Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kimberly Acker of DeRidder, LA; mother, Beatrice Acker of DeRidder, LA; brothers, Ronald Acker and wife Marie of Monroe, LA and Harold Eugene Porter and wife Diane of DeRidder, LA; sister, Patricia Lowery of Leesville, LA; grandchildren, Keosia S. Acker, Keasia N. Acker and Lopez L Bryant, Jr. She was preceded in death by her father, Sammy Acker; sister, Gloria Armstead; aunt, Bertha Hargrove; and nephew, Derrick Herron.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Starlight Missionary Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will be from 9:00am until 11:00am with funeral services beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Starlight cemetery. Rev. Daniel Stafford will officiate.

Billy Matthis
February 8, 1946 - September 19, 2013
Billy Glen Matthis, 67, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, September 19, 2013 in Lake Charles. Mr. Matthis was a member of American Legion Post 27 in DeRidder. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandra Matthis of Merryville, LA; sons, William James Matthis and wife Janet of DeRidder, LA and Andrew Edward Matthis of Monroe, LA; daughters, Kimberly Vodicka and husband David of DeRidder, LA and LeighAnn Michelle Matthis of Merryville, LA; brothers, Kenneth David Matthis and wife Wanda, Shelton Edmund Matthis and Samuel Matthis and wife Judy all of Merryville, LA; sister, Lola Mae Morrison of Merryville, LA; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ada Matthis; sister, Anna Belle Moses; brothers, Autwan Matthis and Frank T. Collins.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cooper cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Bro. Jim Miers will officiate.

Herman Carnley

Herman Carnley, 89, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at his home. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Rodney Carnley and wife Sandra of Valrico, FL; daughters, Kathy Deason and husband Jimmy of DeRidder, LA and Joan Jordan of DeRidder, LA; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Lula Carnley.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Bro. Roger Jeans will officiate.

Gilbert Ortego, Jr., 53, born August 2, 1960 in Orange, TX, passed away on September 17, 2013 at Lufkin Memorial Hospital in Lufkin, TX. He is survived by his daughter, Angela Ortego Walden and husband Jason of Ooluguh, OK; sons, Adam Ortego of Houston, TX and Clinton Ray Ortego of Covington, LA; parents, Gilbert and Audrey Ortego of Denham Springs, LA; brother, Roger Ortego of Newton, TX; sisters, Lisa Ortego Burr and husband Richard of Merryville, LA, Denise Ortego Yeard and husband Rae of Dubach, LA, Glenda Ortego Bowman of Wilburton, OK, Annacee Ortego Hull and husband Shannon of Denham Springs, LA, Renate Ortego McDaniels and husband Donald of Merryville, LA; grandchildren, Jason Walden and Katlynn Walden both of Oologuh, OK.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Pitkin, LA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 3:00pm at Mr. Olive Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Blue Branch cemetery in Pitkin.

Funeral services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. In lieu of flowers, please give any donations to Lisa Burr.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Lewis; grandmother, Mama Mary Turner; brother, Charles Harris; grandfather, Daddy James Turner, and great grandfather, Hezekiah McClendon.

Visitation will be Friday, September 27, 2013 from 10:00am until 11:00am with funeral services beginning at 11:00am at Grace Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder. Pastor George L. Glass will officiate.

Susie Guy
December 23, 1937 - September 14, 2013
I will lift up mine eyes to the hills from which cometh my help, my help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2

Susie M. Wilson Guy departed this life at Beauregard Memorial Hospital, Saturday, September 14, 2013. Susie is the third child of six born to Pastor E.L. Wilson and Sis. Gracie N. Wilson. She was born in Rayne, Louisiana, December 23, 1937. Susie is a graduate of Acadia Parish Training School. She also has studies in the DeRidder Branch of the United Theological Seminary and Post Graduate School of Nursing of Chicago, Il. She worked at U.S. Army Hospital as a Health Care Provider for many years. In the community she has served as school volunteer, substitute teacher, Title I volunteer, Tutor, Volunteer with Mayor’s Youth Council and Beauregard Parish Pupil Progression Plan, Band Booster Parent and chaperone and God’s Food Box volunteer.

Susie accepted Christ at an early age. She met and fell in love with Pastor Louis F. Guy I, they united in marriage, April 20, 1968. They have six adult sons and two adult daughters.
She worked for the Lord along with her husband who cherished her highly, as a faithful help meet (mate) over thirty nine years. She served in Mt. Canaan Baptist Church faithfully as, Mission President, Deaconess, Primary Sunday School Teacher, Senior Choir, Vacation Bible School. She loved singing and would often remind us, “may the Work I’ve Done Speak For Me.” She served faithful until her death in Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, New Light District, the community, and wherever the need was with the motto: “If I can help somebody to accept Christ as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain.”

Susie is preceded in death by her father, Pastor E.L. Wilson, mother, Sis. Gracie N. Wilson, brothers: Lerue, Leroy, and Edward.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, Pastor Louis F. Guy I, six sons, Edwin (Rhudene) of Dallas, Mark (Carolyn) of Opelousas, The Min. Louis II (Karen) of Lake Charles, Min. Reginald Sr. of Arlington, Min. Robert of Dallas, Michael of Lake Charles, two daughters, Minister Portia of Natchitoches, Regina of Shreveport, fourteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother, Billy Wilson of DeRidder, one sister, Dr. Shirley Wilson Francois of Dallas, Georgia, one brother-in-law, Thomas Guy of DeRidder, two devoted uncles, The Rev. Cosey Gage (Virgie) of Rayne, Alfred Nickson (Grace) of Beaumont and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00am at Grace Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder. Repast will be at Mt. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 5:00pm until time of service on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10:00am at Cherry Grove Baptist Church in Mittie, LA. Burial will follow at Simmons cemetery in Mittie, LA. Rev. J.R. Dowden and Bro. Ron Butler will officiate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Webster Lambert and Dezzie (Austin) Lambert, brothers, J.D.
