Donnie Gene Giles

Funeral services for Donnie Giles, Age 55, will be held Friday, June 22, 2012 at 10:00 am at Plain Dealing Baptist Church, where he was a long-time member. Brother Chad Hardbarger, assisted by Brother Art Walker, Sunday School Director at First Baptist Bossier, will officiate. Burial will follow at Plain Dealing Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Plain Dealing, LA.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm at Plain Dealing Baptist Church.
Donnie was born October 23, 1956 in Shreveport, LA and was a life-long resident of Bossier Parish. Surrounded by his loving family, he went home to be with the Lord, his beloved parents, and brother June 18, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gene and Doris Giles, and brother Thomas Ray Furqueron.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of ten years, Gwen Giles; daughter Rhonda Meehan and husband Tom, and grandson Christian of Carrollton, TX; son Brad Tyra and wife Paige, and grandson Kade of Madison, MS; father-in-law Melvin McCain of Langston, AL; mother-in-law Challis Morris of Sylacauga, AL; sister Dianne and husband Tedd of Bedford, TX; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Donnie was raised in Plain Dealing, LA and graduated from Plain Dealing Academy in 1975. He then went to Bossier Parish Community College before transferring to Louisiana Tech University where he studied communications and broadcasting.
Donnie was a devoted member of First Baptist Bossier City, LA.
Donnie loved books and reading since he was just a boy, so it is no surprise that he worked for Bossier Parish Libraries for 28 ½ years. With his gentle and outgoing personality, Donnie touched so many lives, brightened so many days, and lightened so many hearts.
The precious memories of Donnie “Pops” will keep him alive forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Willis Knighton Bossier Critical Care Unit for their care and devotion to Donnie, his family, and his friends.
Pallbearers will be Lee Adams, Ronnie Baird, Jimmy Day, Steve Gore, Dennis Hayes , Adrian Lee, Roy Morgan, Dewayne Picket and Billy Weeks.

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Nelson, age 80, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 31, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Cotton Valley with Rev. Bryan S. Dauphin officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, LA.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Bailey Mortuary in Springhill, LA.
Mrs. Nelson, a resident of this area since 1977, died Monday, December 27, 2010 in Shreveport. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a secretary at the LA Army Ammunition Plant and was an oil scout for Marathon Oil Company for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bob Dean Nelson on July 19, 2006.
She is survived by her daughters, Gayle Dowdle of Ft. Myers, FL; Jill Wallace and husband, Jason of Casey, IL and Joy West of West Monroe, LA; son, Scott Thomas and wife, Marsha, of Sigel, IL; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Lloyd Nicholas of Champaign, IL and a number of nieces and nephews.

Haynesville, LA - Funeral services for James Jimmy Carter, age 70, of Haynesville will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the Bailey Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Jeff Willis officiating.
Interment will follow at the Friendship Cemetery in Haynesville under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Haynesville, LA.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Bailey Funeral Home in Haynesville.
Mr. Carter was born May 10, 1941 in Haynesville, LA to Clinton and Edna Smith Carter and passed from this life Friday, February 24, 2012 in Shreveport, LA. He was a retired welder from Local 798 where he was employed in the gas and oil pipeline industry. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was an avid golfer. Jimmy also loved to hunt, fish, garden bird watch and fix things.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Lisa G. Carter of Haynesville, LA, Jamie Carter and wife, Pam of Haynesville, LA and Jenessa Carter Hicks and husband, Garron of Oxford, MS; grandchildren, Dusty Carter and Kylee-Jo Hicks; brother, Eulous Carter and wife, Gerri of Nashville, AR and sister, Lena Jewelle Garrett of Bossier City, LA.
His was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gay Carter, of 45 years, and his sister Diann Hadwin.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mamie Rachel Butts Barnard, age 101 years and 15 days, will be held Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jess Dickison and Rev. Tim Everett officiating. Interment will follow in Western Cemetery, Emerson, AR under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.
Visitation will begin Thursday, December 6, at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Ms. Mamie was born November 20, 1911 in Shongaloo, LA to Johnnie E. and Lucretia Burns Butts and passed away suddenly Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in Springhill. She was born on a farm and helped work it as all farm children did. When asked to what she attributed her long, healthy life, she would reply, “plowing”. Mamie was a member of North Arkansas Church of Christ, a seamstress and homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Bryan and husband, Robert of Springhill, LA; one grandson, John R. Bryan and wife, Suzette of Mandeville, LA; one great granddaughter, Whitney Bryan of New York City, NY; one great grandson, John Benjamin Bryan of Baton Rouge, LA; nieces, Ruth Willis of Rockwall, TX, Lois Triplet of Lake Erling, AR, Clois Cook of Sarepta, LA and Faye Timmons of Mt. Enterprise, TX
Ms. Mamie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Omie Haynes and brother, Cliff Butts.
Pallbearers will be Ben Bryan, Bobby Nelson, Tom Burns, Keith Shofner, Bruce Griffin and Gerald Holland.
A special thanks to her caregivers for their loving service, Lois Fish, Lois Tripp, Ann Carpenter, Elaine Walding and Janis Murphy.

Graveside services for Mr. Sam B. Kersh, Jr., age 89, will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 10, 2010, in Springhill Cemetery with Rev. Tim Everett officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, LA.
Visitation will begin Friday at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Mr. Kersh was born September 12, 1920 in Goshen Springs, MS to Sam B. and Virginia Williams Kersh, Sr. and passed away April 5, 2010 in Bossier City, LA. He was a resident of Natchitoches, LA and a former resident of Springhill from 1963 until 2000. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, a member of the Springhill Mason Lodge #348 F & AM, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the El Karubah Shrine Temple of Shreveport. Mr. Kersh was a US Navy Veteran of WW II, a member American Legion Post #166 and served as a former commander. He was also the owner/operator of an appliance store from 1963 until 1988.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra K. Debbie Colwell and husband, Steve of Natchitoches, LA, Pam K. Leach and husband, Charles of Keller, TX; grandchildren, Reed Stuart and wife, Jill, Brad Burke, Dean Burke, Corey Stuart and wife, Shelly, Jennifer Stuart and great grandchildren, Blake and Cody Burke and Landry Alexandra Ali Stuart.
Mr. Kersh was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois York Kersh; two sisters and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be nephew, Bob Kersh, Jr., grandsons, Corey Stuart, Reed Stuart, Brad Burke, Dean Burke and Wes Colwell.

Harrell Wallace Farrar

Memorial services for Mr. Harrell Wallace Farrar age 75 will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Barbara Lewis officiating under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, Louisiana.
Mr. Farrar was born on May 26, 1936 to Rodale and Jewell Farrar and passed away on September 1, 2011 at Willis Knighton Bossier .He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on the USS Bennington and was retired from International Paper Company. In 1964 Harrell was the Texas State Pigeon Shooting Champion and in 1974 he was awarded the Southern Sectional Bow Hunter Championship. He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed playing golf at the Springhill Country Club. Harrell was a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family.
Harrell is survived by his wife, Faye Farrar, his mother Jewell Farrar Lowrey, children Minette Farrar Williamson and husband Shawn, James Gregory Milloway and wife Ireen, Michael Wallace Milloway, Beverly Neely and Wayne Burns; grandchildren - Josh Milloway, Jonathan Ureta, Krystle Milloway, Brittany Milloway, Blake Farrar, Emiley Reser, Kevin Willamson, Makenzie Burns; and brother Stacy Crumley and wife Diane. Harrell was preceded in death by his father.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 6400 Columbia Rd. 7, Emerson, AR 71740 or charity of donor's choice.
