Lois Redmond Bricka, a retired accountant for Ochsner Foundation Hospital, died Tuesday at Picayune Convalescent Home. She was 89. Mrs. Bricka was born in Greensburg and lived in Picayune, Miss., for the past four years. Survivors include two sons, Hilton and Kenneth Bryan; a daughter, Janice Hucabee; a brother, A.J. Redmond; a sister, Evie Louise White; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Schoen Funeral Home, 3808 Pontchartrain Blvd., Slidell. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Terry's Creek cemetery, Magnolia, Miss.
TILLMAN, GAIL WATKINS

Gail Watkins Tillman, a retired cosmetologist, died Tuesday of congestive heart failure at her home. She was 63. Mrs. Tillman was born in Algiers and lived in Gretna for the past year. She attended L.B. Landry High School. Survivors include her husband, Arthur Leroy Tillman; her mother, Helen Williams Watkins; two brothers, Dorrie Watkins and Charles Watkins III; and a sister, Ruby Watkins Cooper. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Murray Henderson Funeral Home, 1209 Teche St., Algiers. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in McDonoghville cemetery in Gretna.
SMITH, ROMANO TALTON ‘MONIE'

Romano Talton "Monie" Smith, a painter in the construction industry, died Jan. 17 of complications from diabetes at his uncle's home. He was 38. Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a graduate of John McDonogh Senior High School and attended Delgado Community College. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Painters Union Local No. 61. He was a parishioner of St. Monica Catholic Church. Survivors include his stepmother, Emelda T. Smith; and two sisters, Femiko and Chinetha Smith. A Mass will be said Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church, 2327 S. Galvez St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lionel W.T. Samson, a retired first sergeant in the Army, died Saturday of undetermined causes at Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was 57. Mr. Samson was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Carver High School. He received many military medals, including the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with a bronze star and the Good Conduct Medal. Survivors include a daughter, Toya Green Lazard of Bridge City; four brothers, Isaiah Green of Fayette, Miss., Gregory Green of Natchez, Miss., Roosevelt Clark and Albert Green; a sister, Bessie T. Carter; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 9 a.m. at Littlejohn Funeral Home, 2163 Aubry St. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Biloxi National cemetery, Biloxi, Miss.

Edward L. Piper, retired food and beverage director at the New Orleans Rivergate, died Saturday at JoEllen Smith Convalescent Center. He was 79. Mr. Piper was born in Detroit and lived in New Orleans for the past 30 years. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was owner of Pied Pipers Lounge. Survivors include two sons, William and Robert Piper, and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Woodland Presbyterian Church, 5324 Berkley Drive, Algiers. Visitation will begin at 10:30 at the church. Mothe Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Virginia Messina Rainey, a former sales associate for Wal-Mart, died Wednesday of a heart attack at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. She was 76. Mrs. Rainey was born in Independence and lived in Mandeville for the past 40 years. Survivors include her husband, Arvel W. Rainey Sr.; a son, Arvel W. Rainey Jr.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at noon at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial is in Colonial cemetery.

Jessie Glenn Pikes Sr., a laborer, died Jan. 19 of heart failure at Tulane University Hospital. He was 67. Mr. Pikes was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include two sons, Alvin and Jessie Glenn Pikes Jr.; two daughters, Willie Gail Pikes and Barbara Lynn Pikes; four brothers, Lendell, Kaleb, Eugene and Alex Pikes Jr.; and two sisters, Betty P. Morgan and Every Jean Smith. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Montpelier. Visitation will be today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the church, on Louisiana 16.. Nicole Adrine Bazile, a data entry clerk at Key Click Outsource, died Monday of a stab wound at her home. She was 25. Ms. Bazile was born in New Orleans and lived in River Ridge for the past year. She was a graduate of Alfred Bonnabel High School. She was a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service and Magic Seasoning. Survivors include her companion, Keith M. Smith Jr.; a son, Jacorey Bazile; her father, John Bazile Jr.; a daughter, Derrion Reid; her mother, Patricia Bazile; a brother, John Bazile III; three sisters, Michele and Amy Bazile, and Giget White; and her grandmothers, Rose Brumfield and Lillie Mae Hutchinson. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Marine Baptist Church, 3934 Andover St., Jefferson. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. August McCall, an employee of the city of New Orleans, died Jan. 15 of a heart attack at Lakeland Medical Center. He was 46. Mr. McCall was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a former carpenter and certified nursing assistant. Survivors include a son, August Thomas McCall II; a daughter, Tiera Paul; five brothers, David McCall and Alced, Gary, Michael and Ricardo Perrault; three sisters, Sheila Zander, Mercilita Plessy and Tracy Perrault; and three grandchildren. A funeral was held today at Temple of Joy Church.

James Lee "Rooster" Mason, a truck driver with Southern Intermobile, died Sunday of a heart attack at St. Claude Medical Center. He was 60. Mr. Mason was born in Liberty, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for many years. Survivors include his companion, Eleanora Daliet; a son, Bruno Mason; a stepson, Troy Daliet; three stepdaughters, Monica, Natasha and Ra'Shaun Daliet; two brothers, Leroy Jr. and Hubert Mason; two sisters, Ethel Mae Caines and Queenie E. Williams; and 13 grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.
GROW, MERLYN ‘BILL'

Merlyn "Bill" Grow, a retired utility lineman for Louisiana Power & Light Co., died Tuesday of complications from a stroke at Ocean Springs Hospital in Ocean Springs, Miss. He was 70. Mr. Grow was born in Algiers and lived in Grand Isle and Ocean Springs for the past year. He served in the Marines Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 218, Marine Corps League, 1st Marine Division Association, and a former member of the Algiers Point Association. He was a life member of the Grand Isle Volunteer Fire Co. Survivors include his wife, Elvie Sliger Grow; four stepsons, Blake Grow and Glenn, James and Thomas Ray; three stepdaughters, Donna Ray Merritt, Rose Ray Caballero and Linda Ray; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette St., Algiers. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

Verlee Charrier Germain, a retired homemaker, died Tuesday at her daughter's home. She was 75. Mrs. Germain was born in New Orleans and lived in Covington for the past 10 years. She was a former employee of St. Mary's Dominican College and the Dominican Sisters Home. Survivors include her husband, Wilfred Germain; a son, Mark Germain; two daughters, Lee Lawrence and Kay Germain White; and four grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be said Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Covington. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
