Gene Eubanks

Funeral services for Mr. Gene I. Eubanks, 64, of New Llano were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, in the Hixson Funeral Home chapel in Leesville with the Revs. Amos Ezell and Gervis Marting officiating.

Burial followed in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Hicks.

Mr. Eubanks died Thursday, Aug. 7, in the Plaquemine Care Center.

He was a native of Pine Bluff, Ark., and had been a resident of the Leesville-Vernon Parish area since 1972. He was a longtime member of the Sandy Hill Baptist Church. He first enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, after which he re-enlisted with the U.S. Army, where he completed his career after 22 years of service. During his tour of duty, he saw combat in Vietnam, during which he received the Bronze Star.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Funderburk Eubanks of New Llano; three sons, Gene Eubanks Jr. of Sugarland, Texas , Justin Eubanks of New Llano and Randy Eubanks of Nevada; five daughters, Lacy Funderburk of Leesville, Millie Cardwell of Raleigh, N.C., Nannett Kern of Merryville, Monica Eubanks and Lisa Eubanks, both of Nevada; three brothers, Nick Nichols of New Llano, Harry Misho and Joe Misho, both of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mattie Nugent

Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Wisby Nugent, 93, of Pitkin were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, in the Hixson Funeral Home chapel in DeRidder with the Revs. Roger Gill and James Johnson officiating.

Burial followed in the Wisby Cemetery in Cravens.

Mrs. Nugent died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, in the Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder.

She was born in Pitkin and was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a member of the Wisby Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Fred Wisby Jr. and Thomas Wisby, both of DeRidder, Willard Wisby of Gulfport, Miss., J.C. Wisby of Tulsa, Okla., and Ronald Wisby of Leesville; two daughters, Bernice Burgess of Longville and Nona Cole of Pitkin; one brother, Clyde Perkins of Pitkin; two sisters, Hattie Doyle of Pitkin and Amy Thompson of Rosepine; 29 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.

James C. "Jimmy" Paris

Funeral services for James C. "Jimmy" Paris will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2003, in the Hixson Funeral Home chapel in Leesville with the Rev. Chris Blanchard officiating. Burial will follow in the Leesville Cemetery under the direction of the Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.

Mr. Paris, 75, of Leesville, died Friday, August 15, 2003, in the Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville.

He was a native and lifelong resident of the Leesville-Vernon Parish area, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Leesville, a graduate of Leesville High School and Northwestern State University and was a member of both the LHS and NSU alumni associations. He was retired from the Louisiana Employment Agency in Leesville after completing more than 30 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.E. "Buddy" and Anne Sibley Paris.

Mr. Paris is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Sherry Paris of Leesville; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Travis Cantrell of Jonesboro, Ga.; two nephews, Mike Paris of Moss Bluff and Charles Cantrell of McDonough, Ga., and two nieces, Debbie Hibben of Jonesboro, Ga., and Dr. Nita Ann Paris of Acworth, Ga.

Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until time of service Sunday in the funeral home.

Audrey Hartley

Funeral services for Audrey Hartley, 37, of Shreveport will be held at 4 p.m. today, Sept. 28, 2003, in the Mitchell Cemetery in Anacoco.

Services will be under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Hartley died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in the Heritage Manor South in Shreveport.

Survivors include one sister, Olga Jones of Leesville.

Edward Francis Mahoney Jr.

Edward Francis Mahoney Jr., 96, of Leesville Passed away Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Byrd Regional Hospital. He was born March 25, 1907 in Hartford, Conn.

Mr. Mahoney will be cremated under the direction of the Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.

Mr. Mahoney was raised in Hartford (Parkville), Conn. He was a boxer and worked for a company hauling ice in the summer and coal in the winter by horse drawn wagon in his early years. He was also a singer. He performed with his father in vaudeville and sang at many functions.

Around 1938, he moved to Michigan and went to work for the Ford Motor Co. During his employment there, he was sponsored by Ford Motor Co. and sang at different events to raise money for war bonds during World War II.

He retired from the Ford Motor Co. in 1967 and moved to Clearwater, Fla., where he continued to enjoy life and sing. After his wife's death in 1997, he moved to Plant City, Fla., and lived with his son. After his son's death in 199, he moved to Vernon Parish and lived with his grandson, Edward F. Mahoney IV and his family until his death.

"Grandpa," as he was known by many, was always ready to strike up a conversation with anyone and throw in a song or two. He was an entertainer loved by all and will be truly by missed. We love you grandpa.

Survivors include a sister, Lillian Thompson of Wethersfield, Conn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Hornbeck and Ear of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Lois Wyatt and Clarence of Urbana, Ohio; two step-sons, Edward Clark of New York City and Jimmy Clark of Petersburg, Va.; a sister-in-law, Mary Mahoney of Wethersfield, Conn.; a daughter-in-law, Sue Mahoney of Plant City, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces and lots of friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at 4792 Savage Forks Road.

Jodee Willis

Funeral services for Mr. Jodee Lynn Willis, 27, of DeQuincy will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 28, 2003, in the Myers Colonial Funeral Home chapel in DeRidder with the Revs. George L. Glass Jr. and George Lee Glass officiating.

Burial will follow in the Old Cypress Cemetery in DeRidder.

Mr. Willis died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in his residence.

He lived in the DeRidder are most of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Willis of DeQuincy; one son, Ronald Serafin Willis of DeQuincy; two daughters, Victoria Alexandra Willis and Jessica Lynn Willis, both of DeQuincy; his mother, Debra Clark of DeRidder; his father, Michael Lee Willis of Rosepine; one brother, Michael Shaun Willis of San Antonio, Texas ; one sister, LeAnne Michelle Willis of DeRidder, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Clark of DeRidder.

Angelina Wilson

Funeral services for Mrs. Angelina Culotta Wilson, 94, of Leesville will be held at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 28, 2003, in the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Leesville with Father Salvatore Culotta officiating.

Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Leesville under the direction of the Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.

Mrs. Wilson died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in Leesville.

She was a native and lifelong resident of the Leesville-Vernon Parish area and a longtime business women in Leesville, having been a store owner and manager for over 50 years. She was the oldest living member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Connell W. Wilson.

Survivors include one son, Charles Connell Wilson of Hahnville; two daughters, Annie Rose Cryer and Florence Estelle Endris, both of Leesville; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Michael's Catholic Church.

James Brittian

Funeral services for Mr. James Edward "Midget" Brittian, 57, of Leesville will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, in the Spears Chapel in Burkeville, Texas , with the Revs. Danny Jarrell and Melvin Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in the Sycamore Cemetery in Burkeville, Texas , under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. today, Feb. 11, 2003, until time of service Wednesday in the church.

Mr. Brittian died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, in Leesville.

Survivors include three sons, James Brittian of Leesville, Roger Brittian of Burr Ferry and Timothy Brittian of Evans; three daughters, Laura Lea Calhoun of Burr Ferry, Darla May Corley of Anacoco and Mary Gladys Jordan of Leesville; his mother, Madie Brittian of Burkeville, Texas ; four brothers, Thomas "Topck" Brittian of Burkeville, Texas , Jerry Brittian of Leesville, Jack Brittian Jr. of Anacoco and S.W. "Little Boy" Brittian of Kirbyville, Texas ; two sisters, Annie Lou Jordan of Simpson and Arie Faye Biscamp of Burr Ferry, and 10 grandchildren.

Randel Dowden

Graveside services for Mr. Randel Eugene Dowden, 74, of Shreveport were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in the Prospect Cemetery in Florien.

Services were under the direction of the Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.

Mr. Dowden died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, in the Summitt Hospital in Shreveport.

He was a native of Alco, retired from heavy machinery construction and was a veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma "Billie" Dowden of Shreveport.

William Friar

Funeral services for Mr. William Carl Friar, 62, of Leesville were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in the Hixson Funeral Home chapel in Leesville with the Rev. Eddie Douglas officiating.

Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery in Slagle.

Mr. Friar died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, in the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Alexandria.

He was a native of Austin, Texas , a pipe fitter and welder foreman and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Maryland "Sissy" Friar of Leesville; four sons, William W. Friar of Lake Charles, Timothy C. Friar of LaPlace, Edmond D.T. Smiley Jr. of Pollock and Michael R. Smiley of New Orleans; four daughters, Linda Gayle White of Simpson, Malinda A. Breland of Pollock, Elizabeth A. Anderson and Malinda J. Friar, both of Houston, Texas ; one brother, Howard Friar of Porter, Texas ; two sisters, Mary Allen of Uvadale, Texas , and Velma Friar of Austin, Texas ; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
