Funeral services for Mrs. Jewell Remore Lowrey, age 96, will be held Sunday, September 25, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill, LA with Rev. Jeff May officiating. Interment will follow in Union-Sadie Cemetery, Marion, LA at 4:30PM under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Family will receive friends Sunday beginning at 1:00 PM until time of service.

Mrs. Lowrey was born November 11, 1914 in Sadie, LA to Bennie and Rutha Wallace Remore and passed away September 22, 2011 in Springhill, LA. She had been a resident of Taylor, AR for the past five years and a former resident of Bastrop, LA. She was a member of White Avenue Baptist Church of Bastrop, LA and a former clerk of Ft. Bend County, Texas.

She is survived by her son, Stacy Crumley and wife, Diane of Houston, TX; daughter-in-law, Faye B. Farrar of Taylor, AR; sister-in-law, Julia Deshazo; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lowrey was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Lowrey; son, Harrell Wallace Farrar and brothers, Joseph Remore, Leo “Bennie” Remore and James A. Deshazo.

Pallbearers will be Mark Deshazo, Garland Shows, Shawn Williamson, Greg Milloway, Jonathan Ureta, Don Arrington, Blake Farrar and Marc Sposeep.

Linda Redda Waldron Garner
(December 27, 1938 - September 15, 2011)

Mrs. Linda Reeda Waldron Garner, 72, of Haynesville, passed away following a heart attack she suffered while at home on Thursday, September 15, 2011. Mrs. Garner was born in El Dorado, AR, on December 27, 1938, to Mr. and Mrs. Guy Waldron. Linda moved to Haynesville where she graduated high school with a great group of friends that she cherished for life. Following high school, Linda attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston.

Mrs. Garner met her future husband of 38 years in Dallas, TX, in 1972. She and James Garner were married in 1973 at a ceremony held in her mother’s home in Haynesville.

Linda was a very kind, patient, understanding, and caring person who never met a stranger. She loved spending time with her family, singing in the choir, and taking trips with her friends.

Mrs. Garner is survived by her husband, James Garner of Haynesville; daughter, Jennifer Fowler and husband Jay of Minden; step-son Ronald Everett Garner and Gina of Lansing, KS; brother, Jerry Waldron and wife Betty of Haynesville; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home in Haynesville on Sunday afternoon from 2-5PM.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Haynesville on Monday September 18 at 10AM officiated by Dr. Shelby Cowling.

(October 27, 1937 - September 8, 2011)

Funeral services for Mr. Eddie Ray Pickler, age 73, will be held Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill, LA with Rev. Jerry Evans officiating.

Visitation will begin Saturday at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Mr. Pickler was born October 27, 1937 in Taylor, AR to William Edward and Dorothy Elva Wilkerson Pickler and passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011 in Bradley, AR. He was a resident of Taylor, AR, a member of Taylor United Methodist Church, a member of Hughey Masonic Lodge #70 and El Karubah Shriners. Mr. Pickler was also a member of the Asbury United Methodist Motor Club and retired in 2000 from BE&K; Engineering after many successful years as a Project Manager. He was a loving husband and father with many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Knight Pickler; three daughters, Karen Pickler Barnes and husband, Thomas, Renae Wilson-Robnett and husband, Kenneth, Lesa Pickler Warren and husband, Ted; grandchildren, Alex Barnes, Colin Barnes, Chris Wilson and wife, Staci, Jay Wilson and wife, Leslie, Jennifer Warren, Broox Warren, Travis Warren & wife, Lauren, Rebekah Miller and husband, Clay; great grandchild, Korbin Wilson; sister, Mary Ann Elmore and husband, Donald; brother, George Pickler and wife, Lynda, mother-in-law, Gladys Fields Knight and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pickler was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Glenn Knight.

Billie Sue Nix Knighton
(February 8, 1935 - September 20, 2011)

Memorial services for Ms.Billie Nix Knighton, age 76, will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011, 10:00 am in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Springhill, LA with Rev. Wayne J. Johnson officiating under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Ms. Knighton was born on February 8, 1935 to Grady and Mamie Nix in Stamps, AR and passed away on September 20, 2011 in Bossier City, Louisiana . She was retired from Evergreen Community Services, loved her flowers, animals and loved to work in her yard. Mrs. Knighton was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Diana Ramsey and husband, Fred of Springhill, LA; two sons, Richard Knighton of Cotton Valley, LA, James Knighton and Lori of Cotton Valley, LA; two grandsons, Andy Ramsey of Springhill, LA, Robbie Knighton of Fort Worth, TX; four granddaughters, Chrissy Knighton of Cotton Valley, LA, Chasity Alford of Jacksonville, FL, Amanda Covington of Cotton Valley, LA, Crystal McManis of Springhill, LA and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services for Ms. Phyllis Fields Jones, age 63, will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Harmony Cemetery, Macedonia, AR with Bro. Bob Money officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Ms. Jones was born December 26, 1947 in Taylor, AR to William “Billy” Winston and Georgia Thompson Fields and passed away suddenly Thursday, September 08, 2011 in Shreveport, LA. She was a resident of Sarepta, LA, a member of the Church of Christ and employed by Timberland Truck Stop.

She is survived by her sons, Billy Hunt and wife, Lien of Linden, TX, Ross Jones of Sarepta, LA; daughter, Annette Hallonquist and husband, Neal of Pittsburg, TX; mother, Georgia Stamper of Sarepta, LA; brother, Bill Fields and wife, Gail of Sarepta, LA; sister, Brenda Darst and husband, Ronnie of Springhill, LA, Ada Davis and husband, Bo of Deer Park, TX; step-brothers, Johnny Stamper of Springhill, LA, Mike Stamper and wife, Renee’ of Lake Charles, LA; step-sister, Kathy Beaty and husband, James of Caldwell, TX; granddaughter, Holly Wall and husband, Brandon of Linden, TX; grandsons, Joe Hallonquist, Kurt Hallonquist, both of Pittsburg, TX; great grandchildren, Emily, Hannah and Andrew Wall and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Jones was preceded in death by her father and her step-father, Amos Stamper.

Sheila Dianne Wells Coyle
(January 1, 1946 - September 21, 2011)

After a long and ferocious struggle against brain cancer, Sheila Dianne Wells Coyle passed away on Wednesday, September 21st, 2011. Sheila loved this world so passionately that she was loathe to leave it, fighting back valiantly until the end. Her life was an ever widening circle of love that touched all who knew her. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Plain Dealing with the Reverend William H. Searight and Reverend Art Vance officiating. Burial will be at Cottage Grove Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Friday, September 23rd, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Plain Dealing. Sheila was born New Years Day, 1946, to Helen Malone Wells and Leroy “Punkin “ Wells. She graduated from Plain Dealing High School in 1963. After receiving her degree in education from Northwestern State University, Sheila began a rewarding career as an elementary school teacher in Caddo and Bossier Parishes. In 1966, she married her childhood sweetheart, Charles Graves “Gravy” Coyle. After the birth of their son Charlie, Sheila and Gravy moved to the Strayhan ancestral home place in the Brushy community south of Plain Dealing. Together with Charlie and their daughter Maggie, Gravy and Sheila built a wonderful home full of love and beauty. Sheila was blessed with many varied gifts. She was a wonderful teacher. She taught for 26 years, touching the lives of numerous children and sometimes their children. She retired in 1999. She loved her church and served her denomination on the local, regional and national levels. She was a member of Cottage Grove Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder. Sheila also served on many Presbytery committees, she served a term as Moderator of the Presbytery of the Pines, and was honored to be chosen as a delegate to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA and to serve for several years on the national General Assembly Council. She was a gifted artist, loved interior decorating and landscape gardening. She was also a gourmet cook, renowned for her gumbo suppers at the camp on Thanksgiving weekends and her elegant annual Christmas dinner parties. She was an excellent bridge player and relished the challenge of working the most difficult of New York Times Crossword Puzzles. A lover of literature, she was a founding member of the Reading Women Book Club of Plain Dealing. A country woman at heart, Sheila savored every sunrise, every phase of the moon, and every subtle change of the season. She loved to laugh and have fun but also treasured long and intimate conversations. Although Sheila was quiet and unpretentious, she drew people to her because of her capacity for compassion and the rare depth of her understanding heart. We honor her memory by giving back the love she gave, so that her legacy will shine in the lives of those she loved as the circle goes on and on. Sheila’s family would like to thank all those whose prayers and presence provided so much consolation to her during the long months of her illness: the community of the Presbyterian Churches of Plain Dealing; to all the friends from far and near who were there for Sheila; to Meece Henderson; the staff of Christus Schumpurt, Dubuis, MD Anderson, and Grace Home in Shreveport. Blest be the tie that binds. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Punkin Wells. She is survived by her husband Charles Graves Coyle, her son Charles Graves Coyle III (Charlie) and wife Julie, of Shreveport; daughter Maggie Coyle Tufail and husband Amer Tufail of New Orleans; grandchildren; Reza Tufail, Laith Tufail, and Taj Tufail of New Orleans; Jackson Scott Coyle and Mary Helen Coyle of Shreveport. She is also survived by one sister, Teresa Wells Doss; three “soul” sisters, Debbie Digilormo, Sara Brackman, and closest friend Kitty Coyle; three devoted brothers in law, Howard Doss, Glenn Brackman, Sr. and Hugh Scott Coyle; three nieces, Paige Culpepper and husband Matt, of Bossier City; Cathy May and husband Mike of Bradley, Arkansas; and Laney Brackman of Little Rock; two nephews, Kyle Bacot and wife Melissa of Bossier City and Glenn Brackman, Jr. of Plain Dealing; and Aunt Geneva Hilburn of Lafayette, La; several great nieces and nephews and cousins all of whom cherished and were cherished by Sheila. Serving as Pallbearers for Sheila are Glenn Brackman, Sr., Howard Doss, Tommy Wells, David Kelly, Steve Brandao and Brad Powell. Parey Pershing Branton
(November 17, 1918 - September 15, 2011)

Funeral services for Parey P. Branton, age 92, will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 18, 2011 in Mt. Paren Baptist Church with Dr. Johnie Adkins and Rev. Charles Garner officiating. Burial will be in the Union Springs Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will begin Saturday at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Mr. Branton, a native and lifelong resident of this area died Thursday, September 15, 2011 in Shreveport, LA. He was born on November 17, 1918, the first child of Marion M. and Addie Mae Martin Branton of Shongaloo, LA. He grew up on the family farm just one mile southwest of the community center.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Georgia Lusby Branton; two sons, Daniel Miles Branton and wife, Renee’ of Ruston, LA, Parey Pershing Branton, Jr. of Shongaloo; brother, Harold M. Branton and wife, Elsie B. Branton of New Caney, TX; sister, Mutelle B. Thompson of Springhill, LA; grandchildren, Carson and Scarlett Branton; nephew, Jack Crace and wife, Emily of Shreveport; nieces, Ann Branton, Karen B. Freeman, Gail B. Holder, Barbara Jo Murray, Patricia C. Turner and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy B. Patton.

Mr. Branton received his early education at Shongaloo High School, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge and University of Texas, in Austin, Texas. He volunteered for service at the commencement of World War II with the United States Signal Corps. His first duty assignment was a special school in advanced radar, enemy air planes and ships at sea. While in the Signal Corps school in Avon, KY, he met and married the love of his life, Georgia P. Lusby. Upon completion of his studies, the two traveled to the west coast to join the Signal Corps Pacific Coast Watch Team.

After World War II, Mr. Branton obtained employment with the American Airlines Company in El Paso, TX. In 1948, he was promoted to Sales Operations for the company in San Francisco and Los Angeles as well as his home office in El Paso. In 1951 he was obliged to return to the family farm in Shongaloo. Later in the year, Mr. Branton, deciding to remain at the farm, took the position as Assistant Personnel Manager and Employee Payroll Accounting with International Paper Company in Springhill, LA.

Being forever public minded, he served on the Webster Parish School Board during 1952 to 1958, as a member, vice president and, finally President of the Board. In all of these positions, he pressed consistently for excellence in the classroom and efficiency in budget management and in public property maintenance.

Mr. Branton will long be remembered for his diligent services as LA State Representative, representing Webster Parish from 1960 to 1972. During his tenure, he served on several legislative committees.– Appropriations Committee; Judiciary “D” Obligations and Services Committee; Wild Life and Fisheries; Transportation and Highways; Chairman of the State Retirement Committee and, Public Education Committee. In addition, he sponsored legislation addressing Federal Aid Programs for the State of Louisiana and all Police Jury legislation. His emphasis in these challenging work assignments was honesty and fairness for all parties.

Serving as mayor of Shongaloo, his hometown, Mr. Branton always said, was his most enjoyable endeavor. During the period of 1960 to 1972, he was successful in building a town civic center, which is today the meeting place of choice for practically all Shongaloo civic functions. Mr. Branton retired from public service in 1990.

Throughout his life Mr. Branton was an active member and served as deacon of Mt. Paren Baptist Church. While he continued to work on the farm, he also became active as an oil and gas lease broker . He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. During his lifetime, he consistently viewed the future with highest hopes and optimism.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jack Crace, Ronny Martin, Dan Festervan, Randy Frye, John Ward Woodson and Steve Freeman. Honorary pallbearers will be Ural Cox, Rodney Martin, C.C. “Cat” Cox, Doug Black and Grover Washington.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alan J. Borne and Dr. Stuart Blum for the many years of care of our loved one.

For the way you always cared, for the good times we’ve shared. For the lessons you have taught, for the happiness you brought, we, your family, will never stop loving you.
