Patrick Richardson
November 30, 1928- August 30, 2013
Patrick Doyle Richardson, 84, of DeRidder, passed from this life on Friday, August 30, 2013. Mr. Richardson served in the U.S. Army for 16 years and was a POW in Korea. He received the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He worked for the DeRidder Police Dept. and then for the DeRidder Sheriff’s Dept. for 16 years as a deputy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gerayne “Gerry” Richardson of DeRidder; sons, Todd Richardson and wife Patti of DeRidder, and Alan “Bird”Richardson and wife Sharon of Rosepine; daughter, Pam Miller and husband Steve of DeRidder; brothers, Stanley Richardson and wife Carol of Ridge Farm, IL, and Tommy Richardson of St. Louis, MO; sister, Jane Ann Bushong and husband Walter of Manchester, IL; grandchildren, Ginger Kemp of DeRidder, Damon Miller of DeRidder, J.P. Miller of Wilmington, DE, Mark Lewis of Morrilton, AR, Ty Richardson of Rosepine, Jessie Richardson of Rosepine and Kandyce Richardson; and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pleasant and Cliffie Richardson, daughter, Donna Marie Richardson, and brothers, Myron and Jimmy Richardson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 10:00am until 11:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Smyrna cemetery in Sugartown, LA. Rev. Gary Bankson and Rev. Johnny Johnson will officiate.

Rev. Bradley Swire and Rev. Steven Zumalt will officiate.

LeRay Whiddon, 85 of DeRidder, La, passed from this life on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in Athens, TX. Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Dennis Whiddon and wife Opal of Mabank, TX; sisters, Mabel Mattingly of Grapevine, TX and Betty Jo Alexander of Payne Springs, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 10:00am at Cooper cemetery in DeRidder, LA
Gerald Leroy"Jerry" Shilts
July 8, 1936 - August 25, 2013
Rev. Gerald LeRoy “Jerry” Shilts, 77, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Sunday, August 25, 2013. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 20 years, Conchita Shilts of DeRidder, and a host of loving family and friends. Bro. Shilts was the steel guitar player for the “Friends of the Family” gospel group. The guitar, steel and dobro were among his favorite instruments to play. His passion was missionaries and missions. One of his hobbies was piloting his own plane. He worked in a variety of occupations, including as a logger in both Wisconsin, where he was born and raised, and on the West Coast. He worked on the Hoover Dam, on the microwave towers for the Olympics in Seoul, South Korea and retired as a member of the Boilermakers Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Everett Shilts, Sr., and Veronica Shilts.
Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the Longville Pentecostal Church, 748 Longville Church Road, Longville. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the church. Rev. Larry Talent and Rev Marvin Hicks will co-officiate, with interment to follow in the Barrentine cemetery on Memorial Church Road.

Thearda Rose Dowden, 44, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in Lake Charles, LA. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dale Dowden of DeRidder, LA; sons, Steve Aaron Phillips and Shawn Alan Phillips of Alabama; daughter, Tiffany Rochelle Phillips of Alabama; brothers, Jimmy Jenkins of DeRidder, LA, Johnny Jenkins of DeRidder, LA, L.B. Jenkins of McNary, LA and Jack Jenkins of Montgomery, LA; sisters, Brenda Ramsey of Gardner, LA, Lois Norman of Gardner, LA, Charlotte Rose of Cotile Lake, LA and Mary Jane Jenkins of DeRidder, LA; and 2 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Mary Jenkins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Spring Creek Baptist Church in Bundick Lake, beginning at 1:30pm until the time of funeral service on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Holly Springs cemetery in Ft. Polk, LA. Rev. Dalton Isbell will officiate.

James W. "Slim Jim" Burge, 63, passed from this life on Friday, August 23, 2013 in Lake Charles. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Michael Burge and wife Serena of DeRidder, LA; daughter, Lisa Burge of DeQuincy, LA; stepsons, Lewis Stains of Missouri, Ernest "DohDoh" Stains of DeQuincy, LA and Wayne Stains of Lake Charles, LA; stepdaughter, Lee Anna "Sookie" Stains of Slidell, LA; brothers, Anthony Burge and wife Benita of Singer, LA and Doug Burge of Rosepine, LA; sisters, Mary Hyatt and husband Donald of Singer, LA and Louise Cooley and husband Gene of Rosepine, LA; grandchildren, James Burge and wife Renee, Lori Burge, Darren, Shaylen and Eagan Henderson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Burge; parents, Lloyd and Lou Burge; and brother, Erwin Burge. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 3:00pm at Pentecostal House of Praise in DeQuincy, LA. Rev. Anthony Kennon will officiate.
Ly Licare-Johnston
January 15, 1973 - August 17, 2013
Ly Licare-Johnston, 40, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday August 17, 2013. She was the beloved wife of Craig Johnston of Baton Rouge, and the daughter of Michael and Kim Licare of DeRidder.
Ly was born in Long Binh, Vietnam on January 15, 1973 and grew up on military bases around the world including Belgium, Missouri, Germany, Louisiana and Korea. She was a graduate of Leesville High School and went on to attend college at ULL and Northwestern State University. Ly worked as a Nurse and Pharmacy Technician in both Baton Rouge and DeRidder.
Ly was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and sister. She is survived by her son Matthew Licare of DeRidder, brother, Tony Licare and wife Jackie of Dallas, TX, and her step children Shjon and Sena Johnston of Baton Rouge, LA. Ly also leaves behind her beloved niece and nephew Taylor and Andrew, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
A memorial celebration of Ly’s life will take place on Thursday, August 22nd, 2013 at 3 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, Louisiana. Flowers can be sent directly there, or donations can be made to Sister Dulce Foundation, 17560 George O’Neal Rd., Baton Rouge LA 70817.
Robbie Lee Frazier Manuel

Robbie Lee Ruth (Frazier) Manuel, 86, of DeQuincy, LA passed from this life on Sunday August 18, 2013. Proverbs 31:10 & 28. Robbie was born on January 14, 1927, to the late William H. and Mary M. (White) Frazier of DeQuincy.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 68 years, Raymond J. Manuel of DeQuincy; daughter, Anna Royer and husband Calvin of DeQuincy; sons, Raymond Wallace and wife Lana, Rev. Terry Lynn and wife Patsy, Gary Gene and wife Linda, all of DeQuincy and Timothy Paul and wife Lisa of Vidor, TX; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; sisters, Mary (Bug) Frazier, and Lou Alice Royer and husband Hollie; brothers, Hershel Frazier and wife Ruby, and John Elton Frazier; sister-in-law, Ruby Frazier. She was preceeded in death by her son, Raymond Jr.; parents, and brothers, Kenneth and Edward Frazier.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 5:00pm, Tuesday, August 20, 2013 for family, with open visitation from 5:00pm until 10:00pm at First United Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy. Visitation will continue from 9:00am until 11:00am with funeral services beginning at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at First United Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy. Burial will follow at Rigmaiden cemetery in DeQuincy. Pastor Carlton Jackson and Rev. T.D. Cardwell will officiate. Funeral services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.

Lloyd Polk, 90, of DeRidder, La, passed from this life on Monday, August 12, 2013. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Rod Polk and wife Bena of DeRidder, LA.

L.C. Williams
August 30, 1920 - August 3, 2013
L.C. Williams, 92, of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Saturday, August 3, 2013 in Jennings, LA. L.C. was born in Merryville on August 30, 1920 to The Reverend Jack and Mrs. Mollie Tolbert Williams. He was "The Baby" of the Williams. Shortly after L.C.'s birth, his father was killed by lightning.
Research is in progress to determine if L.C. was the longest living Sickle Cell Anemia patient.
He accepted Christ at an early age. He served in the former Sweet Home Baptist Church in Merryville. Later in life, L. C. attended worship services in the United Pentecostal Church, DeRidder, and worship services in the Southwest Louisiana Veterans' Home in Jennings, LA. In the last year, Louis Guy, I of Mt Canaan Baptist Church served as his pastor.
L. C. began working at the age of nine. He and an older brother Sammy answered the Draft Call to serve in World War II in 1943.
PFC L.C. Williams was assigned to A Co. 1868th ENG AV BN.
He was a proud WWII Veteran from 1943 through 1946 in the United States Army. Several of his assignments were with the U.S. Air Corp., which allowed him to train with some Tuskegee Airmen in Tuskegee, Alabama. He proudly served his country abroad and in the states. His extensive travels carried him to various parts of the world. L. C. found his brother Sammy, who had been killed in a foxhole in Italy during the WWII conflict. L. C. was an expert marksman, mason, cook, and a featherweight boxer. He received numerous medals for his service; the American Theater, the Asiatic Pacific Theater, Good Conduct L. C.'s marksmanship and dedication allowed him to be one of the few African-Americans to serve on various battlefronts with soldiers of different races.
L.C. had numerous occupations; but his main one was as a school bus driver for 25 years, during the era when bus drivers purchased their own school buses, insurance, and personally kept up the maintenance. During the segregation era, L.C. transported children from Bancroft, Merryville, and parts of DeRidder to Carver High School in DeRidder. After returning the non-athletes to their homes in those three communities after school, he would return to Carver from Bancroft for the games to transport those students home in Merryville and Bancroft at night. He was the first African- American school bus driver for Merryville High School.
Because of L.C. & his wife Myrtle's dedicated community service, a park was designated and named in their honor, in Merryville, Louisiana.
On August 6, 2010, L.C. Williams was issued a proclamation that designated him as The Honorary Mayor of the Town of Merryville. He was also honored for his service to the Bancroft Community by the Friendship Baptist Church, Bancroft Louisiana.
Preceding him in death are his wife-- Mrs. Myrtle Elizabeth Hamilton Shade Williams and one son who died immediately after birth. His parents: Jack Williams, Minister and Mrs. Mollie Tolbert Williams Palmer; Stepfather-- Thomas "Tom" Palmer; His brothers: Willie, Samuel "Sammy" Williams, I.C. Williams, and James Columbus (J.C.) Palmer. L. C.'s sisters: Silk Williams, Alberta Palmer Smith; and Sweetie Bell Palmer; nieces who were nurtured in his home: Doris Ann and Mae Audrey Smith. Deceased nephews whom he assisted in care: Lindsey Palmer and Jimmy Williams (Silsbee, TX)
L. C. leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter, Loretha Cecilia Williams (DeRidder, LA); Nephews and nieces who were nurtured in his home: Roger Taylor (Roxie) Lake Charles, LA; Minister Shelton Smith, DD, PhD., Ret. Msgt/USAF (Kimberly) Aurora, CO; Keith and Sonya Smith ( Beaumont, TX); others whom he assisted in nurturing: Carl L. Williams, Sr. , Joyce Williams Turner (Silsbee, TX ), Jean Hudson Scott (Lutcher, LA), Ester Williams (Clarksville, TN), and a host of relatives, acquaintances, and friends.
