LULA BAKER
Lula Belle Jones Baker, 73, of Lebanon Hill, Springfield passed away at 6:15 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
A native of Washington County, she was born on August 13, 1935 to the late Carl Lee and Hazel Sallee Jones.
She was a member of the Willisburg Church of Christ. She along with her husband, Cleo, owned and operated Baker's Town and Country Store in Springfield for several years.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Cleo Baker, a son, Dennis Vincent Baker and a sister, Mary Aileen Nally.
Survivors include a son, Ricky (Susie) Baker of Willisburg, a daughter, Regina (Gary) Cheatham of Willisburg, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Kathy (Denny) Coslow of Cornishville and two brothers, J. D. (Pat) Jones of Campbellsville and Tommy (Fridecha) Jones of Red Springs, N.C.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Burnice Richardson, minister of the Willisburg Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in the Battle Cemetery
at Mackville.
Pallbearers were Jamie Baker, Johnny Baker, Jody Baker, Jed Balley, Travis Cheatham and Dylan Cheatham. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Blake Baker, Seth Marple and Michael Devine. Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
WENDELL BOYD
Wendell Boyd, 55, of Dover, TN, formerly of Hustonville, died Monday March 2, 2009.
Born Feb. 2, 1954, he was the son of Ida Jenkins Boyd of Danville and the late Harold Boyd.
He was a retired Danville fire chief.
Other survivors include: his wife, Raylynn Boyd; two sons, Todd Boyd of Moreland and Doug Darland of Harrodsburg; and four grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at noon (CST) Saturday at J. H. Churchill Funeral Home in Murray, Ky.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7.
Emergency Service vehicles wishing to participate in funeral processional need to be at J. H. Churchill Funeral Home by 9 a.m. (CST) Saturday.

DORIS BUSH
Doris Lynn Bush 36, daughter of Coy H. and Ernestine Garrison Bush of Berea, died Sunday Feb. 28, 2009 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
Doris was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Church and the MARC Center where she worked part time, and is a graduate of Berea Community High School.
Doris is also survived by: one brother, Mike (Donna) Bush of Franklin, OH; two sisters; Vera (Mike) Webb of Berea, and Kim (Carl) Rogers of Miamisburg, OH. Several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews and a host of good friends, she was also survived by her very dear friend Danny King of Harrodsburg.
Funeral services were held Tuesday March 3, with Rev. Alan Peevler officiating. Burial was in the Berea Cemetery.
LEE HAWKINS
Lee Van Hawkins, 82, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Heritage Hall Health Care Center.
He was the son of the late Lena Davis and Thomas F. Hawkins.
He was an Army WWII veteran, and member of Berea Christian Church in Mercer County, and former deacon. He was a 1947 graduate of Rose Hill High School, and retired Mechanic from Jenkins Chevrolet and Hawkins Tune Up.
He is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Maxine P. Hawkins, Lawrenceburg; two daughters, Jana (Robert) Hudnall, Donna (Terry) Cunningham, both of Lawrenceburg; one son, Wayne Thurman (Kaye), Danville; one sister, Mary Shelburne, Lawrenceburg; brother, John Hawkins, Louisville; six grandchildren, Jason Hudnall, Teri Jean (Doug) Stockton, Jill (Mike) Goodlett, and Davy Cunningham, all of Lawrenceburg, Pippa (Michael) Hunt, Shelby, AL, and Polly (David) Hosay, Bowling Green and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nora Shouse, and brother, Joe Hawkins.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, with Dr. Curtis Myers, and Rev Jim Wheeler officiating.

Honorary casketbearers were John Reid, Ed McCann, Earl Stucker, Ed Ruggles Jr., Dr. Curtis Myers, Gordon Jenkins.
WINTHROP HOPSON
Winthrop H. Hopson, 82, of Cadiz died at 12:44 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Shady Lawn Nursing Center in Cadiz.
Born December 1, 1926 in Cadiz, he was the son of the late Winthrop Howell Hopson and Elizabeth Rice ( White ) Hopson.
Hopson was a WWII US Marines Veteran, a retired farmer, a member of Cadiz Christian Church where he served as an elder, was a former chairman and member of the Trigg Co. Chapter of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association, was a Farm Bureau Director, and was a former member of the Trigg Co. Board of Education.
Survivors include his wife, Celia (Moore) Hopson, a son, Howell Hopson, a brother, W. J. Hopson, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of Cadiz.
Services were held at Cadiz Christian Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009 with Dr. Tom Martin officiating. Burial was at East End Cemetery
in Cadiz.
CLARENCE MCDONALD
Clarence L. “J-Bird” McDonald, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009.
Born April 5, 1949 in Lexington, he was the son of the late Oliver McDonald Jr. and Sylvia Shelton Miller.
Survived by his step-mother, Anna L. McDonald; his wife Shirley Ann Wardle McDonald; his children, Denise, Betsy, and David McDonald, Louisville, Marie (Anthony) Marshall, Harrodsburg, Sylvia Lynn McDonald, Lancaster, and one step-daughter, Amanda McFadden (Steve), Lexington; 14 grandchildren, 7 siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Friday, February 27, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Versailles Road, Lexington.
Milward-Southland, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.
DAVID MILLER
David S. Miller, 66, widower of Patricia Wilham Miller, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at the Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
Born January 6, 1943 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Wayne Hugh and Mary Hayes Baker Miller.
He served in the Air Force during the Vietname War. He was a truck driver for the U.S. Mail.
Survivors include: two daughters, Tammy Miller Mulberry and Heather Miller (Ross) Hendrick, both of Georgetown; and one son, Stewart (Zandra) Miller of Washington , DC; one sister, Debbie (Charles) Roach; one brother, James H. "Jim" Miller, both of Harrodsburg; stepchildren, Terry (Donna) Chester of Junction City, Lesha Curtsinger of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by Jazmin Miller and Chris Tewmey.
Funeral services for David and his wife, Pat Miller, were conducted March 1, 2009 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Brad King and Ricky Mobley. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers for David were Stewart Miller, David Issacs, Tammy Mulberry, Heather Hendrick, Michael Tewmey and Charles Roach.
Pat's Pallbearers were Justin Chester, Kyle Chester, Harry Gilmore, Chad Votaw, Mike Savage and Lil Larry Wilham. Honorary Bearers were Josh Savage, Rhonda Mobley, Brad Mobley and Mike Tewmey.
RALPH PINKSTON
Ralph M. Pinkston, 69, husband of Nancy Benge Pinkston, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Born October 14, 1939 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James E. and Janie Drury Pinkston.
He was retired from H&B Sanitation. Ralph enjoyed collecting die cast cars and knives and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors besides his wife include his step daughter, Yuvonne Benge Wesley of Harrodsburg; four stepsons, Ronnie McElroy and Donnie McElroy of Danville, Andrew McElroy of Lincoln County, and Cecil McElroy of Hustonville. Two brothers, Johnnie (Debbie) Pinkston of Burgin and J. L. (Sara) Pinkston of Danville. One sister, Shirley Crews, of Harrodsburg, fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one step-son, James McElroy, and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted March 2, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Smith officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery
with Chris Cox, Jamie Benham, Jamie Brummett, Chad Pinkston, Donnie McElroy and Ronnie McElroy serving as pallbearers.
VIRGINIA RICHARDS
Virginia “Vergie” Richards, 56, 604 Story Ave., Harrodsburg, wife of Larry Richards, died Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
Born October 7, 1952 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Willard and Hazel Lee Webb Tate.
She was a Haggin Memorial Hospital switch board and admissions employee, and was a member of the Hedgeville Baptist Church.
Other survivors include: a son, Chad Richards, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Terri R. Marksbury, Lexington, and Carin (Dennis) R. Cocanougher, Harrodsburg; a sister, Easter Carey, Harrodsburg; a brother, Jay (Karen) Tate, Alabama; five grandchildren, Samantha Marksbury, Austin Wayne Cocanougher, Noah Joseph Cocanougher, Mason Lee Richards, and Kain Richards; a godchild, Faith Kearns.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, at the Hedgeville Baptist Church, Danville, by Travis Farris and Bob Kiper. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers were Billy Nevius, Danny Carter, Keith Monson, Vernon Richards, C. H. Isham and Dave Petitt.
Honorary bearers were Barbara Isham, Jo Ella Curtis, Sue Johnson, Kathy Nevius, Diane Carter, A. J. Clark, Diane Burton and Karen Tate.

MONICA SMITH
Monica Johnson Smith, 58, wife of William Douglas Smith, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
Born May 8, 1950 in Woodford County she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Evelyn Price Johnson.
Survivors, other than her husband, include: one daughter, Nicole (Robert) Stromberg, one son Doug Smith II, both of Versailles; two sisters, Wanda Brown of Versailles and Jewell Brown of Harrodsburg; five brothers, Sherman Johnson of New Jersey, Freddie Johnson of Versailles, Rudy Johnson of Lawrenceburg, Vaughn Johnson of Winchester, Kurk Johnson of Georgia and two grandchildren, Keagan and Alexander Stromberg of Versailles.
Preceding her in death was a brother, Sylvester Johnson.
Services were conducted Monday, March 2, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Floyd Green officiating. Interment followed at Steele Cemetery.
Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home, Versailles, is in charge of arrangements.
NORA VANHOOSE
Nora Jane Wilhoite VanHoose, 60, died Monday February 23, 2009.
She was born January 1, 1949 in Frankfort, Kentucky to Ernest and Emma Wilhoite.
She was a registered nurse at James B. Haggin Hospital in Harrodsburg.
She is survived by: one daughter, Malia Ott of Okinawa, Japan; one son, Jason Jelinek of Tuscaloosa, AL; two grandchildren, Tristan and Liberty Ott; one sister, Terri Thomas of Frankfort; and one brother, Ernest Gene Wilhoite of Taylor, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Sandy Wilhoite.
A memorial service was held Friday February 27, at the Clark Funeral Home-Versailles Road, Frankfort, with Brad Stone officiating.
ONEETA BARNES
Oneeta Sanders Barnes, 85, of Danville St. In Lancaster, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Christian Care Center in Lancaster.
Born August 24, 1923 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Milton and Madie Beasley Sanders.
She was a former nurses aide at the Garrard County Hospital, a farmer and a member of the Lancaster Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Ronnie (Janice) Barnes and Donnie (Karen) Barnes both of Lancaster, a sister, Margaret Ann Deering of Perryville, two nieces, Angie Deering of Perryville and Jolene Ashford of Nicholasville; a nephew, Gary Noel of Harrodsburg; a special cousin, O.H. Robinson of Stamping Ground, four grandchildren, Ronnie S., Donnelly, and Donavon Barnes, Dondra West and two great grandchildren, Dalton R. and Makenzie T. Barnes.
She was predeceased by a brother Roy Sanders, a sister, Virginia Noel, a grandson, Robert M. Barnes, and just recently , her husband, Charles William Barnes.
A Celebration of Life service will take place 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at rhe Ramsey Funeral Home, Lancaster, with Dr. James McCarroll officiating. Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie, Donavon, Tommy & Donnelly Barnes, Charles Ashford and Gary Noel.
Honorary bearers will be O. H. Robinson, Bill Lumley, Larry Barnes, Nickey Barnes and Thomas Begley.
Visitation will be from 5 - 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Garrard County Senior Citizens or the Garrard County Public Library.
