Alpha Katherine Webb "Sammie" Johnson, a homemaker, died Saturday in an auto accident in Harrisonburg. She was 49. Ms. Johnson was born in Baton Rouge and lived in Harrisonburg. Survivors include her husband, John F. Johnson; a son, Nathaniel Hunter "Nat' Casey; two daughters, Sarah Kathrine Casey of New Orleans and Hallye Elizabeth Casey; two stepsons, Derek Johnson of Monroe and Kyle Johnson of Jonesville; and three sisters, Sharon W. Malek of San Antonio, Texas, Elizabeth W. "Betty" Sanders of Osyka, Miss., and Mary Webb. A funeral will be held today at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Harrisonburg. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Harrisonburg cemetery. Young's Funeral Home in Jonesville is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Guidry Haas, a homemaker, died Sunday at her home. She was 76. Mrs. Haas was born in New Orleans and lived in Mandeville for the past two years. Survivors include her husband, George William Haas; a daughter, Diane H. Muhs; a brother, Horace Lawrence "Larry" Guidry Jr.; two sisters, Hazel C. Foltmer and Patricia G. Berggren; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 3 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park.

Mable Persson Fisk, a retired reservations agent with Delta Airlines, died Saturday of cancer at her home. She was 54. Mrs. Fisk was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie. She was a graduate of Holy Angels Academy. She was formerly a flight attendant with United Airlines. Survivors include her husband, Donald Fisk; her mother, Catherine Ericksson Persson; a brother, John "Bobby" Persson; and two sisters, Kitty Persson Bauer and Christine Persson. A funeral will be held today at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Mausoleum.

Dave Louis Falgout, a retired security officer, died Sunday at Terrebonne General Hospital. He was 84. Mr. Falgout was a lifelong resident of Raceland. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Survivors include a son, Daniel "Danny" Falgout; two stepsons, Garield and Jerry Billot; two stepdaughters, Diana Billot and Deanna Rivet; three grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nine step-great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Samart Funeral Home in Raceland. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery.

Ralph E. Erwin, owner of Reeco Well Service, died Wednesday at Covent Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, of complications due to a blood clot. He was 72. Mr. Erwin was born in Nimrod, Texas, and lived in Hobbs, N.M., for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Masonic Order, the Shriners, the Hobbs Bass Club, Hobbs Moose Lodge No. 2084 and First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Faye Erwin; two sons, Dickie Lee and Ron Edwin Erwin of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Donna Ree Adams of Lubbock, Denise Monk-Simmons of New Orleans and Belinda Jean Sharp of Hobbs, N.M.; two sisters, Louise Foster of Crossplains, Texas, and Annette Ege of Smithville, Texas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Hobbs. Visitation will be today from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Home in Hobbs. Burial will be in Prairie Haven Memorial Park in Hobbs.

Sylvia Smith Clark, a homemaker, died Sunday of complications due to a stroke at Slidell Memorial Hospital. She was 69. Mrs. Clark was born in Picayune, Miss., and lived in Slidell. Survivors include her husband, Fred Clark; a son, Fred L. Clark; two daughters, Judy Lynn Rucker and Stephanie Lynn Clark; and two grandchildren. A funeral was held Monday at Williams Funeral Home in Pearl River. Burial was in Sycamore cemetery, Picayune.

Philip Joseph Burregi, a retired Jefferson Parish school bus driver and barbershop owner, died Saturday of lung cancer at his home. He was 75. Mr. Burregi was born in Independence and lived in Marrero for the past 56 years. He was an Army veteran. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4222, the Italian-American Society and the Marrero-Ragusa Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Linda Baudean Burregi; a son, Salvadore J. Burregi; two daughters, Vita Burregi Landry and Maydell Burregi Smith; three stepsons, Aristille, Norbert and Robert Carriere; two brothers, Joseph and Sam Burregi Jr.; a sister, Margaret Burregi Andrus; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Andrew Pierre "Turkeyman" Brett, a student, died Sunday at St. Tammany Parish Hospital of injuries suffered in a go-cart accident. He was 8 and was a lifelong resident of Covington. He attended St. Peter's School. He was a Wolf Cub in Pack No. 160, Den No. 9. Survivors include his father, Alexander Holmes Brett Jr.; his mother, Kimberly Renee Bennett Brett; a sister, Meagan Elizabeth Brett; and grandparents, Eddie and Patricia Walch, Pierre and Geri Dubroc and Roger and Ann Bennett. Olden Joseph Borne, a retired printer for O'Dounell Brothers Printing, died Sunday at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 79. Mr. Borne was born in Thibodaux and lived in Metairie for the past seven years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a former member of the American Legion, Ed Brauner Post No. 307, was a member of American Legion Post No. 175 and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, Post John P. April No. 33. Survivors include his wife, Mary Rose Boudreaux; three daughters, Sandra Borne Gaubert of Thibodaux, Linda Borne Dieck and Cynthia Borne Lopinto; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said Wednesday at noon at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery in Thibodaux.

Shirley Carubba Ballatin, a retired employee of Commonwealth Savings and Loan, died Monday at home. She was 80. Mrs. Ballatin ws born in Metairie and was a lifelong resident of Jefferson Parish. She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel Academy and attended the University of New Orleans. Survivors include a son, John Jules Ballatin; and a grandchild. A Mass will be said Wednesday at 11 a.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel, 5300 Canal Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenwood cemetery.

Funeral services are planned today and Friday for a prominent New Orleanian.
A funeral for Frank Bennett Williams, an oil, gas and land entrepreneur and avid sportsman and conservationist, will be today.
Mr. Williams, past president and chairman of the board of Williams Inc., died Monday. He was 80. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, he was a director and past president of City Center Realty Co. and past president of Ecrevisse Acadienne. He was chairman of the Wildlife Preserve Foundation in Pearlington, Miss., senior vice president of Ducks Unlimited, a former member and vice president of the North America Wildlife Foundation and past president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission. He was a member of the Boston Club, the Pickwick Club, the Biltmore Forest Country Club and the New Orleans Country Club, where he served on the board of directors and was a former chairman of the greens committee. He also belonged to several Carnival organizations, and won several Louisiana shooting championships.
A funeral for Mr. Williams will be today at 1 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in Metairie cemetery.
Lois Francis Johnson Ivey

The body of Lois Francis Johnson Ivey, a New Orleans activist, will lie in state today at Gallier Hall, and her funeral will be Friday morning.
Mrs. Ivey, known as the "eighth member of the City Council, " died Friday of cancer at her home. She was 80. She was born in Oakdale and lived in New Orleans for many years. She graduated from McDonogh No. 35 High School and Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she began her lifelong career in political activism. She worked for the government as a statistician with the Census Bureau, a junior psychologist with the Army Human Engineering Laboratory and an engineering examiner with the Bureau of Printing. She returned to New Orleans in 1981 and soon immersed herself in community issues and political campaigns. She was appointed to the city's Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday commission, and in 1986 Mayor Sidney Barthelemy named her to the city's first task force on the homeless.
She received dozens of service awards, including an NAACP community service award, a National Association of Black Elected County Officials community service award and the YWCA Role Model Award.
