CHARLES WISE

Charles Claude Wise, 86, of Perryville died Tuesday April 27, 2010 at his residence. He was the widower of Geneva Shepperson Wise.

Born February 6, 1924, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Mattie Crain Wise and was a self-employed farmer.

Claude was a longtime, very active member of Doctors Fork Baptist Church where he had been a trustee. Claude’s dedication to his church was obvious through his works. He also was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. The two most important things to him were his church and his family.

Survivors include: two daughters, Charlotte Carr of Danville and Brenda (Dan) Vollstedt of Louisville; one son, Kenneth (Jean Charlotte) Wise of Perryville; three sisters, Lottie Hendren of Harrodsburg, Myrtle Layton of Danville and Hope Kimberlin of Lebanon; one brother, J. B. Wise of Louisville; five grandchildren, Kendal Wise, Ryan Carr, Lori McGuire, Kendra Helm and Claudette Davis; and six great-grandchildren.

Claude was preceded in death by a grandson, Hunter Johnson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 30, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville by the Rev. John David Lane, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Clifton and Raynold Wise, Robert Dale and Bryan Lee Sheperson, Anthony Goodman and Thomas Shepperson

Visiting hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Doctors Fork Baptist Church, c/o Elvin Anderson, 808 Brumfield Road, Perryville, KY 40468.

SUSAN WOOD

Susan Hilda Wood, 99, of Wilmore died Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Royal Manor Nursing Home.

A native of Jessamine County she was born Sept. 29, 1910, to the late Joe R. and Linnie Welch Wood.

Hilda was a founding member of Wilmore Christian Church, a graduate of Wilmore High School, an avid UK Wildcat basketball and Cincinnati Reds baseball team fan. She loved gardening and flowers she was a true farm girl.

Survivors include two nieces, Betty Cox and Mary C. Thompson both of Burgin.

She was preceded in death by a brother James E. Wood.

Services were held Saturday, April 24, at the Wilmore Christian Church, with Rev. Johnny Davis officiating, burial Wilmore Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mike, Doug, and Steve Reynolds, John Barrington, Billy Dan Bottom, Marty and Glenn Grossman.

Honorary bearers were Carl Corman, Jr., Richard Wells, Virginia Kemp, Elizabeth Amburgey Lucille Canter, June Cartwright, Lois Reed, Tammy Horton, Joanie Grossman, Jan Houp, Cindy Cartwright, Christie Grossman, and Sharon Davis.

Donations may be made in her memory to Wilmore Christian Church.

Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home in Nicholasville is in charge of arrangements.

KENNETH AKINS

Kenneth Akins, 58, of Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, April 28 at his residence.

He was a native of Frankfort and a member of the Freedom Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sisters, Patricia Ann Brown of Lawrenceburg, and Debbie R. Rogers of Princeton and two brothers, Danny L. Akins of Harrodsburg and Ronnie Gilbert Akins of Lawrenceburg.

Memorial services were conducted Saturday, May 1 at the Ransdell Funeral chapel with the Rev. Bobby Logue officiating.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

EDGAR BAKER

Edgar W. Baker Jr., 61, of Harrodsburg, died April 10, 2010, at Hunter Acres Care center in Sikeston, MO.

Born on February 7, 1949, he was the son of the late Edgar W. and Nancy E. Blackwell Baker.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Glynn Baker.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary A. Misewicz Baker; one son, Richard Daniel (Jane) Baker, with granddaughters, Sage and Rose Baker of CT; one brother, Thomas Lynn Baker; his stepmother, Mary C. Baker; stepbrothers, Greg and Charles Whitenack; stepsisters, Trish, Mary Beth and Georgetta Whitenack, Angela Carter, Cynthia Rose and Lisa Lake; two aunts; and numerous cousins.

Services were conducted Tuesday, May 4, at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Harrodsburg.

JOHN BYRD

John “Bill” Byrd, 88, of Sandy Srpnig, Ga., died Monday, April 26, 2010 at his residence.

Born April 30,1921 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Ada Byrd and Park Hurst Byrd. He attended Duke University and earned varsity letters in track and football, playing in the 1942 Rose Bowl in Durham. During WWII, he served in the U. S. and in the Pacific commanding minesweeper YMS 199 before returning to Duke, receiving his Masters Degree in Forestry in 1948. After two years with the Alabama Department of Forestry, he worked as a salesman in the paper industry for Gulf States for 29 years and Smurfit-Stone for 13 years.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janet Byrd; three daughters, Susan Martindale, Carol Ryan, and Elizabeth Webster and four grandchildren.

Interment will be in Wytheville, VA at a later date. Alpharetta-South Care Funeral Home in Alpharetta, GA was in charge of arrangements.

ROY CAMPBELL SR.

Roy Robert Campbell, Sr., 87, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, died Tuesday, April 27i, 2010 at Hospice of the Bluegrass in St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

A native of Stella, Carteret County, North Carolina, he was born Jan. 30, 1923 to the late Robert “Mann” and Pearlena Spicer Campbell. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in World War II as a truck driver in the 384th Quartermaster Truck Company. He was a retired New York City Corrections Officer and owned a corner laundry for approximately 25 years in Bedford Stuyvascent, Brooklyn, NY. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna Wilma Campbell; sons, Roy (Lena) Campbell, Jr., of Lexington and Daryl (Tracy) Campbell of Wappinger Falls, NY; one grandson, Roy Campbell III of Lexington; one sister, Eunice Brendilson of Norfolk, NY and one brother, William Campbell of White Plains, NY; sister-in-law, Jewell Lay of Harrodsburg, brother-in-Law, Billy Gayton, OH and nieces, Wilma Linton and Wanda Lay, both of Harrodsburg.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 30, at Sims funeral Services. Burial was in Robinson Roe Cemetery in Burgin.

Pallbearers were members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association from Chapters in and around central Kentucky. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Campbell, Jr., Daryl Campbell, Roy Campbell, III, Larry “G” Gayton, John Thomas Linton II, Tim Adams and Terry Adams.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Sims Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

RUBY CARROLL

Ruby Catherine Carroll, 84, wife of James L. Carroll of Burgin died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born May 30, 1925 in Estill County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Jesse Connor White .

She was a retired glass inspector for Corning Incorporated and attended the Church of God.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons: William Thomas Carroll and Richard Carroll, both of Burgin; two brothers, Robert Earl White of Harrodsburg and Homer White of Junction City; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, homer Carroll; one sister, Lucille Freeman and two brothers, James and Herbert White .

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Jim Kelly Wasson, Eric Masters, Brian Hale, Chase hale, Isaiah Smith and Josh Smith serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

EMILY COLYER

Emily Clere Colyer, 56, of Danville, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at her residence.

Born Sept. 8, 1953, in Berea, OH, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mildred Sanders Colyer. She graduated in 1971 from Danville High School and in 1975 from Centre College. She retired from the State of Kentucky as an industrial safety inspector.

She is survived by a brother, Richard S. “Rick” (Lori) Colyer Hillsborough, NC; and nephews, Bobby Colyer of Austin, TX and t. J. G. Patrick Colyer of San Diego, CA.

Graveside services were held Sunday, May 2 at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Phillip Haug officiating. Active pallbearers were: Bobby Colyer, Patrick Colyer, Eric Guerrant, Jerry Gammon, Danny Matherly, and Ron Sanders. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. George Noe, Bill Dishman, Bobby Sanders, Eleanor McDonald, and Charlotte Sinkhorn.

Memorials are requested to Trinity Episcopal Church or the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society.

KATRINA HOLLINGSWORTH

Katrina Lee Hollingsworth, 42, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional; Medical Center in Danville after a brief illness.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Bob Hollingsworth and a daughter, Alicia Hollingsworth.

KATRINA HOLLINGSWORTH

Katrina Lee Richie Hollingsworth, 42, of Harrodsburg, wife of Dr. Robert “Bob” Hollingsworth, passed away at 5:04 a.m. Monday April 26, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville.

She was born in Lexington, on September 7, 1967 to Bobbie Jean Fisher and the late Charles Lee Richie.

She was an alumni of the Bourbon County High School and the Maysville Community College. She was employed by Jerry’s Restaurant of Paris for over 17 years. She was highly active in youth community activities and also the Millersburg Elementary PTA where she had served as President. After leaving Jerry’s she engaged in the healthcare industry, caring for elderly citizens. She also enjoyed bird watching and was a volunteer for Hospice in nursing homes and the Humane Society.

Survivors include: her husband, Dr. Robert “Bob” Hollingsworth; mother, Bobbie Jean Fisher; one daughter, Alicia M. Hollar; step mother, Barbara Richie; one granddaughter, Caydence Lopez; one grandson, Sam Austin Lopez; one sister, Regina (Mark) Carroll; one brother, Charles (Michele) Richie; one stepsister, Chaslee Richie; two stepbrothers, James Mattox and Matthew Mattox.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday April 29, 2010 at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main St., Paris, by Paul Holland.

Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be, Shane Lopez, Randy Fisher, Jackie Kenney, Shelton Mastin, Brent Mastin, William Richie, Peyton Richie, Gabriel Richie, James Kenney, Justin Kenney, Barry Sargent, Lindsey Stewart, James Whitaker, Tim Gray, Dr. Jim Ferrell, Bill Wofford, and Dr. Michael Wall.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Humane Society.

MAURICE MAYES

Maurice B. Mayes, 82, of Harrodsburg, widower of Mildred Alford Mayes, died Sunday, many 2, 2010.

Born June 8, 1927 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Roy and Reva Atkinson Mayes. He was a retired Corning Glass employee.

Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia Ann (Tom) Moore of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Lois (Gene) Atchison of Grassy, MO and Mary Ellen (Bud) O’Keefe of Louisville; two granddaughters, Angelia (Pete) Mitchell, and Margaret Weisenbach and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 5 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Chuck Vernon officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.
