Dr. Nicholas R. Bonofilio

WORCESTER -- Dr. Nicholas R. Bonofilio, 81, of 37 Ardmore Road, died Tuesday July 31st in his home after an illness. He leaves his wife of 50 years Regina (Milano) Bonofilio, his son James D. Bonofilio of Worcester, 2 daughters Catherine A. Hunter of Kensington, CA and Jean Marie Nabhan of Rye, NY, 2 sisters Mary DeNicola and Ann Genatossio both of Worcester, 6 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. A sister Carrie Lanava of Worcester died in 1988.

He was born in Worcester the son of Dominic and Angelina (Scola) Bonofilio. Dr. Bonofilio was a graduate of North High School, Clark University and Tufts Dental School. He had been a dentist for 51 years, his first office was located on Front Street, and for the last 35 years located on 548 Pleasant Street. He served as a Captain in the Air Force during the Korean War. Dr. Bonofilio had been past president of the Worcester District Dental Society, served on the Massachusetts Dental Examining Board, and as Dental Examiner for the Northeast Dental Examining Board.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Worcester Country Club, the Worcester Art Museum, the Bohemian’s, the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, Opera Worcester, Inc., Salisbury Lyric Opera. He also was a 32nd degree Mason, Level Lodge, Scottish Rites of Valley of Worcester, Aleppo Lodge of Shriner’s and Worcester County Shrine Club and Compagnons des Bons Vins. Dr. Bonofilio had been a member and one time past president of the Worcester Chapter of UNICO.

The funeral will be Friday August 3rd from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Please omit flowers and make contributions to Notre Dame Academy, 425 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.

Richard E. Daly

ORMOND BEACH, FL -- Richard E. Daly, 80 of 1203 N. Beach Street formally of 24 Falcon Street, Worcester died Tuesday July 31st in Ormond Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 18 years, Celeste E. Gagne. He also leaves 2 sons Donald Daly of Millbury and Timothy Daly of Worcester; 2 daughters Carolyn R. Daly of Yountville, CA and Mary E. O’Neil of Worcester; a brother John A. Daly of Worcester; 2 sisters Frances McPartland of Worcester and Judith West of Boylston; 6 grandchildren. Several nephews and nieces. A son Richard E. Daly, Jr. of Worcester predeceased him.

He was born in Leicester son of Joseph and Ethel (Reidy) Daly and lived in Worcester before moving to FL in 1983. Mr. Daly graduated from St. Peter’s High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College. He was an Army veteran of WWII and fought in Normandy on D-Day. Mr. Daly was appointed a Police Officer in 1947 and retired as a Lieutenant for the Worcester Police Deptartment after 35 years of service in 1982. He also worked for Russell Longwell Movers. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Korona, FL, the Worcester Police Relief, the Retired Worcester Police and Firefighter’s Association, and VFW Post 1590 in Daytona Beach, FL. He was a former member of Our Lady of the Angels Church in Worcester.

The funeral will be held Saturday August 4th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avennue with a mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be Friday August 3rd from 6:00 until 9:00 PM in the funeral home.

Anita R. (Kantakevich) Needham

WORCESTER -- Anita R. (Kantakevich) Needham, 81, died Monday July 23rd in the Hospice Residence, 10 Judith Road. Her husband of 23 years John P. Needham died in 1967. She leaves a son Gregg J. Needham of Worcester, 2 daughters Marianne Lapomardo of Sterling and Karen A. Shea of Worcester, four grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. A brother Joseph Kantakevich, and two sisters Veronica Armitage and Ruth Kantakevich all predeceased her.

She was born in Worcester the daughter of Impolitas and Rosalia (Zilonis) Kantakevich. She was a graduate of Commerce High School and Worcester School of Business Science. Mrs. Needham retired in 1987 from the Painter’s Local #48, where she had worked as a bookkeeper. She was a member of St. Casimir’s Church, an active volunteer with the former St. Casimir’s School, a member of the Lithuanian Women’s Social Club. St. Casimir’s Mothers Guild and the Lithuanian War Veterans Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and travel.

The funeral will be Thursday July 26th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a mass at 10:00 AM in St. Casimir’s Church, 41 Providence Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday July 25th are from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either: VNA Care Network, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01602, or to Talking Books Library, c/o Worcester Public Library, 160 Fremont Street, Worcester, MA 01603.

Cecilia M. (Montville) Houle

WORCESTER -- Cecilia M. (Montville) Houle, 96, formerly of 14 Knowles Road died Tuesday July 24th in Providence Extended Care Center. Her husband of 61 years Wilfred A. Houle died in 1989. She leaves a son Ronald A. Houle of Leicester; two daughters Phyllis R. Carrigan of Worcester and Anita M. Drumgoole of Falmouth; a sister Jean Daniel of Mississippi; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Two brothers Peter and Ernest Montville and a sister Ruby Higgins predeceased her.

She was born in Auburn the daughter of Peter and Olive (LaBarre) Montville and attended catholic boarding school in Saint Cezaire, Quebec. She lived most of her life in Worcester. Mrs. Houle taught ceramic classes in her own home for many years. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church.

The funeral will be Friday July 27th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a mass at 11:00 AM in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour in the funeral home will be Friday July 27th from 9:30 until 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Providence Extended Care Activity Fund, 119 Providence Street, Worcester, MA 0l604.

Martin B. Hall

WORCESTER -- Martin B. Hall, 83, of Bailey Road died Sunday July 22nd in Providence House of Millbury after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

He leaves his wife of 52 years Eleanor M. (Bean) Hall, a son, Martin J. Hall of Parker, CO; a daughter JoAnne M. Babin of Sutton; 2 brothers William Hall of Natick and John Hall of Montpelier, VT; 2 sisters Mary M. Hughes of Cady, TX and Virginia Snow of Natick; 5 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. A sister Josephine Hall of Natick predeceased her.

He was born in Natick son of William and Anne (MacDonald) Hall. He graduated from Natick High School and Bridgeton Academy and attended Boston University. He was a WWII veteran serving with the Marines. Mr. Hall was Chief of Security at Becker College for several years before retiring in 1987. Previously he was an Insurance Adjuster for Hartford A & I and American Mutual Insurance Companies. During WW II he served as a Massachusetts State Trooper. He was a member of Christ the King Church.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday July 25th in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Sreett. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 36 Cameron St., Cambridge, MA 02140-1102 or to the Providence House Nursing Home of Millbury, Activities Fund, 29 Main St., Millbury, MA 01527. O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue is handling the arrangements.

Leah Y. (Bouchard) Gearin

WORCESTER -- Leah Y. (Bouchard) Gearin, 66 of 35 Walter Street died Thursday July 26th at home after an illness. Her husband, Daniel G. Gearin died in 1978. She leaves a son Shawn M. Gearin of Mattapoisett; 3 daughters Colleen Boulette of Paxton, Catherine Phelan of Whitinsville and Kelly Gearin of E. Boston; 3 brothers Henry Bouchard of Riverside, CA, Paul Bouchard of Baker, OR, and Eugene Bouchard of Leicester; a sister Claire DiCesare of Holden; 9 grandchildren and nephews and nieces.

She was born in Ware daughter of Ulric J. and Leah Y. (Fontaine) Bouchard and has lived in Worcester many years. Mrs. Gearin worked in the Customer Service Department for New England Telephone Company for many years retiring in 1991. She was a member of Christ the King Church and a volunteer at Pleasant Valley Country Club. She was an avid gardener.

The funeral will be held Monday July 30th at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday July 29th from 2:00 until 5:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160

Lauralee Stevenson, 44

WORCESTER -- Lauralee (Sheehan) Stevenson, 44, of 9 Kosta St., died Sunday, March 17, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center. Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury, is directing funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.

Marion Yeaw

SHREWSBURY -- Marion (Austin) Yeaw, of 311 Main St., died Tuesday, March 19, at home, after an illness.

Her husband of 51 years, Gardner M. Yeaw, died in 1975. She leaves three sons, Wayne M. Yeaw of Mountainaire, N.M., Dennis G. Yeaw of Shrewsbury and Walter H. Yeaw of Battle Ground, Wash.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Irene Johnson and Mabel Brown, predeceased her. She was born in Warwick, R.I., daughter of Walter and Lilla (Straight) Austin, and recently moved to Shrewsbury. She graduated from Warwick High School, and had perfect attendance for all 12 years of school.

Mrs. Yeaw was a function coordinator for Evelyn's Restaurant in West Warwick, retiring in 1997. Before that, she was a secretary and office manager for many years. She was an accomplished violinist, and played for Fosche's Orchestra in Rhode Island. She was a past president of the 50/51/30 Club of the Fiskville Baptist Church, in Fiskville, R.I.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23 in Phoenix Baptist Church, 2 Fairview Ave., West Warwick. Burial will be private in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Calling hours are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Phoenix Baptist Church, 2 Fairview Ave., West Warwick, RI 02893; or to UMass Memorial Home Health and Hospice, 43 Harvard St., Worcester, MA 01609. Britton-Shrewsbury, 648 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Phyllis A. Zona, 76
Sunday, March 24, 2002

SHREWSBURY -- Phyllis A. (Hegvig) Zona, 76, of 16 Naples St., died Saturday, March 23, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 54 years, John L. Zona; two sons, John W. Zona of North Brookfield and William H. Zona of Shrewsbury; three daughters, Donna M. Towner of Shrewsbury, and Ruth E. Nordstrom and Gretchen E. Grogan, both of Worcester; two sisters, Virginia M. Hegvig of York Beach, Maine, and Gretchen Jolicoeur of Shrewsbury; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A sister, Jacqueline Frye, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of William O. and Ruth E. (Parker) Hegvig, and graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and from The Commonwealth Center for Practical Nurse Education in Boylston. She lived in Worcester most of her life, before moving to Shrewsbury in 1997.

Mrs. Zona was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Worcester State Hospital, retiring in 1980. She then worked for Beechaven Nursing Home for seven years.

She was also a professional registered parliamentarian, and a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians. She was past president of George Demeter Unit. She was past president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary District II, a member of the military order of Cooties, Auxiliary; the Past Presidents Club of the West Boylston Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 6907. She also was amember of the national and Massachusetts Button Society, East Side Post 201 Auxiliary, and its Auxiliary Past Presidents Club, and Past President Parley. She enjoyed oil painting and crafts.

She was a member of St. Anne's Church, and was active in its Christian Word Ministry. She was a 45-year member of the Montachusett Girl Scout Council. She was a Girl Scout Leader at St. Bernard's Church.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, March 26, from Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel(www.mercadantefuneral.com), 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 120 Boston Turnpike Road. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 25, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Girl Scouts of America, 81 Gold Star Blvd., Worcester, MA 01605.

Paul J. Blavackas, 55

BARRE -- Paul J. Blavackas, 55, of 518 Vernon Ave., a plumber and a veteran of the Vietnam War, died Monday, April 1, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 31 years, Ilona E. (Tucker) Blavackas; a son, William E. Blavackas of South Barre; a daughter, Paula M. Blavackas of South Barre; a sister, Patricia A. Poswiatoski of Southbridge; three grandchildren, Morgan, Tiegan and Aidan Blavackas, with whom he lived; a niece and two nephews. A son, Richard Blavackas, died in 1974. He was born in Worcester, son of John V. and Jennie A. (Jakubauskas) Blavackas, and was raised in Paxton. He lived 30 years in Holden before moving to Barre two years ago. He graduated from Wachusett Regional High School, Holden, in 1965. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Blavackas was a self-employed plumber and pipe fitter for more than 30 years. He was a former member of American Legion Post 306 in Paxton.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden (www.milesfuneralhome.com). Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
