Rita Estelle Brener, a retired bookkeeper, died Wednesday at Hancock Medical Center. She was 81. Mrs. Brener was born in New Orleans, was a former resident of Pass Christian, Miss., and Slidell, and lived in Bay St. Louis, Miss., for the past three months. She worked at Clark Garage for 20 years. Survivors include a brother, Savin B. Beler Jr.; and a sister, Elaine Collier. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn cemetery, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell. Honaker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The memorial service for Donald "Duck" Williams, which was to be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greater Rose Hill Baptist Church, have been canceled. Mr. Williams died Nov. 22 in Fairfield, Calif.

Thomas Payne Thompson, a retired businessman, died Tuesday at his home. He was 84. Mr. Thompson was born in New Orleans and lived in Gulf Breeze, Fla., for the past three years. He attended Springhill High School. He was past owner of a John Deere Industrial Tractor dealership. He was a member of the Tally Ho Club Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Helen Cooke Thompson; a son, Thomas Payne Thompson III; four daughters, Terry Thompson Nieman, Gretchen Thompson Clarke, Susan Thompson Vosbein and Ann Elizabeth Thompson; a sister, Rebekah Radcliffe Gilly; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.

Linus John Thibodeaux, a retired professional rope maker, died Monday of cancer at his home. He was 72. Mr. Thibodeaux was born in Opelousas and lived in Marrero for the past 45 years. He served in the Enlisted Reserve Corps. Survivors include his wife, Betty Guidry Thibodeaux; a daughter, Agnes Thibodeaux Falcon; a brother, Joseph Thibodeaux; two sisters, Emma Arnold and Norma Miller; and a grandchild. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.

Linda Marie Taquino, a homemaker, died Tuesday of undetermined causes at her home. She was 55. Mrs. Taquino was born in Duluth, Minn., and lived in New Orleans for the past 26 years. Survivors include her husband, George Taquino; three sons, Sean Loper of Gulfport, Miss., John Loper of Kenner and Alex Loper; a daughter, Stephanie Ryan of Golden, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Jane Taquino of Metairie; her mother, Patricia Simmons; two brothers, Stephen Daugaard of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and David Johnson; a sister, Tracey Johnson of Gulfport; and eight grandchildren. Durel James Sylve, a retired distributor, died Wednesday of a heart attack at Kenner Regional Medical Center. He was 69. Mr. Sylve was born in Metairie and lived in Kenner for the past 12 years. He was a member of American Bowling Congress and participated in three Kenner leagues. Survivors include a son, Michael Louis Sylve; two daughters, Kim S. Weber and Pam S. Boudreaux; and two brothers, Robert and Louis Sylve. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m and Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.

Michael Edward Tesei, a coach and teacher, died Tuesday in an automobile accident in Ferris, Texas. He was 30. Mr. Tesei was born in Greenwich, Conn., and lived in Red Oak, Texas. He graduated from Block High School in Jonesville in 1989 and received a bachelor's degree in physical education from Louisiana Tech in 1995. He was pursuing a master's degree in mid-management at Texas A&M.; He coached seventh-, eighth-and ninth-grade football and basketball in Rockwall, Texas, where he was named Most Inspirational Teacher during his first year. He moved to Ferris in 1998, where he coached football, basketball and golf and taught math at Ferris High School. Mr. Tesei was named 1998 Teacher of the Year at Ferris. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Tesei of Red Oak, Texas; a daughter, Danielle Tesei; his parents, Emilio S. and Karen R. Tesei of Covington; and a sister, Joy Tesei Forde of Langhorne, Pa. A memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Waxahachie Bible Church, 621 N. Grand, Waxahachie, Texas. A second service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 N. Milton A. Stockton Jr., a retired accountant, died Wednesday at Lakeview Regional Medical Center near Covington. He was 83. Mr. Stockton was born in New Orleans and lived in Mandeville for the past 14 years. He was a parishioner of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where he served as a parish council member and usher. In 1997 he received the Order of St. Louis Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was awarded the Air Medal with four Oak Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the American Theater and European Theater Campaign medals and the Theater of Operations with three Battle Stars Medal. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Smith Stockton; a son, Milton A. Stockton III; a brother, Daniel E. Stockton Sr.; a sister, Mrs. John D. Barthlow Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Shelby Joseph Neveaux Jr., a computer consultant at V. Keeler and Associates Inc., died Monday of undetermined causes at his home. He was 50. Mr. Neveaux was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include a son, Shannon Dean Alexander; his mother, Viola Leona Brooks; two brothers, the Rev. Fred Luter Jr. and Keith K. Luter Sr.; two sisters, Yolanda L. Keeler and Felicia I. Doris "Ms. Doris" Mathis, a health-care sitter, died Saturday of a stab wound at her home. She was 65. Mrs. Mathis was born in McComb, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for many years. She was a member of Faith of Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Michael and Chris Jackson and Darren Sykes; a daughter, Michelle Sykes; two brothers, Ray Charles Harness and Murray Harness Jr.; seven sisters, Annette Brown, Eva Mae Weathersby, Joyce Harness, Virginia Price, Irma Anderson, Bertha Bergeron and Brenda Turner; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Alcide Michel LeBlanc, a retired radar technician, died Thursday at his home. He was 76. Mr. LeBlanc was a lifelong resident of Metairie. Mr. LeBlanc was a corporal in the Marine Corps during World War II and received a Good Conduct Medal, the Louisiana War Cross, the Naval Unit Citation and the Asia-Pacific Victory Medal. Survivors include his wife, Marie Lotfe; three daughters, Lorraine Wright, Suzanne Marshall and Denise Paddock; a brother, Alfred LeBlanc; and five grandchildren. Patricia A. "Pat" Jones, a teacher's assistant for Jefferson Parish schools, died Tuesday of complications due to liver failure at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was 45. Mrs. Jones was a lifelong resident of Marrero. She graduated from L.W. Higgins High School. She was a member of the senior choir, prison ministry and coping ministry at St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Glynn R. Jones Sr.; a daughter, Jessica Jones; two stepsons, Glynn R. Jones Jr. and Trenel Miller; two brothers, Anthony Smith and the Rev. Sam J. Smith Jr.; and three sisters, Mary S. Winder, Carolyn S. Collins E. J. "Joe" Laudun, a self-employed building contractor, died Nov. 29 of a heart attack at his home. He was 54. Mr. Laudun was born in New Orleans and lived in Harahan. Survivors include a daughter; an adopted son; his mother, Marguerite Laudun; and three sisters, Mary Ann Rayburn, Monique Aldridge and Nicole Heaton. A private service was held Sunday.
