C. T. CORN

Chesley Thomas “C. T.” Corn, age 53, died Friday, April 17, 2009 at his residence.

He was born April 2, 1956 in Mercer County, to the late Presley K. and Callie Mildred Drury Corn.

He was a former mechanic and truck driver for Harrod Concrete & Stone in Frankfort, enjoyed his family and NASCAR racing. He was recently baptized at Freedom Baptist Church in Anderson County.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Debbie Thornberry Corn; a son, Dustin Corn of Laconia, IN; 5 grandchildren, Scott Pate, Mike Rutherford, Destiny Rutherford, Chelsea Tucker, and Daniel Corn; three sisters, Mildred (Jim Cooley) Rogers of Lawrenceburg, Wanda (Rick) Davis of Harrodsburg, and Merry (Steve) Driskell of Lawrenceburg; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Garland Corn and Nadine Hays Corn.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Brandi Corn Rutherford; two brothers, Floyd W. Corn and James Presley Corn.

No services are scheduled. Mr. Corn will be cremated.

The Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LONNIE DENNEY

Lonnie Eugene Denney, age 59, of Brodhead; passed away Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 at the Rockcastle Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born on June 15th, 1949 in Brodhead, the son of the late Elbert Denney and Anna Jewell Owens Denney.

He was a farmer. His hobbies and interests were playing a guitar and singing, growing flowers and raising goats.

Those left to cherish his memory include: two sons, Lonnie Ray Denney of Brodhead; Donnie Eugene (Lisa) Denney of Somerset; two daughters, Lisa Hartman and fiancé Bill Gasper and Patricia Gayle Senters of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren and his significant partner, Sharlon Jean Denney of Brodhead.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ronnie Denney, Terry Leon Owens, Junior Owens, and James Everett Denney, three sisters, Ravennia Marie Payne, Phyllis Diane Denney and Freda Mae Evans.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 17th, at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals in Brodhead with Bro. Billy Medley officiating. Burial followed in the Providence Cemetery.

EULAN FREEMAN

Eulan “Bob” Freeman, 77, of Chico, CA, formerly of Salvisa, died April 14, 2009 at his residence.

Born Oct. 3, 1931 in Whitley County, he was the son of the late James Leslie and Lula Martin Freeman.

He was retired from Locheed in California. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Regan Freeman; one daughter, Debbie Freeman; three sons, Jimmy, David and Jeff Freeman, all of California; two brothers, Raymond Freeman of Lawrenceburg and Donald Freeman of Lexington; and two grandchildren.

He was predeceased in death by one sister, Mildred Craig of Mercer County; three brothers, G. B. Freeman and Ona Freeman of Mercer County and Delmer Freeman of Lawrenceburg.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 25 in California.

NELLIE HARRIS

Nellie M. Harris, 103, of 232 Reynolds Ave., Corning, NY, died Monday, April 13, 2009 at Elcor Health Services in Colonial Ridge, Horseheads, NY.

Born March 30, 1906 in Corning, she was the daughter of Frederick and Ida (Bohem) Fish. She was the widow of Walter W. Harris.

She worked as an inspector with Corning Glass Works and was a member of the Coopers Plains United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Bath Veteran's Hospital and with American Red Cross in the Grey Lady Service and with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

Harris is survived by one son, LeRoy F. (Margaret) Harris of Corning; two daughters, Geraldine (George) Rogers of Danville, and Betty Ann (Bert) Park of Bushnell, FL; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Friday, April 17 at Coopers Plains United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Bell officiating. Burial was in Coopers Plains Cemetery in Painted Post, NY.

THERESA HATFIELD

Theresa "Terri" S. Hatfield, 55, of Harrodsburg, wife of Paul A. "Tony" Hatfield, died Friday, April 17, 2009.

Born March 28, 1954 in Louisville, she was the daughter of William M. Sanders of Harrodsburg and the late Dorothy Belle Peach Sanders.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Burgin Baptist Church, where she was a choir member and greeter.

In addition to her husband and father, survivors include a daughter, Tera H. Burke of Wilmore; a son, Tony (Amy) Hatfield of Cold Springs; two granddaughters, Jaylan Skylar and Grace Nicole; two grandsons, Logan Thomas and Griffin Paul; and an aunt, Rose Ann Dixon.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, April 21 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carl McCray and Pastor Phil Yates officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Patrick, Billy Lucas, David Woodward, Vernon Tatum, Eric Kestel and Jerry Burns.

THERESA HATFIELD

Crash fatal to Mercer woman

Child also injured

Theresa "Terri" Hatfield, 55, of 1006 Perryville Road was fatally injured in an accident on U.S. 68 at 5:20 p.m. Friday.

A witness reported that Hatfield was traveling west about 3.1 miles east of the U.S. 127 Bypass when her 2004 Ford Explorer ran off the right side of the road, impacted a culvert and struck a tree.

Hatfield was pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Coroner Sonny Ransdell. Hatfield’s 7-year-old granddaughter was a passenger in the vehicle and was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Hatfield had reportedly picked up her granddaughter in Wilmore so she could sty the night with her. The granddaughter is listed in stable condition at the medical center.

Both the victims were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Kentucky State Police said the accident may have been a result of a medical condition, and that Hatfield was diabetic. Witnesses reported seeing no brake lights at the time of the accident. An autopsy was scheduled at the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort.

KSP Trooper Gary Thornberry is the investigating officer.

Hatfield was the wife of Paul A. Hatfield and daughter of William M. Sanders ;of Harrodsburg and the late Dorothy Belle Peach.

JAMES JOHNSON

James Lindsay Johnson, 87, of Perryville died Thursday at his residence. He was the husband of Blanche McCleary Johnson.

Born July 23, 1921, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Lewis Haynes and Lindsay Dever Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a retired farmer and insurance adjuster, an Army veteran having served during World War II and was awarded five bronze stars and a Silver Star. He was an active member of Perryville Baptist Church where he was deacon emeritus and former Sunday school superintendent. He also was a former member of the Perryville City Council, American Legion, Battlefield Post No. 301 and a member of the Forkland Community Center. He attended grade school at Johnson's Chapel Grade School and was a graduate of Lebanon High School.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two daughters, Michelle (Tom Dick) Phillips of Burgin and Marcia (Steve) Parsch of Prospect; two sons, William Haynes (Brenda) Johnson of Burgin and James Vinson (Beverly) Johnson of Gravel Switch; three grandchildren, W. Haynes Johnson ll of South Carolina, A. Bart (Elizabeth) Johnson of Danville and Molly Vinson Parsch of Prospect; and three great-grandchildren, Colin Blake, Madison E. Johnson and William Wyatt Johnson.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 19, at the Perryville Baptist Church by the Rev. Doug Davis. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 18.

Active pallbearers were Haynes and Bart Johnson, Tom Dick Phillips, Steve Parsch, Donnie Leonard and Perry Arnold.

Honorary pallbearers were Carroll and Gene Purdom, Bruce Helm, Dr. Dan Moran, John C. Johnson and the deacons of Perryville Baptist Church.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Heritage Hospice and Perryville Baptist Church.

ETHEL KNIGHT

Ethel Marie Knight, 76, of Salvisa died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 5, 1933 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Walter T. Brown and Minnie Whitis.

She was a homemaker. Knight was survived by one son, Henry Lee (Irene) Knight of Salvisa; one sister, Mary Brace Randolph of OH; two brothers, Roscoe Brown of Salvisa and Virgil Brown of Danville; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted Monday, April 20 at the McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Broce officiating. Burial was in the South Fork Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Henry Knight, John Holder, Stan Blackburn, Roscoe Brown, Kendall Mann and Rob Randolph.

KEVIN LANHAM

Kevin Lanham, 50, of 309 E. Office St., Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the UK Medical Center.

Born May 10, 1958 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Billy Gene Lanham and the late Shelbie Jean (Johnson) Lanham. He was a Copy Express technician and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

In addition to his father, survivors include a sister, Carla (Jimmy) Gray of Harrodsburg; two nieces, Maggie and MacKenzie Gray; and a great niece, Emma Claunch.

The funeral was conducted Saturday, April 18 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his Copy Express co-workers.

EDNA PRICE

Edna R. Price, 85, widow of John Ben Price, died Friday, April 17, 2009 at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born January 20, 1924 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Frances Montgomery Riley.

She was a retired employee of American Greeting, Inc. and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and singing.

Survivors include: six sons, John (Linda) Price, Jr., David C. (Julie) Price, Owen Glen (Carol) Price and James Robert (Pat) Price, all of Mercer County, Ronald Wayne (Gracie) Price of Laurel County and Gary Michael (Virginia) Price of Anderson County; one daughter, Donna Jean Price of Mercer County; one sister, Dorothy (Owen) Foster of Nelson County, 21 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents Edna is preceded in death by three sisters.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating, with burial in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James R. Price, David Price II, Scott Price, Tony Price, Wayne Price, Justin Schultz and Andrew Grider.

Gary Price, Daniel Ransdell, Daniel Derrringer and Mark Smith served as honorary pallbearers.

MARTHA ROBINSON

Martha Celestus "Leck" Bowen Robinson, 77, of Lawrenceburg, widow of John H. Robinson Jr. died unexpectedly Saturday, April 11, 2009 at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late Mary Royalty and Calvin Hunt Bowen Sr. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church and former assembly line employee of Kentucky Overall and Union Underwear.

She is survived by her son, Doug Robinson; three daughters, Judy (Lynn) Hutton, Kathy (Larry) Stevens, and Barbara (Terry) Mitchell of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Raymond (Vena) Bowen of Harrodsburg and Calvin H. (Brenda) Bowen, Jr. of Lawrenceburg; four sisters, Juanita Mitchell of Lawrenceburg, Lula Euliano, of Meadeville, PA, Norma Jean (Eugene) Royalty of Lawrenceburg and Bernice Thomas of Chaplain; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony Wade Stevens; a sister, Virginia Valley and a brother, Naamon Bowen.

The funeral was held Wednesday, April 15 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bros. Albert Peach and Gary Snowden officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gary Riley, Mark Robinson, Jared Rogers, Jimmy Mitchell, Keith Thomas and Brian Robinson.

Honorary bearers were Ronald Bowen, Robert Mitchell, Billy Ray Robinson, Glenn Valley and Larry Riley.
