HARRISONBURG, La. -- Services for Helen Fairbanks Milton Turner, 76, of Jonesville, who died Monday, July 1, 2002, at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, will be at 2 p.m. today at Harrisonburg First Baptist Church with Dr. Ralph Webber and the Rev. Ed Cotton officiating.
Burial will be in the Harrisonburg cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Jonesville.
Mrs. Turner was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Lake Charles, the daughter of H.R. and Pearle King.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Milton, and her father.
Survivors include her husband, James H. Turner of Jonesville; her mother of Harrisonburg; two daughters, Susan Bath and her husband, Daniel, both of Fredonia, Kan., and Dianne Biskamp and her husband, Robert, both of Silsbee, Texas; for stepsons, Donald Turner of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jimmy Turner of Rountree, Texas, Robert Turner of Silsbee, Texas, and Ronald Turner of Colorado Springs; four stepdaughters, Ruby Alexander of Eva Dale, Texas, Sharon George of Colorado Springs, Tara Preist of Beaumont, Texas, and Misti Turner of Jonesville; three brothers, Routon A. Fairbanks of Monroe, H.R. King Jr. of Bastrop, La., and Ronald T. King Sr. of Harrisonburg; one sister, Mary K. Roberts of Georgia; five grandchildren, Patricia B. Cagle, Russell Brown, Kristopher D. Bath, Angelia Biskamp and Amy Bath Mensah; and five great-grandchildren, Coleen Cagle, Brandon Cagle, Alexis Tompkins, Isaac Bath and Gage Brown.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

JONESVILLE, La. -- Services for Wayne Squyres, 44, of Jonesville, who died Monday, July 1, 2002, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. today at Lake Lilly Baptist Church with the Revs. Frank Bass, Cecil Grantham and Roy Archer officiating.
Burial will be in the Heard cemetery in Manifest under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Jonesville.
Mr. Squyres was born March 23, 1958, in Jonesville, the son of Bobby Ray and Nola Jane Squyres
He was foreman for Blain Sand and Gravel, a member of Sandy Lake Volunteer Fire Department and assistant chief member of Sandy Lake First Response Unit.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Lynn Squyres of Jonesville; his parents of Jonesville; one daughter, Rachel Rachal and her husband, Roy Joe, both of Jonesville; one son, Michael Wayne Squyres of Jonesville; two brothers, David Ray Squyres Sr. and Robert Earl Squyres, both of Jonesville; one sister, Julia Kay Welch of Jena; one grandson, Hunter Sebastion Rachal of Jena; two granddaughters, Nora Nichole Rachal and Sarah Elizabeth Rachal, both Jena; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be R.J. Bordelon, Anthony Squyres, David Ray Squyres Jr., Landon Squyres and W.D. Thompson.
Hattie Carlton Hambrick
Sept. 15, 1915 -- July 2, 2002
FERRIDAY, La. -- Services for Hattie Carlton Hambrick, 86, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at her residence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sycamore Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard Cullum and Mack Walker officiating.
Burial will be in Evangeline Church cemetery in Wildsville under the direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Mrs. Hambrick was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Acme, the daughter of Peter and Dolly Bryan Gardner.
She was a homemaker, a member of Sycamore Baptist Church near Ferriday for 35 years and was a lifelong resident of Concordia Parish.
Mrs. Hambrick was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Carlton; three sons; and a daughter.
Survivors include four sons, Clifton Carlton and his wife, Elaine, both of Wildsville, Donnie Carlton and his wife, Lynn, both of Larto, David Carlton and his wife, Linda, both of Natchez, and Shelby Carlton and his wife, Sally, both of Ferriday; five daughters, Vera Sanford and her husband, Clyde, both of Ferriday, Elaine McEntyre and her husband, Jerry, both of Frogmore, Margie Carlos of Ferriday, Peggy Adams and her husband, Curtis, both of Monterey, and Sybil Nugent and her husband, Shelby, both of Ferriday; two stepchildren, Marilyn Quinn and Inez King, both of Baton Rouge; 38 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Herman E. Spinks
March 10, 1941 -- July 1, 2002
JONESVILLE, La. -- Services for Herman E. Spinks, 61, of Jonesville, who died Monday, July 1, 2002, in Jonesville, will be at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Revs. James Carson and Mickey Hudnall officiating.
Burial will be in Heard cemetery in Manifest under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Jonesville.
Mr. Spinks was born March 10, 1941, in Jonesville, Corey Calhoun and Ruth Mae Spinks.
He was retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development after 35 years of service, graduated from Block High School and attended Northwestern State University.
Mr. Spinks was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Spinks of Jonesville; one daughter, Amy Renee Huffman and her husband, Gerald II, both of Jonesville; one son, Denny Ray Spinks and his wife, Elizabeth, both of Jonesville; and five grandchildren, Malorie Huffman, Mia Huffman, Ty Huffman, Cameron Spinks and Carter Spinks, all of Jonesville.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Book, Jimmy Easterling, Wilbur McLauchlin, Ernie Reeves, Henry Arthur and H.C. White.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Barton, Wesley Bruce, Archie Cowan, Sonny Hodges, Clarence Mayes, Jackie McNeely, Morgan Sewell, Jimmy Smith, James Glen Kelly and Harvey Ray White.

Doris J. Miller Bowman
Feb. 24, 1922 - March 2, 2003
FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Doris J. Miller Bowman, 81, of Ferriday, who died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Church with the Revs. Willie Birdon and Shep Bethley officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ferriday cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Ms. Bowman was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Jackson, the daughter of Mary Cobb Miller and Charlie Miller.
She received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Jackson State University. She was employed as a teacher with Alcorn Preparatory School, Brookhaven schools and Concordia Parish schools, retiring in 1986. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where she was youth Sunday school teacher, vice president of the usher board and recording secretary of the usher's association. She was also a member of Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, Eastern Stars, Jackson State Alumni Association and Louisiana Retired Teacher's Association.
Survivors include three stepchildren, Ethel Bowman of Carrollton, Texas, Sarah Bowman of Ferriday and James E. Bowman of Fort Washington, Md.; two sisters, Gerald Abrams of Rantoul, Ill., and Vivian Gordon of New Orleans; three brothers, Oscar Gordon Jr. and Walter Gordon and his wife, Shirley, all of New Orleans, and Emory Gordon and his wife, Rebecca, both of Dover, Del.; one sister-in-law, Lucille Gordon of New Orleans; four grandchildren, Kenneth Bowman of Carrollton, Marcus Kennedy and Erika Bowman, both of Ferriday, and Andrewin Bowman of Galveston, Texas; one god-child and niece, Jean Curry; and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
Allen Owens

FROGMORE, La. - Services for Allen Owens, 91, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Alexandria, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. L. B. Oliver officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Owens was born June 15, 1911, in Jackson, the son of Jim and Jena Foster Owens. He was a retired farmer and a Baptist.
Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his wife, Charity Owens; one sister, Dorothy "Doll" Smith; and one grandson, Calvin D. Owens.
Survivors include one son, Calvin W. Owens, and his wife, Bobby, both of Alexandria; one brother, Calvin F. Owens of Ferriday; one sister, Wilma Cooper of Milwaukee, Wis.; two grandchildren, Petrina Owens of Alexandria and Bonita Almore of Bossier City; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Appleton B. Ratcliff Jr.
May 15, 1910 - March 4, 2003
FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Appleton Bonds Ratcliff Jr., 92, of Baton Rouge formerly of St. Joseph, who died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in Baton Rouge, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Comer Funeral Home with the Rev. Fulton McGraw officiating.
Burial will follow in Legion Memorial cemetery in Newellton under the direction of the funeral home.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Ratcliff was born May 15, 1910, in St. Joseph, the son of Appleton B. Sr. and Annie Muir Ratcliff.
He was a Baptist, a 32nd Degree Mason and a charter member of the Louisiana Department of Highway Engineers Association. He was an honorary member of the St. Joseph Rotary Club and served on the Board of Directors of Louisiana Good Roads Association. In 1980, he was inducted into the Hall of Honor of the Highway Department of Outstanding Service. He worked with the U.S. Corp of Engineers on low water surveys and levee construction in Concordia, Madison and Tensas parishes. He did U.S. geological survey mapping all of Southwest Louisiana from Alexandria to the gulf. He was a lifetime member of the American Association of State Highway Officials and a member of the Administrative Committee.
Mr. Ratcliff served on the Standing Committee of Engineer Policies and the Executive Committee and was vice president in 1973-1974. He worked for the Louisiana Department of Highwasy beginning in August 1935. There, he served in the capacity of project control engineer, office engineer, assistant chief engineer, chief engineer, assistant director and director, retiring in September 1974 with 40 years of service.
He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Louisiana Society of Professional Engineers of Civil Service, the American Road Builders Association and the American Public Works Association.
He was also a registered civil engineer and land surveyor. A few of his accomplishments were construction of the Simmesport bridge and the Krotz Springs bridge and being awarded a plaque for the design and the construction of the 17-mile stretch of interstate through the Atchafalya Basin between Port Allen and Lafayette. He set the design for the construction of the Luling-Destrehan bridge, now known as the Hale Boggs bridge, and secured approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation to build an elevated section of the interstate system from LaPlace to Ponchatoula.
Mr. Ratcliff was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Burford Ratcliff; his parents; two brothers, Wallace Vernon "Pat" Ratcliff and Russell Young Ratcliff Sr.; one sister, Caralyn Ratcliff Slaughter; and one niece, Betsy Bonds Ratcliff James.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Beard, and her husband, Don, both of Gulfport; two grandchildren, Deborah Kay Foster and her husband, Gene, and Connie Sue Donohoe and her husband, Mike, both of Tallahassee, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Amber Cochrane and Renee Donohoe; nieces and nephews, Mary Frances and Rusty Ellis and their children, Jennifer, Jason, David and Elizabeth, Anne Evans and her children, Bart, Helen, Tori and Megan, Russell Y. and Donna Ratcliff and their children, Russ and Brittany, Nancy and Andy Anders and children, Bridget, Rachel and Emily, Warren and Burnie Ratcliff and their children, Will, Mary, Miller and Egan, and Doug and Holly Ratcliff and their daughter, Taylor Anne, Mandy James, Mitzi Murphy, Dan James Jr., Mary Elizabeth James and W.R. Slaughter.

Marilyn Sue White

VIDALIA, La. - Services for Marilyn Sue White, 57, of Vidalia, who died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, in Kentwood, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ with the Rev. Don Tate officiating.
Burial will follow in Providence Memorial in Gilbert under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Vidalia.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ms. White was born July 24, 1945, in Delhi.
She was a member of Vidalia Church of Christ.
Ms. White was preceded in death by her father, Robert Elmer White.
Survivors include her mother, Mildred Howard White of Vidalia; one sister, Janet Cortez and her husband, Pete, both of Metairie; two brothers, Lynn White and his wife, Ruth, both of Kentwood, and Ralph White and his wife, Eva, both of Natchez; and a number of nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Bobbye McIntosh
Aug. 18, 1922 - March 5, 2003
FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Bobbye McIntosh, 80, of Ferriday, who died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Young's Funeral Home with the Rev. John Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. McIntosh was born Aug. 18, 1922, in Warren, Ark.
She was a member of Clayton First Baptist Church where she was in the choir. She was president of Masco Wireline Service and co-owner of McIntosh Farms and Clayton Cotton Gin. She was a member of the Concordia Parish Library Board for over 30 years and was a member of Ferriday Garden Club. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Riverland Medical Center.
Mrs. McIntosh was preceded in death by her husband, Glaston James "Big Mac" McIntosh; her father, James Barton Turner; her mother, Myrtle Bradley Turner; and one brother, Rufus Turner.
Survivors include one daughter, Nola Adams, and her husband, Tim, both of Ferriday; one son, Little Mac McIntosh, and his wife, Brenda, both of Clayton; one sister, Louise Scott of Ferriday; one brother, Loren Turner and his wife, Marie, both of Jasper, Texas; two granddaughers, Audra Magee and her husband, Mickey, both of Ferriday, and Natalie Pearson and her husband, Robert, both of Clayton; three grandsons, Barton McIntosh and his wife, Ashley and Madison McIntosh, all of Ferriday, and Toby McIntosh and his wife, Julie, both of Clayton; and eight great-grandchildren.

Clyde 'Son' Wright

VIDALIA, La. - Services for Clyde "Son" Wright, 72, of Vidalia, who died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Young's Funeral Home with Hershal Waller and Richard Cullum officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of the funeral home.

Mr. Wright was born March 1, 1930, in Montgomery, the son of Eddie and Eunice Wright.
He was a mechanic for Lake Charles Diesel for 25 years and a member of Riverside Baptist Church.
Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters, Shirlie Lowry and Janey Evans.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Wright; three sons, Ricky Wright of Vidalia, Kevin Wright of Lumberton and Jerry Wright of Brandon; two daughters, Vicki Cummings and Rhonda Richardson, both of Vidalia; four sisters, Eula Mae Rose, Mary Elliot and Judy Rose, all of Downsville, and Ruby Evans of Monroe; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Wright, Brad Wright, Dennis Rose, Charlie Varnado, Billy Cummings and Randy Collier.
Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Wright and Brandon Atkins.
