Dr. Lester "Pete" Peterman
FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Dr. Lester "Pete" Peterman, 60, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Today at Young's Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with Reverend Bobby Cruse and Denny Braswell officiating.
Interment will follow at Church Hill United Methodist Church cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.
Dr. Peterman was a resident of Ferriday, a former Concordia Parish School Superintendent, and a member of the Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Dr. Peterman began his formal education and received his bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University, He received his masters from the University of Louisiana-Monroe, and obtained his PHD from Northwestern State University.
He was preceded in death by: Father, Lester Leonard Peterman, Sr.
Survivors include: Wife, Loretta Peterman of Ferriday; Step-daughter, Krystle Coleman of Ferriday; Daughter, Tracy Kinnet and husband Joey of Hernando, Ms; Son, Nick Peterman and wife Emily of Church Hill, Ms; Son Mark Peterman and fiance' Vanessa Sandel of Baton Rouge; and their Mother, Leinda Peterman of Natchez; Grandchildren, Megan, Tiffany, Jordan, & Sarah Kinnet, Lindsey & Halle Peterman; Aunt, Ellyn Stewart.
The Pallbearers will be Dale Bourgeois, Eddie Boone, Sam Matson, H.L. Irvin, Gary Parnham, Fred Marsalis, Fred T. Butcher and Jackie Johnston.
Memorial donations can be made to the Lester Peterman Scholarship Fund at the Concordia Parish School Board.\
Melba Aline Wilson Turner
FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Melba Aline Wilson Turner, 80, of Ridgeland, who died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Young's Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday.
Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was a native of Oklahoma City and she graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City and Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Her baccalaureate degree was in art. She moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma, where she worked with American soldiers injured in World War II at the Borden General Hospital as an occupational therapist. There she met Billy turner from Marengo Bend Plantation near Ferriday, LA, and they were married
in Coral Gables, FL. She and Billy moved to Spokane Plantation on Lake St. John near Ferriday, where she became a third grade teacher in the Ferriday public school system. After her retirement from teaching, she became active in the Ferriday Garden Club and the Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez. She and Billy were active in the parents' organization of Sewanee Military Academy in Sewanee, TN. She founded The Lagniappe, an art studio, in Ferriday.
Ms. Turner moved with her husband to Sun City, AZ, where she was active in various arts organizations. Following the onset of a debilitating illness, she moved to Ridgeland, to be nearer to her sons.
Survivors are her two sons, Robert James Turner of New Orleans, LA and Dr. William Wood Turner, Jr. of Brandon and her daughter-in-law, Rosemary (Toni) Wurster Chandler Turner of Brandon.
Memorials may be made to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, 2500 N. State St., Jackson, MS.
Virginia Wise Morgan
SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside services for Virginia Wise Morgan, 85, who died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, were held at 9 a.m. Jan. 28 at Forest Park cemetery followed by a chapel service at at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport where the Rev. Bryan McDowell officiated.
She was a lifelong resident of Shreveport and a member of a prominent Shreveport pioneer family. She attended Centenary College and had been an active alum for her sorority Zeta Tau Alpha. She had also been a member of the Shreveport Junior League which she served faithfully as an active member and a sustainer. She was a bookkeeper for the family business, Morgan Lumber Company, Inc.
Survivors include her sons, Tom Morgan and wife, Peggy of Houston, TX, Dr. Mal Morgan and wife, Lana of Natchez; and daughter, Ann Morgan and friend, Johnett Wateman of Shreveport; grandchildren, Westley Morgan Owens and husband, William of Metcalf, Brandon Morgan and wife, Ashley of Baton Rouge, LA, Lindsay Morgan Devening and husband, Will of Natchez and Ford Morgan of Houston, TX; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Catherine and Alex Owens; brother, Wes Wise and wife, Sally of Dallas, TX.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren and their spouses.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Friday Bridge Club.

HARRISONBURG, LA - Graveside services for Karen Sones, 45, of Jonesville, LA, who died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, in Jonesville, will be at 11 a.m. today at Harrisonburg cemetery with the Rev. Doug Silvey officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Ms. Sones was born July 12, 1958, in Jonesville, the daughter of Harold Sones, Sr. and Phyllis D. Sones.
Louise Ensminger Newman
FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Louise Ensminger Newman, 81, of Monterey, who died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at her residence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Young's Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Rev. Wayne Gray officiating.
Burial will be in South Central cemetery in Wisner under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Ferriday.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at he funeral home.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Ferriday. She was also a former member of the Ferriday Garden Club and a volunteer Pink Lady at Riverland Medical Center.
Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her father, W.E. Ensminger; her mother, Stella (Ferrington) Ensminger; six sisters and four brothers; grandchild, Dustin Thomas Seguin; son-in-law, Lloyd Seguin, Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Newman of Monterey; two daughters, Carolyn and husband, Zane Boykin of Southhaven and Tammy (Newman) Abernathy of Ferriday; one sister, Rosa Lee Savioe of Houma, LA; three grandsons, Tommy Boykin, Scott Boykin and Derick Seguin; one granddaughter, Audra Trimble; two great-grandsons, Blane Pecanty and Caleb Trimble; two great-granddaughters, Sabina Boykin and Ashley Boykin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Marion Newman, Ernie Newman, Tim Tisdale, Ken Ensminger, Mark Ensminger and Tommy Ensminger.
Robert Lee Wyant
FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Robert Lee Wyant, 70, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Pineville, LA, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Young's Funeral Home Chapel of Ferriday with the Rev. Corky Evans officiating.
Burial will be at New Zion cemetery in Aimwell, LA under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was a truck driver and a Baptist.
Mr. Wyant was preceded in death by his father, Tom Wyant; mother, Lottie Wyant, three brothers, Pat Wyant, Clifton Wyant and Infant Wyant; sister, Lottie Wyant.
Survivors include wife, Louise Wyant of Ferriday; three daughters, Judy Hampton and Pam Eames and husband, David, all of Ferriday and Vickie Jowers of Vidalia; faithful companion, Penny; two granddaughters, Jennifer Gardner and Kayleigh Jowers; three grandsons, Brandon Gardner, Michael Hampton and Steven Eames; five brothers, Lane Wyant and Sidney Wyant of Jena, LA, Marvin Wyant of Rhinehart, LA, Jack Wyant of Jena and Tony Wyant of Enterprise, LA.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Gardner, Michael Hampton, Steven Eames, Gregory Wyant, Jason Wyant and Jimmy Eames.

Helen Barksdale

VIDALIA, LA - Services for Helen Barksdale, 88, of Lakewood, WA formerly of Vidalia, who died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in Lakewood, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Young's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Vidalia with the Rev. Shep Bethley officiating.
Burial will be in the Natchez National cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Barksdale was born March 2, 1915, in Ferriday, the daughter of Rev. Robert and Emma Johnson Brown.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Barksdale was preceded in death by her husband, Claiborne Barksdale and one daughter, Emma Jean Scott.
Survivors include one daughter, Margie N. Mayberry and husband, Arthur of Lakewood; grandson, Arthur "Rickie" Mayberry; one sister, Lillian Burel; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Martha Ellen Coenen Seaman
July 7, 1912 - Jan. 25, 2004
NEWELLTON, LA - Graveside services for Martha Ellen Coenen Seaman, who died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, in Shreveport, LA, will be at 11 a.m. today at Legion Memorial cemetery in Newellton with Father Jamie Medina officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Mrs. Seaman was born July 7, 1912, in Rayville, LA.
She was a graduate of Rayville High School. Her favorite career was being a wife, mother and grandmother, which she loved dearly. To all that knew her, yard work was her favorite past time.
Mrs. Seaman was preceded in death by her husband, Sheriff W.M. "Mac" Seaman; parents, Harry John Coenen and Martha Mattingly Coenen; brothers, George, Henry and Jon Coenen; and son-in-law, Lloyd H. Perkins.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha "Sweetie" Perkins and Ritsy Prince and husband, Keith; two sons, W.M. Kenzie Seaman and wife, JoAnn and David B. Seaman and wife, Cecile; grandchildren, Buddy, Bill and Dorothy Perkins, Will, Bob, Phillip and Martha Jane "Marti" Seaman, Amy and Michael Prince; and six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Levator (Hiles) Klean
BATON ROUGE, LA - Services for Levator (Hiles) Klean of Baton Rouge, who died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater King David Baptist Church, 222 Blount Rd., Baton Rouge.
Burial will be in Chapman's Family cemetery, Bay Ridge Road.
She was a native of Woodville.

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Lucille F. Forman, 83, of Monterey, LA, who died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Young's Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with the Revs. Kevin Sims, Steve Roark and Gordon Finley officiating.
Burial will be in the Forman Family cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Ferriday.
She was a homemaker and a member of Monterey First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Forman was preceded in death by her husband, T.H. "Bud" Forman, Jr.; father, Danial Scott Fedric; mother, Numa Fedric Crawford; two sisters, Harriet Sullivan and Mamie Sheesley; two sons, Bobby Scott Forman and T.H. "Teddy" Forman; and granddaughter, Candy Forman.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda and husband, Jimmy Trant and Georgia and husband, C.C. Dison, all of Monterey; nine grandchildren, Henry King, Mignonne F. Ater, Stacey Roach, Gigi Campbell, Jimbo Trant, Monica Hodges, Misty Little, CeCe Byrd and Kim Delaney; brother-in-law, Honeycutt Forman; sister-in-law, Marian Burley; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Forman.

Ray C. Swillie

VIDALIA, LA - Services for Ray C. Swillie, 54, of Angola, LA, who died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in Angola, will be at 11 a.m. today at Young's Funeral Home Chapel Vidalia with the Revs. Dewayne Anthony, Glen Walker and Warden David Kelone officiating.
Burial will be in the Natchez National cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Vidalia.
He served two tours of duty with the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam where he was a company and platoon leader. He was a member of the L.S.P., Honor Guard, LSP T.A.C.T. team and was also a certified narcotics dog handler.
Mr. Swillie was preceded in death by his father, Wonnie Swillie; his mother, Addie Lee Swillie; and brother, Dan Swillie.
Survivors include his wife, Polly Swillie of Angola; three sons, David Ray Swillie of Baton Rouge, LA, Justin Ray Swillie of Natchez and Jason David Nettles of Woodville; step-grandson, Hunter Keton Nettles of Prairieville, LA; three brothers, C.J. Swillie of Vidalia, James Williams Swillie of Natchez and Corky Ables Swillie of Ferriday, LA.

Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Ferriday.
Mr. Smith was born July 25, 1938, in Oak Grove, LA.
He was a manager for Masco Wireline where he was employed for 38 years and he was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Carolee Smith of Clayton; two sons, Jody and Melissa Smith of Ferriday and Danny Wayne and Cookie Smith of Monterey, LA; daughter, Tammy and Wayne Thompson of Clayton; grandchildren, Josh Smith, Cory Smith, Mara Thompson and Baler Smith; step-grandchildren, Alisha Orcutt and Bud Orcutt.
Pallbearers will be Gary McIntosh, Tommy Ray Smith, Scott Walker, Eddie Roberts, Donnie Ater, Tim Adams, Barton McIntosh and Toby McIntosh.
