Hugh Tracey III, a retired automotive dealer and entrepreneur, died Friday of congestive heart failure at his home. He was 68. Mr. Tracey was born in New Orleans and lived in Slidell for the past 23 years. He graduated from Alcee Fortier High School and attended Southeastern University. He was a member of Dante Masonic Lodge No. 174 and a former member of the National Automotive Dealers Association. Survivors include his wife, Annette Brewer; three sons, Kirk and David Tracey of Atlanta and Jeff Tracey of Metairie; two daughters, Denice Tracey of Jackson, Miss., and Heidi Tracey of Shreveport; two stepsons, Brian and Brandon Erwin; a sister, Hilda May Tracey; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Services will be private.

WASHINGTON, DEBORAH DENISE
December 09, 2001

Deborah Denise Washington, a barmaid for Sharon's Bar and Lounge, died Nov. 5 of sepsis at Charity Hospital. She was 43. Ms. Washington was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She attended James A. Derham School. Survivors include her father, James Washington; her mother, Velma Young Washington; a brother, Joe Washington; and a sister, Billie Jo Jacobs of Chalmette. Services were private. Tilly's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

BEANS, CLAUDE
December 09, 2001

Claude Beans, a retired laborer, died Wednesday at Lallie Kemp Medical Center in Independence. He was 89. Mr. Beans was born in Greensburg and lived in Amite. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Beans; a son, Emmit Beans; a daughter, Mary Beans of San Antonio; 22 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 7 p.m. at McMichael A.M.E. Church, 13015 McMichael Church Road, Amite. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at N.A. James Funeral Home, 407 South N.A. James Drive, Hammond. Dismissal will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Butler's cemetery in Amite.

BATTAGLIA, CLARA McGINNIS
December 09, 2001

Clara McGinnis Battaglia, a former waitress for Thompson's Restaurant, died Thursday at Westminster Towers in Kenner. She was 85. Mrs. Battaglia was born in New Orleans and lived in Jefferson for the past 80 years. Survivors include three sisters, Lillian Melchiarri of Natick, Mass., and Marguerite Finan and Althea Kassel, both of New Orleans. A funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will be today from 6 to 10 p.m. and Monday at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Brookhaven, Miss.

DEUTSCHMANN, AIMEE JOYCE
January 27, 2002

Aimee Joyce Deutschmann, a homemaker, died Friday of undetermined causes at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was 21. Miss Deutschmann was born in Metairie and lived in Kenner most her life. Survivors include a daughter, Alexis Deutschmann; her father, Kenneth Deutschmann; her mother, Alicia Devaney Deutschmann; a brother, Kristopher Deutschmann; her grandparents, Frank and Joyce Deutschmann; and her great-grandparents, Irma Flettrich and Paul Bourg. A Mass will be said Monday at noon at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

CABALLERO, GLORIA POOL
December 09, 2001

Gloria Pool Caballero, a homemaker, died Friday at Thibodaux General Hospital. She was 82. Mrs. Caballero was born in New Orleans and lived in Houma for 30 years, Schriever for 10 years and Thibodaux for the past seven years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux. Survivors include two sons, George L. Caballero of Raceland and Kenneth L. Caballero of Houston; a daughter, Stephanie R. Caballero; a brother, Stephen D. Pool of Aberdeen, Wash.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral.

CANTEY, EDITH BURTON
December 09, 2001

Edith Burton Cantey, a homemaker, died Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center. She was 76. Ms. Cantey was born in Natchitoches, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 56 years. She graduated from the Lincoln Institute of Natchitoches. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a member of its Altar Society. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 4423 LaSalle St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park cemetery. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CUCURULLO, DORIS GARTMAN
December 09, 2001

Doris Gartman Cucurullo, a homemaker, died Saturday of pneumonia at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. She was 87. Mrs. Cucurullo was born in Saucier, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for more than 60 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a past president of the Children's Hospital Guild and a board member of the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Louisiana Garden Club Federation. She was a member of the City Park Board of Commissioners, a life member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs, a charter member of the Chamber of Commerce Women's Auxiliary and a founder of the Civic Beautification Association. Survivors include two sisters, Verda Lee Seymour and Joyce P. Shank. A funeral will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park cemetery.

ADAMS, DORIS

Doris Adams, a homemaker, died Thursday of undetermined causes at Lifecare Hospital in Chalmette. She was 69. Mrs. Adams was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Picayune, Miss. Survivors include a son, Bernard Ivan Adams Jr. of Slidell; a daughter, Stephanie Guidry of Slidell; her mother, Johanna Kappeler of Poplarville, Miss.; three brothers, Ronnie Hedler of Wisconsin, Richard Hedler of Florida and Fred Roemmelle of Texas; two sisters, Lois Rowell of Poplarville and Joan Hedler; and five grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Picayune Funeral Home in Picayune. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.

ROBINSON, RUTHIE FAYE BRUMFIELD
December 16, 2001

Ruthie Faye Brumfield Robinson, a retired licensed practical nurse, died Thursday of cancer at her home. She was 59. Mrs. Robinson was born in Cheraw, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for 29 years before moving to Harvey 12 years ago. She graduated from Flint Goodridge Nursing School. She was a former employee of Mercy Baptist Medical Center and a member of Little Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Eduardo and Rodney Robinson; a daughter, Dionne R. Lewis; a stepson, Anthony Gary Brumfield; her mother, Ella Mae James; three sisters, Edgie Lee Mason, Dorothy McKinney and Cathy James; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A wake and funeral will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church, 3231 Audubon St. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. A funeral will be held Tuesday at noon at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Cheraw. Burial will be in St. Paul United Methodist Church cemetery in Cheraw. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BLAIR, JOSHUA LEVON
December 16, 2001

Joshua Levon Blair, a student at L.W. Higgins High School, died Thursday of muscular dystrophy at Children's Hospital. He was 17. Mr. Blair was a lifelong resident of Westwego. He was a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and played wheelchair football at L.W. Higgins High School. Survivors include his father, Ronald C. Weaver; his mother, Wanda Lowery Weaver; his grandparents, Kenneth and Linda Lowery; and two brothers, Dwayne E. Blair Jr. and Brian S. Weaver. A funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero. Visitation will begin today at 6 p.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Park cemetery.

BLAKES, GEORGE HENRY
December 16, 2001

George Henry Blakes, a retired business owner, died Dec. 7 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 86. Mr. Blakes was born in Woodville, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 54 years. He was a private first class in the Army during World War II and received several medals. He was the owner of Blakes Sweetshop for more than 40 years. He then sold jumbo peanuts in the French Quarter and was known as the "Peanut Man." He was a member of New Home Baptist Church, where he served as a pastor. Survivors include his wife, Essie James Blakes; five sons, George Henry Blakes of Atlanta, Wallace Gregory James of Missouri City, Texas, Wayne Blakes of Houston, Everett Blakes of Biloxi, Miss., and Kevin L. Blakes; four daughters, Frances B. Martin, Lorraine Leona Pitts, Pamela Ann Blakes of Gretna and Bonita Blakes; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Calvin J. Young Funeral Home, 2512 LaSalle St. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Biloxi National cemetery in Biloxi.
