CORINE DEAN
Corine Cordie Smith Dean, 96, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Sept. 26, 1913 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Silas and Mary Lizze McIntyre Smith and was the widow of the late George Richard Dean Sr. She was a housewife and member of the Centennial Baptist Church.
Survivors include: five daughters; Mary Ann Vaughn, Betty Jean Black, Ann Louise Walker, Carolyn L. (Exequiel) Rivera and Christine Marie Edelen; one son, Robert Lewis Dean, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 17, at Centennial Baptist Church with Elder J. D. Short III, Brother Wendrell Hunn, Brother Herman Bradshaw and Brother Vincent Farris officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were: Sylvester Young, James Elery, Robert Dean, Jr., Larry Andrews, Wayne Andrews, Tyrone Dean, Antonio Dean, Jerome Dean, Lamont Trigg and Stephon Trigg.
Sims Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
GERALDINE HAWTHORNE
Geraldine Springate “Gerri” Hawthorne, 77, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born Oct. 21, 1932 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Myrtle Bryant and Coleman Parris Springate and was the widow of John R. Hawthorne.
She was a graduate of Kentucky Business College in Lexington, a former employee of Mutual of New York Insurance Company, and retired from I.B.M. in 1991. She was the assistant to the Mayor of Lawrenceburg for the past seven years. She was a member of the Sand Spring Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her sons, Rick (Joann) Hawthorne of Lexington, Barry (Inge) Hawthorne of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty P. Morris; seven brothers, Maurice, Byron, Roy, and Cotton Springate, W. S. Inman, Kavanaugh “Doc” Inman, and Herman Inman, Jr.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 20, at Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Sand Spring Baptist Church, 1616 Harrodsburg Rd., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.
DEBRA MAUS
Debra L. Maus, 50, of Ft. Wayne, IN, wife of James Maus, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Parkview Hospital in Ft Wayne.
Born in Harrodsburg on Aug. 2, 1959, she was the daughter of Maurice and Pearl (Berryman) Gritton. She graduated from Harrodsburg High School in 1977. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, and later received her master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She was member of the Huntertown United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club.
Survivors include: her parents, Maurice and Pearl Gritton of Harrodsburg and a brother, Steve (Millie) Gritton of Tryon, NC.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 19 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Harold Best and John David Lane officiating. Burial was in the Hopewell Baptist Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Memorial services in Indiana will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 26, 2010, at the Huntertown United Methodist Church, 16021 Lima Road, with Pastor Greg Hiatt officiating.
DEBORAH MITCHELL
Deborah Ruth Reed Mitchell, 55, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 6, 1954 in Nicholasville, she was the daughter of Martha Lear Doolin and the late James Luther Doolin. She was an employee of Hitachi and a Baptist.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by: two daughters, Heather (Brian) Neighbors of Stanford and Lynette (Eric) Shafer of Berea; one brother, Ronnie Doolin of Harrodsburg and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 20 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Chaplain Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Bellevue Cemetery
in Danville with Cory Stigerwald, Brandon Smith, Kevin McMichael, Daniel Barrett, John Griffin, Brent Sallee and Dilland Harp serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Bacon Moore, Dr. Mohammad Shahzad, Edward Fisher, Lucas Connor Shafer, Lilyanne Olivia Neighbors, Jacob Redding Neighbors, Ty Smith, Alivia Smith and Kendall Smith.

MARJORIE PERKINS
Marjorie Pauline “Polly” Perkins, 92, wife of Frank L. Perkins, died Friday, April 16, 2010 at her residence.
Born Feb. 16, 1918 in Taylorsville, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Nellie K. Heady Truax. She was a retired bookkeeper for the Olshine Credit Store, a life time member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Harrodsburg Church of Christ.
Survivors other than her husband include: one brother, John H. “Bud” (Bonnie) Truax Jr. of Louisville; one sister Wilma (Don) Kestler of Burgin and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Harrodsburg Church of Christ with Mike Estes officiating. Burial was in Highland Memory Gardens in Mt. Washington .

FRANCES REED
Frances Robinson Reed, 98, of Junction City, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born Tuesday, Feb. 6, 1912 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Emma Logue Robinson and was the widow of J. B. Reed. She was a former employee of Palm Beach Company and the Louisville Store and was a member of the Junction City United Methodist Church where she was a former treasurer and Sunday school teacher. She graduated from Junction City High School.
Survivors include: one niece, Jeanette (Don) Putteet of FL; great-nieces, Jennifer (Mike) Abrams of Junction City and Renee (Tim) Scott of FL and great-nephew, Steven Robinson of FL.
She was predeceased by five brothers: Grover, Billy, Knox, Woodson, and James Robinson; two sisters, Mattie Robinson and Nannie Goode; and nephew, Ballard Robinson.
An Appreciation of Life service was held Friday, April 16, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Owens officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Steven Robinson, Mike Abrams, David Logue, Marshall Qualls, and Donald Anderson.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Junction City United Methodist Church.
WINFIELD SAMPSON
Winfield “Bud” Sampson, 78, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born Sept. 25, 1931 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Ernest and Eva Ella (Brown) Sampson. He was a retired Kentucky State Hospital and Kentucky School for the Deaf maintenance employee and was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Welch and Brenda (John) Blacketer, both of Harrodsburg; one son, Julian Sampson of Campbellsville; two sisters, Sarah Sampson of Louisville, and Emma Jean (C. L.) Rehkopf of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

JEAN SMITH
Jean Hatchett Smith, 82, formerly of Mackville, passed away at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.
A native of Washington County, she was born on October 26, 1927 to the late William Roy and Retta Jane Hayes Hatchett.
She was a member of Mackville Baptist Church, a 1946 graduate of Mackville High School and a homemaker.
Survivors include: three sons, Jim (Mary Alice) of Mackville, Joe (Rita) Smith of Harrodsburg and John Smith of Louisville; two daughters, Mary Jane (Larry) Scott of Springfield and Dawn (Bill) Pettus of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Corine Pennington of Knoxville, TN; one brother, Nick (Chris) Hatchett of Louisville; two sisters-in-law, Betsy Johnson of Lebanon and Helen Isham of Elizabethtown; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Lillard Smith Jr. on Feb. 6, 2000; a son, William Alan Smith on Oct. 27, 1994 and two sisters, Louise Godbey and Edith Cawthon.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 21 at the Mackville Baptist Church with Rev. David Gifford, a former pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Peter Cemetery
at Mackville.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were the grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Joseph F. Smith, Joseph A. Smith, Larry Scott, Bill Pettus, Joe Auberry and John Yates.

LESTER SOWDER
Lester Sowder, 66, of Cartersville Road in Garrard County, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010 at his residence.
Born Friday, February 4, 1944 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late General Lafayette “G. L.” & Sadie Bugg Sowder.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pearl Delores Sowder, and was currently married to his loving wife, Holly Sue Conn Sowder.
Lester retired from Parker Seals, was a farmer and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his loving wife, Holly Sue, Lester leaves behind: one daughter, Leslie Sowder of Berea; one brother, David (Donna) Sowder of Berea; two sisters; Dorothy (Gene) Chadwell of Crab Orchard and Josephine Gaffney of Danville; special sister-in-law, Norma Sowder of Winchester; special nephew, Charles Sowder and family; special niece, Rosemary Sowder and family; several other nieces and nephews; and special friends, Brady Abee and Rhonda Cromer.
In addition to his loving wife, Pearl Delores, and parents, Lester was preceded in death by two brothers, George & Howard Sowder; and one sister, Clara Sowder.
An Appreciation of Life Service was held Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Ramsey Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Horn officiating. Burial followed in Lancaster Cemetery.
Wendell Farmer, Caywood Metcalf, Raymond & Roger Harris, Josh Logan, John Wade Walker, Dallas Helton and Michael Hammonds served as active pallbearers.
Honorary Pallbearers were Kenneth Short, Billy Conn, Wayne, Danny & Allen Day, Jimmy Tudor, Billy Lake, David Hagan, Tom Hounshell and Larry Nicely.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Heritage Hospice.

LILLIAN TAPP
Lillian Tapp, 81, of Lancaster, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
She was the daughter of Martin and Fannie Smith Abrams and was the widow of Marvin Tapp. She was retired from the Signet Corp. after 18 years, was a homemaker and a member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Dell (Brenda) Gabbard of Buena Vista and Hargus Gabbard of Lexington; one daughter Kay (Doug) Jackson of IN; one sister, Vivian Tapp of Buena Vista.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar Abrams and Edward Abrams.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 19 at Spurlin Funeral Home with the Reverends Caywood Morris and Leroy Releford officiating. Burial was in the Lancaster Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Josh Wise, David Gabbard, Barry Wills, Jerade Edwards, Mike Mullins and William Gabbard. Honorary pallbearers were: David Abrams, Doug Jackson, James Heckman and Ronnie Abrams.
JEAN TRIGG
Jean Alice Trigg, 75, of Danville, formerly of Springfield, died April 16, 2010 at Danville Health and Rehab.
Her parents were the late William and Georgia Spaulding Raines.
Survivors include one son, George Trigg of Harrodsburg.
The funeral was held Wednesday, April 21, at Holy Rosary Catholic church.
Burial was in St. Dominic-Holy Rosary Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Graf and Deacon Gus Cooper officiating.
Pallbearers were William Edelen, Wayne Edelen, Joseph Edelen, Leonard Bates, Paul Lewis and Johnny Raines.
