Thomas Earl Talley

Born in South Arkansas in the Western Community July 16,1929, he was the only son of Frank and Nora Haynes Talley. The surrounding countryside abounded with wildlife and provided a lifelong interest.
He passed away in Homer October 18, 2012 with his family at his side. Funeral services will be held at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Springhill, Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 3:00 o'clock with visitation beginning at 2:00 PM until service. Interment will follow in Western Cemetery, Emerson, AR under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
His love for his family was paramount in his life, and was demonstrated by many offerings of barbecue and the trimmings. His business ventures included assisting his sons in the pharmacy, tending his cattle, and various other activities.
He graduated from Walkerville/Emerson High School and attended Southern Arkansas University. He was of Methodist faith and was a member of the Men's Bible Class of First Methodist Church in Homer.
He was blessed by advances in the medical profession during the pioneer days of open heart surgery in Houston.
Survivors include his wife of 63 and a half years, Jane Talley; .son, Larry and wife, Penney, son Brennan and wife, Patricia; grandchildren, April Ashmore of Homer, Aaron Talley of Belize, Lauren Talley of Los Angeles, Melissa Ellis and husband, Jimi; great grandchildren include Libby and Aspen Ashmore of Homer, Jessie Ellis of Homer, Todd Taylor of Bossier City, Mae Claire and Evi Talley of Cleveland, Ohio.
Pallbearers include Frank Speer, Dan Furlow, Billy Frye, Todd Taylor, Larry Garrett, and Herschel Talley.

Philora "Phil" Kottenbrook Hull Ownbey
August 31, 1925 - February 15, 2012
Funeral services for Philora Phil Hull Ownbey, age 86, will be held Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM in Trinity Worship Center, located on Academy Lane, Springhill, LA, with Rev. Tommy Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral, Springhill, LA.
Visitation will begin Saturday at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bailey Funeral Home.
Phil was born August 31, 1925, the youngest of eleven children, to John and Rosa B. Kottenbrook in Farmerville, LA and departed from this world February 15, 2012 peacefully in her home after a lengthy illness.
After marrying Jon E. Hull in 1946, they moved to Springhill and established Hull Furniture and were in business there for over 50 years as well as Mademoiselle Ladies Apparel and was there for over 40 years. They were members of Central Baptist Church for many years where they served in many capacities and established many lifelong friends. Later they became charter members of Trinity Worship Center and became instrumental in establishing the Christian Academy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 56 years, Jon E. Hull in 2002.
Many years later she married a former sweetheart, from her early adult years, James Ruel Ownbey of Cleveland, TN. He also preceded Phil in death in November of 2010.
Phil and both husbands served our Dear Lord and Savior faithfully and touched many lives over the years.
She is survived by daughter, Jonette Ruth Hull Garrett and husband, Mack of FL; chosen daughter, Sherri K. Thurman and husband, Mike; granddaughter, Amanda; grandson, Jon, all of Springhill, LA; Godchild, Anna Nickerson Frye and husband, Matt and daughter, Tynlee of Bossier City, LA; step-daughter, Jennifer Link of VA; step-sons, Rudy Ownbey, Jimmy Ownbey; their wives, children and grandchildren of Cleveland, TN and number of nieces and nephews.
Phil had two very special friends, Reba Robinson and Jean Florey who have also preceded her in death.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Kottenbrook, Don Kottenbrook, David Kottenbrook, Jake Kottenbrook, Brandon Kottenbrook, Cory Kottenbrook, R. P. Ricky Pace, Lamar Ogburn, Dakoda Maples and Don Rhodes.

Memorial services for Ms.Billie Nix Knighton, age 76, will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011, 10:00 am in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill, LA with Rev. Wayne J. Johnson officiating under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.
Ms. Knighton was born on February 8, 1935 to Grady and Mamie Nix in Stamps, AR and passed away on September 20, 2011 in Bossier City, Louisiana . She was retired from Evergreen Community Services, loved her flowers, animals and loved to work in her yard. Mrs. Knighton was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana Ramsey and husband, Fred of Springhill, LA; two sons, Richard Knighton of Cotton Valley, LA, James Knighton and Lori of Cotton Valley, LA; two grandsons, Andy Ramsey of Springhill, LA, Robbie Knighton of Fort Worth, TX; four granddaughters, Chrissy Knighton of Cotton Valley, LA, Chasity Alford of Jacksonville, FL, Amanda Covington of Cotton Valley, LA, Crystal McManis of Springhill, LA and six great-grandchildren.
Ms. Knighton was preceded in death by her father, Grady Nix; mother, Mamie Nix Roberts; brother, Charles Caldwell and sister, Inez Wilson.

Sylvia Sandlin O'Bier Burnett

Lake Erling, AR - Funeral Services for Sylvia Sandlin O'Bier Burnett, age 87, will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the Bailey Mortuary Chapel in Springhill, with Rev. Tim Everett officiating. Interment will follow in the Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, LA.
Family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

Sylvia was born Feb. 20, 1922, in Taylor, AR to Samuel Clayton and Ida Dees Sandlin, now deceased and passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 in Taylor, AR. Sylvia's one sister is Hope Tyler of Springhill. Sylvia had a full and happy life before the Lord called her home. At the early age of 16, she married and outlived Fred Warren O'Bier. They enjoyed many happy years and raised 5 children together in Springhill. Sylvia joined Central Baptist Church in 1938, when it was a single wooden building. Sylvia was a Homemaker and loved to be involved with her family and friends. Her table was always full and her door was open to all as she loved to cook. Friends and family recall happy memories around the table. Sylvia, or Granny to her grandkids, enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and arts and crafts. During her later years, Sylvia married Clarence "Smiley" Burnett, now deceased. They enjoyed 20 years of retirement and travel together even though both endured ill health.
Sylvia was a kind, gentle and caring person to all who knew her. She was a daughter, sister, wife, Mother, friend, neighbor, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother. Being a child of God, Sylvias loved ones thank her Heavenly Father for so many treasured memories during her 87 years on earth. As we all know, sometimes only comfort from Mama is needed. Sylvia was such a Mama.
Sylvia was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Taylor VFW Auxiliary. Sylvia is survived by her sister, Hope Tyler, and her 5 children: Sammy Drew O'Bier and wife, Joye of Beaumont, TX; Betty Sue O'Bier Robinson and husband, Mack of Clinton, MS; Fred Warren O'Bier, Jr. of Dardanelle, AR; Michael Wayne OBier and wife, Sandy of Hot Springs, AR and Paula Jane O'Bier House and husband, Jimmy, of Alma, AR,; 8 grandchildren: Kim O'Bier, Kelli O'Bier Rawls, Klay O'Bier, Rhonda Robinson Roberts, Rusty Robinson, Mary Autumn O'Bier Cribb, Michael Paul O'Bier, and Tim House, and 9 great grandchildren: Randi Rawls, Taylor Robinson, Austin Robinson, Mackenzie Robinson, Reagan Robinson, Haley McCoy, Katherine Cribb, Tristin Cribb and Ian Cribb. Sylvia's step-sons are Carl Burnett of Boise, Idaho, Dennis Burnett and Mary Ann of Little Rock, AR and Mark Burnett of Little Rock, AR.

Mary McLaren Halterman
August 28, 1925 - August 15, 2012
Springhill - Mary McLaren Halterman died during her afternoon nap on August 15, 2012. She was born in Springhill on August 28, 1925, to wonderful parents, Bill and Lena Myers McLaren. She graduated at age 15 from Springhill High School and attended Louisiana College.
She was married for 57 years to Simmie Halterman who passed away in 2003. She was predeceased by her son, David. She is survived by her son Elwood Halterman and his wife Lisa, and her daughters Mary Ellen Halterman and Susan Bujol. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Trey Halterman, Rebekah Bujol, Megan Smith Barker and her husband Roy, Meredith Smith, Rachel Bujol, Robert Smith and his wife Angie, and Michael Bujol.
Mrs. Halterman was a loving mother and grandmother who let her children and grandchildren know how proud she was of each of them. She also loved her many friends in Springhill and especially Central Baptist Church. She had a vast knowledge of the Bible. She could recall a verse for any occasion or in reference to any question, such as, “Hey Mom, where does it say . . . “ She was not very fond of television, but was an avid reader and a talented seamstress. She was a past member of Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary.
Honoring her as pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Springhill. Services will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Central Baptist Church in Springhill, where she was a faithful member, with Rev. Tim Everett officiating. Burial to follow at Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Mr. Terrel A. Vaughan, age 56, will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 10:00 AM in Blocker Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Richard Williams officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, October 16, at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Mr. Vaughan was born September 19, 1956 and passed away October 14, 2012 in Springhill, LA. He was a lifelong resident of this area
He is survived by his wife, Sally Bucklin Vaughan of Sarepta, LA; daughters, Alicia Reeves and husband, Blake of Minden, LA, Suzanna Williams and husband, Richard of Sibley, LA, Cynthia Haire of Shreveport, LA; son, T.J. Cox of Alexandria, LA; grandchildren, Logan, Aiden, Kanon, Jolan, Ayla, Connor and Eli; sister, Connie Sanders and brothers, Paul and John Vaughan.
