Richard Harrison

Funeral services for Mr. Richard Hugh "Bud" Harrison, 74, of Leesville were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in the Hixson Funeral Home chapel in Leesville with the Rev. Michael S. Harper officiating.

Mr. Harrison died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, in his residence.

He was a native of Laurel, Miss., and a longtime resident of the Leesville-Vernon Parish area. He was a local businessman, having owned and operated Bud's Mobil Station and the Kelly Tire Service Center in Leesville for a number of years. He was a member of the U.S. Navy, having enlisted in 1946 and retiring in 1966, after 20 years of service. He served in the Korean War and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam, during which he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Phillips Harrison of Leesville; one son, Richard P. Harrison of Lafayette; two daughters, Karen Reynolds of College Station, Texas , and Patti Harper of Katy, Texas ; one sister, Lula Mae Clayton of Gainesville, Fla., and six grandchildren.

The family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Lakeshore Drive, Suite No. 1585, Lake Charles, La., 70629.

Billie Jackson

Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Marie Jackson , 79, will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Feb. 11, 2003, in the Rose-Neath Bossier Chapel with the Rev. Edmond Guynn officiating.

Burial will follow in the Springhill Cemetery.

Mrs. Jackson died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, in the Summitt Hospital in Shreveport.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Kelly Jackson and Tim Jackson ; two daughters, Martha Jackson and Virginia Dodson; one sister, Mary Buford; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William Summitt

Funeral arrangements for Mr. William "Bill" Summitt (Ret. Lt. Col., DDS) will be announced by the Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Mr. Summitt died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, in the Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville.

Hollie Nolen

Funeral services for Mrs. Hollie Huggins Nolen, 46, of Rosepine were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in the Hixson Funeral Home chapel in DeRidder with the Rev. Charles Best officiating.

Burial followed in the Rosepine Cemetery.

Mrs. Nolen died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in the St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria.

She was born in DeRidder and a lifelong resident of Rosepine. She was employed as a respiratory therapist and was a member of the Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Robbie Brown of Leesville; one brother, Jim Higgins of Duncanville, Texas , and her mother, Vera Johnson Huggins of Rosepine.

Laura White

Funeral services for Ms. Laura P. White , 77, of Leesville will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 30, 2003, in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Garner officiating.

Burial will follow in the Leesville Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Thomas Mortuary of Leesville.

Ms. White died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in the Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville.

Survivors include two sisters, Blanche Poland of Leesville and Kathrine Dickson of Louisville, Ky., and one brother, Lawrence Poland of Leesville.

Mr. William Bill Bailey

Funeral services for Mr. William Bill Bailey will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church in Leesville with the Revs. Mark Brumbaugh and Wallace Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Leesville.

Bill Bailey came to Leesville in 1965 where he began serving as the Director of Sports and Recreation at Fort Polk until 1979. He served 35 years in federal service with many years for the Veteran's Administration in the recreation field. During his federal service, he received numerous superior performance awards and outstanding service awards. He was a graduate of Waco, Texas , High School, Baylor University and the National School of Business in Waco and served three years in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

After retiring from federal service, Bill served two years as a bailiff with the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office, two years as manager of the Holiday Inn in Leesville and vice president of the Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce and Tourism office in 1983-1999.

Bill was a member of the Leesville Rotary Club, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post #145, Association of the United States Army, Louisiana Travel and Promotion Association, Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association and Louisiana Associations of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

Bill was the first Leesville High School Wampus Cat Club President. He was a LHS Alumnus by choice. He started the Vernon Parish Academic Banquet and the Senior Citizen's Day at the Fair Grounds.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church for 38 years. Bill also was a Sunday School Class Director.

Bill was once quoted as saying, "I have always held people jobs because I enjoy people, both adults and children. I've never met a stranger nor anybody I can say I actually disliked."

Bill loved the Leesville, Fort Polk Community. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marjorie A. Bailey of Leesville; three daughters, Shirley Quinones of Arlington, Texas ; Debbie Smith and Kathy Rolon, both of Leesville; three step-sons, Jim Anderson and Mike Anderson, both of Leesville, and Pat Anderson of Palm Bay, Fla.; two step-daughters, Daisy Ohnimus of Houston, Texas , and Linda A. Ritts of Leesville; 15 grandchildren, Derek Davis, Dan Davis, Hunter Rougeou, Brock Rougeou, Jake Anderson, Lindsay Anderson, Dustin Smith, Erin Smith, Peter Anderson, James Anderson, Payton McKenzie Anderson, Josh Anderson, Jordan Anderson, Kiersten Rolon and Kaplan Rolon, and two great-grandchildren, Corrin Lind Davis and Justin Bailey Davis.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday in the Hixson Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday in the church.

Tabatha Evans

Funeral arrangements for Ms. Tabatha Renee Evans, 28, of Dallas, Texas , will be announced by the Thomas Mortuary of Leesville.

Ms. Evans died Sunday, July 6, 2003, in the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas .

Willie Kay

Graveside services for Mrs. Willie Mae Kay, 81, of Alexandria will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2003, in e Old Anacoco Cemetery in Anacoco with the Rev. Homer Fondren officiating.

Services will be under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. today, July 16, 2003, in the funeral home.

Mrs. Kay died Monday, July 14, 2003, in the Lexington House in Alexandria.

She was born in Leesville and lived most of her life in Anacoco. She was formerly employed in various fabric and department stores in the Leesville area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anacoco.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Jason Kay.

Fern Herrington

Funeral services for Fern Rozelle Bridges Burleson Herrington, age 67, of Florien, will be Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Many with the Revs. Roger Matkin and Durhl Davis officiating.

Herrington died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at Willis Knighton Piermont.

She will be buried at Self Cemetery in Hornbeck, after the funeral services.

She was born Sept. 29, 1935 in Rattan, La., to Beatrice and E.O. Bridges. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oscar Burleson; her daughter, Juanita Burleson; son, Roger Burleson; granddaughter, Crystal Madden-Crews; and brother, Curtis Bridges.

She is survived by her husband, Dalton Herrington of Florien; her son, Lloyd Burleson of Anacoco; daughters Rhonda Martinez and Karen Navarro, both of Leesville; one sister, Orelee Patton of Anacoco; four brothers, Oden Bridges of Hornbeck, Edward Bridges of Leesville, Ivy Bridges of Hornbeck, and Clifton Bridges of Hornbeck.

She also had five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will start at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13 at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home.

Henry Self

Funeral services for Mr. Henry Gene Self, 70, of Lake Charles will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, in the Anacoco United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Mark Roberts and Larry Whatley officiating.

Burial will follow in the Self Cemetery in Leesville under the direction of the Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, July 17, 2003, and continue until time of service Friday in the church.

Mr. Self died Wednesday, July 16, in his residence in Lake Charles.

He was a native and lifelong resident of the Anacoco-Vernon Parish area and lived in Lake Charles for the past three years. He was a sheet metal worker at Fort Polk with DEH, a longtime member of the Anacoco United Pentecostal Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Self of Lake Charles; three sons, Lester Dye of Dillon, Mont., William Hafer of New Llano and Samuel Hafer of Lake Charles; two daughters, Angela Hafer of Westlake and Wendy Hafer of Lake Charles; one brother, Cecil Self of Livingston, Mont.; three sisters, Aline Stonger of Shreveport; Ella Farris of Anacoco and Mary Hilton of Leesville, and 10 grandchildren.

Charles Milton Moore

Funeral services for Charles Milton Moore, 56, of Toro, La., will be Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville with the Revs. W.D. "Step" Martin and Nick Hilton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery in the Toro Community under the direction of Labby Memorial.

Moore died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 at his residence. He was a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Minden High School, having lived in Shreveport for 27 years. He was formerly employed at Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer and presently employed with Timber Rock Railroad. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Vietnam. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Shreveport and also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineer.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lewing Moore of Toro; one son, Charles Michael Moore of Toro; one daughter, Jennifer Lea Dean of Toro; two brothers, Bobby Moore of Anacoco and Tommy Moore of Carthage, Texas ; two sisters, Barbara Moseley of Dayline and Kay LaRocque of Lake Charles. She also had two grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 14 from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
