FERRIDAY, La. - Funeral arrangements for Leola Deloris Lee, 62, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Natchez Community Hospital, are incomplete at Concordia Funeral Home.

Endy Lawrence

Aug. 13, 1903 - Nov. 28, 2002

WATERPROOF, La. - Services for Endy Lawrence, 99, of Waterproof, who died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cypress Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Andrew Powell officiating.

Burial will follow in Myrtle Grove cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lawrence was born Aug. 13, 1903, in Waterproof, the daughter of Harvey and Mariah Bowman Ferguson.

She was a homemaker and a member and Mother's Board member of Cypress Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lawrence was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Lawrence.

Survivors include one son, Joseph Nelson of Waterproof; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Ross of Waterproof; one nephew, Roosevelt Bottley and his wife, Emma Lee, both of Waterproof; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Melvin J. Bardwell

ALEXANDRIA, La. - Services for Melvin J. Bardwell, 80, of Ferriday, who died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Alexandria, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Bethel cemetery in Holloway under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

He was retired from International Paper Co. in Natchez with 36 years of service, was a 32nd Degree Mason and 54-year member of Ferriday Masonic Lodge No. 390, F&AM.; He was a Shriner and a member of the Barak Shrine Temple in Monroe and the Concordia Moose Lodge. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gray Jordan Bardwell and Sarah Jane Wiley Bardwell; a grandson, Dustin Jordan Frantom; five sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Bardwell; one daughter, Donna Gayle Vogel of Alexandria; one grandson, Marshall Frantom; and one half-brother, J.H. Bardwell of Centerpoint.

Freddie Higginbottom

Funeral arrangements for Freddie Higginbottom, 67, of Waterproof, La., who died Friday, March 21, 2003, at Camelot Leisure Living Nursing Home in Ferriday, La., are incomplete at Concordia Funeral Home.

Earnest Leslie Waterman

May 26, 1926 - Jan. 28, 2003

FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Earnest Leslie Waterman, 76, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Comer Funeral Home with the Rev. Denny Braswell officiating.

Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Waterman was born May 26, 1926, in Vicksburg, the son of Hal and Lulu Ark Waterman.

He was a resident of Ferriday since 1958, a commercial fisherman and a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Hollis Edward Waterman; one sister, Loretta Rushing; and one niece, Patricia Bryant.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Louise Waterman; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Redman, Tracy Redman and Katherine Redman, all of Oklahoma City, Okla.; seven nieces, Annie Moss and Geraldine Waterman, both of Ferriday, Marie Waterman of Vidalia, Ida Holloway and Virginia Lee Waterman, both of Natchez , Linda Waterman Williams of Smith, Ala., and Loretta Harper of Gonzales, La.; three nephews, Andrew Edward Waterman of Oklahoma City and Hollis Edward Waterman and Earnest Leslie Waterman, both of Nashville, Tenn.

Pallbearers will be William Short, Earnest Waterman, Robby Moore, Jason Robinson, Freddie Clem Jr. and James Ola Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Gautieau, Nathan Gautieau, Terry Drummer and Hollis Waterman.

George Devonne Cupit

Feb. 16, 1931 - Jan. 27, 2003

VIDALIA, La. - Services for George Devonne Cupit, 71, of Vidalia, who died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Nunn officiating.

Burial will be in the Masonic cemetery in Crowville under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Vidalia.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Cupit was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Crowville.

He was an electrician and a member of First Baptist Church of Vidalia and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was president of the Recreation Board and the Dixie Youth League for many years. He retired from Johns Manville with more than 30 years of service and was a member of American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kelley C. Cupit; his mother, Mattie Mae Cupit; and one brother, O'Neal Cupit.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria J. Cupit; two sons, George D. Cupit Jr. of Natchez and Glen M. Cupit and his wife, Tammie, both of Berry, Ala.; one daughter, Susan D. Hinson and her husband, Denny, both of Vidalia; two sisters, Olla Mae Cupples of Alexandria and Martha Till of Delhi; four grandsons, Casey Cupit, Kameron Cupit, Brett Hinson and Matt Hinson; and two granddaughters, Paige Cupit and Peyton Cupit.

Pallbearers will be Kameron Cupit, Brett Hinson, Matt Hinson, Jerry Roberts, Gary Simpson and Mac Ware.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Archer, Recreation Board members, Casey Cupit, Paige Cupit, Peyton Cupit, members of the Vidalia High baseball and football teams, members of the Miss Lou Gators and Hendrix Laird.

Shirley Ann Evans

Sept. 25, 1951 -- July 17, 2002

CLAYTON, La. -- Graveside services for Shirley Ann Evans, 50, of Compton, Calif., formerly of Clayton, who died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at her residence will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Garden of Rest cemetery with Pastor Anthony Smith officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ms. Evans was born Sept. 25, 1951, in Natchez, the daughter of Archie Davis and Juanita Smith.

She was a data entry operator and a member of Jericho Missionary Baptist Church in Compton.

Ms. Evans was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include one son, Demetric Evans of Compton; one daughter, Tinisha Evans of Compton; one brother, James Archie Smith Sr. of Clayton; one sister, Betty Willingham of Rialto, Calif.; two nieces, Vernessa Cage and her husband, Renard, both of Ferriday, and Erica Rutland of Oklahoma City, Okla.; four great-nephews, James A. Smith Jr. of Clayton, and Tanner Cage, Brelin Cage and Scotty Cage, all of Ferriday; one sister-in-law, Carol Smith of Clayton; one uncle, James Smith of Compton; one aunt, Margaret Taylor of Clayton; and a number of cousins and other relatives.

Gladden Sanders

BATON ROUGE -- Services for Gladden "Sam" Sanders, 84, of Baton Rouge, who died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at his residence will be held at 1 p.m. today at Welsh Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Holcombe officiating.

Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Evergreen cemetery in Woodville under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Sanders was a retired auto body repairman and a gardner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Morris Sanders; three sons, John, Greg and James Sanders; two brothers, Clinton Sanders of Galliano and Hayward Sanders of Carthage; four grandsons, John Sanders Jr. of Natchez and Justin, Jeremy and Joshua Sanders, all of Baton Rouge; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Timothy, William and Eric Morris, Chad Covey, Ray Corbin, Johnny Brooks, John Sanders Jr. and Justin Sanders.

Charlie Carr

FERRIDAY, La. -- Services for Charlie Carr, 80, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in Monroe, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. L.B. Oliver officiating.

Burial will follow in Ferriday cemetery under the direction of Richardson and Sims Funeral Home.

A wake service will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Carr was a retired construction worker.

Survivors include one son, Charlie Joe Carr of Farmville; four daughters, Delores Thomas and Bobbie Carr of Ferriday and Jean Carr-Wilkerson and Lena Carr of Monroe; two sisters, Beatrice C. Gage of Ferriday and Loubertha Gorham of Monroe; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Viola Scales

Feb. 27, 1929 -- July 9, 2002

FERRIDAY, La. -- Services for Viola "Jeanette" Scales, 73, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Shep Bethley officiating.

Burial will be in the Ferriday cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Scales was born Feb. 27, 1929, in Clayton, the daughter of Williams and Rilla Watson Washington.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Mrs. Scales was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred Scales; one daughter, Linda Scales; one brother, Celmmon Watson; and two sisters, Geneva Snyder and Agnes "Mattie" Watson.

Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Scales of Jonesville; one brother, Allen Watson and his wife, Rose Nell, both of Ferriday; four sisters, Olivia Edwards of Las Vegas, George Anna Dixon and Marilyn Murray, both of Jonesville, and Joe Helen Lee of Ferriday; and four grandchildren, Stevie Scales, Sherika Scales, LaToya Scales and Jeremy Scales, all of Jonesville.

Elnora Jordan

Roosevelt Rollins Sr.

May 24, 1935 - Jan. 26, 2003

ST. JOSEPH, La. - Services for Roosevelt Rollins Sr., 67, of St. Joseph, who died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Shady Lake Nursing Home in Lake Providence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Isaiah Ross officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lakewood cemetery in St. Joseph under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday. Visitation is from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Rollins was born May 24, 1935, in St. Joseph, the son of Thomas Rollins and Emma Brown Williams.

He was a retired custodian for the St. Joseph Country Club Golf Course and a member of Flower Mount Baptist Church in St. Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gertrude Morris and Mary Bell Howard; two uncles; and three aunts.

Survivors include three sons, Roosevelt Rollins Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla., Lennex McGee of St. Joseph and Calvin Rollins of Belzoni; five daughters, Linda Rollins of Monroe, Wanda Sue Clark of Memphis, Tenn., Rosie Lee Rollins of Belzoni, Blanche Rollins of New Orleans and Carolyn Watson of Las Vegas; three sisters, Rosie Lee Clark and her husband, Hayes, both of Vicksburg, Racheal Branch of Tallulah and Evangelist Elnora White and her husband, the Rev. Joe White, both of Las Vegas; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Willie Mae Williams

July 15, 1909 - Jan. 26, 2003

FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Willie Mae Williams, 93, of Ferriday, who died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at noon Saturday at New Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Birdon officiating.

Burial will follow in Consuerella cemetery in Waterproof under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday. Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Williams was born July 15, 1909, in Shreveport. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John Baptist Church on Lake St. John and its Usher Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Williams Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Henry Williams and Jake Williams and his wife, Barbara, all of New Orleans; one cousin, the Rev. Johnnie Holins, and his family, all of Ferriday; one granddaughter, Pamela Williams of New Orleans; and a number of cousins and friends.
