Barrios
Clarence “C.J.” Barrios Jr., a native of Des Allemands and resident of Picayune, Miss., passed away on June 25. He was 55 years old.
He is survived by his sons, Perry Joseph and Ross Barrios, daughters Sarah Barrios Mohon, Emily Barrios Rosales and Emily Barrios Frischhertz, sisters Arlene Hymel, Charlene Clay and Evelyn Barrios and granchildren Joshua, Joel, Brooke, Megan, Quinten and Rayna. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Barrios Sr. and Emily Comardelle Barrios.
Religious services were held on June 29 at Des Allemands Mennonite Church.
Champagne
Stanley “Bot” J. Champagne, a native and resident of Luling, passed away on June 14. He was 88 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia Zeringue Champagne, daughters Barbara Mason, Lydia Champagne and Nedra Weaver, brother Lucien Champagne, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Landry and Lydia Troxler Champagne, daughter Rylma Champagne, brother Earl Champagne, and sisters Inez Mosley, Lillian Bosco and Verna Taranto.
An Air Force Staff Sergeant and World War II veteran, Mr. Champagne was a member of the American Legion for 50 years and a 22-year employee of Kaiser Aluminum.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on June 17 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling, followed by burial at St. Charles Cemetery.
Cortez
Gloria T. Cortez, a native and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on June 17. She was 66 years old.
She is survived by her husband, Justilien Cortez Sr., sons Justilien Jr. and John Cortez, daughters Joanne Newchurch, Louise Sassin, Sandra Dempster and Glenda Delcambre, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Marie Louise Tregle Folse and brother Clyde Folse Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on June 19 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands, followed by burial at St. Gertrude Cemetery.
Deroche
Lawrence “L.J.” Joseph Deroche Sr., a native and resident of Hahnville, passed away on June 24. He was 35 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Stacie Perkins Deroche, parents Lawrence F. Deroche Jr. and Libbie Deroche, son Lawrence Joseph Deroche Jr., daughter Kaitlyn Deroche and brothers Michael and Brian Deroche.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on June 29 at Holy Rosary Catholich Church in Hahnville.
Dufrene
Elizabeth Rosemary Dufrene, a native of Gheens and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on June 6. She was 84 years old.
She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Hebert and Marion Johnson, brother Alfred Dufrene, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell S. Dufrene, parents Wilson and Razie Adams Dufrene, son Ranzel Dufrene, daughter Nina B. Dufrene, brothers Sylvest, Evest, Johnny, Paul, Robert, Albert and Annais “Shorty” Dufrene, sister Philomene Savoie, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Religious services were held on June 8 at First Assembly of God Church in Des Allemands, followed by burial at Rogers-Matherne Cemetery in Bayou Blue.
Eusea
Daniel A. Eusea, a native and resident of Luling, passed away on June 8. He was 79 years old.
He is survived by his sons, Danny, Ernie and Brad Eusea, daughter Deborah Eusea, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dora P. Eusea, and his parents, Oran and Octavie Loupe Eusea.
Graveside services were held on June 10 at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Taft.
Ford
Patrick T. Ford, Sr., a resident of Luling and native of Boutte, passed away on June 19. He was 88 years old.
He is survived by his sons, Warren Ford, Patrick Ford Jr., James Ford, Michael Ford and John Ford, by daughters Patricia Faucheux, Romona Eusea, Beryl Trepina and Diane North, sisters Rosie Nunez, Edith Forest and Anna Thibodaux, 19 grandchildren 25 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Breaux Ford, parents James and Henrietta Toups Ford, brothers Henry, Willie, Peter and Joseph Ford, sisters Martha Roberts, Mary Champagne and Susie Champagne and four grandchildren.
A member of the U.S. Armed services and parishoner at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Mr. Ford was a retired maintenance supervisor for St. Charles Parish.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on June 22 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling, followed by burial at St. Charles Cemetery.
Gaubert
Marie Champagne Gaubert of Luling passed away on June 24 at 11:14 p.m. She was 72 years old.
Beloved wife of the late Sylvester J. “S.J.” Gaubert, she is survived by her daughters Valerie Dean and husband Herbert, Stacie Brown and husband Marvin, Cheryl Berthelot and husband Neal, Sandra Miguez and husband Duane, sons Rodney, Waide and wife Angela, Aaron and wife Edith, grandchildren Jason and Teresa Dean, Ryan, Melissa and Lynzie Brown, Brad, Dale and Trey Berthelot, Tanner and Cade Miguez, Krystal and Derek Gaubert, Christian Gaubert and step-grandson Marc Grohling of Germany, sisters Lucille Gaubert and Doris Bolding, brothers Herbert, Willie, Louis, Earline, Edward and Andrew.
She is preceded in death by her son, Ronald Gaubert, brother Oscar, sister Shirley Champagne, half-brother Frederick Champagne and parents Valerie Richard and Elphege Pierre Champagne.
A Funeral Mass was held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Luling on June 30, followed by burial at St. Charles Cemetery.
Guillory Numnum
Sandra Guillory Numnum, a resident of Luling, passed away on June 5 at 9:57 p.m. Beloved wife of Max T. Parker III, beloved mother of Joseph A. Bourgeois and Dana Zeller; mother-in-law of Mona Bourgeois and Ronald Zeller; sister of Errol Guillory, Jerry Ducey and the late Diane Smetucl; daughter of the late Nolan Guillory and Maria Waddell; grandmother of Paul Champagne, Jr. She was employed by the Luling Living Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on June 9 at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home in Marrero, followed by burial at St. Charles Cemetery in Luling.
Harmon
Betty Hays Harmon passed away on June 24 at 8:45 a.m. She is preceded in death by her husband, John T. Harmons Jr., sisters Tille McLain and Nan Hourigan and parents Pryor Sherman “Pete” Hays and Edna Myers Hays. She is survived by her sons, John Harmon and wife Annie, Pete Harmon and wife Joann and Mark Harmon and Wife Aleta, sisters Geneva Sansbury and Ethel “Pryorsie” Hamilton, grandchildren Tommy, Matthew and Michael Harmon, Jennifer Gros, Heather Hamilton, Tiffany, Hays, Stacy and Val Harmon, and six great-grandchildren. A native of Lebanon, KY and resident of Luling, she was 72 years old. She was owner of Thrift and Curio of Boutte and a retired employee of Rousell’s Antiques of Boutte and former employee of the St. Charles Library in Hahnville.
Services were held on June 26 at Samart Funeral Home in Raceland, followed by interment in St. Charles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Parkinson’s disease research.
Hutchins
Camille B. Hutchins, a native of Paradis and resident of Lufkin, Texas, passed away on June 20. She was 70 years old.
Mrs. Hutchins was the daughter of the late Frank Claude and Nita Mestayer Bertrand. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, she is survived by her son, Michael Hutchins of Lufkin, sons and daughters-in-law Scott and Debbie Hutchins of Coppell, Texas and Gary and Linda Hutchins of Denver, Colo., grandchildren Parker and Kacey Hutchins, Logan Hutchins and Austin Lamb, brother and sister-in-law Leroy and Cathy Bertrand of Port Arthur, Texas, and sister and brother-in-law Cecile and Thomas Cheramie of Paradis. She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Hutchins, and her daughter, Cherié Hutchins Lamb.
Funeral services were held on June 23 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lufkin.
Kugler
William Nelson Kugler, age 80, of League City, Texas passed away on June 1 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis disease. He was a former resident of Norco. He is preceded in death by his parents William Nelson Kugler, Sr. and Anna LeBlanc Kugler, sister Dorothy K. Babin, and daughter Anna C. Kugler.
survived by his loving wife of 58 years Margaret Bruce Kugler, daughter Susan Kugler Zimmerman and husband Pat, sons William Lestor Kugler and wife Kathy and James DeWayne Kugler, grandchildren, Kimberly Kugler Wright and husband Dewayne, Charles Kugler, Patrick, Ryan, and Kate Zimmerman, great grandchildren, Nicholas, Lucky, and Heaven Wright, sister Shirley K. Granier, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and neighbors.
A funeral service was held on June 4 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in League City.
Mongrue
Milton Mongrue, a retired rancher, died on June 23 at Oschner Hospital. He was 88 years old.
A native and resident of Luling, he was a retired Navy veteran of World War II and a past deputy of St. Charles Parish. He is survived by his wife, Earline Roux Mongrue, sons Courtney and Wade, daughters Connie Mars and Wanda St. Martin, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, sisters Muriel Pumphrey and Cleo Higgins and brother Roland Mongrue. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Grace Duhe and Myrtle Mongrue.
A Memorial Mass was held on June 25 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Luling.
Rochelle
Nolan Norbert Rochelle Sr. died on June 21. He was retired from Shell Oil in Norco as an operations foreman. Nolan was a graduate of Catholic High School in Donaldsonville, attended Southeastern University and joined Shell in 1952. He was the son of the late George and Linda Rochelle of Good Hope. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Jackson Rochelle, and daughter Mary Carol. He is survived by his beloved wife Josie Weimer-Rochelle, sons Nolan N. Rochelle Jr., Ponnie Rochelle and Jeffrey Rochelle, daughters Rose Naquin, Bonnie Check, Joe Martin, Jill Simon and Lynnie Waguespack, stepdaughters Terry Acosta and Monica McCune, brothers Wendell Rochelle and Bruce Rochelle, sisters Norma Jobert, Linda Melancon and Marion Rochelle, 19 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Norco on June 25.
Scott
Marie Halbrook Scott, a homemaker and real estate agent, died Wednesday at the River Parishes Hospital, in Laplace. She was 86.
Mrs. Scott was born in Calhoun, La. and had lived in Luling, La. for the past several years. She is survived by a loving family of two sons, William Michael Halbrook and wife Teri of Shreveport, and John Halbrook and wife Sandra of Luling. She leaves a loving host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Graveyard services were held on June 26 at Carter Cemetery on Collinston Road in Bastrop.
Spice
Florence Robinson Spice, a resident of Destrehan, passed away on June 6. She was 91 years old.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on June 9 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan. Entombment was at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum.
Spiers
Frances Spiers, a native of Carson, Miss. and resident of Carriere, Miss., passed away on June 3 in Houston. She was 73 years old.
A member of First United Methodist Church, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Southern Mississippi and taught elementary school for over 33 years in Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Michigan.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Spiers, daughter Celeste Yanes and her husband Dr. Jaime Yanes, four grandchildren, mother Reyda King Worthy, and siblings Willie Speights, Cleatus Earl Worthy Jr., Paul Worthy, Kay Deen, Nancy Weir and Mavis Bagley.
She was preceded in death by her father, Cleatus Earl Worthy Sr., daughter Janes Spiers LeBlanc, son Gerald Roger Spiers, brother Richard Worthy and sister Sue Phillips.
A funeral was held on June 6 at McNeill Cemetery in Picayune, Miss.
Ayme
Rowena Madere Ayme, a native of LaPlace and resident of Destrehan passed away on July 22. She was 71 years old.
Wife of the late Thomas “Tate” Ayme, daughter of the late August and Regina Baily Madere; mother and mother-in-law of Kim Bordelon, Keah and bobby Kelly and Kasha Cannon, all of Destrehan, and the late Thomas “Dale” Bordelon. Sister of Marie Duhe, LaPlace, sister-in-law of Ida Mae Madere, Kenner, and the late Emelda Jones, Evelina “Jack” LeMoine, Bernice “Bonnie” Monaret, Clancy, Edward “Nunu,” August “Blanc” and Raymond Madere, grandchildren and spouses Trever and Chantelle M. Bordelon, Ashleigh B. and Brandon Drake, Robi, Rachele and Leland Kelly, Ryan Cannon.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 26 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan.
Cadiere
Sue Ellen Cadiere, a native of Houma and resident of Jackson, Miss., passed away on July 12. She is survived by her husband, Richard, daughter Jennifer Hill and husband Keith, brother Richard Barnes of Raceland and sisters Martha Barnes, Betty Deslatte and Annette Banquer, all of Norco.
A memorial service was held on July 15 at St. Rose Baptist Church, followed by interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
