ABBIE CUMMINS
Abbie Cummins, 93, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born Nov. 15, 1916 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Cleve and Nancy Click Cummins. She was a former cook at Beaumont Inn and the oldest member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, David (Linda) Cummins and Ricky Cummins, both of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren, Deanna (Rodney) Compton of Harrodsburg and Chris (Michelle) Cummins of Nicholasville; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her caregiver and Donna White .
She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Services were conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Queener officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery
with William Rogers, Bruce Sanders, Garnett Ruble, G. B. Royalty, Danny Rogers and Terry Pernell serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were employees and staff of Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Heritage Hall Nursing Home, 331 S Main Street, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342 or to ones favorite charity.
JERRY GALLIHER
Jerry Robert Galliher, 57, of Burgin, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010.
He was the son of the late Jessie Galliher and Anna Litchey Galliher. He was retired from the Lexington-Fayette County Urban Government and a member of the Kentucky Trailblazers.
Survivors include: a sister, Diane Locker of Lexington; two uncles, Bill Holmes of GA, and Robert Holmes of MI; an aunt, Joyce Mitchell of OH; a cousin and her husband, Carolyn and John T. Sherrow.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Betts and West Funeral Home in Nicholasville with Bro. James Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Burgin Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
LULIE HOGUE
Lulie Hogue, 73, wife of 51 years to Jack Hogue of Burgin, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born December 1, 1936 in Perry County, she was the daughter of the late William “Bud” and Della Browning Shepherd. She was retired from Mercer Dress and Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. A member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church, Hogue also enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, and bird feeding.
In addition to her husband, Hogue is survived by two brothers: Howard (Juanita) Shepherd of Cornettsville, and Roscoe (Joe Anne) Shepherd of Slemp; five sisters, Myrtle Turner, Dorothy Ashley, and Sophia (Ralph) Turner all of Big Laurel, Opal (Jim) Gray of Lafollette, TN, and Audrey Chesser of Bardstown. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Shepherd, and one niece, Lana Hawkins.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 4, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Spivey officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. James Thurman, William Turner, Joey Martingill, Mike Sheets, Ron Mudd, and Roy Beasley served as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Turner, Jamie Gray, Harold Shepherd, Tony Shepherd, Mike Ashley, Devyn Martinvill and Tyler Shepherd.
DORIS HOUP
Doris M. Houp, age 75, of Harrodsburg, widow of Thomas Charles Houp, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010 at her home.
Born March 4, 1935 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey C. and Mattie Ruth (Terry) Miley. She was a retired James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital CNA and was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three daughters, Julie (Marshall) Hockersmith of Salvisa, Laura (Tom) Cooper of Harrodsburg, and Melanie (Paul) Toller of Salvisa; one son, Terry (Margaret) French; two sisters, Connie Marsh and Nancy Southard; two brothers; Billy Miley and Jimmy Miley; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren all from Augusta. Houp was predeceased by a son, Blake Houp, and a brother, Jack Miley Egan.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Rev. Johnny Hockersmith III. Burial followed at the Sharon Cemetery
in Augusta.
Pallbearers were: Terry French, Rick Toller, Paul Smith, J. W. Sheppard, Johnny Johnson, and Tom Cooper. Honorary bearers were: Kelly Toller, Kacey Sheppard, Lacy Johnson, Ariel Houp, Aaron Houp, Kathy Toller and great-grandchildren.

JUANITA KAYS
Juanita W. Kays, 90, widow of George E. “Boots” Kays, died Tuesday.
Born May 7, 1920 in Willisburg, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Graces Hays Wilham. She was a retired Cricketeer seamstress and was a member of the Willisburg Baptist Church.
She is survived by: a son, Jerry (Judie) Kays, Salvisa; two grandchildren, Amy Kays Huffman and Jonathan Kays; two great-grandchildren, Alisha and Jacob. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Devine.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Chris Brown. Burial will be in the Willisburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jonathan Kays, Jacob Abney, Phillip Huffman, Gerald Lister, Alan Adams, and Joe Morris. Honorary bearers are Jean Harlow, Ruth Jones, Mary Ann Wiley, and Charity Pike.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Fund.
JAYNE PARKER
Jayne D. Parker, 85, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Somerset, passed away on Monday August 2, 2010 in Harrodsburg.
She was born in Somerset January 5, 1925, to the late William Doyle and Aline Clavel Higgins.
Jayne sold Avon Products for many years, was a beautician, worked at Pizza Hut and was a Wal-Mart Greeter. She was a member of the St. Mildred Catholic Church.
She is survived by: two sons, George Howard Parker(Dolores) of Livonia, MI and William Glynn Parker of France; two sisters, Jackie Swisky of Higginsville, MO and Mary June Gander of Booneville, MO; grandchildren, George Howard Parker, III, J. R. Parker and Glynn Parker.
Jayne was preceded in death by her former husband, Norman Glenn Parker, whom she married on December 28, 1947 in Somerset. She is also preceded in death by a grandchild. Lenora Mae Parker .
A Celebration of Jayne's Life was held Monday August 9, 2010 at the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company with Deacon Larry Cranfill officiating. Interment was in Somerset Cemetery.
JOE ROSS
Joe A. Ross, 82, of Harrodsburg died Wed., Aug. 4, 2010.
Born January 13, 1928, he was the son of the late James and Blanche Steins Ross.
He is survived by his wife, Birdie Reed Ross; a son, Terry Ross of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Brenda Lane of Burgin; two sisters, Jean Grigsby of Springfield and Bonnie Chesser of Willisburg; four grandchildren; two step-grandsons; and one great-grandchild.
Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Hustonville with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ricky Lane, Jason Darbie, Shane and Kevin Griffin, Arnold Cook and John Phillips.
EDD SMITH
Edd David Smith, 59, of Salvisa, died June 19, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona.
He was born in Madison County to the late Mack D. and Alberta Conner Smith.
He was a former truck driver and former owner of Reliance Fire Protection. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era.
He is survived by: his wife of 24 years, Charlene Peyton Smith, Salvisa; two stepchildren, Doug Caldwell, Frankfort and Cindy Searcy, Lawrenceburg; one sister, Lois Kirkland, Lexington; three step-grandchildren, and six nieces.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Evans and Cynthia Wilson.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 13, in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Gash Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.

CORNELIA CATLETT
Cornelia Catherine Catlett, 85 of Harrodsburg, widow of Garnett Catlett, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care.
Born March 10, 1925 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John Dwight and Bernice Tara (McCristal) Wickersham. She was a retired Corning/North American Phillips employee and was a member of Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and the Cumberland Presbyterian Women’s Mission.
Survivors include: two daughters, Lois (Hugh) Bullock and Jean (Johnny) Currens, both of Harrodsburg; one son, Ricky (Regina) Catlett of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Reva Semones.
Funeral services were conducted at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with James Byrd and Garry Allen officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brent Currens, Cary, Stephen, and Blake Keebortz, Erik Sims, John Wickliffe, Tim Martin, Daryl Catlett, and Roland Arnold.

EDWARD COFFMAN
Edward C. Coffman, 68 of Harrodsburg, husband of Helen Pinkston Coffman, died Tuesday Aug. 10, 2010 at his home.
Born May 26, 1942 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Virgil and Reval (Bertram) Coffman. He served in the US Army and was a former Lowe’s employee.
Survivors include his wife, Helen (Pinkston) Coffman; daughter, Jo Lynn Preston of Harrodsburg; son, William Troy Coffman of Virginia Beach, VA; three sisters, Virgie Savage and Sue Ward, both of Harrodsburg and Jean Dattilio of Salem, OH; two brothers, Gary Coffman of Tucson, AZ and Ricky Coffman of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

ALBERT JONES
Albert Lloyd Louis Jones died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.
He was born in Searcy, AZ, July 20, 2010.
Surviving are his parents, Will and Lisa Jones of Searcy, grandparents, Lloyd Hughes and Jennie Lee Jones of Harrodsburg, and John and Mary Ann Yount of Ford City, PA. Great-grandmothers; Mary Jane Yount of Ford City, PA and Edith Rodenhausen of Canfield, OH. He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Albert J. Rodenhausen of Canfield, OH, Marlin Yount of Ford City, PA, Marjorie and Stanley Watts, Clarice and Lloyd Jones of Harrodsburg.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Church of Christ with burial to follow in Ebenezer Cemetery
by Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Downtown Church of Christ for the Makonde Team in memory of Albert Lloyd Louis Jones.
MARY ROBERTS
Mary Elizabeth Roberts, 85, of Harrodsburg, widow of Russell Evans Roberts, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care.
Born Feb. 19, 1925 in Mackville, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mollie (Coslow) Carrier. She was a retired seamstress from Cricketeer and a member of the Harrodsburg Church or Christ.
Survivors include: two daughters, Lea (Buddy) Shirley and Bea (James) Norton; three grandsons, Jimmy Norton, Timmy Shirley, Tommy Shirley and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by five brothers; Russell Carrier, Marvin Carrier, Raymond carrier, Elwood Carrier and Garnett Carrier and three sisters, Lettie Smith, Beulah Smith and Genevia Phillips.
Funeral services were Aug. 15 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel and officiated by Mike Estes. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Timmy Shirley, Tommy Shirley, Jimmy Norton, Mike carrier, Terry Phillips, Tim Devine, Steve Carrier and Joe Carrier.
