Survived by his father and mother, Kelvin and Lennie Bass Williams, Baton Rouge; paternal grandmother, Louise Williams, New Orleans; maternal grandmother, Donna Hobson, New Orleans; a sister, Whitney Arleat Bass, Baton Rouge; a stepbrother, Datron Sylvester, Raceland; three uncles, Jerome, Donald and Marcel Williams; two aunts, Gail and Pamela Williams; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Louis Butler; maternal great-grandfather, Alphonse Davis; and great-grandmother, Louise Bass Davis.

BLACK, ADA WEBB GARDNER
A real-estate agent for Prudential Properties Unlimited and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Woman's Hospital. She was 69 and a native of Star City, Ark. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and after 11 a.m. Saturday. Religious services at the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Carroll. interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by her husband, Amos L. Black Jr., Baton Rouge; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marlan and Stan Spence, Prairieville, Colleen Reeder, Raleigh, N.C., and Carolyn K. and C.J. Hebert, Boston; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Samantha and Jerry Lampe, Bethalto, Ill., and Linda and Jack Hauversburk, Alton, Ill.; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Jimmy Webb, Baton Rouge, Rudy Webb, Crossett, Ark., and Doc and Carolyn Webb, Pine Bluff, Ark.; 15 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by her first husband, R.C. Gardner; a son, Benjamin P. Gardner; a sister, Lou Ann Hager; and a brother, Cecil E. Webb. She was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church.

BOWDON, RUDOLPH N.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and former director of The O'Brien House, he died in his sleep on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katherine Alesce "Kitty" Bowdon. He is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann of Baton Rouge; and two nephews, Jerry and Jim Bowdon of Texas . Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 1 p.m. Saturday until religious services at 3 p.m. interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. BUTLER, CARRETHA LEE
A resident and native of Greensburg, she departed this life Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 96. Visiting at Turner Chapel AME Church, off La. 1042, Greensburg, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with family visiting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Religious services at the church at 2 p.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Stanley J. Carter. interment in church cemetery. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Godfrey Butler Jr. and wife Margie, Greensburg, and Clifton Butler, New Orleans; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Elmira Butler Wicker and Fred Wicker, Baton Rouge, Marguerite Butler Pitts and James Pitts, Greensburg, Carrie Butler Hampton and Lee A. Hampton Sr., Opelousas, and Evelyn Butler, Greensburg; a sister, Velma Lee, Greensburg; a brother, Tom Lee, Silver City, Miss.; two aunts, Lena Bennett Jackson and Lillie Bennett Jackson , both of Greensburg; Mildred Spriggins, Baton Rouge, who was like a special daughter to her; foster grandchildren, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins. CAZES, LEW
A resident of Port Allen, he died at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001. He was 72. Arrangements incomplete at Wilbert Funeral Home in Port Allen.

CLAYBORNE, LAURA P.
A homemaker, she died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, of lung cancer at her daughter's home in New Orleans. She was 80. Mrs. Clayborne was a lifelong resident of Prairieville. Survivors include her daughter, Gladys Roberson Mitchell of New Orleans; a sister, Josephine P. Darville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services at Mount Gillian Baptist Church, Prairieville, at 10 a.m. Saturday. Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church. Burial in the church cemetery. Lawson-Rollins Purple Shield Funeral Home in Gonzales handled arrangements.

COMBS, JR. FRANK
Age 76, a resident of Tampa, Fla., since 1998, and formerly of Ironton, Ohio, he Passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at his residence. He was born April 22, 1925, in Kenova, W.Va., the son of Frank Combs Sr. and Elizabeth Masters Combs. He was a retired operator and supervisor of Allied Chemical in Louisiana and had formerly worked at the Nitrogen Division in South Point, Ohio, before being transferred to Louisiana . He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He graduated in 1943 in Charleston, W.Va. He formerly lived in Baton Rouge for 29 years and was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Markin Combs; three children, Sandra Smith of Lafayette, Rick Combs of Baton Rouge and Sheila Fox of Tampa; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bert Edward Combs and Robert Combs. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. 7th St., Ironton, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Graveside services at Woodland Cemetery at 10 a.m. Saturday, with Dr. Rom Markin officiating.

COMPTON, ROSEMARY MONISTERE PERRICONE
A native and resident of Hammond, she died on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at her residence. She was 69. Visiting was held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. vigil prayer service. Visiting at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday. Religious services at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, at 1 p.m. Friday, conducted by a Dominican priest. interment in Rose Memorial Cemetery. Survived by three daughters, Diane Muscarello, Hammond, Mary DiBenedetto, Tickfaw, and Paula Musacchia, Hammond; two sons, Joseph A. Perricone Jr. and Michael J. Perricone, both of Hammond; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Katherne Bigner, Maryann Silessi and Beatrice Nicolosi, all of Hammond, and Anna Bell Silessi, Covington. Preceded in death by parents, Philip and Bell Dana Monistere; three brothers, Chris P. Monistere, Albert P. Monistere and Salvadore Monistere; and two sisters, Lucy Todora and Lena Alfonso. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Richard Murphy Hospice.

CRANK, CURTIS K.
Age 42 of Marietta, Ga., and formerly of Baton Rouge, he died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001. A graduate of LSU, Mr. Crank was employed as a landscape architect with HDR/W.L. Jordan Co. He was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and Holy Family Catholic Church in Canton, Ga. He is survived by his wife, Cindy A. Crank; sons, Connor and Christian Crank; a daughter, Ciara Crank; and brothers, Leonard Crank II and Ed McClure, both of Baton Rouge, and Fred McClure of Lexington, N.C. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. Liam Coyne, celebrant. DIMATTIA, DOMINIC A.
Owner and operator of Edgewood Shoe Store, a Baton Rouge family-owned business for more than 60 years, he died peacefully at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, after a brief stay at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 65, born Aug. 12, 1936, in Baton Rouge, and was a resident of Livingston. He was the eldest son of Joseph A. Dimattia and Virginia Drago Dimattia. Visiting was at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Visiting at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Chapel from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Galen Sorey and longtime friend, Deacon Jimmy Wax. Entombment in Greenoaks Mausoleum. Survived by his loving mother, Virginia Drago Dimattia of Baton Rouge; his wife of 25 years, Charmaine Thibaut Dimattia of Livingston; a brother, Dr. William J. Dimattia, sister-in-law, Janice Dimattia, and their three children, Jeffery, Gina and Christopher, all of Baton Rouge; a son, Darren J. Dimattia, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Dimattia, and their three children, Katelyn, Anthony and Sheridan, all of Prairieville; a daughter, Leslie Dimattia Bark, son-in-law David Bark, and their three children, Brandon, Blakeley and Bradley, all of Baton Rouge; a stepson, Robbie Jones, a daughter-in-law Alisa Sanders Jones, and their two children, Britnee and Ashley, all of Prairieville; a stepdaughter, Minnette Stafford Paulsen and son-in-law James H. Paulsen of Cary, Ill.; and a granddaughter, Kristyn Stafford Kilcrease of Livingston. Preceded in death by his father, Joseph A. Dimattia; and a stepson, Steve Stafford. Pallbearers will be Sammy D'Agostino, Mickey Graphia, Jeffrey Dimattia, Christopher Dimattia, Bonnie Guillory and Allen Johnson . Honorary pallbearers are William J. Dimattia and Glenn Shaw. Dominic graduated from Catholic High School on May 27, 1954, and attended LSU for two years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from Dec. 1, 1957, until termination of reserve obligation on April 8, 1962. He was a well-respected and prominent businessman in Baton Rouge. The family would like to express their thanks to the many nurses and staff of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, with special recognition to nurse Diane Nevels for her exceptional care and attention, to Dr. Roy G. Kadair and associates, Dr. Terry G. Rehn and associates, Home Care Supply and the National Infusion Service.

FOOTE, DOROTHY SLAUGHTER
A resident of Baker, she died at 11:24 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. She was 89 and a native of Port Hickey. Visiting at Baker Presbyterian Church, Baker, from noon Saturday until religious services at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ted Roeling. interment in Young Family Cemetery. FREE, DEREK ALLEN
A business owner and a resident and native of Colorado Springs, Colo., he died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001. He was 33 and a U.S. Navy veteran. Arrangements are pending with Fellowship Bible Church. Survived by his father, Charles Harold "Chuck" Free; a daughter, Ashley Lynn Free; a son, Kevin Edgar Free; and four sisters, Donna Free, Colorado Springs, Karley-Brewer-Ditgen, Kiley Free and Korey Free. He will be sorely missed by uncles and aunts, Kenneth and Randi Free, Colorado Springs, and Fred and Billie "B.J." Militello, Baton Rouge; and grandmother, Mary Jane Free, Baker. Preceded in death by his mother, Donna Carol Beaver Free.

A teacher and homemaker, she died at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. She was 84 and a lifelong resident of Plaquemine. Visiting at Wilbert Funeral Home, Plaquemine, from 9 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, celebrated by Monsignor Robert Berggreen. interment in church cemetery. Survived by a daughter, Celeste Ann "Titter" Gascon Martinez and husband Edwardo Martinez, Baton Rouge; two sons, George Wilbert Gascon and spouse Jeanie Gascon, Plaquemine, and James Altemus Gascon and spouse Celia Rinaudo Gascon, Port Allen; a sister, Germaine Lavenia Wilbert, Baton Rouge; nine grandchildren, Celeste Denise Carney, Danielle Renee Gascon, Erica Leigh Gascon, Andrea Jean Gascon, Ryan Charles Gascon, Daniel Scott Gascon, Marla Kay Gascon Tullier, Mindy Lee Gascon and Laney Beth Gascon; and great-grandchildren, Leigh Mary Tullier, Blair Olivia Tullier and Bryce Michael Ellwood. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles August Gascon Jr.; two brothers, John Fredrick Gascon and Charles Anthony Gascon; and parents, Anthony M. Sr. and Celeste Altemus Wilbert.
