Lee V. Blount III

Lee Vester “Sonny” Blount, III, 63, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Monday, October 3, 2016. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Deridder, LA. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow in Beauregard cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

Robert "Bob" Alston

Robert “Bob” Alston passed away in his home after a brief illness on October 4, 2016. He was a resident of Rosepine and DeRidder. He was originally from DeRidder and returned from Houston, Texas where he was employed as a senior accountant by Gulf Oil.

He was a beloved member of Grace-DeRidder since 1995, where he served with the Doorkeepers and Aaron Ministries visiting the elderly and shut-ins. He was also a member of the Beauregard Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as a ‘Blue Coat’ in the Emergency Room.

He is survived by his son Bryan Alston and wife Jennifer of San Rafael, Ca, sisters Patricia Stephens, Joyce Risenhoover, Juli Jensen and brother Pat DeRamus. Preceding him from this life are parents Felix and Lela Alston, brothers: Van, Lloyd, Billy Wayne, and Alfred Dubose; Michael DeRamus and Dennis Irwin, members of his adoptive and biological families.

His wishes are to have a countryside service at Rosepine cemetery on Saturday, October 8th at 10:00 AM with Pastors George Lee Glass and James Glass. Director: Myers Colonial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace of DeRidder Building Fund.

Gordon Earl Miers, Sr.

Gordon Earl Miers, Sr., 81, of DeRidder, LA, passed away at his residence on Saturday, November 5, 2016.

Gordon Earl was born on January 17, 1935 in DeRidder, LA. He graduated from DeRidder High School, and joined the United States Navy soon after graduation. He would serve many years in the Navy and the Merchant Marines. He finished out his military career as a warehouse supervisor at the Fort Polk Commissary before retiring. Mr. Miers was a man of strong conviction, who believed in “calling it like he saw it”, and never apologizing for the truth. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Miers was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Richard H. Miers, Sr.; his sister, Peggy Ann Maddox; and two brothers, Harold Wayne Miers and Richard H. Miers, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Gordon E. Miers, Jr. and his daughter, Brenda Mae Miers, both of DeRidder, LA; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 5:00-9:00pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service is on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 1:00pm also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Officiating the service will be Brother Joshua Waters and Dr. Ray Clark.

Tommy Ervin Johnson

Tommy Ervin Johnson, 66, of San Leon, TX, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, November 2, 2016.

Tommy was born on February 5, 1950 in Natchitoches, LA.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Johnson; his wife, Sherry Johnson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Mark A. Johnson & wife Amy of Beaumont, TX and Martin Steve Greer & wife Amy of Victoria, TX; daughter, Sarah E. Hayes & husband Richard of DeRidder, LA; brothers, Johnny Johnson & wife Linda of DeRidder, LA and Charles Johnson of Houston, TX; sister, Nancy Wear & husband Russell of Flower Mound, TX; grandchildren, Alexandra G. Johnson, Lucas A. Johnson, Devon C. Guillory, and Joseph C. Johnson.

Visitation was held on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 11:00am-2:00pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service was at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 6, 2016 also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Burial followed in Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Officiating the services were Brother Johnny Johnson and Brother Charles Johnson.

Mrs. Henri Lee Bryant

Mrs. Henri Lee Bryant, 98, of DeRidder, LA, was called home on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at sunrise.

Mrs. Bryant was born March 31, 1918 to Henry and Eva Peyton in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She spent her time on earth in committed service to others. She was a devoted church member, educator, mentor, volunteer, trailblazer and an active member of every community she was a part of. However, for all those that knew her, above all else; she was a child of God. If ever a person understood that true greatness comes through service; it was Mrs. Henri Lee Bryant. She knew that she was truly blessed and highly favored, and praised the Lord for that every day. She was a faithful servant until the moment the Lord called her home. The number of family members and friends she’s left behind after these 98 years are too great to count. She was loved by all, and will be missed by many. Heaven is rejoicing, as are we!

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at New Hope CME in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:00 pm also at New Hope CME in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow in Community cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Donisha Latoya Stroman

Staff Sergeant Donisha Latoya Stroman (NeNe), 25, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Lake Charles, LA.

Staff Sergeant Stroman graduated from DeRidder High School in 2009. She enlisted in the United States Army in January 2010 and attended Basic Training at Fort Sill, OK. Upon graduation, she proceeded to Fort Sam Houston where she completed Advanced Individual Training to become a Patient Administration Specialist. Sergeant Stroman then went on to serve at Fort Lewis, WA, deploying in July 2011 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following her return, she relocated to Miami, FL where she served as a Patient Administration Noncommissioned Officer for the United States Army Southern Command. Prior to her passing, Sergeant Stroman was serving as a United States Army Recruiter in New Orleans, LA where she earned the Sep FY16 Top Recruiter Award. Donisha had a passion for people and loved serving her country. Additionally, she enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and shopping. She was the “Baby Huey” of the family and shared a special bond with her mama.

The survivors left to cherish her memory are her mother, Sandra Pitts McCoy of DeRidder, LA; her father, Donny Stroman of Anaheim, CA; her sisters, Darsan Hampton (Michaelshaine) of Fort Hood, Killeen, TX and Dondra Simmons of F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, WY; her nephew, Jaylin Glover; her nieces, Kaelyn Hampton and Xariyah Jacobs; her grandparents, Jessie L. Pitts and Geraldine Pitts; her god-sister, LaShelle Williams; the special love of her life, Keovonnie Wilson; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Dorothy Groves, Barbara Stroman and Michael Grady Stroman, Sr.; and her great grandparents, Frank and Ulia Major and Mattie Williams.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 9:00-11:00 am at First Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:00 am, also at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery.

Jack Melton Hennigan, Sr.

Mr. Jack Melton Hennigan, Sr., 77, of Merryville, LA, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2016 in a local care facility.
He was born on February 2, 1939 in Jasper, TX.

Mr. Hennigan was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Dick Hennigan, father, Nathan Hennigan, beloved wife, Florence Barthol Hennigan, brother, James Hennigan of Merryville, LA, and sister, Helen Harvey of Jasper, TX.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marie Bailey Hennigan of DeRidder, LA, his children, Jack “Jay” Hennigan, Trina Campbell, Gaylene Salgado, Lisa Moore all of Merryville, LA, Tina Cooley of Lafayette, LA and Kyle Hennigan of Dallas TX. Ten Grandchildren and Fifteen Great grandchildren. Siblings, Wayne Hennigan of Merryville, LA, Alice Boykin of Jasper, TX and Willie Morgan of Magnolia Springs, TX.

Visitation was held on Monday, October 31, 2016 from 5:00-9:00pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 10:00am at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Burial followed in Cannon cemetery in Merryville, LA. Rev. Donnis Ashworth officiated.

Frances Thompson

Frances Thompson, 78, passed from this life on October 27, 2016 in DeRidder, La.

Services will be held Graveside at Occupy 1 cemetery in Pitkin, LA on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 10:00 AM.

Donna Marie Lott

Donna Marie Lott, 55, of Merryville, LA, formerly of Jasper, TX, passed from this life on Monday, October 24, 2016.

Donna was a very creative lady, who loved flowers, decorating and taking care of her family. She will be truly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Vernon Dale Lott of Merryville; her parents, Linda and Elray King of Newton, TX; her sons, Jamie Johnson of Newton, TX and Jonathan Lott of Burkeville, TX; her daughter, Jennifer Foster of Dallas, TX; her brother, Eddie King of Leesville, LA; her sisters, Julie Taylor and husband Mark of Brazoria, TX and Wanda Shofner of Jasper, TX, stepdaughter, Ashley Lott of Lumberton, TX and six grandchildren: Hope Lott, Faith Lott, Amzeigh Lott, Kaylee Lott, Dalaya Spikes and Dalana Spikes; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her stepson Derrick Lott.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at The River Church in Merryville, LA. Pastor Jason Fortenberry will officiate. Burial will follow in Cannon cemetery also in Merryville.

John Stephen Perkins

John Stephen Perkins, 75, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on December 14, 2016.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Reda Perkins of Merryville, LA; son, Tony E. Perkins and Jamie of Merryville, LA; daughters, Cindy Perkins Nash and Tommy Chadwick of Rosepine, LA and Stephanie Perkins of Rosepine, LA; brother-in-law Clayton Driver of DeRidder, LA; sisters, Madge Cruse and Harvey of Merryville, LA and Grace Jones and Jim of Rosepine, LA; grandchildren; Stephen Perkins and Samantha, Elton Nash, Joey Nash, Brendon Perkins, Kacey Perkins, JaRod Perkins, John Arguello and Matthew Arguello; step-grandchildren, Bradley Lavergne, Cody Wilson and Makaylia Wilson; great-grandchildren, Liam Nash and Stephen Perkins II; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Elmer and Lela Perkins; brother, James E. Perkins; and sisters, Rachel Driver and Mary Simmons.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 4:00-9:00PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will continue on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Rosepine Pentecostal Church in Rosepine, LA, from 9:00AM until the time of service at 11:00AM. Brother Gary Bankson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Clay Driver, Allen Cruse, Stephen Perkins, Elton Nash, Joey Nash, Ronnie Morgan, Seth Morgan, Bradley Lavergne and JaRod Perkins. Honorary pallbearers are Harvey Cruse and Clayton Driver. Burial will follow at Cooper cemetery in Merryville, LA.

John Perkins served our country in the United States Air Force. He worked for many years as an offshore driller until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, planting, and raising animals. Most of all, he dearly loved and enjoyed spending time with his kids, his grandkids, and his family – he was an awesome Uncle.

Herbert Olivier, Sr.

Herbert Olivier, Sr., was at home with his family when he left this world and entered Heavens gates on December 12, 2016. Visitation will be held Friday, December 16, 2016, from 6-10 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 1 PM. Both events will be held at Norris Memorial Church of God in Christ at 501 North Street in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

During this difficult time, the family wishes to express their sincere thanks for all the support and prayers.
