FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Juanita Lucas Ulmer, 82, of Waterproof, La., who died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at North Monroe Medical Center in Monroe, La., will be at 2 p.m. today at Young's Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Legion Memorial cemetery in Newellton, La. under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ulmer was born Sept. 19, 1920, in East Prairie, Mo.
She was retired from Bank of Saint Joseph and a member of Tensas First Baptist Church, Bruin Vidal Chapter of Daughters of the Revolution, First Methodist Church of Waterproof's Women Circle and Tensas Home Demostration Club.
Mrs. Ulmer was preceded in death by her husband, Ferman Franklin Ulmer; her father, John Lucas, Sr.; her mother, Edith (Cullum) Lucas; and two sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Ulmer Ledoux and her husband, Bill, both of Monroe; one son, Ferman Ulmer Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, both of Ferriday; one brother, John Lucas and his wife, Betty, both of Ruston, La.; one sister, Iris L. Eaton of Baskin, La.; four grandchildren, Paige Ensminger and spouse, Rex and Scott Ledoux, all of Monroe, La., Lori Mitchell and spouse, Craig, both of Nashville, Tenn. and Kelly Ulmer of Alexandria, La.; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer Ensminger, Sarah Ledoux, Patrick Ensminger, Clayton Mitchell and Paxton Mitchell.
Pallbearers will be Jack Hopkins, Bobby Wallace, Mike Marten, Chris Daves, Walter Butler and Rex Ensminger.

Mrs. Blackmon was born January 9, 1922, in Clayton La.
She was a nurse's aide and a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
Mrs. Blackmon was preceded in death by Husband, Hardie Allen Blackmon; father Samuel Benton Hinton; mother Suzanne Adeline (Ashley) Hinton; brother, John William Hinton; brother, Robert Bob Hinton.

WILDSVILLE, La. - Services for Gracie White, 76, of Ferriday, La., who died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be a 11 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Shep Bethley officiating.
Burial will be in New Daughters cemetery in Wildsville under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Ms. White was born March 12, 1927, in Ferriday.
Survivors include five daughters, Pauline White, Patricia White and Rosie Ward, all of Ferriday, Mary Hawkins of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Arlene Anderson of Vicksburg; three sons, Williams White of Atlanta, Ga., Charles White of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and David White of New Orleans, La.; three sisters, Rowena and Amanda Madison, both of Jonesville, La. and Millie White of Ferriday; 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Lester L. Summerell
Jan. 9, 1920 - June 30, 2003
BATON ROUGE, La. - Services for Lester L. Summerell, 83, who died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Sherwood Manor N.H., will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Rabenhorst Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Carver officiating.
Private graveside services will be Saturday under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Summerell was born Jan. 9, 1920, in McGehee, Ark., the son of Harvey Lee and Oler Edith Osborn Summerell.
He was a loving and beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. In 1923, he and his family moved to Ferriday, La. where he attended school, graduating from Ferriday High School. Shortly before Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the battleship USS Maryland BB46 until October, 1945. Lester learned hands-on automotive repair in his father's shop, Diamond D. Garage, in Ferriday, He loved the sound of a properly tuned engine. After moving to Baton Rouge in 1947, he continued to update his knowledge and ability to service all makes of cars. He owned and operated Fairfields Auto Service for over 35 years. Even after debilitating health prevented his working, his mind and his hands continued to repair cars.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nelson and Thomas Lee Summerell; and a nephew, Clarence Lee Summerell.
Survivors include his wife, Dora; his children and their spouses, Lester Jr. "Jack" and Denise, Lynn and Carlos Droescher, Karen and Charlie Egedy and Lisa and Mike Keeley; his grandchildren, Lauren Egedy, Brian Egedy, Carolyn Droescher Pixley, John, James, Catherine and Ruth Droescher, Lon-Michael and Jacqueline "Jackie" Keeley; and his great-grandchildren, Kristin Byrd, James, Michaela and Drew Pixley; church family at Presbyterian Church; and special friends, Ed and Gloria Davis and Larry and Jeanie Gremillion.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the USS Maryland BB-46.

Walter R. Grayson

CLAYTON, La. - Services for Walter R. "Buddy" Grayson, 77, of Clayton, who died Saturday, June 28, 2003, in Baton Rouge, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Clayton Baptist Church with the Rev. John Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in Holly Grove cemetery near Wisner under the direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Grayson was born April 4, 1926, in Tallulah.
He was the manager of Pik Quik stores and the Big Star Grocery in Vidalia and Ferriday. He was a World War II veteran and a member of Clayton Baptist Church and had lived in Concordia Parish for 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia "Sunny" Bird Grayson; one granddaughter, Catheron Colleen Arnold; and one son, Walter D. Grayson.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ellen Hopkins and her husband, Hardy of Prairieville, La., and Ann Page Arnold and her husband, Don, of Atlanta; one daughter-in-law, Laurie Grayson of Virginia, Minn.; six grandchildren, Emily Arnold and her husband, Brian, Ian Arnold, Jeff Hopkins and his wife, Sue, Kim Hopkins, Ashley Grayson and Shania Grayson; and three great-grandchildren, Krystie Hoffman, Hannah Hopkins and Clay Hopkins.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hopkins, Ian Arnold, Brian Heck, John Bird, Joe Pike and Ronnie Martin.

Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 13, 1954, in Jonesville, the son of Odell Johnson and Classie Mackey.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Baptist.

Mrs. Anderson was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Waterproof, La., the daughter of Sam Webb and Florence Nelson Webb.
She was a retired nurse's assistant.

JONESVILLE, La. - Services for Joseph Cowart, 89, of Jonesville, who died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Young's Funeral Home with Dr. Ralph Webber officiating.
Burial will follow at Westlawn cemetery in Gretna under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Emma Lee "Emily" S. Bruno
ST. JOSEPH, La. -- Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Lee "Emily" S. Bruno, age 92, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2003, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph, Louisiana, with Father Jacob Thomas and Father John Cunningham officiating.
Burial will follow in the Natchez cemetery under the direction of Crothes-Glenwood Funeral Home of Tallulah. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Mrs. Bruno died Friday, Nov. 28th, 2003, in the Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah following a length illness.
She was born in Utica, Mississippi, and had lived in St. Joseph since 1929.
Mrs. Bruno was in the grocery business, ran a bakery, and a movie theater business between 1930 and 1947.
In 1947, she opened Emily House Restaurant, and operated it for 50 years. She was a member and officer of the Tensas Garden Club for 68 years.
Mrs. Bruno was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Altar Society.
In 1990, she received the Diocesan Bishop's Medal. She received the D.A.R. Medal, and had "Miss Emily Day" proclaimed on August 15, 1982, in St. Joseph. She received the Keys to the City.
Mrs. Bruno was truly a leader and a pillar of her community, and was loved by everyone who knew her.
Survivors include: one sister, Aline Williams of Bastrop, La.; four granddaughters, Charlotte Bruno Green of Tallulah, La., Margaret B. Berry of Monroe, La., Elizabeth B. Chiles of Longview, Texas, and Emily Anne McDonald of Swartz, La.; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Bruno; a son, Anthony N. Bruno; and daughter-in-law, Shirley M. Bruno.
Active pallbearers will be Robert Douglas, Nicholas Bruno Berry, Scott Watson, Harrison Rinehart, Sterling Blanche, Michael Vizard, Tommy Canizaro, Terry Dowdy and Buddy Hendrix.
