Effie DeSoto Guillory Fisher, 83, of Metairie died June 25, 2001 at her home after a brief illness. Born August 9, 1917 in Rapides Parish, she was the daughter of the late Firmin DeSoto, Jr. and Estelle DeSoto. She is preceded in death by her second husband, Manuel Fisher, Sr.; one sister, Mary Meadows; one brother, Hannan DeSoto and one son Dale. Survivors include two daughters, Ardean Alexander of Metairie and Marie Stevens of Severn, Maryland, three sisters, Euna Barrios, Verlie Bates and Lessie Rutledge, four brothers, Larry, Vernon, Signa and Cecil DeSoto, eight grandchildren, fifteen Great grandchildren and one Great great grandchild. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie cemetery) on Friday, June 29, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private. LLOYD
Harlan Ray ""Pee Wee" Lloyd passed away Sunday, June 24, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is most notable for his partnership in owning West Esplanade Shell Station, ""America's Largest Shell Station" in Metairie, LA from the early 1970's through the mid 90's until retirement. An avid fisherman, he competed for many years in the B.A.S.S. Tournament circuit around the country. A graduate of Bogalusa High School, he was a member of the United States Coast Guard. Preceding him in death were his parents, James Clifford and Eliza Kindy Lloyd; three brothers, Elmer, Virgil and Adrian Lloyd. He is survived by a daughter Rashann L. Fontenot, her mother Shannon D. Sandifer, and his son-in-law Ted A. Fontenot, all of Houston, Texas. Also survived by a son, Clifford R. Lloyd and daughter Nichole M. Lloyd and their mother Stephanie Lloyd of Mandeville, LA along with numerous other family members and friends. Funeral services will be conducted from the Chapel of Brown-McGehee Funeral Home on Friday, June 29, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Bob Adams, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa officiating. Interment will follow in Hillview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. Shirley Stiles Voorhis, a native of New Orleans, at her home in Los Angeles, CA. on Friday, June 15, 2001. She was the daughter of the late James Reese Stiles and the late Mildred Leithman Stiles, both native and life long residents of New Orleans, and sister of the late James R. Stiles, Jr. of Billings, MT. She was the beloved wife of the late George B. Voorhis, Jr. Two nieces, Mrs. Camille Trudeau of New Orleans, LA. and Mrs. Elizabeth Connaghan of Billings, MT. and two nephews Edward and Michael Stiles, also of Billings, MT. and three stepdaughters, Irene O. Counts of St. Louis, MO., Karen V.B. Jacobs of Covina, CA. and Eleanor S. Kunnavatana of Sylmar, CA., survive her. Mrs. Voorhis was a retired executive secretary for Parsons Engineering where she was employed for 38 years.

Justin Christopher Johnston, on Monday, June 25, 2001 at 9:00 pm, passed away from Brainstem Glioma. He was 9 years old. He is the beloved son of Chanlene Elizabeth Johnston. Step-son of Jesse Melendez. Brother of Anthony, Jeremy, Brandon, Aaron, Bridget and Alexis Johnston and Miriah Melendez. Grandson of Beatrice Castillo the late Sylvia Rubion. Nephew of Kenneth Johnston, Diane Baldwin, Tammy Esters and Lisa Leclerc. Also survived by a host of cousins and friends. Clara Mary Crull, age 95, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Luther Crull and Clara Mary Daigre Crull, and two brothers and one sister. She is survived by a sister, Estelle Crull Rester, nine nieces and nephews and 34 great nieces and great nephews and many cousins. She was born in New Orleans and lived most of her life in Bogalusa, LA and Long Beach, MS. She taught elementary school for over 50 years at Northside Grammar School in Bogalusa and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. After her retirement, she engaged for many years as a volunteer and caseworker for an elderly assistance program on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass to be celebrated at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5200 Canal Blvd. (former site of Lenfant's) on Saturday, June 30, 2001 at 11:00 AM.
