Charles Edward (Charlie) Hudson, 69, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on February 23, 2017.
A devout Christian who was proud to have served his country, he loved deeply and lived life fully. He never met a stranger and cherised the moments he had with his family and friends. He was honored to serve his community as Mayor and School Board Member.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Myrtis Hudson of Merryville, LA; son, Charles Hudson, Jr. & Jana of Ragley, LA; daughters, Tara Hudson of Sheridan, AR, Gina McDaniel of Benton, AR and Kimberly Cline & Jason of Lumberton, TX; brother, Troy Hudson & Rita of Merryville, LA; sisters, Betty Merchant of Brewton, AL and Marion Leonard of Grove Hill, AL; grandchildren, Allen, Abby, Noah, Kennedy, Dakota, Ryleigh, Hallie, Kenadie, Lincoln, Aaron, Zachary, Mathew and Sara; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Madeline and Chase; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Inez Hudson; brothers, Clarence Hudson, Arthur Hudson, Anthony Hudson and Terry Hudson; and one sister, Linda Ann Anthony.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 4:00PM-8:00PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home, in DeRidder, LA. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00PM by Glen Bertrand during this visitation time. The service will be held Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 2:00PM at Merryville High School Gymnasium, in Merryville, LA. Officiating the service will be David Free. Pallbearers will be Mark Dennis, Mike Dennis, Gary Dennis, Timmy Hudson, Tee Hudson and Mann Hudson. Honorary pallbearers will be Devon Perkins and Eric Perkins. Burial will follow at Merryville cemetery in Merryville, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kennie & Ivy Perkins, Sr.; son, Jerry Bailey and sister, Hilda Perkins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 5:00-10:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will continue on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Myers Colonial Funeral home, from 9:00 AM until time of service at 2:00 PM.

Knute Richard, 84, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.
Knute served in the army, then after coming out of the service he became a welder where he worked at Orange Shipyard, he then made his home in Dry Creek, Louisiana where he worked and retired from the City of DeRidder. He loved to ride horses, farm, play the violin, accordion and sing French music…He is preceded in death by his wife Emma Lee…his parents, Joe & Ezora Richard, fourteen siblings, Azalie Tibodeaux, Lillian Diaville, Amy Bellard, Leonce Richard, Leo Richard, Marie McClean, Frank Richard, Vera Mae Fruge, John Richard, Judy Nichols, Wilford Richard, Winnie Rose Watson, Eugene Richard, Joseph Richard, Jr. … He is survived by four daughters, Dianne Rasberry and husband Teddy of Grant, Connie Brooks and husband Richard (Dickie) of Sugartown, Martha Johnson and husband Andrew of Grant, LA, Katina Smith and husband Scott of Dry Creek, LA. 13 grandchildren… Dessie Perkins, Richard Brooks, Jr. Chancey Johnson, Williams Johnson, Natosha Harrington, Gary Rasberry, Kassie Felder, Julian Rainwater Jr., Quinton Rasberry, Nick Johnson, Kim Marler, Kalli Richard, Savanna Smith, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

Samuel Calvin Lofton, Sr.
Samuel Calvin Lofton Sr., 77, departed this life on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette, LA.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11am at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church located at 306 Tulley Street DeRidder, LA 70634. Final viewing will be held at 9 am until time of services.
Samuel C. Lofton Sr. was born to the union of Nelson and Queen Lofton on August 20, 1939 in Longville, Louisiana. Sam, also known as “Dirty-Red,” “Rock,” and most notably “Uncle Sam,” was an icon in the DeRidder community, as he never met a stranger. He was known for his candor, jokes, pranks, and ability to talk to anyone about anything. In the Sawmill Quarter Cab neighborhood, Sam wore many hats. He was a friend, brother, father, husband, uncle, cab driver, community ambulance, counselor, and so much more.
Because Sam loved God, he devoted his life to his church. He served as a faithful deacon, Sunday school teacher, and currently served as the Sunday School Superintendent. Sam was indeed a true servant of God.
He leaves to celebrate and cherish his legacy his wife of 53 years Modest Lofton (DeRidder); one daughter Mary Lofton (Lake Charles); one son Calvin Lofton (Lafayette); two granddaughters, Shambrecca Roberts and Tamia Joshua; two great-grandchildren Terran Roberts & Tierra Roberts; one brother, Jimmy Lofton (California); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Queen Lofton; two daughters, baby Margo Lofton and Marilyn Joshua; and siblings Robert Lee Lofton, Nathan Lofton, Chester Ray Lofton, Floyd Lofton, Leroy Lofton, and Betty Vincent.
