Lucy Franks, 98, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.

Those left to cherish her memory: daughter, Carole Dunn and husband Bill of Freeport, FL; sister, Georgia Hasler and husband Johnny of Marshall, TX; grandchildren, James Young and Sabrina Clough; great-grandchildren, Dane Clough and wife Tori; great-great-grandchildren, Austen Clough and Adalyn Clough; devoted nephews, Eugene Watson, Melbourne Watson and Earl Franks. A host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mary Warner; sisters, Audra Watson (Jesse), and Mabel Franks (Herman); husband, James Herbert Franks; and grandson, Wesley Melbourne Young.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Boxwood Church of Christ in Merryville, LA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10:00 am also at Church of Christ in Merryville, LA.

Gloria Gill

Gloria Jeane Gill, 92, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on January 4, 2017.

Gloria was happily married to Harvey Gill for 54 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a treasure and will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Joel Lee Gill and wife Shelia of Leesville, LA and Billy Howard Gill of Pitkin, LA; daughter, Beverly Thomas of Houston, TX; sisters, Della, Jerri Faye, Delores and Edith; five grandchildren, Richard, Sheila, Joel Lee, William, and Marianne; twelve great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Strength and Elizabeth Franklin; her husband, Harvey Gill; and her sister, Virginia Lee.

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 5:00PM-8:00PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Visitation continues on Friday at Providence Baptist Church at 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00PM, in the Providence Community. Officiating will be Pastor Arlen Smith and Judge Anthony Eaves. Pallbearers will be Joel Lee Gill, II, William Thomas, Stuart Sumney, Jeremy Burge, Ian Glasgow, and Zachry Huggins. Burial will follow at John C. White cemetery also in Providence Community.

Randal Farmer

Randal Gregory Farmer, 53, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Russell G. Farmer of DeRidder, LA; parents, Rodney and Patsy Farmer of DeRidder, LA; niece, Kamryn Johnson; nephew, Dillon Sonnier and wife Danielle; and great niece, Dixie LaRae Sonnier.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dana Michelle Farmer and sisters, Rita Farmer and Kimberly Farmer Johnson.

Vistation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 5:00PM - 9:00PM at Unity Baptist Church in DeRidder, Louisiana. Service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Unity Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Newlin cemetery in Singer, LA.

Evelyn Barrow Smith

Evelyn Barrow Smith, 72, of Starks, LA, passed from this life on January 2, 2017 at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur, LA.

Evelyn thoroughly enjoyed sewing, dancing, family reunions, and her birds. But most of all, she enjoyed her grandkids. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Vernon Smith; son, Jimmy Gore and wife Sharon of Wheatfield, IN; daughters, Diane Renee’ Miller of DeQuincy, LA and Samantha Cryer and husband Jeremy of Singer, LA; brothers, Jerry Barrow of Starks, LA and Waylon Barrow of Buna, TX; sisters, Beatrice Rumby and husband William of Hemphill, TX, Delores Crabtree Franks of DeQuincy, LA, Linda Barrow of Orange, TX and Sandy Verdine also of Orange, TX; eight grandchildren, Trey Miller and wife Amber, Tyler Gore, Dalton Miller, Justice Brummett, Bryce Cryer, Jaycie Cryer, Nicole Gore, and Marshall Gore; one great grandchild, Grayson Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Bessie Barrow; brothers, Samuel Barrow and J.H. Barrow; sisters, Katherine Bickham and Alma Faye Barrow.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Gambrell Baptist Church in Fields, LA. Visitation will resume on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 9:00 AM until time of the funeral service at 10:00 AM, there at Gambrell Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Trey Miller, Tyler Gore, Dalton Miller, Justice Brummett, Bryce Cryer, and Anthony Beard; Honorary pallbearer, Jaycie Cryer. Burial will follow at Barrow cemetery in Fields, LA.

Michael Lewis

Michael “Mickey” Lewis, 56, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, January 1, 2017.

Those left to cherish his memory are his spouse, Jenifer Lewis; mother, Margie McDonald and step-father, Jimmy of Pitkin, LA; mother-in-law, Joan Thompson of DeRidder, LA; sons, John Lewis and wife Suzette of Merryville, LA, Josh Lewis of Merryville, LA, John Mark Holliday and wife Jillian of Ragley, LA and Tye Holliday and wife Kayla of DeRidder, LA; daughter, Brandi Shuff and husband Lee of Rosepine LA; sisters, Dianne Davis of Pitkin, LA, Renee’ Galloway and husband Malvern of Merryville, LA, and Lisa Thompson of Pitkin, LA; grandchildren, Blayne Lewis, Briley Lewis, Lexi Shuff, Jena Shuff and Remi Shuff, Joslynn Romero, Damion Romero; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl Lewis.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Rev. Roger Longoria and Rev. Jason Fortenberry will officiate. Burial will follow at Cooper cemetery in Merryville, La.

David Evans, Sr.

David Evans, Sr., 59, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, January 1, 2017.

Those left to cherish his memory are his spouse, Angie Evans; sons, Jonathan Evans of New Orleans, LA, Nathaniel Glen Evans of DeRidder, LA, Christopher Cody Evans of Texarkana, AR, David Glen Evans, Jr. of Baltimore, MD and Jeffery Lynn Evans of DeRidder, LA; daughters, Kanya Lea Parker of Leesville, LA, Hunter Lea Evans of DeRidder, LA; sisters, Dianne James and husband Larry of Monroe, LA, Mimi Johnston and husband Lendal of Monroe, LA, Jackie Miles and husband Joel of Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Claire Alise Smythe and Cameron Gage Green.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Maxine Evans.

A Memorial service will be held at The Lighthouse Church in DeRidder, LA on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 2:00 PM.

MATIAS "MATT" HERRERA

Matias “Matt” Herrera, 77, of Merryville, Louisiana passed from this life on Friday July 14, 2017.

Matias was born on May 5, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas, but his mom always said May 4, 1940. At the age of 18 he went into the Army and retired after 26 years as Staff Sergeant. He spent 3 tours in Vietnam where he was sprayed with Agent Orange which Contributed to his death.

Matt is survived by his wife Mary Sue; six children: Micheal Herrera of Pennsylvania; Sylvia Aquirre and husband Ricky of Burleson, Texas; Patrick Herrera and wife Kayla of Temple, Texas; Patricia Torres of San Antonio, Texas; Heather Tolbert of Shreveport, Louisiana; and Josh Tolbert and wife Heidi of Ragley, Louisiana. He is also survived by two sisters, Lupe Banda and Rachel Zapata, both of San Antonio, Texas; 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anastacio and Francisca Herrera, brothers Joe and Jr. (Ray) Herrera and Great Grandson Talon Phares.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 1:00 PM until the time of service, 3:00 PM at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home.

Brother Roger Gill will officiate the service. Burial will be at Cooper cemetery in DeRidder at a later date.

RUFUS EDWIN HANCHEY

Rufus Edwin Hanchey, 75, of Dry Creek, LA, passed from this life on Friday, July 7, 2017.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Bret Hanchey & wife Tammi of DeRidder and Jeff Hanchey & wife Michelle also of DeRidder and 3 Grandchildren, Myles Hanchey, Ian Hanchey and Gabby Young Hanchey.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Barbara Ann Hanchey, and parents, Rufus & Nona Hanchey. Edwin preceded his sister, Brenda Simms, in death, who passed away the morning of July 8, 2017.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 5:00-9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Dry Creek cemetery in Dry Creek, LA.

Brandon Wesley Jeans

Brandon Wesley Jeans, 26, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Jeffery & Celeste Jeans of Merryville, LA; sister, Shelby Louise Jeans & fiancé, Parker Owen of DeRidder, LA; grandmother, Marion Danice Jeans of Merryville, LA; one spectacular nephew, Bentley West of DeRidder, LA; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Stanley; grandmother, Londell Stanley; grandfather, Charles Wesley Jeans; great-grandmother, Louise Nelson Hall; and uncle, Boone Jeans.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Boxwood Church of Christ in Merryville, LA. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Boxwood Church of Christ in Merryville, LA. Officiating the service will be Brother Roy Hossier and Brother Matt Walker. Pallbearers will be Devin Perkins, Webb Franks, Erwin Johnson, Eric Perkins, Junior Lott, Coy Ingle, Charlie Daniels and Chasten Blackmon. Burial will follow at Meadows cemetery in Merryville, LA.

He will truly be missed by all.
