Bette Billeaud

Funeral services for Bette T. Billeaud of Johnson Bayou will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Johnson Bayou. Fr. Roland Vaughn will officiate. Burial will follow in Head of the Hollow Cemetery in Johnson Bayou under the direction of Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until time of services Monday at Our Lady of Assumption Church. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs. Billeaud died Nov. 28, 2003 at 10:35 p.m. in Port Arthur, Texas .

She was a native of Opelousas and a lifelong resident of Johnson Bayou. She was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Billeaud; one son, Bryon Courvelle; and parents, Gervis and Angelle Thibodeaux.

Survivors include two daughters, Lydia Menard of Sunset and Peggy Thibodeaux of Lafayette; one son, Gene Courvelle of Sunset; two sisters and brothers-in-laws, Allen and Loretta Brinkhaus and Ivy and Aaron Lavergne, both of Opelousas; one step-son, Garland Billeaud of Port LaVacca, Texas ; 16 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Thomas Cameron

Thomas Newton Cameron, 88, died at 4:15 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003 in his residence.

Mr. Cameron was a native of Chickasha, Okla. and moved to Lake Charles in 1964. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Cameron graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management. He retired as plant superintendent of Tennessee Gas Transmission Company Compressor station in Grand Chenier after twenty-five years of employment. Tom, very active with the United States Power Squadron was a past commander in Lake Charles in 1977, past district 21 treasurer and a past national governing board member.

Mr. Cameron is survived by his wife, Elaine Cameron; brother, Jim Cameron of Corpus Christi, Texas ; sisters, Modell Welch of Ahwahnee, Calif., Juana Coffman of Norwalk, Calif., and Wanda Wise of New Braunfels, Texas ; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov, 30, 2003 at St. Andrewâs Episcopal Church in Moss Bluff under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Mitsy George will officiate. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the familyâs home on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. and continue at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the services.

Pallbearers will be nephews of the deceased and members of the Power Squadron will be honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the educational fund of the United States Power Squadron, P.O. Box 30423, Raleigh, N.C. 27622-0423.

Jeanette Madden

Jeanette LaCasse Madden, died November 27, 2003, in a local hospital.

She was raised in Frey, Louisiana and had lived in Lake Charles before moving to the Sulphur area 21 years ago. Mrs. Madden was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She graduated from Iota High School.

Survivors include her husband, Donald P. Madden of Sulphur; two sons, Johnny A. Duhon and wife Mona of Lake Charles and Donald V. Madden of Chatom, Alabama; three daughters, Marlene and husband Drew Fontenot and Annette and Steven Evans all of Lake Charles, and Marla and Carl Evans of Sulphur; one brother, Lawrence Alvin LaCasse of Sacramento, California; twelve grandchildren, Shawn, Lisa, Amanda, Julie, Adam, Garrett, Ricky, Felicia, Logan, Sean, Johnathan and Cody; and five grandchildren.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 1, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Monsignor Vincent Sedita will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 11 a.m. Sunday in the funeral home. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Betty L. Nunez

Sulphur, La. - Funeral services for Mrs. Betty L. Nunez, 71, of Hackberry, will be at 1 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2008 in Robison Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hackberry Cemetery.

Louis George Waldmeier, II

Louis George Waldmeier, II, 82, Passed away Friday, July 30, 2004, in his home.

He was a lifelong resident and businessman of Lake Charles. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as an avid fisherman. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was self employed as a watchmaker. He was the owner and operator of the Waldmeier and Sons Pawn Shop and Enterprise Jewelry.

Survivors include his sons, George Louis Waldmeier, III, of Carlyss, and Charles R. Waldmeier of Lake Charles; daughters, Kathleen Appelbaum of Baytown, Texas , Sally Pickering of Georgia, and Patricia Waldmeier of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Amanda Appelbaum of Oregon, Lisa Appelbaum of Baton Rouge, Louis George Waldmeier, IV, of Carlyss, and Daniel Louis Guillory of Lake Charles; brother, Robert S. Waldmeier and sister, Helen Waldmeier, both of Lake Charles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Banzhof Waldmeier and daughter, Susan Waldmeier.

His funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret's Catholic Church of Lake Charles. The Rev. Marcus Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be Sunday, 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. officiated by Deacon Dan Landry in the funeral home and Monday 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Gloria Dominguez

Funeral services for Gloria M. Dominguez, 61, of Sulphur, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Charles with the Rev. Deacon Harry Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Ms. Dominguez died Friday, July 30, 2004, at 9:21 a.m. in a Lake Charles hospital.

She was born in Laredo, Texas and graduated from Nixon High School in Laredo. She was a resident of Sulphur since 1974.

Ms. Dominguez was a bookkeeper for Jer-Ree's Clothing Store in Sulphur for more than 30 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur.

Survivors include her two sons, Dennis Dominguez and his wife Liz and Tony Dominguez, both of Sulphur; one daughter, Patsy LeBato of Lake Charles and their father Mario Dominguez of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren, Lauren LeBato, Anthony LeBato, Darien Dominguez and Madison Dominguez.

Ms. Dominguez is also survived by her mother, Francisca Guerra of Laredo, Texas ; two brothers, Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, Jr. and Jose "PePe" Garcia, both of San Antonio; two sisters, Theresa Juarez of Laredo and Fanny Church of San Antonio. She is also survived by her in-laws, Horacio and Eulalia Dominguez, both of San Jose.

Sylvia Peshoff

Funeral services for Sylvia Peshoff, 68, of Carlyss will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. The Rev. Gary Becton will officiate. Burial will be in Westlake Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until time of services.

Ms. Peshoff died Saturday in her residence.

She was a native and life resident of the Lake Charles/Carlyss area. She was a graduate of Westlake High School. Ms. Peshoff worked for the state for more than 30 years as a caseworker for abused children. She enjoyed square dancing.

Survivors include her mother, Lita Gillis Peshoff of Starks; three sons, Keith (LaDonna) Hamilton and Karl Hamilton, all of Carlyss, and Capt. Scott (Dianna) Hamilton of Hattiesburg, Miss.; one sister, Lou Ethel Champman of Moss Bluff; a special niece Linda Dousay of Beaumont, Texas ; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Mary Kyle

Services for Mary Mabel Kyle, 95, of Sulphur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Robison Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Steve Shirley will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Robison Funeral Home. Visitation Sunday will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m.

Mrs. Kyle Passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Mary Mable Kibodeaux Kyle was born Dec. 20, 1908 in Mermentau. She was a lifelong resident of Sulphur. Mrs. Kyle was a homemaker and she loved to fish.

Survivors include: sons, Joel "Lalew" Kyle of Sulphur; Larry E. Kyle of Smithville, Ark.; daughter, Anna O. Meza of Vidor, Texas ; five nephews; niece, Earline Kibodeaux and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Kyle.

Daniel Laughlin

Funeral services for Daniel Vasco Laughlin, 89 of Vinton, were held Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton.

Burial followed in the Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton.

Mr. Laughlin died Thursday, July 29, 2004 in a Sulphur nursing home.

Visitation hours were held at the funeral home Friday and Saturday with a Rosary Friday evening.

Mr. Laughlin was born on April 17, 1915 in Ged and had lived in Sulphur most of his life.

He was a member of the American Legion and of the V.F.W., St. Joseph Catholic Church and of the Knight of Columbus Council 6103 - 3rd Degree.

Mr. Laughlin served in the Merchant Marines in 1937 and entered the US Army on July 12, 1939, serving as Cpl. in the Military Police until June of 1945.

He then returned to working in the oilfield as a roughneck in Ged.

Mr. Laughlin retired from the City of Vinton as a city employee.

Survivors include one son, Daniel Joseph Laughlin of Vinton, Louisiana ; one daughter, Brenda Patrick of Hemphill, Texas ; 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Joseph E. Prather

Sulphur, La. - Rev. Joseph Ezra Prather Jr., 76, of Sulphur , Louisiana died at 4:35 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in his residence.

Rev. Prather was born March 23, 1932 in Oakdale, La. and has lived in the Sulphur area for the past forty-five years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He attended the Louisiana College in Pineville, La.

Rev. Prather was the minister of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church in Sulphur for the past four years.

He has served as a minister for the past 54 years and served the Lord faithfully.

He loved his family and his church family dearly.

In his spare time, Rev. Prather loved to fish and hunt with his close friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda “Ducky” Broussard Prather of Sulphur; daughters, Kim Prather of New Orleans, La. and Jolene Croft and husband Randy of Pride, La.; brother, John Herbert Prather of Moss Bluff; sisters, Connie Carpenter of Moss Bluff, Billie Smith of Lake Charles, Joan Thompson of Westlake, and Sherry Williams of Moss Bluff; two granddaughters, Laci Brice and husband Mitch, and Lynsi Chandler and husband Chris; and two great grandchildren, Trenton and Ty Brice.

Rev. Prather was preceded in death by one son, Bruce Prather and his parents, Opal and Joseph Prather.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at 1 p.m. from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.

Reverends Jimmy Clark and Don Popp will officiate. Burial will be in Farquhar Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the funeral home and will continue on Thursday 8 a.m. until the time of services.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Odyssey Health Care of Lake Charles for all of their support and care at the family’s time of need.

Linda Faye Caple

Dallas, TX — Linda Faye Caple, 63, died Friday, November 28, in Dallas, TX.

She was a native of Sulphur and lived in Dallas , TX for over 40 years. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, sailing and life.

Survivors include her husband Gerry Caple; brothers Marlin Bright and Ray Leroy Bright, Jr; nieces Jana Bright Fontenot and Haley Bright Morrotto; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mattie Lee Morgan and Ray Leroy Bright, Sr.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Sulphur First Baptist Church Nursery.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 2, at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from Noon until 2 p.m. in the funeral home.

Edna Etta Scruton

Sulphur, La. — Edna Etta Hoffpauir Scruton, 75, Passed away December 21, 2008 in her residence.

Edna was born November 18, 1933 in Sulphur, where she was raised, to Roy Louis Bunch and Rosie Lorena Mitchell Bunch.

She lived most of her life in Moss Bluff.

She was a loving mother, “granny,” grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Her family was always first in her life; always helping and caring for them.

She was always active and never stopped doing for others.

She started working at Memorial Hospital in the 60’s.

She also worked at St. Patrick Hospital, Colonade and retired from Valley View Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Survivors include her mother, Rosie L. Bunch, her husband, Larry Scruton of Moss Bluff; children, Sidney Hoffpauir, Carol Leger and husband Jimmy, and Kimberly Scruton; grandchildren, Holly Leger, Heather MacDonald and husband John, Bryan Leger, Lacey Everett, Krista Scruton, Jasmine and Katie; great-grandchildren, Brycen and Kallie; and three sisters.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Starcus Hoffpauir and father, Roy L. Bunch.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 in the First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff. Brothers, Shawn Thomas and Ed Rose will officiate.

Burial will follow in Ritchie Cemetery.

Brandy Scott

Lake Charles, La. - Brandy Scott, 24, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, in a local hospital.

She was a native and longtime resident of Sulphur before moving to DeQuincy six years ago. Brandy loved spending time with her children.

She will be remembered as a very loving mother who was loved by everyone that she met.

Survivors include her mother, Corrina Hoffpauir and husband, David of Sulphur; her father, Albert Scott of College Station, Texas ; her companion, Charles “Charlie” McKelvey, III of DeQuincy; three children, Landon, McKenzie, and Katelyn McKelvey, all of DeQuincy; one brother, Robert Scott of Orange, Texas ; step-brother, Brandon Hoffpauir of Sulphur; step-sister, Brandi Hoffpauir of Orange, Texas ; maternal grandparents, Ruby Jordan and husband, Jim of Moss Bluff, and Shelby and Jo Hoffpauir of Sulphur; and paternal grandparents, Robert and Ann Scott of College Station, Texas .
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.

The Rev. Joe Gosselin will officiate.

Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss.

Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with a Rosary service at 7 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Thursday in the funeral home.
