Man is found dead at park
Police continued to investigate the discovery of a body at Old Fort Harrod State Park.
Harrodsburg Police Det. Brian Allen said the body of Phillip Douglas Lane, 38, was discovered Saturday morning at the shelter house behind the fort.
Allen said Lane was a diabetic who needed dialysis treatment, and police suspect his death was a result of natural causes. He added Lane was a transient, and that he was not receiving proper medical attention. “It appears he just wasn’t taking good care of himself,” Allen said.
There was no evidence of foul play, and Allen said there were still items of value on Lane’s body when he was found, including a watch and a portable DVD player.
Allen said police won’t know the official cause of death until they receive reports from Mercer County Coroner Sonny Ransdell.
Among Lane’s survivors are his parents, Howard Richard Lane of Harrodsburg and Pauline Grimes Lane.
