Malcolm Cole
Funeral services for Malcolm Cole, 76 of DeQuincy, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Northside Baptist Church of DeQuincy. The Rev. Ray Clark and Rev. Gary Richardson will officiate. Burial will be in the Smyrna-Cole Cemetery, under the direction of Snider Funeral Home.
Mr. Cole died August 15, 2004 at Westwood Manor Nursing Home of DeRidder. Visitation hours will be at the funeral home on Wednesday August 18, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
He resided in DeQuincy for the past 42 years, where he owned and operated, Mini Music Mart and Triangle Auto Part. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church, and was the Secretary and Treasurer for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, his step mother, Irene Cole of Cole-Central, La.; two daughters; Brenda Davis of Many and Kathy Smith of DeQuincy; one half brother; Milford Cole of Lake Charles; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northside Baptist Church Building fund.
Robin Lyles- Johnson
Robin Michele Lyles- Johnson , 33, died Friday, Aug. 13, in Lake Charles.
Her funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Hixson Funeral Home of DeRidder. The Rev. George Glass officiated. Burial was in Lewis Cemetery
in DeRidder.
Survivors include her children, Katlyn Danielle Flower, Braden Wesley Flower and Chance Tyler Johnson , all of DeQuincy; parents, Gerald W. Lyles and Donna Jones of Rosepine; and brother, Prentice W. Lyles of Bunkie.
Marie Smith
Funeral services for Marie “Maw Maw” Smith, 81 of Singer, were held Tuesday, Aug. 17 at the Good Hope Baptist Church. The Revs. Ray Bourque and Leonard “Bud” Estes officiated. Burial was in the Newlin Cemetery, under the direction of Snider Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004 in the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Smith lived in Singer for 41 years. She was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church and a home bound Sunday School member.
Survivors include two daughters, Pat Stanley and Tina Fowler, both of Singer; three sons, D. Wayne Smith of Houston, Tex., Tim Smith and Dodd Smith of Singer; two sisters, Clara Clark of Longview, Tex., and Lillie White of Mesquite, Tex.; one brother, Clermont “Dale” Pickett of Windham, Tex.; six grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Good Hope Building Fund.
Joseph Nick Tramonte Sr.
Funeral services for Joseph Nick Tramonte, Sr., 61, of Holly Beach, were held Saturday, Aug. 14, at Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Herbert May officiated. Burial was in Consolata Cemetery.
Mr. Tramonte died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in his residence.
Mr. Tramonte had lived in the Lake Charles-Sulphur area before moving to Holly Beach in 1977. He served in the Navy and later was an insulator for many years. Mr. Tramonte was the owner of Joe Nick’s Motel in Holly Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Tramonte of Holly Beach; two daughters, Jennifer Tramonte Page of Sulphur and LaVonda Potts of Angleton, Tex.; three sons, Joseph Nick Tramonte, Jr., of Lake Charles, Jeffery Scott Tramonte of Fort Drum, N. Y., and Johnathan Nick Tramonte of DeQuincy; two sisters, Rosalie Bertrand of Longville and Ann Ball of Marlow, Okla; and 16 grandchildren.
Gerald Lee Courmier
Funeral services for Gerald Lee Courmier, 35, of Starks, were held Monday, Aug. 16, at the Starks First Baptist Church. Rev. Tony Bourque officiated. Burial was in Lee Cemetery
near Vinton under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Mr. Courmier died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004.
He was a 1987 graduate of Starks High School and attended McNeese State University. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1987-1991 during Operation Desert Storm.
He was a paramedic for Life Care Ambulance and later for Acadian Ambulance Service. He was a State Paramedic Instructor, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Starks.
He is survived by his wife, Belinda Trahan Courmier; one son, Ryan Shane Courmier; one daughter, Elizabeth Marine Courmier, all of Starks; his father, James H. “Jim” Courmier; his mother, Peggy Courmier, and his stepmother, Theresa Courmier, all of Starks; one sister, Dora Denice Courmier of Bridge City, Tex.; two brothers, Lawrence Homer Courmier of Hitchcock, Tex., and James Terrence Courmier of Vinton; and a stepbrother, Jeffery Allen Langley of Lake Charles.
Margie McDaniel
Margie McDaniel 78, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 in a Tacoma, Wash. hospital.
Mrs. McDaniel was a native of DeQuincy and had moved to Roy, Wash. to be near her daughter. Survivors include her son, George Terrell McDaniel of Orange, Tex., and her daughter, Catherine Darlene Begley of Roy, Wash.
Mrs. McDaniel was preceded in death by her husband; Homer McDaniel.
Services were held Sunday, Oct. 3, in Hixson-Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy. The Rev. Garfield Lamon and Rev. Monroe McDaniel officiated. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery.
Herbert Kay Parish
Funeral services for Hebert Kay Parish, 61, of Starks, were held Friday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m. at the First Pentecostal Church in Starks with the Revs. Greg Frazier and Jeremy Shields officiating. Burial was in Hyatt Cemetery
in Fields.
Mr. Parish died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004 in Starks.
He was a native of McCool Miss. and had lived in the Starks area for the past 32 years and was a retired heavy equipment operator and maintenance man for the Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange, Tex. He was a member of the Starks Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his wife Jean Parish of Starks; one son, Travis Parish of Starks; two daughters, Marilyn Bauman of Starks and Cheryl Moore of Monroe; five brothers, Draper Johnson , Bobby Parish, Ray Parish, Charles Parish, all of Weir, Miss. and Dewey Lee Parish of Yakima, Wash.; five sisters, Wilma Ingram of Winona, Miss., Christine McMary of Lake, Miss., Grace Myers of Weir, Miss., Ruth Baily of Gonzales, Berry Hennings of Nashville, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.
Johnny Earl Snider, Sr.
Funeral services for Johnny Earl Snider, Sr., 75, of Bancroft, were held Thursday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. at the First Apostolic Church of Merryville with the Revs. Guy Snyder, Jerry Gilland, Roy Hoosier and Mike Russell officiating. Burial was in the Spike Cemetery
of Bancroft.
Mr. Snider died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 in DeQuincy.
He resided in the Bancroft Community all of his life and was a member of the First Apostolic Church of Merryville. He spent his leisure time hunting, fishing and trapping. He played the guitar with the Sabine Playboys.
Survivors include his wife Maxine Bingham Snider of Bancroft; three sons, Johnny E. Snyder, Jr., Rev. Guy Snyder and Louis W. Snyder, all of Bancroft; four sisters, Zelda Rainwater, Daisy Prince and Beth Baid, all of DeQuincy, and Pansy Travis of Orange, Tex.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Audice Ray Dixon
Audice Ray Dixon, 84, died Jan. 29, 2005 in Austin, Tex. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Marie Douglas Dixon.
He was born in Breckenridge, Tex. and attended schools in West Texas as his dad followed the oil booms of the 1920’s. In 1930 the oil boom lead them to East Texas and western Louisiana . While attending high school in DeQuincy, Ray met Peggy Douglas. They were married June 29, 1940.
In September 1942 Ray enlisted in the Army-Air Force where he served as a gunnery instructor with the 22nd Bomb Group in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations, and was honorably discharged in February 1946.
Prior to WW II in 1938, Mr. Dixon began working for American Republic Corp in Hull-Daisetta area, where he held various positions in production and gas plant operations. He was promoted to warehouseman in 1951. Sinclair Oil & Gas purchased American Republic in March 1955. Ray was transferred to Midland, Tex., in 1962 as materials supervisor where he and his family resided for many years. In 1969 with the merger of Atlantic Richfield Co. and Sinclair, he was again promoted to purchasing and inventory supervisor. In 1977, he was transferred to Houston, Tex., to lead the materials distribution for tubular goods going to the North Slope in Alaska for ARCO. In 1983, Ray retired from ARCO with 45 years of service and he and Peggy moved to Amistad Acres in Del Rio, Tex.
He is survived by two sons, William Edward Dixon and wife Sue of Elgin, Tex. and George Ray Dixon, and wife Velvet of Austin, Tex. seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy, on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery, Rev. Tracy MacKenzie will officiate.
Humphrey (Junior) Warren
Funeral services for Humphrey (Junior) Warner will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5 at Bethel AME Church in DeQuincy. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. to 10:45.
Mr. Warner, died on Friday, Jan. 28 in Santee, S. C., where he lived in recent years with his son, Charles Jerome Warner. He was a lifelong resident of DeQuincy and a member of Bethel AME church where he served as Trustee and Class Leader for many years.
Survivors include his sisters, Lou T. Smith of DeRidder, Ida Mae White of Lake Charles, Doris Tanner of Sulphur; sons, Isiah M. Warner, Sr. of Baton Rouge, Charles J. Warner of Santee, S. C., Timothy Walker Warner of Dallas, Tex.; a step daughter, Gloria Faye Laurent of Cottonport; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren.
Winifred Fern Box
Funeral services for Winifred (Wendy) Fern Box, 60, were Wednesday, Jan. 26 at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home Chapel in DeQuincy. Burial was in Rigmaiden Cemetery
with the Reverend Frank Hodges officiating.
Mrs. Box died Jan. 21, 2005. She was a retired postal clerk with the United States Postal Service. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Christian Women’s Club of Orange, Tex.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynnette Box Jackson .
Survivors include her husband, Lynn Box of Florien; two sons, Gregory Lynn Box of Buna, Tex. and Alan Lee Box of Atlanta, Ga.; her mother, Dorothy Hamilton Roberts of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Christine Jones of Burbank, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Fred Shoemake
Fred Shoemake, 87, died Sunday Jan. 30, 2005 in Sulphur. He was born in Big Woods and was a life time resident of this area. Mr. Shoemake was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, and worked for Calcasieu Parish as a dragline operator for 20 years.
Survivors include four sons: Thomas and Ernest “Red” Shoemake of Sulphur, Clarence Shoemake of Fields, and Billy “Bee” Shoemake of Big Woods ; one daughter; Delores Conner of Fred, Tex.; one sister, Lena St.Germain of Topsy; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren
Mr. Shoemake was preceded in death by his wife; Eula St.Germain Shoemake.
Services for Mr.Shoemake were held Tuesday, Feb. 1, in Pine Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry Hext officiated. Burial was in McFatter Cemetery.
Ruby Streams Barrow
Ruby Streams Barrow, 75, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 in the DeQuincy Hospital.
A lifelong resident of DeQuincy, Ruby was a charter member of Hargrove Bible Baptist Church where she formerly served as a clerk for 31 years.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Gaston H. “Nook” Barrow; daughter, Debra Romayne Stampley; sons, Harvey Lee “Rusty” Barrow, Thomas Newton “Gooty” Barrow, Russell Wayne Barrow; sisters, Bessie Bagwell, Mary Streams; brothers, Tommy “Shorty” Streams, Lonnie Streams, all of DeQuincy; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Mar. 2, in Hargrove Bible Baptist Church under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home. Bro. Harry Methvin, Rev. Paul Nugent, Rev. Bill Standley and Rev. Jimmie Clark will officiate with burial in Masonic Cemetery.
