Paul Ree Bates, a longshoreman, died Saturday of heart failure at University Hospital. He was 63. Mr. Bates was born in Liberty, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for many years. Survivors a son, Paul Hall; two daughters, Bernadette and Vanessa Hall; six brothers, Tommie, Cleo, Leo, Bobby Earl, Arthur and Louis Bates; seven sisters, Ruby Scott, Bettye J. Hill, Johnie M. Davis, Jessie E. Jackson, Shirley Owens, Lillie Hood and Patsy Ann Bell; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church in McComb, Miss. Burial well be in Liberty cemetery. Cook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BAHAM, HENRY JOSEPH ‘H.B.' III
May 25, 2001

Henry Joseph "H.B." Baham III, chief executive officer of Picture Me Rollin Full Service Salon, died Monday at Charity Hospital of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. He was 40. Mr. Baham was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended John F. Kennedy Senior High School, Southern University at New Orleans and Delgado Community College. Survivors include his wife, Alana Shelton; three sons, Henry Baham IV, Henry Baham V and Antonio Shelton; four daughters, Ana and Alasia Baham, Antonia Shelton and Arianne Norwood; his mother, Dorothy Auguillard; four brothers, Edgar Hayes Sr., Clifford Westbrook, Wendell Baham and Jon Auguillard; and three sisters, Tanda P. Wiltz, Nikki Baham Mercadal and Dorian Baham. A memorial service was held Thursday. United Funeral Services was in charge of the arrangements.

GASKIN, ROSALIE
January 25, 2002

Rosalie Gaskin, a homemaker, died Saturday of respiratory failure at Charity Hospital. She was 63. Mrs. Gaskin was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from James Lewis School. She was a former domestic worker. Survivors include her husband, Ernest Gaskin; her father, Isiah Scott; her mother, Florestine Morgan; her stepfather, Lester Morgan; her stepmother, Ruby Mae Scott; two brothers, Johnell Morgan and Isiah Scott III; five sisters, Ruby Mae Williams, Helen Bell, Orelian Sluch, Lilly Jarrow and Barbara Catherine; 22 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Majestic Mortuary, 1833 Oretha C. Haley Blvd. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Providence cemetery.

EHRHARDT, ELEANOR M.
January 25, 2002

Eleanor M. Ehrhardt, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Slidell Memorial Hospital. She was 89. Mrs. Ehrhardt was born in Simmesport and lived in Slidell. She was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church and a member of the church altar society in Simmesport. Survivors include a son, Leo L. Ehrhardt Jr.; a daughter, Mary E. Gramigna of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Sunday at 2 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Escude Funeral Home in Simmesport. Burial will be in Christ the King cemetery Mausoleum. A memorial service will be held at Azalea Estates in Slidell at a later date. Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell is in charge of local arrangements.

CLARK, ELMA LEE
January 25, 2002

Elma Lee Clark, a retired cook at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, died Sunday of undetermined causes at her home. She was 65. Mrs. Clark was born in Franklinton and lived in New Orleans for many years. She was a high school graduate. Survivors include her husband, Willie Clark Sr.; four sons, John Davis and Antonio McGill of Harvey, Reginald McGill of Kenner and McKinley McGill of Alaska; two daughters, Gwendolyn McGill of Jackson, Miss., and Stephanie Anderson; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greater Hayes Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 31499 Hayes Creek Road, Franklinton. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Crain and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BUCALAN, LUCIA CALIXTO
January 25, 2002

Lucia Calixto Bucalan, a homemaker, died Tuesday of complications from diabetes at Kenner Regional Medical Center. She was 73. Mrs. Bucalan was born in Cavite, Philippines, and lived in Kenner for many years. Survivors include four sons, Fernando, Juanito, Manuel and George Bucalan; six daughters, Concepcion Manalo, Leonida Pardo, Yolanda Bucalan, Angelita Sierra, Maria Luisa Damian and Noemi Bucalan Lubag; four brothers; two sisters; 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Saturday at 9 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will be held today from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturday at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Metairie cemetery.

BROWN, SHIRLEY M.
January 25, 2002

Shirley M. Brown, a retired nurse, died Tuesday of a heart attack at her home. She was 74. Mrs. Brown was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, William J. "Bill" Brown; a son, William J. Brown Jr.; four daughters, Patricia B. Johnson, Cynthia B. Smith, Olivia F. Brown and Marsha B. Williams; 31 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 2545 Bayou Road. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HARRELL, BOBBIE WILLIAMS
January 25, 2002

Bobbie Williams Harrell, a retired accounting manager, died of cancer Sunday at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was 61. Ms. Harrell was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from Walter L. Cohen Senior High School and attended Louisiana State University. She was formerly employed by South Central Bell. She was a founder of and missionary for Living Witness Church of God in Christ. Survivors include a son, Louis Harrell Jr.; a stepdaughter, Zelle Jeanette Cushionberry; three sisters, Lorraine Porter, Doris Peel and Katherine Causey Liggins; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 7:30 p.m. at Thompson Temple Church of God in Christ, 1515 Whitney Ave. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Dismissal will be Saturday at 11 a.m. Tilly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ZABRECKY, PAULA MARIE DYBEL
January 25, 2002

Paula Marie Dybel Zabrecky, a teacher at St. Edward the Confessor School, died Wednesday of complications from surgery at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was 54. Mrs. Zabrecky was born in Hammond, Ind., and lived in Metairie for the past 25 years. She was a graduate of Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond and St. Joseph College in East Chicago, Ind. She taught at St. Edward the Confessor for the past 10 years, where she directed plays and sponsored school trips to Washington, D.C., for her social studies class. She was a member of the Newcomers Club of New Orleans Krewe of Neophermenos and was queen of its Mardi Gras ball in 1989. Mrs. Zabrecky was a Cub Scout den mother, a board member of Young Audiences, and a former member and president of the St. Edward the Confessor Ladies Council. She was a former member of the Marian Theater Guild of St. John Church in Whiting, Ind. Survivors include her husband, Robert E. "Bob Breck" Zabrecky; three sons, Robert Zabrecky of Boulder, Colo., and Ryan and Justin Zabrecky; her mother, Mary Therese Dybel of Whiting; three brothers, Gerard Dybel of Littleton, Mass., and Martin and Andrew Dybel of Whiting; and two sisters, Andrea Conover of North Canton, Ohio, and Marcia Pappalardo of LaGrange, Ill. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 4921 West Metairie Ave. Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. at the church. Another service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Baran Funeral Home in Whiting, followed by Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Whiting. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Calumet City, Ill.

WHITE, SYLVESTER
January 25, 2002

Sylvester White, a retired mechanic, died Tuesday of heart failure at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 86. Mr. White was born in West Feliciana Parish and lived in New Orleans for the past 65 years. He was a member of James Chapel Baptist Church, where he was chaplain emeritus of the Sick Committee, subtreasurer of the Deacon Board and second member of the Pastor's Aid Committee. Survivors include a daughter, Lois Isadore; a brother, Cary White; two sisters, Ethel Williams and Hattie Hargrove; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral is Saturday at noon at James Chapel Baptist Church, 4228 Thalia St. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Park and Mausoleum. Gaskin-Southall, Gordon & Gordon Mortuary is handling arrangements.

WHEELER, CAROL
January 25, 2002

Carol Wheeler, a retired nurse's aide and ward clerk, died Monday of undetermined causes at her home. She was 42. Ms. Wheeler was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School. She was a member of Christian Life Bible Church. Survivors include her father, Sandy Wheeler; her mother, LouAnna M. Hill; her stepmother, Cecil Wheeler; five brothers, Mitchell McLaurin, Michael Larkin and Samuel, Darnell and Travis Wheeler; three sisters, Jenny L. Harris, Sandra Wheeler-Hester and Kattie Ashby; and her grandparents, Willie Wheeler, Katie Stewart and Charlie and Gennie McLaurin. A funeral will be held today at 10 a.m. at Christian Life Bible Church, 201 Robert St., Terrytown. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn cemetery in Avondale. Davis Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

WELLS, CALVIN C.
January 25, 2002

Calvin C. Wells died Jan. 17 of undetermined causes at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 47. Mr. Wells was born in Harrisville, Miss., and lived in Harvey. Survivors include his mother, Jerolean Washington; his stepfather, Henry Washington; two brothers, Pastor Carnell Bridges of Marrero and Jerald Washington of Houston; and two sisters, Jill D. Washington of New Orleans and Gloria Consonery. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Zion Baptist Church, 5186 Lucille Drive, Crown Point. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Park cemetery in Avondale. Davis Mortuary Service is in charge of arrangements.
