troop 125; a member and past president of the Southern Massachusetts Police Association and the Senior Citizen Club of Leicester; a member of the Leicester Board of Health and Town Bylaw Committee; a town constable; a former member of the Town Hall Center School Commission; and a former Leicester Dog Officer. He enjoyed fixing lawn mowers, home repair and bowling.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 4, from Morrison-Morin Funeral Home, 1131 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius-St. Jude Church, 489 Pleasant St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. WORCESTER - Phyliss D. (Smith) Loasby, 83, of 256 Moreland St., formerly of South Lancaster and Leicester, died Friday, May 31, in the Hermitage Nursing Home after an illness.
Her husband of 43 years, John F. Loasby, died in 1992. She leaves a brother, C. Reginald Smith, Dudley; two sisters, Pete S. Connery of Leicester and Barbara H. Soper of Worcester, with whom she lived; and nephews and nieces. She was born in Clinton and raised in South Lancaster, daughter of Donald and Lena (Munn) Smith, and graduated from South Lancaster Academy and Atlantic Union College, both in Lancaster.
Mrs. Loasby worked for Eusey Press in Leominster, and later worked 42 years for Russell Manufacturing.
She was a skilled baker, and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a former church school teacher, and was also a deaconess.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2 Airport Road Drive. Burial will be in Eastwood Cemetery, Lancaster. There are no calling hours. WEBSTER - Genevieve S. (Ankiewicz) Magnant, 83, of 19 Pepka Drive, died Friday, May 31, in Hubbard Regional Hospital after an illness.
Her husband, Lester A. Magnant, died in 1984. She leaves two sons, Ronald A. Magnant of San Diego and Lester P. "Buddy" Magnant of Webster; two daughters, Dorothy M. Guillette of the North Grosvenordale section of Thompson and Marlene M. Girardin of Webster; two sisters, Josephine V. Geppert of Webster and Stephanie Mroczek of Dudley; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Three brothers and two sisters predeceased her. She was born in the Bondsville section of Palmer, daughter of John and Sophia (Zamora) Ankiewicz, and lived most of her life in Webster. She graduated from St. Louis High School and Becker Junior College, Worcester.
Mrs. Magnant was a member of St. Louis Church and enjoyed sewing.
The funeral will be held Monday, June 3, from Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street, with Mass at noon in St. Louis Church, 15 Lake St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. FITCHBURG - Nicholas J. Martines, 82, of 148 Reingold Ave., retired lathe operator and World War II veteran, died Friday, May 31, in HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital after an illness.
His wife of 31 years, Florence (Maynard) Martines, died in 1992. He leaves a son, Nicholas J. Martines Jr. of Framingham; three daughters, Sandra R. Mazzaferro of Leominster, Deborah A. and Toni L. Martines, both of Fitchburg; two sisters, Josephine Warren and Mary Martines, both of Fitchburg; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, Tony Martines, died in 1966. Another brother, Frank Martines, died Feb. 27. A sister, Rose L'Ecuyer, died in 1990. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Emanuel and Josephine (Cordio) Martines, and graduated in 1938 from Fitchburg High School, where he starred in football, basketball and track. He held the record for points in track until his daughter broke it in 1980. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a torpedoman.
Mr. Martines was a lathe operator for General Electric Turbine Co. for more than 36 years. After retiring, he was a consultant for the company. He was a member of Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church, General Electric 25 Year Club and General Electric Retirement Board. He was a member and former officer of St. Joseph's Club, Cleghorn, and a member of Grandview Country Club, Leominster.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 4, from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church, 118 Theresa St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 3, and 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the funeral home.
