Virginia Horneman Allen

Bradley, AR/Plain Dealing, LA - Virginia Horneman Allen, 86, passed away April 1, 2012 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born September 20, 1925 in Plain Dealing, Louisiana to Oliver Lawrence and Hattie Markham Horneman.
Virginia spent the early years of her life in Plain Dealing. As a young woman, during WWII, she worked for the FBI in Washington, DC. Following the war, she returned to Plain Dealing and married Charles G. Allen of Bradley, AR. They had one son, Charles G. Gib Allen. She was an active member of Bradley Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and later served the church as secretary. During her life she was a secretary for Bradley Schools, Lusk Chevrolet in Plain Dealing, and Charles G. Allen Construction.
Mrs. Allen is survived by three grandsons, Kyh Allen and wife, Lauren of Shreveport, LA, Landon Allen and fiance, Ashley Travis of College Station, TX, Jeremy Allen of New Braunfels, TX; four sisters, Marilyn Collins of Plano, TX, Marihelen Horneman of Bossier City, Madeline Anderson and husband, Charles of Bossier City, Winona Authement of Plain Dealing; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Allen Bishop of Bradley, AR and Mary Helen Horneman of Bossier City; brother-in-law, Baxter Arnold of Sterling, CO; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles G. Allen; son, Charles G. "Gib" Allen, Jr.; and brother, Robert "Bob" Horneman.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Bradley, AR, with Bro. Aaron Leggett officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing, LA. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Bradley Baptist Church, Bradley, AR.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Arkansas Baptist Childrens Home or St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Montgomery Darst , age 84, will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, November 5, 2012, in the First Baptist Church of Springhill, LA with Rev. Ronald Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery, Springhill, LA under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 04, 2012 beginning at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Darst was born on September 5, 1928 to Fowler and Carrie Strong Montgomery in Springhill, LA and passed away on November 1, 2012 in Shreveport, LA. She was a resident of Springhill, a member of First Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. Darst was a wonderful cook and enjoyed gardening. She loved her family and grandkids very much.
She is survived by three sons, Rickey Darst of Springhill, LA, Mark Darst of Springhill, LA, Todd Darst of Prairieville, LA; special nephew, Ronnie Darst of Springhill, LA; four grandchildren, Natalie McLemore and spouse, William of Haughton, LA, Leslie Byrne of Shreveport, LA, David Darst of Burleson, TX, Cody Darst of Homer, LA; step-granddaughter, Stacey Hinds of Benton, LA; sister, Twila Slack of Springhill, LA; great-niece, Gina Greenwood of Monroe, LA; great-nephew, Chad Darst of Springhill, LA; four great-grandsons, Zacharey Rushing of Haughton, LA, Braden Wallace of Shreveport, LA, Brett Leckie of Haughton, LA, Preston Darst of Burleson, TX; two great great grandsons, Landon Rushing of Haughton, LA, Corbin Lee Darst of Springhill, LA; great great-nephew, Cayden Darst of Springhill, LA; two great great nieces, Sophia Greenwood of Monroe, LA, Lily Greenwood of Monroe, LA; other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Mrs. Darst was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis "Ed" Edward Darst, brother, Roy Montgomery, brother, Earl Montgomery and sister, Maurine Dyer.
Pallbearers will be David Darst, Cody Darst, Braden Wallace, Chad Darst, William McLemore and Monty Dyer. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Charles Strong.

Gordon Andrew Ervin
March 3, 1935 - February 19, 2012
Funeral services for Gordon Andrew Ervin, age 76, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Central Baptist Church, where he was an active and faithful member, with Rev. Tim Everett officiating. Burial will be in the Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.
Visitation will be Monday evening 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home.
Mr. Ervin was born March 3, 1935 to George Andrew and Charlotte Barclay Ervin in Moberly, MO and died peacefully at his home in Springhill on Saturday, February 18, 2012. He attended the University of Missouri and became a resident of Springhill in 1958 where he became editor of the Springhill Press for several years. He left Springhill and began work with Boeing Company in Huntsville, AL as a technical writer for the Space Program. He also worked with LTV Aerospace Company in Dallas, TX as Public Relations Director. He returned to Springhill and became Executive Director for the Office of Community Services and Director of Civil Defense for Webster Parish, retiring after 30 plus years of service.
Mr. Ervin served as an usher at Central Baptist Church for many years and taught a Sunday School class for college students. He was a longtime fan of the Wabash Railroad and collected many items of railroad memorabilia throughout the years. He was a huge fan of the Springhill Lumberjack Football team; helped call the games for the radio station and was known as Flash Gordon. He enjoyed being with people and will be remembered for his sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean Gipson Ervin and daughter, Elizabeth June Barclay both of springhill, LA; son, Gregory Andrew Ervin of Houston, TX; grandson, James Heath Harvey of Springhill, LA; sisters-in-law, Wilma Ervin of Madison, AL and Kay Gipson of Springhill, LA; brother-in-law, Johnny Gipson of Springhill, LA; niece, Kay Lynn Jenkins; nephews, Norman D. Ervin, Brandon Gipson and Brian Gipson. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, William B. Ervin.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roy Spence, Jr., Ralph Whitlock, Brandon Gipson, Bill Joiner, Ken Sivils and Robert Colley. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Vercher, Johnny Barnes, Joe Harper and Calvin Craig.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Baptist Church or the American Lung Association.

Kathryn Lamb Lee
October 22, 1964 - February 24, 2011
A celebration of the life of Kathryn Ann Lamb Lee will be held at Haynesville United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 27 at 3:00pm. Officiating will be the Rev. Dave Sheehan and Rev. Jeff Willis. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 26 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Bailey Funeral Home in Haynesville. Interment will follow at Whitehall Cemetery.
Strong in her faith in the Lord and surrounded by her loving family, Kathryn died on Thursday, February 24, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born October 22, 1964 to Bobbie Ann Lamb and the late Robert Ryan Lamb, Sr.
Kathryn was a 1983 graduate of Atlanta High School, Atlanta, Texas and 1988 Graduate of Louisiana Tech University where she was a member of the Louisiana Tech Block & Bridle Club. She married Joey Lee in 1987 and was a devoted mother to their three precious daughters. Known for her special love for children, Kathryn taught Adaptive Physical Education in the Claiborne Parish School System. From 1997 to 2011, she was the Haynesville Elementary Pre-K teacher. She served as the Haynesville High School Cheerleader sponsor since 2005 and coach for the Haynesville High Lady Tors softball team since 2007.
A vibrant follower of Christ Jesus, Kathryn was a member of the Haynesville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and chaperoned numerous youth trips. She regularly took Communion to church members at Heritage Nursing Center and was actively involved with Cross Bayou Chrysalis.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Joey Lee of Haynesville; daughters, Jessica Lee Merritt and husband, Collin, Heather Nicole Lee and Candace Muriel Lee, all of Haynesville; mother, Bobbie Ann Lamb of Mount Vernon, Mo.; sister, Linda Lamb Freeland and husband, Scott of Mount Vernon, Mo.; brother, Robert Ryan Lamb and wife Emily of Columbia, La.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Leta Lee of Haynesville; sister-in-law, Connie Winn and husband, Benjie of Haynesville; nieces and nephews, Britney and Jason Winn; Stephen Freeland and wife, Kate; Sarah, Mary, Hannah, Rebekah, Daniel, Matthew and Caleb Freeland; and Brian and Anna Lamb.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Elmajian and staff, Dr. Veluvolu and staff, Dr. Mark Haynes and staff, Agape Hospice, and Lee Jones.
In lieu of flowers, it was Kathryns wish that memorials be made to K-LOVE radio station or the Haiti Initiative Fund to help support the orphanages in Haiti. Mrs. Price was born January 5, 1922 in Hall Summit, LA to Marcus Allen and Maudie Hood Owens and passed away April 29, 2012 in Springhill, LA. She was a resident of Springhill; a faithful member of Central Baptist Church having served duties in the childrens department for many years and she was also a retired school teacher of 43 years, having taught sixth grade English in Springhill. Mrs. Price loved her family, enjoyed sewing, traveling and was a member of the Good Sams Camping Club.
She is survived by her three grandchildren; Shannon Dale Strother, Kimberly Strother Owen and husband, Joseph Owen, II, Charis Margret Gates & husband, Jason Gates; son-in-law, Roy D. Strother and wife, Connie; great grandchildren, Mitch Strother and wife, Danielle, Lexi Strother, Cherae Burns, Chae Burns, Taylor Gates, Jarrott Gates, Dylan Shidiskis; step-great grandchildren, Gage Owen, Madison Owen; great great grandchild, Jaxon Gersch and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Price was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maurice Franklin Price, December 11, 2000; her daughter, Karen Jane Strother, June 7, 2004 and her two brothers and two sisters.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Gates, Joseph Owen, Chae Burns, Mitch Strother, Reagan Putman and Shelby Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dylan Shidiskis, Jarrott Gates, Tommy Owens and Peyton Moody.
