Sarepta, LA - Funeral services for Mr. Howard Eugene "Gene" Ward, age 84, will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, December 21, 2012, at the Old Sarepta Missionary Baptist Church, Sarepta, LA, with Rev. Charles Woolley and Rev. Todd Pickard officiating. Interment will follow in Old Sarepta Cemetery, under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Bailey Funeral Home , Springhill, LA.
Mr. Ward was born on September 10, 1928 in Coushatta, LA to William Howard and Julia Gladon Griffith Ward and passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in Sarepta, LA.. He was a native of Red Parish and was a resident of this area for 42 years. He was a faithful member of Old Sarepta Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School Superintendent for over 20 years and as a teacher for an adult Sunday School class for 10 years. He loved music and was a member of the church quartet. He was a retired employee of International Paper Company with 26 years of service and was retired from the LA DOT with 11 years of service. He was a member of the Springhill Masonic Lodge #348 F&AM; for over 50 years and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Lynn Ward; sister, Fannie Blackwell and brother, Laurie Ward.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary SullivanWard; daughter, Mary Rebecca "Becky" Ward and sons, James Steelman, all of Sarepta, LA; David Steelman and wife, Annette of Springhill, LA; grandson, Shannon Steelman and wife, Kim of Bossier City, LA; great granddaughters, Aubrie and Serenity; brothers, Tommy Ward and wife, Myrtle of Sarepta, LA; Sherwood Ward and wife, Ethel of Martin, LA; a number of nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Woods, Randy Ward, Jason Ratliff, Roger Schumacher, Charles "Monk" McGuffey and Wallace Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Reeme and Billy Sayers.

Gene Hollis Giles
January 22, 1929 - June 15, 2012
Funeral services for Gene Giles, Age 83, will be held Friday, June 22, 2012 at 10:00 am at Plain Dealing Baptist Church, where he was a member for 47 years. Brother Chad Hardbarger, assisted by Chaplain Keith Rowe, will officiate. Burial will follow at Plain Dealing Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Plain Dealing, LA.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm at Plain Dealing Baptist Church.
Gene was born January 22, 1929 in the Emma Community, and was a life-long resident of Plain Dealing.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Mattie Giles; wife Doris Giles; son Thomas Ray Furqueron; brothers Roy, M.B., and Woodrow Giles; sisters Janie Ray Belcher, Ruth Cochran, Lorene Dean, and Mavis Tilley.
Left to cherish his memory are daughter Dianne Darnell and husband Tedd of Bedford, TX; daughter-in-law Gwen Giles of Benton, LA; grandchildren Darren Darnell and wife Angela of Arlington, TX, Melissa Kappus and husband Stan of Grapevine, TX, Brian Furqueron and wife Tracy of Benton, Rachel Mason and husband Jason of Benton, Rhonda Meehan and husband Tom of Carrollton, TX, Brad Tyra and wife Paige of Madison, MS, thirteen great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Annie Lou Dobbs and Margaret Giles, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
After 25 years with the U.S. Postal Service, Gene served as a member of the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Posse. He was also co-owner of Giles & Hearn Car Wash Co. for many years.
He went home to be with the Lord, his beloved wife of 58 years, Doris, and his oldest son, Thomas Ray, on June 15, 2012.
Three days later, precious son Donnie Giles joined his family in heaven to forever walk on the streets of gold. What a glorious reunion!
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
While Gene’s physical presence will surely be missed, his memory will live forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Whispering Pines Nursing Home, Promise Hospital, and Willis Knighton Bossier for their care and dedication to the Giles family.

Funeral services for Mr. Gary Scott Fain, age 47, will be held Friday, January 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM in Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill with Rev. Tim Everett and Rev. Mitch Stubblefield officiating. Interment will follow in Old Sarepta Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.
Visitation will begin Thursday at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Mr. Fain was born August 18, 1963 in Germany to Joe Donald Fain, Sr. and Margaret Terrell Fain and passed way Friday, January 7, 2011 in Lafayette, LA. He had been a resident of Springhill for sixteen years, a member of Central Baptist Church and was a self-employed Drilling Engineer. Mr. Fain loved fishing and music. He was also a professional guitarist. Mr. Fain was much loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, who was his heart and soul, Melanie Denmon Fain of Springhill, LA; mother, Margaret Terrell Fain; father, Joe Donald Fain,Sr.and wife, Bobbie, all of Lafayette, LA; brothers, Joe Fain, Jr and wife, Carla of Lafayette, LA, Greg Fain and wife, Kim of Vidalia, LA; a host of nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Loyce Crisp Denmon, sister-in-law, Catherine Denmon Payne; special nephew and wife, John Thomas and Jessica Payne; special nieces, Kate and Sarah Payne and great nephew, Nate.
Mr. Fain was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Tom Denmon.
Pallbearers will be Mitch Stubblefield, Mike Buckner, Grover Ranz, Casey Watson, Cecil Anglin and John Thomas Payne.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Alice Malone Sparkman, age 71, will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Sam Marino and Bro. Carl Harrell officiating. Interment will follow in Plain Dealing Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing, LA.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing, LA.
Mrs. Sparkman was born December 23, 1940 in Shreveport, LA to C.W. and Maxine Long Malone and passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Plain Dealing, LA after a lengthy illness. She was a member of Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church and was a homemaker. When she wasnt raising her seven children and watching their families grow, she spent her time gardening, quilting, watching baseball, playing BINGO, splitting and selling firewood, learning about her family tree, and sharing it with others, telling stories of her childhood and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
She is survived by her husband, of 52 years, Nariel Maryland N.M. Sparkman; sons, Sam Sparkman and wife, Melissa of Shreveport, LA, Ben Sparkman and girlfriend, Celeste Leal of Katy, TX; daughters, Diana Adams and husband, Tommy, Sue Foster and husband, Vince, Sarah Jo VanDevender and husband, Doug, all of Plain Dealing, LA, Julie Smith and husband, Rodney of Sarepta, LA; daughter-in-law, Earlene Sparkman of Plain Dealing, LA; grandchildren, John Adams, Billy Adams and wife, Carrie, Keri Sparkman Ashley and husband, Joey, Bridget Sparkman and fiance, Johnny Williams, Daniel Foster and wife, Lisa, Joe Foster and wife, Elizabeth, Wesley Sparkman and wife, Leighanne, Katy Sparkman Tipton and husband, Daniel, William Blake Smith, Erin Grace Smith and Audrey Maryland Smith; great grandchildren, Gabe and Anna Adams, Alaysha Sparkman, Jordan and Jayden Williams, Riley, Garrett, Emma and Reagan Foster, Brantley and Bryleigh Sparkman, Landyn and Annison Tipton; brothers, Steve Malone and wife, Carol, Dwight Malone and wife, Nona, Danny Malone and wife, Nelda, Hershel Malone and wife, Cynthia; brothers-in-law, Marshal Easley, Sam Mack Sparkman, Bobby A. Sparkman; sisters-in-law, Katherine Sparkman Edwards, Oma Jean Sparkman Cook and husband, Sonny; an uncle Geon Malone; aunts, Bertie Malone Parish, Cortez Corkey Long Patterson, Ann Long Rance and husband, Wesley, Mary Jackson Malone, Bobbye Smith Malone Lowe and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Sparkman was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joyce Easley; son, Bobby Dale Sparkman; granddaughter, Johanna Gail Adams and nephews, Steve Vernon Stevie Malone, Jr. and Russell Lot Malone.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family wishes to thank the staff and the many wonderful residents of the Whispering Pines Nursing Home and Agape Hospice for the excellent care they gave Mrs. Mary. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Nicole McCommon, Dr. Michael Banda, her long time family physician, Dr. Sam Holladay and Sharon Sanders, RN and friend, for going the extra mile.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, St. Jude and/or Shriners Hospitals.

Funeral services for Mildred Maurene Pace, age 85, of Haynesville, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2011 in the Chapel of Bailey Funeral Home with Bro. R.L. Dison officiating. Burial will follow in the Colquitt Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in the chapel of Bailey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pace was born in Union County, Arkansas on July 25, 1925 to David and Iris Wilson Ledbetter and passed from this life on Monday, April 4, 2011 in Haynesville, Louisiana.
She was a homemaker and a very loving mother and grandmother.
Those left to cherish her memory are her seven children: Mildred Cotten of Benton, Arkansas, Frances Dison of Haynesville, Louisiana, Sharon Fennell of Homer, Louisiana, Billy Murray of Los Fresnos, Texas, Chuck Murray of El Dorado, Arkansas, Keith Eiland of Camden, Arkansas and Ken Eiland of Fayetteville, North Carolina; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters. She will also be missed by a number of other special relatives and friends.
Mrs. Pace was preceded in death by: her husband, Henry Murray, one sister, two brothers and her daughter-in-law, Patty Murray.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
