Sidney Ray Cole, 83, of Pitkin, LA, passed from this life on Friday, May 10, 2013 in Leesville, LA. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Thomas Benton Cole and wife Janice of Pitkin, LA, Terry G. Cole and wife Debra of Winona, TX and Bruce Cole and wife Lisa of Lake Charles, LA; sister, Betty Cathy of Sugarland, TX; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Cole.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2013 from 4:00pm until 9:00pm at First Baptist Church in Pitkin, LA. Funeral services will be on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 4:30pm also First Baptist Church in Pitkin. Burial will follow at Blue Branch cemetery in Pitkin, LA. Rev. Brian Thurman will officiate.

Ann Stains
April 24, 1949 - May 9, 2013

Ann Stains, 64, of Starks, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at her home. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, James Willis Stains of Starks, LA; sons, Douglas (Dougie) Buster of Archer, FL, Glenn Stains and wife Andrea of DeQuincy, LA, Carroll Stains and wife Cindy of Alexandria, LA, Luther Stains of Westlake, LA and Jack Stains and wife Janice of Lake Charles, LA; daughters, Gloria Butler and husband Mark of Trenton, FL, Phyllis Buster of Fort White, FL, Kimberly Ruggles of Gainesville, FL and Carolyn Langley and husband Patrick of DeQuincy, LA; brothers, Clifton Tubbs, Rodney Tubbs of Deweyville, TX, Lester "Woody" Tubbs and wife Jean of Starks, La and Ruby "Curly" Tubbs of Starks, LA; sister, Shirley; 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 at Calvary Apostolic Church in Starks, LA from 11:00am until 9:00pm. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 2:00pm at the church. Burial will follow at Hyatt cemetery in Fields, LA. Bro. Jeremy Shields will officiate.

John White, Sr.
July 12, 1955 - May 7, 2013
John Wayne White, Sr., 57, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in Lake Charles, LA. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, John White, Jr. and wife Misty of Lucedale, MS and Roy Clinton White of St. Charles, MO; daughter, Amanda Willis of Oberlin, LA; brothers, Raymond White and wife Jan of DeRidder, LA, Ricky Whittington, Sr. and wife Darla of Rosepine, LA and Herbert Whittington and wife Gwen of Rosepine, LA; sisters, Glenda Cantrell and husband Bernell, Brenda DeSantis and Gayla Vaga all of Rosepine, LA; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 2:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be Friday, May 10, 2013 at 2:00pm, also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Whitaker cemetery in DeRidder, LA. John White, Jr. and Dalton Isbell will officiate.

Versie Beeson Durham
March 3, 1915 - May 3, 2013
Versie Beeson Durham, born on March 3, 1915, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Carpenter House Hospice Center in Baton Rouge. Versie retired from Bunny Bread in DeRidder and has been living with her granddaughter before her death at the age of 98.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Macie Durham; son, Gerald McDonald; parents, George Beeson and Annie Beeson Miller; siblings, Ernest Beeson, Vera Johnson and Earl Beeson; and great-great granddaughter, Patricia Dees.

She is survived by four grandchildren, Terry Hall, Donna Dees, Traci Roberts, all of Denham Springs, LA, and Jerry McDonald of DeRidder; eight great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

Visitation and funeral service will be held at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, on Monday, May 6, 2013, with visitation beginning at 9:00am until time of funeral service at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Blue Branch cemetery in Pitkin, LA. Bro. Lyndon Longoria will officiate.

Margaret Goins
February 16, 1932 - May 1, 2013

Margaret Goins, 81, of Leesville, LA passed from this life on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Margaret was a longtime member of First Assembly of God Church in Leesville, LA and loved serving her church. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Eddie Goins and wife Charlotte of Rosepine, LA; daughters, Judy Tilley and husband Rodney of Van Horn, TX, and Marcia LeMaire and husband Tommy of Rosepine, LA; sister, Lerlie Williams and husband J.C. of Houston, TX; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Goins; son, Randal Goins; parents, Levi and Verna Henry; sister, Geneva Hickman and brothers, Newton and Billy Henry.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 1:00pm at First Assembly of God in Leesville, LA. Burial will follow at New Cypress cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Virginia Griffith
May 19, 1930 - April 29, 2013
Virginia Mae Griffith, 82, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Monday, April 29, 2013. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Robert Griffith and wife Virginia Maria of DeRidder; grandchildren, Jeffrey Robert Griffith of DeRidder and Kelly Anderson and husband Stephen of Bella Vista, AR; great grandchildren, David Allen Anderson of Ft. Benning, GA and Kayce Dianne Griffith of Rosepine, LA. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ola Fagle McKenzie; father, Tom E. McKenzie; brothers, Calvin, Boyce and Tommy McKenzie; sister, Ruby Wilson. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 12:00pm at Bilbo Church of Christ in DeRidder, LA. Rev. Jay Alexander will officiate.

Alton Ferguson
August 9, 1944 - April 28, 2013
Alton Earl Ferguson, 68, of Sulphur, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, April 28, 2013. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Paul Ferguson and wife Sasha of Sulphur, LA; daughter, Sharon Ferguson of Pearland, TX; sisters, Pat Helms of Vidor, TX and Charlene Hamms of Spring, TX; grandchildren, Layla Ferguson, Xavier Ferguson, Nikolas Ferguson and Forge Earls. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Ocie Ferguson; brothers, M.T., Billy and Leroy Ferguson; sister, Christine Terry and his Pastor and his wife, Bro. and Sis. Kimball.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 5:00pm until 10:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 11:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Merryville cemetery in Merryville, LA. Rev. Mike Helms will officiate.

Emily Ann Keel, (Ms. Emily) 65, of Rosepine, LA, died on April 27, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Ms. Emily was born in Tyler, Texas on October 12, 1947 to the late Urban & Ina Hill.

Ms. Emily worked at Rosepine High School Cafeteria for years. Her love for cooking inspired her to start a business in 1996. “Mrs. Emily’s” in Rosepine, LA has been a thriving success for over 16 years. Her legacy will continue on with her daughter, Tiffany and longtime employee Leann Smith. Her proudest achievements as a business owner were being featured twice in the Lake Charles American Press, and winning small business of the year as a member of the Greater Beauregard Chamber of Commerce. Of course, her customers and the community will remember her smile, her outstanding customer appreciation, and her generosity. Her heart was always with those in need of comfort. Endlessly, she would give meals to the elderly, to those with sickness, and to the families of those that lost a loved one. She was dedicated to providing food twice a week to the local soup kitchen, as well as, the AGAPE Clinic. The Lord surely told her, “Well done thy good and faithful servant!”

Those left to cherish her memory, are her son, Todd Keel and Wife Tori of Rosepine, LA; daughters, Tiffany Keel of Rosepine, LA, Cala Crocker and husband Larry of DeRidder, LA, Candis Turner and husband Nick of Gulf Port, MS; sister, Faye Wardlaw of Mansfield, LA; brothers, Glen Hill and wife Kim of Huffman, TX, Roger Hill of Kilgore, TX; 6 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.

Ms. Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Marlon Keel; parents, Urban and Ina Hill; and brother, David Hill.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 10:00am at Old Cypress cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Ms. Emily’s charities of choice are Soul Soup of DeRidder and Gideons International.

Fausto Meurer
March 17, 1970 - April 25, 2013
Fausto Mario Meurer, 43, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Thursday, April 25, 2013. Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, William and Norma Meurer of Grand Junction, CO; son, Eric Gurule of Denver, CO; daughter, Pharoe Meurer of Denver, CO; sisters, Nomy of La Mesa, CA and Aneris Green and husband Brant of DeRidder, LA; aunts, Angelina Longoria of El Cajon, CA, Ana A. Serna of Salt Lake City, UT and Maria Padilla and husband Eduardo Reuzga of La Mesa, CA; fiancée, Charlotte Bailey of DeRidder, LA; niece, Briley Green and nephews, Ryan Flinn and Trevor Putnam. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Maria Lopez; grandfather, Odilon Lopez and uncle, Francisco Serna.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm and also on Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA, with a memorial service beginning at 3:00pm on Sunday. Rev. Jimmy Glass and Rev. George Lee Glass will officiate.

Steven Carl Darrah
January 13, 1953 - April 25, 2013
Steven Carl Darrah, 60, of DeRidder, LA, died on April 25, 2013 after a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Steven was born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin on January 13, 1953 to the late Carl Herbert and Leone Julia (Klefstad) Darrah. He lived in northern Wisconsin until age 12 when his family moved to Sheboygan, WI and Steven graduated from South High School in June 1971.

He served in the US Air Force from 1971 – 1973 before attending the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he earned a BS in Chemical Engineering in May, 1981.

Steven then worked in various positions in the chemical engineering field while serving his country in the National Guard and then the US Army Reserve as an engineer officer. Steven was awarded a direct commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers in August 1983. His duties as an Army Reserve engineer officer took him around the world on various projects in locations such as Europe, Cyprus, Egypt, Belize, Honduras, South Korea, Hawaii and the South Pacific. He served two tours on active duty after 9/11, including a tour in Kuwait and Iraq at the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. He retired from the US Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel in March 2007. Steven had been employed with the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Department since June 2008 and served as bailiff to Judge O’Neal at the time of his passing.

Steven is survived by his wife, Deborah; daughter, Suzanne Darrah Maltezos and husband Ilias of West Allis, WI; son, Paul Darrah and wife Tammy of DeRidder, LA as well as a step daughter, Sarah Rich McCoy and husband Gabriel of San Diego, CA. He is survived by a grandson, Jaycob Logan Darrah, 11, of DeRidder, LA and a grandson, Maximos Ilias Scott Maltezos, 4 of West Allis, WI. He is also survived by a brother, Brooks, of Chicago, IL, and sisters, Brenda Darrah Markelz of Sheboygan, WI and Carla Darrah of Sheboygan Falls, WI as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, and youngest brother, Scott Bradley Darrah.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 2:00pm at New Life Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA, with Lynn Clayton and Bro. Roger Gill officiating. A private service and inurnment for the family will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s cemetery at Union Grove, WI.

In lieu of floral arrangements, the family requests that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at 1500 Rosecrans Ave. Suite 200 Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 or at pancan.org.

Steven’s family would like to offer a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Harbor Hospice of Oakdale, LA and their excellent assistance during his infirmity and time of need.
