Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Quinetta Humphries and Malletta Humphries of DeRidder, LA; father, Rufus Piper of DeRidder, LA; brothers, Alphonso Piper and wife Deon of Savannah, GA, Rufus Piper, Jr. and wife Priscilla of Zachary, LA and Isaiah Piper of DeRidder, LA; sisters, A. Isler and husband Ricky of DeRidder, LA and Vicky Simmons and husband Tony of Bonaire, GA and close friend, Diane Palmer of DeRidder, LA. She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Mae Piper; grandmother, Evelina Scott and son, Thaddeus Piper.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11:00 am at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Community cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Rev. George Harris will officiate.

Robert “Bob” Myers, 71 of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Monday, January 7, 2013. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Robert Myers, Jr. and wife Becky of Russell, Kentucky and Jackie Freeman and wife Peggy of Kirbyville, Texas; daughters, Rhonda Nichols and husband Stormy of Call, Texas and Tonya Royer and husband Paul of DeQuincy, Louisiana; sisters, Mildred McDonald of DeRidder, Louisiana, Jackie Womack and husband Bill of Merryville, Louisiana and Wanda Keel and husband Burt of DeRidder, Louisiana; grandchildren, Justin Nichols and wife Casey, Brittany Nichols, Shelby Royer, Jon Royer, Lathyn Myers, Valerie Freeman and Jackie Lynn Freeman; 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Ami Myers, brother, D.T. Myers and sister, Lou Edna Thompson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Merryville cemetery in Merryville, LA. Bro. Carlton Jackson and Bro. Danny Bentson will officiate.

David Leon Gibson, 77 of Kyle, TX passed from this life on Thursday, January 3, 2013. Mr. Gibson will be remembered for his sense of humor and telling funny jokes. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January, 9, 2013 at 12:00pm noon also at Calvary Apostolic Church in Starks, LA. Burial will follow at Fountain cemetery in Starks. Rev. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Margaret Droddy; three brothers, Ernest Droddy Jr., Douglas Droddy and Earl Ray Droddy.

Morrill Alston Sr.

Morrill Glenn Alston, Sr., 71 of Singer, LA entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in DeRidder, LA. Morrill was born in Singer, LA to the late Clayburn and Odie Miers Alston. He attended Singer High School and married
Venita Doescher. Morrill worked for Jones Tractor in DeRidder and then worked for Brown & Root in Valliant, OK. He retired from Boise Cascade in July, 2007, after over 30 years as a mechanic and was a member of USW Union, Local 1226. Morrill was a cattleman and enjoyed taking care of his cattle, he loved telling stories, planting his garden and visiting with friends. He also enjoyed using his smokehouse. He was a true giving person and was a big supporter of the Singer Hornets. Morrill was a member of Singer Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Venita Doescher Alston of Singer, LA; daughter, Tammi Hanchey and husband Bret of DeRidder, LA; son, Morrell Alston, Jr. and wife Janet of DeRidder, LA; sisters, Arlene Cornwell of Merryville, LA, Bobbie Spivey and husband Ron of DeRidder, La; brother, Jack Alston and wife Joyce of Singer, LA; grandchildren, Myles Hanchey, Landry and Clinton Willis and Leah Alston all of DeRidder, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayburn and Odie Miers Alston and brothers, Norris, Don and Alvin Alston.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA from 4:00pm until 9:00pm. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Newlin cemetery in Singer, LA at 10:00am. Rev. Jerome Hayes will officiate. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to SouthernCare and DeRidder Retirement and Rehabilitation Center for their support in his final days.

Virgie Rae DeVore, 85, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, October 24, 2013 in DeRidder, LA. Mrs. DeVore was a member and Sunday School teacher at Calvary Baptist Church in Merryville, LA. She served her community through her church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Janet Nichols and husband Charles, and Paula Walker and husband Curtis “Red” all of Merryville, LA; sister, Eloise Thompson of Orange, TX; grandchildren, Steven Nichols and wife Marla, Keith Nichols, Rebecca Anderson, Amanda Vaughn and husband Grant; and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Howard DeVore; parents, Johnny and Virgie Ruth Marze; sister, Mae Eaves; brothers, Gilbert David Marze and Johnny Marze, Jr.
