James Emery Smith, a mechanic in the oil field industry, died Monday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Lafayette. He was 59. Mr. Smith was born in Bogalusa and lived in Abita Springs for the past 27 years. He served in the Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Martha Rogers Smith; two daughters, Melissa Hendershot and Michelle Phelps; a brother, Sidney Smith; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington. Visitation will be today from noon to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Abita Springs cemetery.

Harold James Lewis Sr., a police captain at Charity Hospital, died Friday of heart failure at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 61. Mr. Lewis was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a graduate of Walter L. Cohen High School. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Alberta Lewis; two sons, Harold Jr. and Garold Lewis Sr.; two daughters, Audra Lewis and Aretha Craft; and five grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.
HOLLIS, GLEN ‘GARY' LEE SR.

Glen "Gary" Lee Hollis Sr., a welder, died Feb. 27 of liver failure at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. He was 51. Mr. Hollis was born in Atlanta and lived in Gretna for the past 40 years. Survivors include his wife, Susan Nasbinder Hollis; a son, Glen Lee Hollis Jr.; a daughter, Donna M. Spahr; his father, Oscar G. Hollis; his mother, Mary Ruth Hollis; and a grandchild. A Mass will be said Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 610 Sixth Street, Gretna.
HENRITZY, SISTER CLAIRE GERMAINE CSJ

Sister Claire Germaine Henritzy, a school principal and teacher, died Monday of cancer at Memorial Medical Center. She was 85. Sister Claire Germaine was born Myrtle Bernice Henritzy in Daisy and lived in New Orleans for the past 25 years. She attended St. Joseph Academy, graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans and received a master's degree in English from the Catholic University of America. She entered the order of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1938 in New Orleans and pronounced her vows in 1939 in New Orleans. She began her ministry in education and taught at the St. Joseph academies in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, New Roads and Bay St. Louis. She spent eight years as a teacher and 22 years as principal at the St. Joseph Academy in Baton Rouge. She was the diocesan supervisor for Baton Rouge for a year and also taught at the newly constructed Louisiana Arts and Science Center for two years. After serving as the province secretary for the Sisters of St. Joseph, she returned as principal at the Sisters of St. Joseph School in New Orleans. Upon retiring from education in 1985, Sister Claire Germaine worked in the senior citizen ministry at St. Angela Merici for 11 years. She received the Religious of the Year Award in 1994 from the Associated Catholic Charities. She retired to live at St. Joseph Convent after 11 years of service at St. Angela Merici. A Mass will be held today at 10 a.m. at Sisters of St. Joseph Chapel, 1200 Mirabeau Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Louis cemetery No. 3. Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
GUEVARA, ANTONIO JR.

Antonio Guevara Jr., a retired mud engineer, died Feb. 24 at his home. He was 76. Mr. Guevara was born in Sherman, Texas, and lived in Mexico for many years and in Gretna for the past 15 years. He graduated from Sherman High School and attended Texas A&M; University. He was a former employee of Layne and Bowler Co. of Houston and a former mud engineer for NL Bariod, working in the United States, Mexico and Libya. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Medal. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Texas Chapter No. 2772, and a distinguished member of the Order of Mighty Mine Dodgers. Survivors include his wife, Marina Farga Guevara; a son, Andres Guevara; a brother, Andy Guevara; a sister, Rosa Guevara; and two grandchildren. A Mass was said Monday at Mothe Funeral Home in Harvey. Burial was in Biloxi National cemetery in Biloxi, Miss.

Leaette Hines Crockett, a retired recruiter with the Southeast Blood Center in New Orleans, died Tuesday of cancer at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was 66. Mrs. Crockett was born in Tylertown, Miss., and lived in Hammond. Survivors include her husband, Ralph F. Crockett; two sons, William G. Crockett II of New Orleans and Ralph R. Crockett Jr.; a daughter, Sue C. Miller; five brothers, Doyle Hines and James Ingram of Bogalusa, W.T. "Bill" Ingram of Folsom and John Hines and Harlon Ingram; two sisters, Pat Henley of Bogalusa and Mary Ruth Popwell of Tylertown; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be held Thursday at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond. Visitation will be today from 6 to 10 p.m. and Thursday beginning at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Nicholas J. Caruso Sr., a retired business manager of TAC Amusement Co. for more than 40 years, died Sunday of congestive heart failure at his home. He was 79. Mr. Caruso was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 14 years. He graduated from S.J. Peters High School. He was a member of the Altar Boys Society of St. John the Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Caruso; three sons, Lester, Randy and Nick Caruso of Katy, Texas; two daughters, Kim Durr of Mandeville and Jean Bizette; a brother, Joe Caruso of New Orleans; a sister, Conchetta Giovingo; and 11 grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Margaret "Marg" Lessepps Smith Young, a homemaker, died Tuesday at Meadowcrest Hospital. She was 95. Mrs. Young was born in Ironton and lived in Algiers for many years. She was a member of Second Good Hope Baptist Church and Ladies Perseverance Benevolent Association. Survivors include three sons, Ellis Young Sr. of Bressler, Penn., Oliver Young Sr., and Clarence Young Jr.; four daughters, Daisy Mae Young James, and Kitty Mae, Selina and Irene Young; 30 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Murray Henderson Funeral Home, 1209 Teche St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in McDonoghville cemetery in Gretna.

Ruby Marie Williams, a homemaker, died Friday at Metropolitan Hospice. She was 85. Mrs. Williams was born in Echo, Pa., and lived in Jefferson for many years. She served in the Army as a nurse during World War II. Survivors include a son, Robert John Williams; a daughter, Beverly Williams Garrity; a brother, Ray Schrecengost; two sisters, Violet Pentz and Alda Piazza; and two grandchildren. Anthony Paul Roppolo, a retired employee of Carey Limousine in New York City, died March 15 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Warwick, N.Y. He was 88. Mr. Roppolo was born in Kentwood and lived in Warwick for many years. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church and the New York State Civil Service Employee Association. Survivors include two sons, Anthony J. Roppolo of St. Augustine, Fla., and John G. Roppolo of Lafayette, N.J.; a daughter, Beverly Maggio of Metairie; a sister, Rose Pixton of Palm Springs, Calif.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass was said Wednesday at St. Stephen's Church in Warwick. Burial was in Warwick cemetery. Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home in Warwick handled arrangements.

Peter Firmin Reynaud died Tuesday of pulmonary disease at Kenner Regional Medical Center. He was 62. Mr. Reynaud was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Tulane University and Nicholls State University. Survivors include a brother, Sidney Louis Reynaud Jr., and a sister, Susan St. Martin Reynaud. A funeral was held Thursday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Burial was in Metairie cemetery.

April Marie Jefferson, a student at Sarah T. Reed High School, died Friday after being struck by a train near Haynes Boulevard. She was 15. Miss Jefferson was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She attended C.J. Colton Junior High School. Survivors include her father, Ronald Comadore; her mother, Contessa Dugas Comadore; two brothers, Dwayne Alexander and Michael Wright; four sisters, LaKeisha, Shawanda, Sharonda and Tiffany Woods; and her grandparents, Althea and Louis Stewart. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tharp-Sontheimer-Laudumiey Funeral Home, 5001 Chef Menteur Highway. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
