Suzanne Gutierrez Hackler, a homemaker, died Thursday of undetermined causes at her home. She was 52. Mrs. Hackler was born in New Orleans and lived in Shreveport. She graduated from Archbishop Chapelle High School and Regents College in New York. Survivors include her husband, Micah S. Hackler; a son, Stuart Hackler; a daughter, Sabyn Berry; her father, Charles S. Gutierrez Sr.; her mother, Julie Chappuis Gutierrez; a brother, Charles Gutierrez Jr.; and two sisters, Carla Widmer and Lisa Cortez. A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Roch cemetery, 1725 St. Roch Ave. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
FLEMING, DeWITT PIERCE

DeWitt Pierce Fleming, a retired civil engineer with the Coast Guard, died Friday at Memorial Hospital. He was 80. Mr. Fleming was born in Mississippi and lived in Winona, Miss., for many years. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Eubank Fleming; four daughters, Betty Fleming McQuaid of Raleigh, N.C., Katherine T. Fleming of Alexandria, and Pauline Fleming Smith and Ann Fleming of Santa Fe, N.M.; a brother, James Fleming of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Frances Farmer of Cruger, Miss.; and a grandchild. A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. in Oakwood cemetery, Winona. Lee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Essie Mae Converse, a homemaker, died Friday of heart failure at Memorial Baptist Hospital. She was 62. Mrs. Converse was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Eldridge Converse, and Warren and Nicholas Young; two daughters, Anya Berry and Samantha Converse; a brother, Robert Young Jr.; a sister, Annie Mae Randolph; eight grandchildren; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held today at noon at Little Zion Baptist Church, 3221 Audubon St. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park cemetery. Frank Clark Jr., a retired chauffeur, died Thursday at Covenant Nursing Home. He was 87. Mr. Clark was born in Lumberton, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for most of his life. He was a graduate of McDonogh No. 35 Senior High School. He was a member of St. Peter AME Church, where he served on the Usher Board. Survivors include a son, Paul E. Clark of Inglewood, Calif.; a sister, Alice Brokenberry of Houston; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter AME Church, 1201 Cadiz St. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Mausoleum. Estelle J. Everett T. Breaux Sr., a retired chief petty officer in the Navy, died Thursday of cancer at his home. He was 63. Mr. Breaux was born in New Orleans and lived in Virginia Beach, Va., for the past 30 years. He was a graduate of Saint Augustine High School in New Orleans and St. Leo's University. Mr. Breaux was a member of the Chapel of the Good Shepard at the Oceana Naval Air Station, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was the systems manager at Comnnavirlant at the Naval Operating Base, Norfolk, Va., for 18 years. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Robertson of Virginia Beach; two sons, Christopher M. and Everett T. Breaux III, both of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Ronique Y. Breaux Jordan of Kaiserlautern, Germany; four brothers, Thomas P. of Randalltown, Md., Charles P., Oscar and Barrett Breaux, all of New Orleans; seven sisters, Shirley Asmore, Theresa Francisco, Mary Veal, Rita Mae Johnson, Janet Harris and Virginia Alsanders, all of New Orleans, and Sister Marie deMontfort of Memphis; and two grandsons. A Mass will be said Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Chapel of The Good Shepard, Oceana Naval Air Station, Virginia Beach, Va. Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Kellum Funeral Home, 3795 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach. Burial will be in Quanitco National cemetery, Quanitco, Va. Louis "Big Lou" Alexander, a retired longshoreman, died Wednesday of a stroke at St. Claude Medical Center. He was 60. Mr. Alexander was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include two sons, Harry Handy and Louis Alexander Jr.; two stepsons, Stanley and Brian Hammond; his mother, Rosa L. Boyd; three brothers, Oscar A. Rollins, and Solomon and Thomas Boyd Jr.; a daughter, Andra Jones; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Christian Mission Baptist Church, 1477 N. Calvin Anthony Adams, a retired employee of Avondale Industries, died Nov. 19 of lung cancer at his home. He was 51. Mr. Adams was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended George W. Carver Senior High School. He was a former employee of Texaco. Survivors include his companion, Ana Picard; four daughters, Carla, Karen, Caternia and Unique Adams; his mother, Vera Adams Lewis; two brothers, Lester and Anthony Adams; two sisters, Connie Lewis and Stella Hebert; and five grandchildren. Stuart James Farber, a pharmacy consultant, died Saturday of cancer at Lakeview Regional Hospital. He was 63. Mr. Farber was born in St. Petersburg, Fla., and lived in Mandeville for many years. He graduated from the University of Alabama and received a doctorate in pharmacy from Loyola University. He was a member of the Forty-Niner Club and the Board of Pharmacy. Survivors include his wife, Joyce C. Farber; a son, Steven James Farber; a daughter, Claire Janet Farber; three brothers, George, Robert and Louis Farber; a sister, Sally Hollister; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in Metairie cemetery.

Thirkield "Turk" Coston, a self-employed car detailer, died Tuesday of a gunshot wound in the 3300 block of Fern Street. He was 30. Mr. Coston was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from John McDonogh Senior High School. Survivors include his companion, Florence Celestine; two sons, Thirkield Nelson and Markell Hill; three daughters, Dajonette, Christina and Thirkland Porter; a stepson, Ronald Celestine; a stepdaughter, Donna Celestine; three brothers, Hilton, Eddie and Rickey Coston; and four sisters, Lillie Mae Coston, Bernadine Fultz, Mary Lee Harry and Jackie Jenkins. Joseph James Cager died Wednesday of complications from asthma at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 2. Joseph lived in New Orleans. He attended Reynolds Academy and was a parishioner of St. David Catholic Church. Survivors include his father, James Cager Sr.; his mother, Eleanor H. Cager; two brothers, Alexander Joseph and James Cager Jr.; two sisters, Sabrina Ann and Sondra L. Cager; a grandfather, Alfred Holmes Sr.; and his grandmothers, Doloras T. Cager and Gertis Holmes. James P. "Jamie" Shannon, an executive chef at Commander's Palace, died Friday of cancer at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He was 40. Mr. Shannon was born in Sea Isle, N.J., and lived in New Orleans for the past 17 years. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. He was a former chef at Ivana's in the Trump Towers Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J., and an extern for Resorts International Hotel and Casino. He co-authored the cookbook, "Commander's Kitchen" and starred in the television show, "Off the Menu at Commander's Palace." He won the Best Service in America Award in 1993 and the Lifetime Outstanding Restaurant in America Award in 1996, both from the James Beard Foundation. He was named No. 2 Chef in the World by the Robb Report in 1999. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Rayer Shannon; a son, Tustin Shannon; his mother, Anne M. Shannon of Sea Isle; his adoptive father, Patrick J. Shannon of Sea Isle; his father, James E. Frazier of Sea Isle; three brothers, Howard T. Trout III, Jamie T. Bitting and Jonathann Shannon, all of Sea Isle; and three sisters, Lynda M. Frazier, Melissa A. Trout-Baron and Jocaelynn Shannon, all of Sea Isle. James "Bo" Garland Bourgeois Sr., owner of Bourgeois Inc. Ornamental Concrete and an employee of Renaissance Management Co., died Saturday of complications from an injury at his home. He was 44. Mr. Bourgeois was born in Jefferson and lived in Kenner for many years. He graduated from Alfred T. Bonnabel High School. Survivors include a son, James Garland Bourgeois Jr.; two daughters, Jennifer and Kaitlyn Bourgeois; a brother, Garland Bourgeois; and four sisters, Rose Mumma, Jane Flair, Sharon Shields and Annette Darnell. A Mass will be said Wednesday at 11 a.m. at L.A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
